Actually it's smart for you guys to talk to a recruiter while you're still in highschool. If you enlist while you're 17 and still in highschool you can enter something called the DEP Program ( Delayed Entry Program) this will give you $500 every month up until the month you leave added on to your bonus.
I’m joining the Army after this year and you’ve really opened my eyes I was scared of basic training but I now feel like hey this isn’t gonna be hard I just need to focus mentally.
Everything is not perfect in basic training 😂 im joining when i graduate in like 3 years and im getting fit cuz if you go in there all fat or skinny shieet you aint got no muscles i recommend exercise before you join the army
Yeah I’m going to the Army after high school, I’m trying to stay fit, eat healthy, and see what I can do when I get there. Also, good luck to everybody out there who’s also joining the Army y’all got this!!!
I’m only 12 years old and I’m still getting info on Basic Trainings. I keep watching videos all the time and I can’t wait to talk to a recruiter in High School.
OMG! I'm leaving to fort Jackson this month and your videos have made my comprehension of this process a lot easier. Thank you Ward! I really appreciate this! Looking forward to grow as a person with this. 💪💪
Good luck on going to fort Jackson 120th. Just learn the soldiers creed early. And have patients. You be waiting alot. And dont eat and drink while you walk with tray.
I like your advice. This video answered a few questions that I hadn't asked my recruiter yet. Im trying to join the army at 32 years old. I can also offer one piece of advice for people considering joining the military: STAY THE HELL OUT OF TROUBLE!!! I don't care how young & invincible you feel or think you are. Trouble with the law is what's causing me such a headache. It was all petty stuff too, not a single felony. I screwed up my future and career before I turned 17. It's still not a for sure thing this time either but I've got faith & confidence in my recruiter. Just know that serving in the military is an honor & a privilege, not a right.
Thanks for all your videos Matt it really prepared me for my experience! Today I graduate from my 19D OSUT! Your videos really helped prepare mentally and physically for basic and AiT! I’m proud to finally be apart of our nations army and the brotherhood of the army!
Watching from Fort Benning haha COVID has messed up a lot here but happy to say I graduated!!! Watched this before I left and I’m watching it again haha and this is so true! Love it bro keep it up!
Made it to the end! I've watched almost all of your videos now in the past week and am planning on enlisting this year after i graduate college in may!
I’m planning on enlisting in November, and these videos have helped me make the decision. Thank you for making these videos so people like myself can have an overview of what we will go through.
Hey! My boyfriend is at basic training...I'm pretty sure it's his last week of red phase and I was wondering if you can do a video on graduation information..who can attend, how to get there, so we have to stay in a hotel, what can we bring and what we can't bring to graduation, what to wear, etc..it would be very helpful!
Your experience may vary, I was at Benning. Anyone can go to graduation, seating is first come first serve. To get on post you may need the letter he sent you about graduation (if he sent you one) you have to stay in a hotel. He can come with you after graduation and will have to be back to his barracks at night. You can wear anything, but keep it tasteful. You can bring cameras, phones, etc to graduation.
My husband was at benning. Anyone can go, we flew since I lived in Cali. Rent a car or use uber. Yes you stay in a hotel. Wear something classy. Dont be that girlfriend/wife that is dressed like a hooker 😂😂.
Kristen Fuentes lol true!!! Thank you so much! I'm new to all of this..so I am going crazy trying to figure out how much I need to save for his graduation, how many nights I need to stay, is he able to come into the hotel with me etc..lol thank you!
Thank you for explaining it greatly. I myself am joining the army and I leave June 17 to Fort Jackson. I am trying to get as much information as possible. It would be great if you can keep doing videos like this so I can better prepare myself. Thank you for your service.
I’ve watched every one of You’re videos sir… and I really just appreciate all your insight before I make my enlistment … I saw you haven’t uploaded anymore recently , I hope you are doing well , thank you for your service
I really appreciate these videos man! I leave for Ft. Leonard Wood in 4 days and feel so much better about what I’m going to be going through and what to be prepared for. Keep making these great videos!!
