You either go to church, clean, or fall asleep inside your wall locker.
Ahh sleeping in wall lockers...and hope you don't have a buddy fcker lock you in
Betttttt
Ya until someone locks you in your locker
My bunk was in the back of the bay so i just slept on the floor lol
Micheal D so is there no tv you can watch on sundays?
On Sunday afternoons we used to take turns laying under our bunks while our buddies looked out for the drill sergeants. You would put your fingers up into the mattress springs and would fall asleep with your arms hanging from the bunk. That way, if any of the cadre came into the room, you looked like you were working on tightening up your blanket from underneath. Good times back in 1985.
We got smoked if we got caught when I was @ Fort Jackson May-June 1995
@@dancastro4732 hahaha I was there at Fort JACKSON in 95... Got busted on a Sunday, fell asleep under my bed... I wasn't even trying to be sneaky I literally fell asleep and when I woke... Me & my Battle got SMOKED!!
We did that too 😆
“Go sit in a bathroom stall and you know have some fun” lmao 😂
😅
SosaNike12
Good grief, my SIT son asked for clothed Rihanna pics.
Hey mannnn
hahahaha
They let yall sleep?? Wish I had your pastors, lol.
7:44 "I am a mature adult... I am a mature adult... I am a mature adult...*snickers*
lol
that was me for 5 seconds
Matt Ward I have a question about basics
not me bahahahahaha im 35 but not mature lol
1st thing I'd like to say, go to jewish service with your close battle buddies on day if youre going to fort jackson, i went every week, im not jewish, and they give food like bread and chocolate, the rabbi is really nice, it's an amazing time.
Abstractionized lol
Do they do it Saturday or Sunday?
@@BattleDamageReport Saturday I would assume
Etan kaff that would make sense from a religious standpoint but wouldent that interfere with training schedule?
@matt ward do you know?
Hey I just graduated from basic training a few weeks ago at Fort Jackson . On sundays we woke up at 0600 for first formation for chow. After breakfast we went back and we got "personal reflection time" where you can sleep if you want to. Like he said you sign up for whatever church service you wanted to go to and you wait until your time to go to church came around. When I would get back from my church service it was already lunch time so pretty much as soon as I got back we went to chow. We wouldn't start cleaning until after lunch. We would usually get an extra hour of personal time at night too. Sundays were always the best day of week , always looked forward them.
Yepp, That's how I tracked time. How many Sundays I had left. lol
Are you going Active, reserves, or guard? Just curious. Also congratulations brother, hoping to be in that same position after this summer.
Sundays sucked when I was in 20 years ago. If you didn't go to church you cleaned. They kept us on total lock down the first 3 weeks until we got our first 2 hour pass. We couldn't leave the block and all there was to do was this shitty AAFES shoppette. When we reported back at 1600 our drills shook us down for contraband. (50 push up penalty for any.) Cough drops were considered 'candy' and confiscated. I got in trouble for buying a can of parade gloss boot polish and really got into trouble for having an outside book to read. ("You need to keep your damned nose in your smartbook! Not reading this GDI shit!" GDI stood for 'god damned individual'.) What I didn't like about Sundays was being locked inside that damned barracks with nothing but time (after cleaning my gear and barracks for the umpteenth time) to think about family and freedom on the outside. It was a great feeling the last morning we marched to supply and turned our linen in for the last time and I was out of that damned place. (Ft. Leonardwood) Good luck with your Army time. When you get older you'll realize it was the best time of your life.
What about cell phone usage?
Sandy Perez well I did it before cell phones and but I would imagine there is no cell phones they took all of our civilian clothes all of our stuff away from us put it into duffel bags and locked into a dumpster I would imagine this is where your cellphone would be you will not see that stuff again until the end of boot camp they also took our wallets money anything we had on us only thing we were allowed to keep was our shaving kit wrist watches toilet trees that were approved and running shoes
The way he laughed at 7:44 makes me think he’s guilty of it.
