Great work!
Nice to see you here
Me as a Pole looking at the video lenght:
8k views only is a crime for this level of dedication...
Not gonna lie, this is at the same value as Pootis Engage's recent sequel. And that's no exaggeration.
Wow, very nice.

Waiting!!!
The guy really went “Fine, I’ll do it myself” when valve said they’re not going to make a movie based on Half Life
reload time?
@@Windows_98 I miss you
Have valve said that outright? I thought they were working with JJ Abrams still?
@@itsgeegra That's for Portal.
Why would they? Half Life is all about interaction and how the games make you feel you're in a living world, making a movie trying to imitate that would just be ruining the formula, and most of us would agree that we'd rather have another Half Life game.
I've already started to get worried about episode 3 of this series
Seriously, everyone stops at, or after their 3rd episode for any Half Life series :/

Thank you so much for the support!!!
This has been the biggest project I have ever worked on, and personally, I think it's my best. I would really appreciate it if you could subscribe, like and share to as many people as possible
dude, you deserve more than just a like and a subscription. This video is a real masterpiece. It makes you feel this atmosphere of your favorite game right away. Thank you for your content, bro)
You top :D
Great work 👏🔥
Holy crap man this actually blew me away! The SFM animation quality feels like something valve might have released themselves!
Dutifully subscribed to this superb realisation of the Half Life games. Big thanx
Amazing, but Alyx's model is awful.
Totally
It was based off of the Source 1 version which was ported into Source 2 during development and was only supposed to be seen during the EP2 cutscene from a distance, not up close if you think about it.
Inb4 cinematic mod.
@@EnclaveSOC-102 I have nothing against the low poly model in the cutscene, but using it in animation ..
It's a high-poly scan of Merle Dandridge, Alyx's original voice actor.
It looks off because of it's accuracy - while in previous games Alyx was only loosely based on the reference, they used a 3D scan for HLA.
Pretty damn decent, nice work! Think if you trimmed a few minutes off it editing wise it would be more engaging.
big fat agree. lots of filler to add “mystery”, but all of us already know the story
@Cleumator so insecure and you didn’t even make it.