I think most of your Vid is good, but one thing that is extremely important is doing well with the rifle, marksmanship is absolutely in my opinion the most important skill, I know not everyone can qualify for an expert badge but it is essential to do the best as you can. Maybe many things have changed when I went through it many years ago, my senior Drill Sargeant did three tours in Nam, and that was the most important thing to him.
The last little bit was very motivational. Been thinking about joining the air force but been really worried about basic and if the military is something I want to do. Thanks
Leaving for the Marine Corps basic training at Parris Island in a few months but I've still watched every video you've put out because your tips seem mostly universal besides things like "dont call your DSs(DIs) 'sir'". poolees/recruit/trainees call all Marines sir/ma'am until they get the title then it's by rank. almost wish I was joining the army though just so i could get the most out of your videos because they're so good. plus basic training is 14 weeks for Marines (plus a month of combat training for POGs, straight to school for infantry) after that, where as my understanding for the Army is 8 weeks then straight to job school/infantry school.
Thanks for doing all of these videos. I’m considering joining the Army National Guard but do not know much about it and was scared about BCT but you’ve really opened my eyes
I always do this weird thing where I binge watch millitary videos and get so hyped and start working out but it's 2 years till I'm even old enough then I usually just loose interest for a few months
I did basic 27 years ago and I’m watching this guy that’s a reservist that’s never deployed make video after video about basic training out of morbid fascination.
@@jackhaugh Howdy! I did basic at Ft. Sill (insert dramatic pause) 35 years ago. My biggest handicap was that NOBODY helped me prepare for it. A shared experience builds strength, empathy, and comradeship. Here we are talking to each other about things most people will never understand. I admit that feeling sentimental about getting dropped, yelled at, and sharing lodging with 50 other people sounds a little strange, but there it is. If my experience can help better prepare someone looking at possibly enlisting, then I have done a good thing. Seriously, if you walk into a room filled with folks who went through basic, you will be talking all day and night. Lt. Ward has given solid information, and has been totally honest. This is a good room. Enjoy!
@c/Pfc Harbaugh First of all, FINISH SCHOOL!! An education gives you options, in and out of the military. Besides, not finishing what you start is bad mojo. Next, time is the best teacher. Do not be in a hurry, although your enthusiasm does you credit. Use the time wisely and prep towards your goals. Be ready.
Thanks matt for the great video. I really enjoy watching your videos. They help motivate me and keep me going. Last week I joined the future soldier program and am loving it.
@@Gametold5 I guess it really depends on what you wanna do in the Army. Not the worst thing in the entire world. It also depends on how close you are to home. If you’re a family person, it’s gonna suck. But totally worth it in the end. At least for me it was. I’m engaged now and 21 years old. And I’m enjoying my life in the Army, currently in South Korea. Worst place I could’ve started but, it is what it is. Only a year here. And then I go home. But yeah, definitely not bad.
@@SilenseMusic I appreciate your response, i'm thinking about going I just turned 20 in August, and I want my career to be in law enforcement and doing some military will really help me overall, I just have a girlfriend and it's going to be really tough.... but as a wise man once said there is no progress without struggle.
You have given me many useful tips and have given me more confidence in my success for my future military career. You are a great person, thank you man👍
@@juliorudolph265 after I graduated, it started to get a little more soft so you don't need to worry about shark attacks or anything like that. Probably the hardest thing mentally was the major difference of the lifestyle you to have to get use to. Physically was the ruck marches because I'm a smaller guy. They don't start you off doing really long marches tho, they progressively get you doing longer ones. I would highly recommend walking long distances and then start to put weight on your back.
When you were talking about physical requirements for males, you said that our run time should be at least 16 minutes...is that for the one mile or something else? I am a female but I would like to know the male PT requirements so that I can work to achieve those scores instead. I know that there are requirements for females to meet but that seems a little too compromised for me. Thank you so much for this video..super helpful.
In a PT test, everybody runs 2 miles. Now there are different requirements for men and women on pushups and situps. Men are obviously stronger so their runinng time is shorter. Women for 2 miles is up to 20 minutes, Men 2 mile 16-20 minutes.