Icee Vice fr😂😂
I was the ring leader for hosting a D&D section every Sunday during BCT, I used a 20 paper numbered slips as "dice" and have people draw from a beanie for action. Those was good time, and kids from other bays gathering to watch how the story progressed.
This is awesome!! As a huge D&D fan, I can only hope we have something like this when I enlist
"Privates why is this latrine floor so sticky? It was clean an hour ago! I inspected it myself!"
In basic training, on Sunday there are 3 major religions: Protestant, Catholic or Detail!!
I’m disappointed that there are no alternatives for agnostic/atheist people for Sundays.
Serdar Mamadzhanov you get to clean
@@imserdar You either clean or play church boy and go sleep in the pew.
The Alpha Master There are Muslim survices as well.
Detail is gonna my religion I guess.
When I went to basic at Ft Leonard wood they didn’t have a service for my specific denomination and sect (Lutheran Missouri synod) but after a couple of weeks it turned out one of my DIs was of that faith and would round us up and load us into a truck and take us to his civilian church with his family. That way he could always go to church with his family too. We even got to go early if they were having a pancake breakfast or post service meal (of course we always volunteered to help with set up and clean up then 😜) and yes he didn’t mind if we slept in the back pew or read or wrote letters during the service. Thinking back he probably worked that racket during every training cycle
steven heckert the hell? That sounds awesome!
Hard as it is to believe, Drill Sergeants are human beings.
Do you have to go to church or can you clean all day
The Wavy Gamer you can’t be forced to go to church lol
Cleaning or 😴
I was about to ask about those who aren't religious at all but you answered lol thanks for the video!
Easy you still go to church but u sleep so u don't have to clean at first lol
there are no athiest in fox holes!
go to church maybe you will hear why we are religious :)
hardwire Back in Airforce Basic we had an atheist service, pretty cool actually. We got to learn about different religions, politics, upcoming games etc
hardwire haha haha right
Church is probably going to be the most relaxing break you’ll get throughout basic. Would you rather sit down and listen to how God loves you, or go back to the grind?
I’m so happy there’s someone on youtube who shares so much information on army thank you🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thank you for telling us everything we need to know about basic training, I really appreciate it
While at first I thought that doing work on Sabbath was bad, but I think that the symbolism of cleaning is quite wonderful. Looking forward to shipping out in five weeks!
My grandfather went to the Army. When he told me I was filled with questions but scared to ask him because of what he has been through and nightmares he has from movies about war. So you helped me a lot with all the question I had. XD Thank you for serving us.
Sundays are like go to church and have some extra sleep hours, just don't get caught sleeping tho haha
In 2006 we were not allowed to sleep during church. The Drill Sargent would stand in the back and if you got caught sleeping he would be screaming in your face and make you stand against the wall for the remainder of the service.
Thanks for these videos Matt
I gave you a like and subscribe for including "Sitting in the bathroom stall" in your video!
thank you for your information and never holding back. Truly a soilder haha
Hi, I went to Basic and AIT in 1988 at FT. Benning in Gorgia. And at that time Sunday's were for Church, we couldn't sleep? Cleaning the barracks, writing letters home, one phone call home, polishing your boots and polishing your brass? The polishing of the boots and brass made you pay attention to detail and while sitting around polishing away on your boots and you brass was the time you heard all the great stories from your fellow Soliders and you really got to know your battle buddies, I personally wish they would have kept the tradition of the polushing and cleaning your gear because true comarodery was made with one another during those times. Boot camp was one of the best memories I have in life, it was one of the best times I had in life for sure!! and some of the worse times also? I attended Basic and AIT at a place called Harmony Church in FT. Benning, My most cool and rememerable experience happened towards the end of my basic training. My platoon won the Guidearm challenge and we were able to go and spend the weekend in Addy Murphys old barracks and I was able to sleep in his acuall bunk!! My whole platoon just sat around the barracks floor the first night by candle light, because there was no electricity in the barracks anymore!! and we were told crazy stories by a few old Infantry Soliders who searved with Murphy in World War II they were vollenteers from the Museum on post. We
all talked about how it must have been for the Soliders before being shipped out to battle. All of the Old Soldiers were all highly decorated and all of them could have erned the C.M.H in there own right for sure. Highly respected in the Infantry community, almost Infantry God's if you will? A very cool experience I will never forget. I wish every Soldier could experience the comarodery I felt with my Infantry Brothers during my service to our Great Nation. To this day I'm still in contact with quite a few friends I met in basic training, that was 30 years ago!! So if your a young person and your thinking about joining the Military? ( ARMY ) Just do it!! It will, and mark my words: be the absolute best time you will ever have in your life, especially if you like shooting and blowing shit up? It's kinda like being a "professional camper" with alot of guns. FOLLOW ME!! I'M INFANTRY Take care! Hawk Out!!
