Vortigaunts are so cool. Notice that this one, even with it's brain injury, correctly predicted Freeman's return and victory over the Combine. And he says that is/will be is a matter of perspective. They must experience time very differently than us, being plugged into an entire separate dimension
Really enjoyed this one man, keep it up :) I was looking forward to this and loved it. The intro scene was very interesting! I can't wait to see what you will come up with for the next one. (the transition from GF to GMAN, so cool!)
I appreciate the project but still the pacing and choice of shots need work. If you didn't play the game the constant jump cuts to section to section is going to leave the viewer confused. You need to make sure the viewer knows where the main character is at all times, unless it's a montage. Again I appreciate the effort and I understand animation is a long tedious process (I've been there) but the cinematography and pacing is an issue. When the Vort throws his laser beam, Alyx is at the bottom of the cavern in the couple next shot, coming off as she teleported to the bottom. It's okay to have pauses between dialogue to show where the character is going. When someone is talking you need to have most of the character in frame to see them speak. You show a couple of shots in the beginning of a scene to establish an environment. If you show more shots of the same environment while the characters are mid sentence something needs to happen that's important to the story if we're past whats the initial shots that introduces us to the story's world. With the perspective of being mostly from Alyx in game it would be cool to see from her perspective during just the impactful moments of the story to give more of an intense relatable visual que of her experience. Putting the camera in her perspective randomly without any que that it's Alyx's perspective (like show her arms and hands, is disorientating to the viewer. Seeing Russel in his lab occasionally wouldn't hurt though, especially if you wanted to add a couple shots where he reunites with Eli. Maybe mid sentence we hear Russel's radio voice from a first person perspective shot from Alyx to a shot of Russel in his lab in his non filtered voice in a mid sentence transition when he loses connection with Alyx where we see his frustration and concern and do the opposite when he gains connection again. Also another tip is the faster the action the more shots you have and the quicker the shots become and for calmer actions like talking require the opposite. A character firing a weapon at multiple enemies would take multiple quicker shot, info dump dialogue talk/ dramatic imagery would require slower fewer shots.
Very valid, there were scenes that I was wondering how Alyx got there and I only know because of the game. Solid editing skills only come with practice, practice, and more practice.