You're the best man. Thanks for taking the time to make all these detailed videos for us noobs. I am going to a recruiter today. I am planning to ship on the next cycle, not this one. That way I'll have time to get my push ups above 50, sit-ups above 60, and the run under 13 mins. I will also have plenty of time to memorize all the stuff you said and study for the ASVAB as well. Cheers !
Leave on July 9th. Your channel has definitely helped me. Also I have a run plan I am going to do for the next month. I want to know your thoughts on it. I currently run a 15:20 2 mile run. I want to get it down to 14 30. I want to know your thoughts on it. Monday- I jog for 5 minutes. I sprint for 100 meters 10 times Tuesday- 5 mile run (no stopping) Wednesday- interval training. Moderate pace for 2 laps. Then sprint a lap. Thursday- 5 miles (without stopping) Friday- same as Wednesday
Soldier Guy007 you should decrease you running work load. I'm not sure exactly how many miles that is but over 8 is a lot. Instead do some strength training squats dead lifts etc.
I had 6 months before i went to basic training. So i worked myself up to 5 miles, 50 puships, 50 situps and 10 pullups. If you are physically fit heading in, then all you have to deal with is the mental stress. I was going to airborne school so i worked on pull-ups.
Thank you! Seriously, all your videos are very helpful, especially to us that are soon to go to BCT. Thanks for your service, and keep the good content going!☺
im going to basic training on the 28th of decemeber im really glad you told me what i need to no. im getting hang of the soldiers creed, and the general orders, and getting the ranks in the bag. just gotta keep reapeating it over and over again. thanks for the tips man. defiantly will help me in basic training.
This one thing popped in my head from when I went to basic training. I got transferred to a different platoon. One day later I was called the DI's office. I was ok what did I do wrong. When I went the DI said relax he had some questions so he can understand where I'm from. Because I'm from pennsylvania he asked where at I told him. He said after that he was from the same state. This hole company about 30% are from pennsylvania.
Made it too the end. Will be going to basic in maybe a week or 2. Got to retake the asbap.. But I am trying to do everything I can to both physically and mentally prepare as best I can.
I made it to the end and I want to thank you for the advice I am going into basic in one year and I am trying to prepare myself way away ahead of time.
Matt thanks for all ur advice and ur videos because they always motivate me to do better and helps me understand if the military is for me now I feel like it is and am ready and am working on my self thanks to u and again thank u
I ship out in 6 weeks to Benning, I am airborne infantry. Basic honestly sounds fun, entertaining, motivating and a once in a life time experience. I feel so ready! Anyone else feelin this before basic? Bring it on Drill Sergeant! I want the full experience of the sucking, rucking and smoking. I want to be a squad leader, and if I or any of my brother/sisters mess up, I will gladly take a one on one personal smoking from the Drill Sergeants! One that I will never forget!
Pleeeeeease don't take this the wrong way, but you can ignore most of what the good lieutenant said here. He is NOT wrong, but here is what you NEED to know before going to basic: Drink water. Do what you are told. Take care of your feet.
Don't worry about anything else. The Drill Sergeant will make sure you know what you need to know. And be prepared to be wrong, about almost EVERYTHING.

You NEED your feet to be in perfect condition and if you have too small of boots, it'll be horrendous! Second, don't attempt to max that very first PT test. Don't fail it, but don't try to be a PT stud, yet. Your Drill Sergeant will want to see an improvement over the course of basic, otherwise he/she is failing. It doesn't count toward graduation, it only tells the DS what shape you are in and how much they need to work on you physically. If you max it, they will expect it and then some.
Awesome video - thanks so much for your insights, Matt! Waiting to receive my BCT assignment, should find out next week
Did you get your assignment? Where are you going?
I always do this weird thing where I binge watch millitary videos and get so hyped and start working out but it's 2 years till I'm even old enough then I usually just loose interest for a few months
Ill be shipping out this June 17 🤙🏻✊🏻😁
Are you doing the split option program?
NecroSeer split op, may 28th fort benning.
best of luck to you
I'm leaving for basic June 1st and I'm quickly finding myself watching videos like these! Thank you!
Same!!
omg ive been so scared and i leave june 15 😭
@@yanybanany good luck!!
