- Bottom line is don't underestimate AIT if you think you will have trouble. Work hard, learn the material, get certifications (if available), and move on.

As a former AIT Instructor (25U), if you fail the same test twice, you will be classed back to the next available class to try again. After your 3rd total fail, you will be counseled and placed on mandatory academic assistance for 2hrs every weekday until you graduate. If you have a total of 5 failures, you will be dismissed from the course. You will then meet the Course Chief and Battalion Commander to plead your case which the soldier hardly wins because assistance was provided to you and the soldier did not take advantage of it. If National Guard/Reserve, most likely you are discharged out of the Army. If Active Duty, you may be reclassed to a new MOS at the needs of the Army or discharged. Chapters can take months to complete, so the best way to get out of AIT is to complete the damn course and pass the PT test.
QUESTION: IF ANYONE GET DISCHARGE IN THE MILITARY DOES IT RUIN YOUR RESUME AS A CIVILIAN IN REAL LIKE IF APPLYING OR GOING TO COLLEGE IF THAT MAKE SENSE?
NIKE SB not the discharge you would get for that. I believe it would be a general discharge. A dishonorable discharge is horrible, but that requires getting court martialed and is very uncommon. I worked retirements and separations as a 36A and only ever saw three dishonorable discharges among thousands of retirements and discharges.
Do you think blue phase is the hardest? My son he just started blue phase... he's in St. Leonard Wood
So basically the army will still pay you BHA when you get recycled lol.
MrTerrello130 hi how’s PT ?
Officially enlisted at meps last night on the army's birthday, what a great feeling. leaving July 23rd for fort Jackson 91B
Fort Benning, July 30th, 91M
Anthony Helton airfroce. I leave July 23rd!
That’s awesome my friend is leaving for basic on the 20th as 91S hopefully I’ll be leaving soon for 31B or if the option is available (very small chance) 31K
I just graduated basic yesterday fort Jackson. 1/34 D Co.
Im leaving june 19th for ft jackson 91B my name is Brandon Artz if you see me and we get a chance talk to me
So right. PT Test is no joke in AIT. I failed 2 times. And got chaptered after finishing all my coursework. I was a holdover for several months then they decided to discharge me. Do extra pt if you struggle. Stay away from junk food. And just because you passed basic you still have to work on yourself.
The Wolf did you get a general discharge?
Carvail I got a uncharacterized discharge.
I enlisted while I was in high school. Young and dumb and didn't take it seriously. Failed run by 30 seconds. Got honorably discharged tho. Give u an idea I went to basic running a 20 minute two mile. Got it done in basic to pass, but couldn't get over the hump for AIT. Will bee re enlisting ending this year. However not even gonna talk to a recruiter till I'm I'm running a low 14 minute two mile. Pushups and situps never where a problem always scored 90% tile or higher.
Robert Chittenden same exact scenario for me too. I'm not rejoining Army again tho. And I been running trying to get my time down also.
I'm doing sprints and hill sprints. 2x a week and running 2 miles 4× a week. Swimming laps 2× a week. And weight lifting 3× a week
Dude I stressed so hard AIT but I never got a no go lol, just stay strong and motivated and you will be fine :)
Matt, just wanna thank you for all these videos. I leave in September and have been binge watching all your videos. I’ve been showing my recruiter your videos and he’s been telling all the future soldiers to watch your videos, to get ready for basic. They definitely help a lot.
You still alive?
My AIT is 12 weeks long. Thank you so much for for the video, this was extremely helpful. I ship out in four days and I’m really excited
Did you make it?
Well this brings back memories for me. AIT was a cake walk for me. For tips people wanting to join pick an MOS that know something about and have a love doing. I was an 52D power generation mechanic. I picked this MOS because I'm very mechanically inclined. So this why it was so easy the pass AIT for me. The instructors where impressed with how well I move with an shoulder that was injured.
Robert Frantz any tips on this mos
now known as 91d
Another great video Matt! I actually swore in today. Going to Benning August 13th!