Also, that one dislike is that person who subscribes to a channel just to dislike every video for no reason other than to try and hurt the cc, and they don't realise that they are giving the channel interactions which helps the channel as they need to partially watch the video to dislike it.
It's the one douche at the bottom Zeus skateboard or whatever
@@ch3cksund3ad No i ithink its just the youtube system to balance out every video on UA-cam. Because not everyone video cant have a dislike.
personal +: Great visuals, very cinematic feeling, fitting music, lots of subtitles for great reach of audience, natural character movement
personal -: some scenes feel slighty long, most of the time the camera work was great, but I had the feeling that creating a realistic expression for alex was hard and that is the reason we don't,t see her face much and is also maybe the reason that some scenes feel forced into covering her face. But do correct me if I'm wrong. I just saw little of the main character and I had the feeling the sometimes you were ''filming'' just next to the main event, instead of spot on filming the main event. Like the camera was off focus.
But besides the whole arguments, I still loved watching it, will continue watching it because it's a proper cinematic of the half life universe. Gabe would be proud of you
This is fantastic for a person who can’t get VR.
@@OBSO_LETE exactly lol. What's perfect for someone who can't get vr is the non vr mod.
@@aleppo5398 The non-vr mod is perfect for absolutely nobody besides mappers who need to test without putting the headset on every iteration.
The entire game is built around VR, that mod destroys every single meticulously-crafted mechanic and flawlessly-designed level by virtue of the control scheme alone. What messedUP was getting at is that people play Half-Life for the _gameplay_ ,which is practically nonexistent with that mod.
@@OBSO_LETE Alright cool, you going to pay for all of the wayward fans that waited like the rest of you that can't get VR yet?
Shit like this is why I hope HL3 isn't VR.
When she got knocked out was that the “dream sequence” from the beta?
That is what I was going for, yes.
@@HALFPEEPS nice
Lol that dream sequence reminded me of nfs most wanted where you start at the end of the game and flash back to the beginning where the game starts
Very excited, just don’t stop at episode 2.2! You got a great thing here.
This was very good. the cinematography was on point and even though I know the story, that's what is getting me invested. However I did notice a few issues, (as it happens with larger animations) Whenever you decide not to pose the fingers of the characters(mostly Alyx) its very noticeable. another thing was that when Russel threw that gun he very clearly was just starting straight in front of him and not even looking(with his pupils) toward Alyx, which made me feel some sort of disconnect. other than that, can't wait to see future episodes!
I really admire on the intro on the Citadel destruction and the death of Eli Vance to match up the beginning of Half-Life Alyx.
Keep going because this is awesome!
When you attempt to "smell" things in VR, you have reached peak immersion. This was an amazing trip down memory lane, and I realize more and more just how "peak gaming" Half Life: Alyx truly was.
Excellent production value. You earned my sub.
Honestly this is exactly what I wanted, a cinematic version of the events of Half Life Alyx done like a film. Honestly man, great work, I look forward to Episode 2 (let's hope you make an episode 3 unlike Valve)!
I've been associate editor for UK commercials and indie films for about 9 years now and I can say this is absolutely fantastic work, but I think you need to calm down with the close ups, camera wobble and quick editing when the scene doesn't call for it. The scene with Alyx and Russell should be calmer and not so many angles and cuts with camera shake. The wide shot of them looked great and I would have preferred something more subtle. You shot a dialogue scene like an action scene which I think is why I felt it didn't work as much (for me).
There's a lot of redundant fluff shots which makes it a little confusing what to focus on like 9:49 with the helicopter or 16:16 when it changes to Russel's face. You've got to ask yourself what's the purpose of each shot and why it's in the edit. Shots of the city can have a purpose if it helps us better understand where we are and what the environment is for example, but if it has no relanvence other than 'it looks good' it'll subconsciously confuse the viewer because the shot's purpose is questionable. Whenever you cut to a shot, you're asking the viewer to take in new information that's important, whether that's a characters feelings, showing an important object etc.
Also, shots in this change from moving to static to moving again way too frequently, for me, it feels like I can never get fully enveloped into the scene being of a certain tone. So if your scene is intense, use camera shake, if not have little to no camera shake within that scene. For example, when 16:10, when the shot of Alyx is static then the erratic shot of Russel. I had no idea spatially where Russel was, and the cut was very jarring. So try your best to help the viewer understand where everyone is spatially. Because you're cutting too often, we can't settle the position of the characters in our heads.
Just remember, if it's not relevant, cut it, because it'll only make a better product.
Hopefully you can see this is constructive an in no way meant to make you feel bad. You've done an amazing piece of hard work, I just think sharing my knowledge may be useful. Keep up the good work!
This is extremely good. To good... given the interest of my, employers.
because gman doesn't want good. He wants neutral.
some criticism
some parts could've been shorter, like 3:00 (could be 5 seconds shorter) 4:00 (too much city shots, can cut out some) 7:32 (goes for a Little too long) 11:44 (goes on for too long) 15:17 (can be shorter, too much shots of the room imo) 18:15 (this can be just 1 second).
in 18:19 the viewer doesnt know how the gloves work (i want to show this to people who never played half life before) so a scene where alyx is playing with the gloves, can go on for a minute or two, introducing the concept in a "show not tell way" would be great. 18:28 the joke is ruined, you should put a camera at alyx's level and then make it look at the gun falling and shooting the car when it lands, similarly to how it is in game. (this scene could be made 90% from alyx's level, the close up is kinda ruining the feel).
anyway, great animation. looking forward to episode 2, but please if you combine all episodes together, fix these issues pls.
15:26 worked so nice in putting forth the atmosphere with the closeups and that piano. Truly a huge project and definitely your best work, Half Peeps.
Loved It, no immersion breaking glitches spotted, the Russel scene had top notch photography
Can't wait to watch this masterpiece
Why is there no movie about Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2?
Well... Now, listen carefully my dear, when you see your... father, relay these words... prepare for unforseen greatness
^-^
sheesh that view like ratio
btw ur literally the most underrated channel ive ever seen
Thank you so much! that means the world to me!
i cant even begin to imagine how long the rendering took.
It's well-made, but the perfectionist in me sees many moments where the editing could be sharper and camera work improved. Of course, since we're talking Source Engine (even if Source 2) I can understand it can be very tough to get it to cooperate properly.
You are highly underrated, looks like you put a lot of time and effort into your videos and I'm already sold.
Appreciate that