Ok Claudia
7:43 I needed a minute after that lol.
Good stuff Mat, I definitely wish I would upload as much as you 😂 keep cranking out good content!
Haha It just takes time bro.. haha but I definitely will!
If you're super lucky, during blue phase you'll get to go on pass. However it's super rare to see a blue phase company go on pass. Fortunately for me, my company was one of the super rare ones and once we got to blue phase we got full 8 hour passes with phones on Sundays.
Lol I slept in my bed (on top of the sheets) on Sundays, sometimes until lunch, while the churchgoers were at church. We were supposed to be cleaning but the drill sergeants barely ever came up to the bays during Sunday. Also my bed was in the perfect spot, hidden behind a pillar so if a DS did come into the bay I had a good 10-15 seconds to jump up and fix my sheets before the DS saw me.
Zoliebee can you be on your phone?
@@NIIIOZZ Your phone gets taken at the start of bct.
Pretty accurate from when I went to Navy bootcamp. Cleaned, iron uniforms, church, and actually allowed to take a longer shower than usual. We also did a ton of drilling as well afterward. I mean a ton. I don’t know if they still do but we competed in pretty much everything in training and the hardest competition was the drill part of it. Are RCDs at the time had a competition of them selves not only bragging rights but the lowest ranked had to buy pizza for the whole division before graduation and we weren’t going to lose that.
Just wanted to first off thank u for what u do also your videos really help me get prepared for the army
Thanks man I'm about to go to fort leonardwood July 19th. You've been a huge help.
When you were talking about the DS allowing soldiers to sleep at the back of church I can just imagine the pastor seeing a row of heads dozing off at the back
Sundays were my day to sleep 😂 I used to clean the benches in the bathroom with bleach and then go to sleep on them afterwards. Everyone in my bay loved me for it
Ashley Yuszczak can you be on your phone ?
@@NIIIOZZ I haven't gone to BCT yet, but odds are you won't have your phone. Unless there's a rare case where they don't take your phones. This happened to Matt's brother.
Thank you for video, love all your videos, my son is in white phase at fort sill, these videos have been so informative
Our regular wake up was 0400, but on sunday we could sleep in til 0500. we had baptist, catholic, buddist, and i think one other religion. If we didnt go, we had reflection time for an hour. If we werent at church or in reflection time, we cleaned the barracks and the outside. cut grass, pulled weeds, etc.
When I went to ft Jackson...1985...we trained on Sunday afternoon to lights out...morning was service...cleaning and laundry
Sounds like church back in the 80s. We did the cleaning ALL the time like you described on Sunday. One note, if you went to church while others cleaned they saved the worse parts for you. We also did D&C in voluntary groups.
You can sit in the bathroom stall and have fun 😂 Thanks for your service bro. These videos have been a big help though.
Yep. Always went to service on Sunday. Went when I could while deployed as well.
Im thinking about joining the army reserve. Your video's are really helpful so I can prepare for what i need to expect
Thank you for the advise your giving us this is going to help me alot PS you have a new subscriber ;)
Of course man and ayyyyyy!!! :)
Why have you commented 6 times on this lol
All true!! Sundays were the best in basic back in 87!! Church and then back to the barracks to shine boots and polish brass, write letters, use the pay phones and later in phases we could march to the PX for toiletries and snacks that we'd hide in the barracks!! Basic training was the best and worst time of my life, if that makes sense..