Extremely helpful thanks a lot I love ur channel
Thanks man I've been wondering what would happen so thanks very helpful man keep up the good work!
Hey Matt first of all I absolutely love your videos they have made me feel so much better about basic and everything and when I first thought about enlisting back in January I thought I couldn’t till I was in good shape and I have come so far to not even being able to do 10 push ups or barley being able to run a lap around the track to doing 33 push ups on my last PT test and running a 2 mile in 17:58 so thanks for giving me the tips I needed to be successful :) 👍🏼
This is excellent advice. Alot of new recruits don't understand that AIT involves studying, attention to detail and hard work. So it's not time to relax.
Thank you for your service, great video brother. If you don't mind, who's trident is that in the back? I would love to see a video on it.
Hey matt i started my journey at 330lbs i am currently at 265 and ive kinda hit a plato in my weight loss and its been taking a toll on my mindset of never give up but i keep watching your videos and keep pushing to get to my goal of 195 you’ve helped me to not give up but my weight still isn’t dropping it would be much appreciated if you could make a video on how to get that never give up mindset back and how to get out of that plato of no more weight loss keep up the good work bro i have a goal to leave for basic in 6-12 months
Try the Keto diet if you are still platoed
Any update?
The hatred for one of the people in my class was the reason I passed my final PT test.
He was 32 year old E-3 who acted like a know it all - real smug, thought he was better than everyone else, etc. No one in the class liked him.
I was on the last 1/4tth mile of my run, walking and clutching my stomach while gasping when suddenly he sprinted passed me.
I was like 'F*ck that, I'm not letting him get ahead of me!' and pushed myself to get passed him and because of that I finished the run with seconds to spare.
Nice video and thanks for the info
Back during the Vietnam era, when I went to quarter master school, we had to test out every Friday. If we failed any of the tests, we'd be sent to cook school.
You went to UNCC? Boy App State gonna get in them CHEEKS this football season! I was going to App and enlisted before I finished my degree. Can’t wait to go back!
AIT is designed for everyone to pass. How can you fail open book tests...... Only challenging test was TCP/IP and it wasnt even that hard for you 25 series.
All you gotta do in AIT is focus on PT
68 series don't have open book tests.
@@Exonist which 68 mos are you? I want to go for 68K
@Shelikesmark I hear that one is nearly always full. Good luck, sounds like a really cool MOS
Delores Emeagi got 68k I leave April 15th . Good luck !
Lmao say that as a 68w
If you are in the guard/ reserves and fail ait the home unit also might put you in on of their ait classes where instead of going to drill with the unit the soldier willl go to school to earn the mos. most reserve units have this option due to people moving, switching units, getting out of the active army etc..
Can you do a video on differentiating between the Reserves and National Guard?
The army does everything to keep you and make you succeed
A friend of mine who I served in the Signal Corps came over to the Signal Corps because he failed one test while becoming MI (Military Intelligence). You cannot fail on a single test if you want to be an MI.
It sounds like it was different where you went, but at my AIT, we took diagnostic PT tests every 3 weeks (9 week course) regardless, however, only the final one was for record.
68w 17%-20% attrition rate. im so freaking ready to enlist!!!!!
Matt Didnt know you were a 25bravo thats what Im here for unfortunately I had some medical stuff happened and im out the door :(
Best advice is to be in shape on your first visit to the recruiters office
My original MOS was 63J (Quartermaster and Chemical Equipment repair) I graduated top of the class (Though that doesn't mean anything in AIT)
As for the APFT in AIT, I failed every single one on the run and just barely passed the final.
Always hated Running.
Hey Matt. I have a quick couple of questions. I keep hearing if you fail your AIT you get a new MOS and like you said get reclassified as something else, but what if you go in as a 18X? Since 18X contracts go through infantry OSUT to become SF, would you be out as a 11B or 11C when failing selection in SF?