@@yanybanany dw sis, you've got this 🥳
Why am i watching this. I already Did Basic
Nostalgia.
Enjoy!
Because shared trauma is fascinating.
300 pt score and 40/40 range? Jeez we’re not super human haha
Made it to the end. Leaving for Ft. Jackson on April 1st. Thank you for ALL your videos.
B co 3-39 it's easy just keep your head down and do what your told.
Who else squading up at fort Jackson june 10-12?
My son on the 27th
Video was really helpful. I’m 20 years old going into the Army in a few weeks. So, thank you.
How is it?
@@Gametold5 You found the right person. I’m a cop in the military. 💀
@@SilenseMusic I'm thinking of doing 2 years as it's the minimum required to become a state police officer, how is your experience?
I leave to Fort Sill in 2 weeks ! Going as a 15P
How was fort sill? I leave to ft sill in a month
You have given me many useful tips and have given me more confidence in my success for my future military career. You are a great person, thank you man👍
I'm watching while on the bus to basic💀🤣
Howd you do?😂
@@Mr.P90 good. Too easy😂
@@BlackedOutGT500 what was the hardest part of basic for you? I'm considering heading to basic in a year once I'm done with school and am curious.
This was a blessing to watch, I am considering being a army Chaplain, look forward to the adventure.
2 miles bud
16 minutes for a mile lol
In a PT test, everybody runs 2 miles. Now there are different requirements for men and women on pushups and situps. Men are obviously stronger so their runinng time is shorter. Women for 2 miles is up to 20 minutes, Men 2 mile 16-20 minutes.
i’m thinking of joining as well in two years
You're the best man. Cheers !
umm then who do i ask to go to the bathroom 😂 and will they get mad if i ask
Just tell your PL or aPL or even your SL you're going and dont leave without a bb.
I will be enlisted soon after I pass the asvab. Wish me luck!!
Leaving in April 🇺🇸
Gaming With Ty good luck!
Thanks for all the advice. Your videos have gotten me motivated and helped me become more knowledgable before I leave tomorrow. I appreciate it
Leave on July 9th. Your channel has definitely helped me. Also I have a run plan I am going to do for the next month. I want to know your thoughts on it. I currently run a 15:20 2 mile run. I want to get it down to 14 30. I want to know your thoughts on it.
Monday- I jog for 5 minutes. I sprint for 100 meters 10 times
Tuesday- 5 mile run (no stopping)
Wednesday- interval training. Moderate pace for 2 laps. Then sprint a lap.
Thursday- 5 miles (without stopping)
Friday- same as Wednesday
Soldier Guy007 you should decrease you running work load. I'm not sure exactly how many miles that is but over 8 is a lot. Instead do some strength training squats dead lifts etc.
Soldier Guy007 my fastest 3 mile is 16:26
Thanks for all the advice! I’m going to Fort Sill July 2nd for BT and AIT. Super nervous about that 107+ heat! 😰😬
made it to end good video matt👍🏻
Awesome thanks!
I leave Monday and you're videos have helped me and my wife with a ton of info thank you Matt
Im already in the army, i just watch your videos lol
Made it to the end, overall knowledge you have told us in past videos, but it is always nice to have it bunched together in one video. Great work!
Damn i leave to basic on the 3rd of September🤘🏼
John Torres aye bro same!! Fort Lenord Wood?
I had 6 months before i went to basic training. So i worked myself up to 5 miles, 50 puships, 50 situps and 10 pullups. If you are physically fit heading in, then all you have to deal with is the mental stress. I was going to airborne school so i worked on pull-ups.
I ship out the 6th of march (3 days)
Edit: I'm heading to Fort Jackson
Been doing some serious research into joining the army. Nice to see a video from a fellow 49er.
Headed to bct tomorrow. Great vid

Important question: what medical records do you go over at reception?
You probably already know this but basically the stuff your recruiter goes over with you

Thank you for your videos, I’m shopping out January 7th. Super excited and thankful for all your videos helping me prep for basic.
Thanks matt for all the info I leave tomorrow for Fort Jackson. These videos have better prepared me for basic and what to expect.
Shipping out september 17th to Fort LW, a little nervous 😱