A BCT and AIT on Sundays we slept until 07:00, we ate Morning Chow, then allowed to go to Church Service.
After Service it was back to the Barracks for a GI PARTY.
Then to Lunch Chow and back to cleaning the Barracks.
In the Afternoon it was polishing boots and low quarter shoes. It was polishing your brass and organizing your locker in accordance to the layout diagram.
It was then Evening Chow and studying for Soldiers Stakes.
Then Lights out
I’m a Christian and this answered my questions thank you

I'm not a Christian i have a spiritual relationship with god "Christians" still love the things of the world
@@christianalexander579 kinda funny your name is Christian

Find the longest religious service go to that one and sleep. “Miss the bus” so you have to walk back and stop by the exchange
When I was in, after church and cleaning we would have classes. we would go over the basics things of the week before. Guess times have changed
Same we had classroom as well
We cleaned on Sundays. You haven't cleaned it well enough until cleaning time is over.
The DS on duty almost invariably got bored and made us do PT at night. In white phase we were also allowed to sign out and run around the BN.
Starting in white phase we got a 10 minutes phone call on Sundays, too.
Great video!
Thanks!
I literally went to every religion service i could to get out of cleaning
Kronos you can do that?
@@ripme6575 not all in the same day but every Sunday
I'm glad I found this video because I would have been stuck cleaning more had I not seen this. Can't wait to ship out
I'm sort of agnostic and studied theological philosophy (ontological). This is literally my plan.
@@cordelllongstreath9070 me too man lol I’m an atheist but I’m going to every service I can do I can sleep and get out of cleaning lmao
Very helpful. Thank you for this.

Thank you for the help I’m going to the army very soon
I went through Benning in 92, we got up for breakfast, signed up for services, then marched to church. If you didn't go to church it was waxing and buffing the floors. Later we had time for laundry, polishing boots. Later in Basic Sunday night, the pizza guy would come by and we could hangout downstairs eating pizza and using the pay phones. Drill seargents would usually play music as well.
You should do a video on letters and writing home.
When my friend went through basic he had 10 minutes to write letters, but this was in the 80s. Now we have email and how does that work now?
Sit in the bathroom stall and have some fun😂😂you funny bro 7:44
Exactly what we did on Sundays, everything you mentioned was on point !
can’t wait till I get there I will be waiting on those Sunday’s !!!
haha yeah it's definitely something to look forward to. You count the "Sundays until you leave" lol
What do you mean about bringing your own Bible and it getting messed up? I got one as a gift thats camo and zips closed.
Im so glad i can go to church on sundays when im in basic training because im a Protestant Christian. THANK YOU SO MUCH Shootmeup89! PS im going to be joining the army in about 5 years. :)
Awesome! It's good that you are knowing that as early as you do!
USA Ball why 5 years?

I remember writing on my notebook about Pokemon Colosseum planning both what I've encountered and newer pokemon as of Pokemon X and Y while doing laundry XD ah, good times. Weird stuff, but enjoyed myself nonetheless.
Not even planing on going in the military but I find these videos pretty interesting.
lucky
Why not?
Richard Turner it’s not what I want to do in life. I don’t really come from a military family either.
Martin Findley I don’t come from a military family either. Same situation as you randomly joined one day it’s one of the best experiences of your life. BCT is once in a lifetime
Same I don’t plan on joining the military even if I wanted to it would be a while before I actually could join and I have completely different plans for my life but these videos interest me lol
What about rosaries in Catholicism at basics? I’ve been catholic all my life and I’ve been on the verge of going to basics. But I also imagine United States and Canada have different rules and regulations not too different.
I went to basic at Ft Knox in 2005, I went to church mainly to sleep and eat the donuts they'd have.