This Guy Is An Absolute Weapon
We had a high attrition rate at AIT in most cases its academic and they were reassigned
Thanks for this video, i was concerned about this
So for 68X school, you can only fail 3 tests. Now in the event of a failure, you'll go before a board, typically made up of instructors that will determine if they'll allow you to continue, recycle you to a different class to start at the last block of instruction to retry, or reclass. a few people from my class were reclassed to helicopter mechanics and one was recycled and passed. So it just varies between MOS. Our MOS is low density so they will give you chances if they feel you can do it.
So I became a split option and I've been at home for a little over a year after I finished bct. I'm getting ready to ship out for ait finally (in January) out at Ft Lee. My question is this... how has the ACFT been in ait? During basic, because I went in while covid was still a pretty big deal and the ACFT was still going through the works, we were not required to pass any of the pt tests... but that was last year. Do you know how it has changed not that I am heading to ait in a month? I have a degree in the mos I chose so I am not worried about that, but because I am not coming right out of bct while the ACFT wasn't a required pass... I'm a bit nervous!
And I also have a question for ya so I’m going to college and that’s why I joined the guard since it has the best benefits but I really want to be deployed so I didn’t know if I would have a better chance of getting deployed in the reserves if I switched after college after receiving my benefits for college or after my contract is up at 6 years or what should I do? But then again the good thing about the guard is staying in my state so what should I do?
so im at Fort Eustis, I had passed 8 weeks of class and only had 9 more weeks left. I recently got a stomach virus and missed 1 day of class and they Day 1 restarted me. I have a 274 on my pt test here and a 86 in class as a 15T. Since I wasn't struggling in class or failing my pt test, would I be able to switch my MOS? I qualified for 88k as well which is also on the same base at the same school house but I don't if id sill be at the needs of the army which I shouldn't be since I didn't fail my AIT courses.
Can someone give information on 17C because I’m very interested in that MOS, but I can’t find detailed info about it. I want to know if I’m supposed to have some experience before applying for it and what’s 17c like. I’ve already visited the Army website and the info that is given is vague. I’d appreciate any information related to this MOS, thank you.
You go from the medical field to logistics and regret ever signing that contract and just count down your days until your contract ends. That's what happens
Exonist can you explain a little bit about medical field what is your experience because I’m planning to signing the contract for that I’ll hold tell you answer my question please
@@firas6510 you in the military now?
What is the failure rate for M1 armor crewman? 19K...
Make a video on if you can change your MOS and how long it would take to do if you’re already enlisted
in many cases you are simply reclassified as a combat infantry 11B (Army) or 311 (Marine Corps) and have to go to combat school AIT at Fort Benning or the Marine Combat School at Camp Pendleton; this is especially common in the Marine Corps if you flunk out of your school there though I am not sure how common this is in the Army. This is especially true if you are flunking out simply due to academic underperformance as the combat school has only a few "classroom" tests, and mostly you just shoot guns and train to be a traditional soldier and has the least demanding academic requirements to pass.
aegisofhonor thank you cause I really wanted to know how it was. I’m happy you said that.. I ship August 27th
aegisofhonor unfortunately, 11 series is way overpopulated right now so they really aren’t reclassing people to it
The one great thing about being infantry in army or marines is simple. They always have your back.
Can failing 2 pt test in the regular ARMY get you kicked out? If so can you come back to the military?
Was in the Army in early 1960’s does the Army still use OJT for some MOS.
Hey Matt I don’t leave until august but I’m also 25Bravo. Are there any content you recommend I study before AIT to be fully prepared ?
I have a question. So my basic training is on june 2020 and my mos is 42A. During my active duty as 42A, how can I become Physician Assistant? I'm confused because when I ask the guy that completed my mos yesterday at meps, he said something like even if my job or mos is 42A, I can still go to schooling on medical and stuff, I'm so confused on how that works.