How is this even possible?! This is on another level!
How it's possible you ask? Hard work & effort + SFM/S2FM = The future of animation.
It’s just a pity the new Alyx model is so bad and unfinished. Looks neither young nor as emotive as the original somehow. The expression she makes are jank- and that’s not this creators fault at all. The model just isn’t made well.
5:26 - Not sure if I am seeing this right, but are there two Helicopters just stuck in mid-air?

I absolutely love it great work, aside from contrast being a little high and it losing the details a bit i think this is the perfect way for people like me to experience Half-Life: Alyx
Damn, stopped playing Alyx because of reasons and that's a hella good way to remind myself of everything + it looks gorgeous and still somehow manage to capture the experience for those who can't affort a vr headset and/or a good computer!

Goddamn, did they make Alyx ugly...
Please make this complete
I know you'll have the quality for sure, your videos are amazing, just please see this through
Unlike the numerous other channels that give up, then post a bunch of "progress" videos....
I'm showing a guess that the series is done completely at the release of pt1? Just to be able to upload it on schedule
I doubt it, youtubers arent full studios lmfao
Since when do youtube premieres (or whatever it is) show trailers before the actual video releases?
Man, it really is a Masterpiece! 💯
Why does Alyx in the thumbnail look like a 35 years old mother of five?
I just noticed that and was wondering if they did that on purpose - was it for WOKE reasons? Was it for copyright reasons?
It's because they ported over the Source 1 model for Alyx into Source 2 during the development of Half-Life Alyx and had problems making the face look closer to the one from Half-Life 2 which is why you were supposed to see that model from a distance during the Episode Two flashback and not up close.
EDIT: Also, the base Combine Soldiers and other assets from Half-Life 2 and the Source 1 Engine were used as templates in the development phase for Half-Life Alyx before release.
To be fair, this model is meant to be used in that hangar scene.
ep2 in progress?
Yes
@@HALFPEEPS just make sure you don't overwork yourself, try to get a rest :)
This Is gonna blow up soon
finally! give this man a prize or something! with all the lore stuff out there, this is the best fan tribute I've seen. I'd only make the scenes / sequences shorter, the pauses and dark scenes don't need to take so long, I'm literally hitting fast-forward every 5 secs, but other than that - beautifully made!
This movie is awesome. The amount of time you put into it and the quality it has is impressive.
Congratulations for the feat of releasing it. Waiting for the next one :)
Wow that looks Awesome. Thanks @Hoezaay for sharing it
Good, but could be better. Facial expression on Alyx is rough, and sometimes the animations are janky. Also, some scenes go on too long and sometime the camera isn't focused on the action. Otherwise, good job!
this is fucking amazing, so sad that the quality is droped by the terrible Alyx model, but thats on valve not you
I'm so excited for the next episode ❤
I like how you managed to work with a completely unfinished model since Alyx was never meant to be seen up close. If you look carefully you can even see that the inside of her jacket isn’t even textured and you can see through it.

