I really admire on the intro on the Citadel destruction and the death of Eli Vance to match up the beginning of Half-Life Alyx. Keep going because this is awesome!
This was very good. the cinematography was on point and even though I know the story, that's what is getting me invested. However I did notice a few issues, (as it happens with larger animations) Whenever you decide not to pose the fingers of the characters(mostly Alyx) its very noticeable. another thing was that when Russel threw that gun he very clearly was just starting straight in front of him and not even looking(with his pupils) toward Alyx, which made me feel some sort of disconnect. other than that, can't wait to see future episodes!
personal +: Great visuals, very cinematic feeling, fitting music, lots of subtitles for great reach of audience, natural character movement personal -: some scenes feel slighty long, most of the time the camera work was great, but I had the feeling that creating a realistic expression for alex was hard and that is the reason we don't,t see her face much and is also maybe the reason that some scenes feel forced into covering her face. But do correct me if I'm wrong. I just saw little of the main character and I had the feeling the sometimes you were ''filming'' just next to the main event, instead of spot on filming the main event. Like the camera was off focus.
But besides the whole arguments, I still loved watching it, will continue watching it because it's a proper cinematic of the half life universe. Gabe would be proud of you
I absolutely love it great work, aside from contrast being a little high and it losing the details a bit i think this is the perfect way for people like me to experience Half-Life: Alyx
finally! give this man a prize or something! with all the lore stuff out there, this is the best fan tribute I've seen. I'd only make the scenes / sequences shorter, the pauses and dark scenes don't need to take so long, I'm literally hitting fast-forward every 5 secs, but other than that - beautifully made!
Honestly this is exactly what I wanted, a cinematic version of the events of Half Life Alyx done like a film. Honestly man, great work, I look forward to Episode 2 (let's hope you make an episode 3 unlike Valve)! I've been associate editor for UK commercials and indie films for about 9 years now and I can say this is absolutely fantastic work, but I think you need to calm down with the close ups, camera wobble and quick editing when the scene doesn't call for it. The scene with Alyx and Russell should be calmer and not so many angles and cuts with camera shake. The wide shot of them looked great and I would have preferred something more subtle. You shot a dialogue scene like an action scene which I think is why I felt it didn't work as much (for me). There's a lot of redundant fluff shots which makes it a little confusing what to focus on like 9:49 with the helicopter or 16:16 when it changes to Russel's face. You've got to ask yourself what's the purpose of each shot and why it's in the edit. Shots of the city can have a purpose if it helps us better understand where we are and what the environment is for example, but if it has no relanvence other than 'it looks good' it'll subconsciously confuse the viewer because the shot's purpose is questionable. Whenever you cut to a shot, you're asking the viewer to take in new information that's important, whether that's a characters feelings, showing an important object etc. Also, shots in this change from moving to static to moving again way too frequently, for me, it feels like I can never get fully enveloped into the scene being of a certain tone. So if your scene is intense, use camera shake, if not have little to no camera shake within that scene. For example, when 16:10, when the shot of Alyx is static then the erratic shot of Russel. I had no idea spatially where Russel was, and the cut was very jarring. So try your best to help the viewer understand where everyone is spatially. Because you're cutting too often, we can't settle the position of the characters in our heads. Just remember, if it's not relevant, cut it, because it'll only make a better product. Hopefully you can see this is constructive an in no way meant to make you feel bad. You've done an amazing piece of hard work, I just think sharing my knowledge may be useful. Keep up the good work!
I really hope that this gets picked up by UA-cam's algorithms. I would really love as many people as possible to see the work you put into this, it's brilliant!
Many many many thank you for your effort! It is just a masterpiece and I feel lucky to see this and I hope I can see this series until the end. Thanks and thanks again :)

Damn, stopped playing Alyx because of reasons and that's a hella good way to remind myself of everything + it looks gorgeous and still somehow manage to capture the experience for those who can't affort a vr headset and/or a good computer! Already can't wait for the next episode
I like how you managed to work with a completely unfinished model since Alyx was never meant to be seen up close. If you look carefully you can even see that the inside of her jacket isn’t even textured and you can see through it.
This was incredibly well done and how I imagined a JJ Abrams Half Life movie to a painstakingly accurate degree, even to what I think he'd instantly get wrong, but still do very well regardless: A third person perspective for the majority of shots, if not just every shot. Half Life generally does the framing and pacing of cutscenes and other perspectives very quickly to keep the focus on its main character, and the added HL2 reference at 14:34 was a prime example of that being done very well. But the odd disconnected fan SFM of the third person framing, and large pacing issues with them because of how the game was designed reminded me of HDTF's cutscenes, if it had an actually good plot and voice cast in it. I think the best way to solve those minor gripes would be to see if more first person scenes can be added in and pick up the pacing, with the occasional third person establishing shots and more focus on in world third person shots in between, as if we were looking at something Alyx from another perspective. Maybe a combine camera like Halo Reach's CCTV, or Alyx's video feed so it doesn't feel as detached or like a typical movie shot. Overall, this is better than what I would've expected from a JJ Abrams Half Life movie, and the same nitpick would apply there if he used a more traditional detached camera perspective like here. This was nice, and I'm looking forward to the next one. Haven't seen it yet.
Damn, it looks really good! Great job! And it's also a great way to tell the Half-Life Alyx story without usage of (very expensive) VR Headset or boring walkthrough videos!
One of the best things about HL Alyx is the story. It's great that the game files lend themselves so well to telling the story in a cinematic way, albeit with some artistic decisions to skip over less important points. It's been over a year now and no sequel so I guess the project was abandoned. I get it. Way too much work. It would have been epic though.
I like how you included the dream sequence in the crash scene becuase the dream part is based on the original plot of Half Life Alyx where there's a dream sequence and the vortiguant says stuff like come and Eli says open your eyes honey. I like how you included it
It's well-made, but the perfectionist in me sees many moments where the editing could be sharper and camera work improved. Of course, since we're talking Source Engine (even if Source 2) I can understand it can be very tough to get it to cooperate properly.

some criticism some parts could've been shorter, like 3:00 (could be 5 seconds shorter) 4:00 (too much city shots, can cut out some) 7:32 (goes for a Little too long) 11:44 (goes on for too long) 15:17 (can be shorter, too much shots of the room imo) 18:15 (this can be just 1 second). in 18:19 the viewer doesnt know how the gloves work (i want to show this to people who never played half life before) so a scene where alyx is playing with the gloves, can go on for a minute or two, introducing the concept in a "show not tell way" would be great. 18:28 the joke is ruined, you should put a camera at alyx's level and then make it look at the gun falling and shooting the car when it lands, similarly to how it is in game. (this scene could be made 90% from alyx's level, the close up is kinda ruining the feel). anyway, great animation. looking forward to episode 2, but please if you combine all episodes together, fix these issues pls.