Back in 82' we heard stories about if you fail you would be put into Infantry. Who knows if it was true or not. When i was ending my first enlistment i wasn't sure if i was staying in or not. My in service recruiter suggested for me to take a months worth of afternoon( while on duty) remedial courses in math and so on and retake the GT test to raise my score and to open up more MOS options if i so choice to have a new job. I did raise my score but i reenlisted with my same MOS. I think in the back of my mind was fear of failure at AIT. In my case i had somewhat simple MOS (36k Tac wire oper. specialist) then it was changed to 31k Combat signaler. Who knows what it is now. Bottom line is within 2 years of finishing AIT all or most of the crap i learned was obsolete so every time i pcsed to a new unit i basically was learning new equipment and procedures on the fly which pissed me off because you never achieved a comfort level while performing your MOS if you know what i mean. By the way (Matt Ward)great job on your utube videos. I'm always curious about today's military.
In my AIT 25b people were having multiple failures and passing after the 5th or 6th retry. And if they do fail it's like after there 8th retry.
Hey Matt love your videos man! I’m doing more research for different mos. I was thinking 31 Bravo military police, do you know the failure rate for the mos?
No but you may be able to Google that
Matt Ward I tried but I couldn’t find anything on it but thanks for the response bro! I’m worried about AIT for it. Your videos have been helping a lot
How did it go
Can anyone give their opinion on 91f? What is your experience or friends experience?
If someone wanted to quit but doesn’t want to be their for several months processing out, is it better to quit after AIT or in AIT? Also to mention can someone quit at home when they have their 10 days off before they leave again to their permanent duty station for active duty?? Please someone respond ASAP plz
One question (long read) so I'm just curious, so I signed up for the firefighter exam, and here's the thing, I'm not passionate about it, it's not something I want to do for a living. So I have 4 fines to pay (1 of them is huge, and the other 2 is kind of small, the last one is a surcharge), so I'm hoping to get everything paid off before the end of summer of 2019 (keep in mind I have $900 left on one ticket and one of them I have 400 left), so I'm basically training and studying for the firefighter whole firefighter process because It'll help me with the ASVAB, and help me a little bit with the physical training. So I take the exam on 12/08 and I'm guessing since they said that the firefighter exam would be in the fall but I got the letter in the mail saying it's on 12/08 i'm guessing the physical test would be in the summer (they said it would be in the spring). So if I get everything paid off before the end of summer, and I am suppose to ship out a week or 2 prior to being hired by the fire department, would they still hire me in the future, if I tell them I can't go to fire academy because my enlistment to date is xx/xx/xxxx? And another thing is, whatever military branch I join I want a combat mos
Just another note this is basically a question for firefighters who have done it, or anyone who knows the answer. Anyone can answer. But I'm just curious
I ship out Nov 06 2019, I picked 25S as my job, it's a 26 week AIT, I'm curious on how challenging or hard it is, if anyone in the comments or you, Matt Ward, could give me insight into the course that'd be great, thanks!
If you fail your AIT, you'll qualify for infantry LOL
Lol or a cook or truck driver. Depends on PT score lol
& that's only a wrry for the weak hearted, overall if u fail pt in AIT you wont pass in OSUT for infantry esp the new pt test buddy
Not Infantry, Shhhh It's popluation control lol it's all about that rebranding!
What happens if your ASVAB is to low to become a cook like I have a 81 CO but cooks need a 84 on CO
@@tazirecadet5991 you can retake your ASVAB ANYTIME but your last score will be your new score even if its lower.
Matt, do a video about the chances of securing Active duty and your branch in ROTC
I thought AIT stood for advanced infantry training, like the USMC, MCT Marine Combat Training school for 4weeks after boot camp, then MOS schools?
Just wondering 25 Bravo is computers do they make you learn programming or how to fix computers or both
Are you in the reserve's? Just curious im debating active duty or reserve's
Hey Matt. When I go to basic training next month, what PT test will I be taking? Will I do the new one or the old one?
Vlog Squad you will do the old one. The ACFT is still only in select units for BETA type testing. It won’t be fully implemented until Oct 2019.