On Sundays I was always scared that my Platoon would get caught sleeping. Which we did one day and had to pick weeds all day long till dinner chow.... Fun times lol.
Matthew 11:28, 30
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
I’m confident that nodding off in this case is ok
Mighty Murph amen
And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, "So, could you not watch with me one hour? - Matthew 26:40
my nephew got out of basic and asked why i did not tell him about fire watch. getting little sleep just slipped my mind.
Fire watch was cool...that's when I'd call home collect
CQ duty was cool too
Did the guys on fire watch have to do pt with everyone else in the morning? Did they get any sleep at all?
This guys face is beat red after he cuts it at 7:47 hahahaha you know he had a good chuckle
The majority of our company at Fort Jackson was going to the Protestant church. It was such a big deal when we were signing out- every church had like 20 people max, but the Protestant church had nearly 120 people it seemed.
I'm not religious, but if I get to sleep then yeah, I'll go to church.
Same
Heh, same here
Can you do a vid on proper sit-up form or how to improve core strength. I know I could look it up online or something but I'd rather hear it from you.👍
John Doe he already has a sit ups video
+John Doe I did that about 2 weeks ago, check it out!
Shootemup89 ohh shit guess I missed it, thanks.👍
Rhapsody was the best service. It was fun and they gave you candy afterwards
We would get up at 7am on sunday, formation > breakfast > then after breakfast, the chapel was just up the hill so we could walk there.
"You can go sit in the bathroom stall and have some fun" so meny people are gonna do that
First off big thanks for the videos you post. Could you please make a video about how you would pay off a loan let's say if you were at basic. And you owe a loan on a car or house? I'm thinking about buying a newer jeep before I leave but want to know if I can make monthly payments while I'm at basic.
If you set that loan on an auto draft it will be fine. You might not have a chance to manually pay that at BCT
Shootemup89 thanks so much!
I went to Fort Lenordwood for BCT and on Sundays there we woke up 0530, went down for formation for breakfast chow then go to church services if you wanted to. Then we would go on 3 or 4 hour break or whatever it's called to do what you want plus we'd have our phones as well. Forgot the name of it. Other than that, Sunday's were always a good day.
Mad informative. I leave next week, so I’ll be prepared.
Going to ft Leonard wood on august 13th, dang I'm nervous.
Brandon Daly You’ll do fine, don’t put unneeded stress on yourself. Just think about the millions who graduated from basic - it’s demanding but far from impossible

Hell! For us Sunday was like this for us... Wake-up at 5 or 6 (Depending on DS), Formation at 0530 or 0630. Chow anywhere from 0630-0830. Church from 0900-1000. 1100- right before chow... Short smoke session so that we have something to pray for next Sunday (Only real time Drills were joking with us). Dependent on reservation, 1200-1330 Chow. After chow clean and/or study until 1630-1800 which was chow... After chow a massive PT smoke session until 2000 where we had an hour of personal time... 2100 lights out.
Sundays were more laid back, but just as busy with busy work. We had maybe 20-30 mins to eat each meal. We still did PT. All of this depended on the phase we were in too. The first 2 weeks was total control so it was not laid back at all. As time went on it was more relaxed up until our last few weeks where we got on and off post passes. Although I was in OSUT (One Station Unit Training) so my basic was 17 weeks long.
Our DIs told us where the services were and when and left it to us to get there.
So of course we went to the PX for sodas and candy instead. I think they kinda knew but were OK as long as we didn't bring it back.
When I was in the British army they didn't quite understand my spiritual path, some of them had a problem that I refused religion point blank. My path involves emerging myself with nature, when you do this you start by meditation within a natural environment afterwards you let your senses take in your surroundings, appreciate and enjoy. I know it's hard to understand but that connection is what keeps me sane in this batshit crazy world. Yes there's more to it but that was the basics, but it helps me keep grounded and balances me. In the army we trained in my church quite a lot without even realizing it😁 when you connect with the land it helps a lot.