Way late on this, but a bit of criticism. Point One, it is probably because they're pre-animated and she isn't, but we don't get to see nearly enough of Alyx, proper views or otherwise. Next, while establishing shots are good they do overstay their welcome when compared to how little time Alyx actually spends in the environment, though this may be bleeding in with Point One. Point Three will be bleeding in with Point Two as the pacing comes off as a bit rushed, particularly towards the end.
Solving Point One is as simple as showing Alyx more. If animation quality is a concern and you don't want to or can't put in the effort to be on par with the game then I'd recommend finding an excuse to put Alyx in a mask, like that rebreather she gets soon. Even if they're completely expressionless characters merely being visible makes them engaging to watch. Even just being able to cover the mouth would be enough to get away with it.
Point Two is not just showing the environment, but having Alyx and others engage with it. Considering this game itself was designed with players being able to finely manipulate the environment there should not be a lack of things for characters to do. That said even walking through the environment rather than just going to beginning to end would be enough.
Point Three could be solved just by showing more of Alyx going from A to B, at least enough to give a sense of distance between objectives. The solution bleeds into Point Two's as, well for example the problem with the end is when the techie finishes talking to Alyx there's no transition for her being in the room to being outside. The fix to that would've been to focus on Alyx outside first to establish her new position, then show the techie from the window, so I guess this also bleeds into Point One.
Hopefully these criticisms will have already been thought of and acckunted for by the next parts, but if not I hope that they're at least considered now.
Just maintain a fixed Upload rate... Make sneak peaks, Animated comedy bits. Between major productions.
One of the best things about HL Alyx is the story. It's great that the game files lend themselves so well to telling the story in a cinematic way, albeit with some artistic decisions to skip over less important points. It's been over a year now and no sequel so I guess the project was abandoned. I get it. Way too much work. It would have been epic though.
never realized how clever that "tell her to stop moving around" "stop moving" line is. This is truly excellent stuff.
I'm sure it's been reported before, but the monitor just behind Russell, to his right, reflects what you are seeing in your HMD as you play through this scene. In this video, the monitor is blank, of course.
None knows or care what "S2FM" means in the title, and it's scary when you try to search for episodes…
I think it’s odd how…absent…Alyx is in this. I understand why, but it makes the directing feel…off. Like you’re missing half of the edit. Would’ve really appreciated some reactions shots of her. Just to get an idea what she’s feeling.
The most likely reason for this is her model doesn't have any facial animation rigging to speak of
Great job especially in camera positioning and movement but why the head movement for example at 5:57 is very quick and has no smoothness in it? forgive me for saying this but its kinda like the head movements of birds like hen
I think the only complaint I have, is that the dialogue goes a bit to quick. The rest however, absolutely amazing!
This was incredibly well done and how I imagined a JJ Abrams Half Life movie to a painstakingly accurate degree, even to what I think he'd instantly get wrong, but still do very well regardless: A third person perspective for the majority of shots, if not just every shot.
Half Life generally does the framing and pacing of cutscenes and other perspectives very quickly to keep the focus on its main character, and the added HL2 reference at 14:34 was a prime example of that being done very well. But the odd disconnected fan SFM of the third person framing, and large pacing issues with them because of how the game was designed reminded me of HDTF's cutscenes, if it had an actually good plot and voice cast in it.
I think the best way to solve those minor gripes would be to see if more first person scenes can be added in and pick up the pacing, with the occasional third person establishing shots and more focus on in world third person shots in between, as if we were looking at something Alyx from another perspective. Maybe a combine camera like Halo Reach's CCTV, or Alyx's video feed so it doesn't feel as detached or like a typical movie shot.
Overall, this is better than what I would've expected from a JJ Abrams Half Life movie, and the same nitpick would apply there if he used a more traditional detached camera perspective like here.
This was nice, and I'm looking forward to the next one. Haven't seen it yet.
You know when you’re driving through scenic areas but miss the view because you’re driving, this is getting to be the passenger
this is great, but the cinematography is so close, and the camera often doesnt show the interesting action. its hard to get a sense of where the characters are in the environment and whats happening. for instance, when russ throws the gun, the camera stays on him as a gunshot sound is played. it would have been far more interesting to see the action, not just infer what happened through dialogue/sound. this is really impressive though, great job to everyone involved
This is your selling document to Valve. go make yourself a job and release a fill length movice with them.
This was pretty cool I dig it.
My only criticism is that you go a little tooo hard on the establishing shots that it can drag some scenes on and kill the rest of them, and that you almost act as if we should never see Alex in the majority of shots even though she's the main character.
I just can't get over how old Alyx looks in this
I don't know why I haven't seen this sooner but you guys did some amazing work here on this!
I like it, but there seems to be a lot of black screen time and the story moves rather slowly. Graphics are good. I'll subscribe.