Does your enlistment length change if you get reclassed?
Been trying to find info for how the material is for 68f and failure rate but nothing comes up
Does the PT test requirements get harder in AIT, or same standards as BTC?
Can anyine tell me the pros or cons on 92R? parachute rigger. Its on the list of jobs i might choose
Finally about to talk to a recruiter literally this morning. 19 Delta
It’s basically infantry
LOVEYOURCOUNTRY I know its mostly everything 11B does just a little more recon, land nav, fatter Books, armor vehicular weapons... its like the "stealth grunt" per say. Just got done talking to recruiter i basically got the job just need to pass the real asvab tomorrow morning hopefully get Airborne too
Trynna get 19D too got 68 on asvab but might be slightly colorblind have to see at physical
Ask ur recruiter to put airborne in your contract or you probably won't get it for along time. Airborne cav you will end up in Bragg, Alaska or germany.
I leave for basic on July 17th for 19D.
Random question, but do you know anything about 37F mos / psyops?
If you fail AIT get reclassed and fail again then get discharged from the army how long do you have to wait until you can join the army again
I can't find much information on 25Q for the pass/fail rate, can anyone tell me what it is?
i think it's smart that at tech school/ait (if married) your spouse or kids can't normally join you till duty station. more time to focus.
What happen if someone in the National Guard FAIL AIT? I have seen AIT Classes lasting up to 1.5 years.
I failed all but my last pt test at AIT and they still let me go on with my career
How do you do that? Fail your last one but pass all pervious?
What workout do you suggest I do to get ready for Basic Training? Meaning, how long should I do push-ups, sit-ups, etc.
Josh Ewing 2mins each
Thx
I just do push ups. And sit ups. Those are my best. A workout I do for push ups I do is pyramids. Do 1 push up all the way to 15 and 15 all the way down back to 1. This will give you 240 push ups. Try to rests only a few times.
Sit ups I just do 100 sit ups, followed by leg flutters and a plank 3-5 min.
Running is my issue. I can get it under 15:54, I want to get it down to 14:20-30. I been doing more 60:120. Sprint or fast pace jog for 60 seconds and walk for 120 seconds. Add in hills as well. Sprint up and walk down 20 times. Also I go for a 3-4 mile run. I don't worry about my time it is usually about 35-37 min for 4 mile. But you should try to go without stopping and if you want run hills with it. This is what I have been doing and I hope it helps.
Soldier Guy007 to do running just go to a track and Sprint 100 meters, walk 100 meters, Sprint 200, walk 200, Sprint 300, walk 300, Sprint 400, walk 400, then start going back down to 100, do this around 5 times per day and you should be able build up alot alot of endurance and speed helping you with the run (and I'm also a runner so I can confirm)
Joshua Bailey how much is 100 meters how many laps
Had a hard time debating for mos. 31b. I’m all in for doing the right thing for the community. Hoping not to loose in the wood😑
The recruiter everybody needs
Leaving for Ft. Benning on August 15th!
Brandon Gamez me too
James David III Nice, whats your MOS?
Brandon Gamez I’m over at 316th cav
Brandon Gamez Aug6th bro
James David III Maybe we'll be in the same platoon.
Leaving in a month to become a Cavalry scout! Benning in the middle of July is gonna be hot af lol
Volkon I'm going this month man 😂😂 good luck going through Red Phase right in the middle of summer
Charles Bean same bro, what's your mos? I leave June 25th. 19D btw
Infantry Jio 19D as well man 26!!! We may end up seeing each other man
what if after bct then my husband wants to go fds first what should he do next? which ait he should go in?
what Moss do you normally get reclassed to?
Do you have to go to AIT? Can’t you just pass boot camp and then just be done?
If you get discharged can you re-up at a later date?
I have a congenital heart condition, however I have no activity restrictions and it doesn’t guarantee rejection (I checked). However, I have heard people say I would not have a good chance of getting in because the military can afford to be picky with who they allow to join. Just hoping to get your opinion. Thanks and I enjoy the videos!