I'm Wiccan, but for Army purposes identify as Pagan. I don't observe any of the Wiccan holidays or "traditions" as I follow my own path. All of my rituals are done in silence, stillness, and solitude (meditation) - which all three are rare, if not, nonexistent in Army basic training. Rituals done in nature and out of sight from anyone else, which again is also near impossible in boot camp. I've had to adapt by just remembering the times I've been able to find that peace and try to relive the sensation. Paired with memories of scents and sounds of the forest, I can take myself back to that place anywhere I am.
My recruiter said I won’t have a problem for being Muslim in the military which was a relief, I was really surprised when he said we get religious services.
Yeah man, don't let normal civilian conflicts cloud the way you see the military. All the military cares about is "Can you do your job?"
Inshallah
Hey bro , how are you ? I wanted to Let you know . The Torah contains prophecy about a messiah who was Jesus . The prophecies state the virgin will give birth to a son and He shall be Called EMMANUEL which mean GOD With us . In other words God told peope to call Jesus God with them . For Jesus is God . He personally saved my life from hell . I was saved in 2020 from my own willand Satan will (that’s Homosexuality, pornography, unforgiviness, pesophilia ,
Etc )
Now I’m 18 I know God is the only way (choose Him over demonic Islam , that claims the opposite about Jesus )
Love you man
Very great video!
Shit man my experience a long while ago was on Sunday after church everybody would go into the laundry room and rake out and have 2 people keep watch for the drill sgt
Did yall have laundry service? I remember Sundays were the days that we did all of our laundry as well as the rest mentioned.I remembered at first I wasnt interested in going to church, and instead I was put on detail shoveling rocks out of a deuce and a half. Needless to say I found god by the next Sunday :-)
What if I praise at home I don’t go to church but I praise daily 🤔
It is really good to praise God at home every day. Really good job. But God did mention in the bible that we should not forsake His congregation/sanctuary or something like that so God really wants us to take atleast one day of the week and praise Him with his other followers.
Excellent video.
At Benning in 97 it was church or all day or sand bag detail. You pick. Cleaning too 😆
What if you're a Seventh Day Adventist?
You’re stuck cleaning. Have fun.
I’m SDA, the Protestant services will have to do.
Omg i was wondering the same thing
Toya G that’s great I needed to know that
I'm totally late here but I was wondering the same, I've been thinking of signing up for the Canadian forces and I couldn't find much on that... Do you still have to train on Saturdays?
Does boot camp have an eastern orthodox service?
Thats exactly what I was thinking too
Detail probably.
wall locker naps are the best
When I was in basic training we did have to train one Sunday because we missed 4 days of training due to the weather conditions. It was so bad that the entire base was shut down and this was during our weapons qualifications, so we had to do it.
Damn so what did ya’ll do during the bad weather days?
I was in the car with my mom when I watched this 😅😩😖😣
+stormrunner98 Hahahaa 😅
Shootemup89 thank you for making this one of the most awkward car rides I've ever had. 😂😂 I appreciate it.
Anytime bro hahaa
Yikes 😬😬😬😬

I’m agnostic so I’m pumped for Sunday’s when I go to BT I’ll be slumped 😴
ryan f you think that😂
When I went to Basic at Lackland AFB we still did PT in the afternoon on Sundays. Yes it was a pretty down day but we still had to do PT.
Well the Air Force is the military so I'd have to say yes it did. Now doing your AF job is a whole different issue.
When was this? As of recent the Air Force barely even does PT as far as I know lol. Like there’s days where they’re just in a classroom most of the day
One of my buddies stole unit patches from the DS office, then when we'd get to church we'd ditch and walk to the PX to call a cab. Once we got in we put on the patches and did whatever for 2-3 hours.
Gage Brock oh y’all BOLD bold lol. How did it go?
K. Byse we brought it up at the warriors meal when they gave amnesty. They were fuming. We asked our SDS what the worst thing anyone had done was and our FSGt answered for him and yelled “steal motherfucking unit patches and go off the goddamn post!!!”
Gage Brock 😂😂😂😂 so who got in trouble