1966 DLI Vietnamese language was harder than any college I ever took
Had a guy who failed a signal MOS. He ended up with us at Fort Benning , GA in white phase of infantry OSUT.
25U. 7 out of 16 weeks done and today I failed my first test. Retesting Monday. I got this
fucking tacsat
Recruiters convinced me to go 12D. Said if I couldn’t pass the AIT (90% failure rate) that I could reclass to infantry and work my way into special forces. Anyone have any advice on that? Were they just bullshitting me?
I did 90+ push-ups in 2 min at AIT in 2009 at Fort Sill. I was skinny as hell after basic. Now I can bench more than I did then, but can barely do 50+ push-ups lol
What about CBRN? Can you reclass during AIT?
Well, from my days in the Army this guy failed the Adjutant General class so they reclassified him in Supplies (Water Purification, Laundery & Bath, Fuel, etc.)
You probably won’t be able to answer this or even see it but one of my friends in the army who’s still in AIT got arrested around October for assault and got red flagged and phased down but is still going to class and doing everything the same but his 1sgt told him he wouldn’t be getting his orders because there would be an investigation and he’d have to stay there longer than he’s supposed to. But just a few days ago he got his orders to go to Korea but he’s still red flagged so he’s wondering if they stopped the investigation or are they going to keep him there or what hopefully you can answer this or get to see it.
I would say if he got orders just a few days ago and this happened in October then I would assume the orders are right. But your friend should still check with his higher ups.
What regulations are you getting your information from?
Shout out to the guys and girls shipping on the 18th! See ya there if you go to fort Jackson!
It's my last day before I start the whole shipping process to Fort Benning for 11B. Hopefully I'll be able to go Airborne
So what happens if you get denied a security clearance during basic/AIT?
Hère at Huachuca we had 2 guys whos clearances were denied and they ended up just getting t spaced(reclass) to another job
I get shipped out Oct 25, i chose 25B for my job, any tips on how to get ready and what to expect? Pros and Cons & how it helps outside once you leave the military & how it’s helped you
Jesus, i am shipping out in oct 26,2020!
Rachana Bhandari good luck
Light weight infantry 11B is my goal.
They won't regret it.
Depends on why the soldier failed. When i was in they would offer you a choice from a list of shortage MOSs. Obviously, if the failure was academic they probably wont reclassify you to an equally technical shortage MOS as the one you failed.
In my AIT, med lab specialist (92b at that time), we had a lot of written and practical tests. If you failed any of them twice, you went to tank school.
Still how it is lol (68k here aka med lab)
I'm looking to do 68K too. How do y'all like it?
68k school is very hard. Let's be real. If you fail the test and the retest, you go to an AOB with the chance of getting recycled to the next class, getting a new MOS, or continue training. You can also have those 3 options I mentioned above if you fail 3 tests in the same block.
Same. 91B/92B '82-'90!
I really want to join but I am scared that I am not going to be able to be “strong” and other things that happen at the army National Guard
I got a low score one the practice test for the ASVAB the recruiter said I need to study but I am not good at reading or math so I don’t know what to do…
internet.savannah.chatham.k12.ga.us/schools/jhs/clubs/NJROTC/Shared%20Documents/Academics/ASVAB/asvab-4-dummiez-edition3.pdf just review this..and you know what's more scary than the army national guard? looking back on life wishing you had joined when you were younger.
Am going for MP is the AIT hard?
I never got to attend AIT my unit from Southington Connecticut was deployed the day before I graduated from BCT and I was deployed right after graduation. I was 92G CTARNG
Paul Brink wtf 😂 was this like during desert storm or something
My son is leaving Fort Leonard Wood next week to come home and he passed his AIT with honors
So my AIT if you failed out, but could pass a PT test they would let you choose a new MOS. If you couldn’t pass a PT test you got chaptered, or if you took to my PT test to pass you then became needs of the army
