Right!!!! @shootemup98 you just got yourself a subscriber! I’m currently waiting on my moral waiver my battalion commander is in Puerto Rico but it should be next week I speak with him and then I’m off to Mephs!!
Thank you for your very informative videos. My son is 17 and left this week for Fort Benning. It helps a lot to get a clear picture of what he's experiencing. It eases some of my anxiety.
She may have lots of reasons to be worried. She may be against him going to the military, or even if she is, she is unfamiliar with what he will face. It’s her son, she can worry all she wants. Information helps cure worries.
Elizabeth -- SAME!! My only son is currently in his second week of BCT. I haven't had any contact with him since reception. I found that it helped when his DS started posting pictures on the Ft. B. military page. If you haven't found it yet, there's a great group on Facebook that posts lots of information and videos. I was very worried about his decision... but after watching several of these videos I'm feeling better. I know my SIT can do the job... and more importantly ... HE knows too. BTW -- the longer he's been gone the easier it's gotten... and as I've learned ... NO NEWS IS ACTUALLY GOOD. It means something hasn't gone wrong. Keep your phone handy tomorrow. You might get a call if the reception DS allows it. We got lucky and got a 30 minute one that Sunday. My son said he had to choose between going to church services or getting phone time though.
Wait... you're telling me that there's times when the Drill Sergeant would talk to you without smoking you? I assumed they were always smoking somebody anytime they were around?
Found this helpful, gets me even more pumped up for basic. I leave on July 31st, 11x Benning bound. You do a fantastic job on the vids, keep it up brother.
Hey Matt, great video! Based on my experience going through Army Basic, the amount of free time/personal time you get in Basic depends on what phase you are in. Generally speaking, you may not get any free time at all during Red phase. You may get ~30 minutes for personal time in White phase depending on your platoon's behavior, and maybe 1 hour during Blue Phase. But it really depends on the company/platoon you are with.
This has really changed since I was at Basic. I don't really recall any free time. If we were in our barracks, we were told to be shining boots, polishing brass or studying our "Smart Book". That is, if we weren't being smoked. We were not allowed to speak to the Drill SGT without fear until the blue phase. Also, we never got to bed before 10:00pm and were up at 3:00am because we had inspection at 4:00am (before PT). I guess it's a kinder, friendlier Army.
Thanks for the specifics. Am 32, wife, baby and one one the way and am really debating going into the reserves for multiple reasons. Your videos are helping me make that decision.
I’m in basic right now, Lights out at 21:00 and first formation is at 05:50. You get about 2-6 hours per day in red phase to study or clean your locker or stuff like that.
This is a great way to ease the not knowing factor for these young people. My son is in his 3rd. week basic did mine at Fort Gordon in 78' keep up the good work.
In Air Force Basic training you could. You also had your canteen by bedside that you could drink. I seemed to run better when I hydrated through the night. The dorm guard would make sure no one spent too long in the latrines. Some trainees attempted to kill themselves so they take it seriously.
Yes you will typically just need to check out at the Fireguard desk. You will have your camelback with you at all times. We typically hung them up on our bunks but you could definitely have it next to you or with you while you sleep. Hope this helps.
Smh I went to BCT at Ft. Jackson, we didn't get much free time...especially in red phase. We literally we doing work from 0430 to 2000. Toe to line was 2100. I guess you can say our free time was "smoke session" time. Lol.

Could you make us a video of what type of foods you are given at BCT? I'm going to Fort Jackson at the end of this month and am just wondering the type of foods new recruits are given.
For mail call, is it a daily thing or every other day? P.S. My husband just finished his first week of basic at Benning. That poor guy was so bored and miserable at reception 😂 and he sounded scared out of his mind when he arrived at basic. It's a good experience for him though! He's loving it

You don't get phone privileges until AIT. You just get a phone call at the end of each phase at basic training. If you do well you might get a few extra phone calls but I'd only expect 3.
Yes, Bibles ONLY. Whatever your religion's "holy book". But I recommend NOT bringing your own personally bible because it might and probably will be slightly messed up/crumbled/torn. You can pick up bibles at multiple times and just use the one they give you. That's what I did. I'm happy I didn't bring mine because it probably would have been messed up, one way or another. So yeah, no novels/magazines/whatever else.
Shootemup89 ok. i was gonna bring a personal bible but not the one i usually use so i can write in it. i figured if I'm gonna have nothing to do on my personal time for 3 months i might as well study the Bible in depth because I've been meaning to do that anyway. thanks. i love how fast your replies come :)

There were not females at Basic for me since I went to Benning before that was allowed but they were at my AIT. They are pretty strict on guys and girls being together and you aren't allowed to be alone so I wouldn't worry about that. Trust me, he would be around a lot more girls on the civilian side. Not sure if you are worried about anything but the best thing to do is not worry
Shootemup89 thank you this helps a lot he's at fort Benning too. No I'm not worried I just saw someone's video about the guys messing around but that was a different base and branch.
I am waiting on insurance to get a psych eval done due to a pre-existing condition but should be at basic soon. My question is can you bring books to basic training to read during free time and if so, what kinds are you allowed to bring? i read a lot so this is something that will definitely fill my 2 hours when nothing is going on
If you are skinny enough to get double meals then yes. But other than that you would really need to focus on trying to eat as much as possible if you want to gain weight.
In the Irish army we used to get up at 6:30am and be out on parade in front our NCOs at 7:30am and the we would be finish for the day anytime from 2100hrs/2300hrs. technically in the program we are supposed to have from 2000 -2300hrs as free time. But our instructors would often keep us busy until 21.30. In our “free time” we would be expected to still clean the block, press our uniforms and polish boots etc.. luckily in the Irish army we are aloud have our phones in our free time as well so it’s nice to ring home, etc if you have the time. And then lights out 2300 hours . Most of the time we would all still be awake with head torches on still cleaning our gear for inspections .
Conan 1812 okay but I have never claimed our army to better than the British as it is quite obvious we don’t have the funding or Man power to be anywhere near as powerful as your military. I have two friends in the British army and from talking to them it sounds like we are nearly trained almost the same, as I believe the Irish Defence forces models our recruit training and NCO course programs off yours. I can understand your hatred really for Irish people as you obviously grew up in a very rough and divided time in Northern Ireland. Very rough place back in the 90s and I’m sure you have served there. I would be the same. But I’m only 21 so I have no problem with any British people and I have much respect for British soldiers👍🏻
The more I watch your videos, the less horrifically terrifying BCT becomes. Thanks, boss!! Keep up the good work!

Yes, 2 Years TIS
and how long are contracts in the reserve?
You could sign a 3 year contract up to a 20 year contract if you really wanted to.
I thought in the military you can only sign a 4 or 6 year contract right ? Is active duty different?
vickimon the reserves (atleast where i am) you can leave when ever you want
@@paulabarnes233 Active duty has 8 reserve for my MOS 4 years of active and 4 years of reserve if they need me again. But since I was already active they'll only call me if there is nobody else to call or they want somebody with more experience.

My bf just left for basic just curious do y'all hang out with the women soldiers at all?
There were not females at Basic for me since I went to Benning before that was allowed but they were at my AIT. They are pretty strict on guys and girls being together and you aren't allowed to be alone so I wouldn't worry about that. Trust me, he would be around a lot more girls on the civilian side. Not sure if you are worried about anything but the best thing to do is not worry
Shootemup89 thank you this helps a lot he's at fort Benning too. No I'm not worried I just saw someone's video about the guys messing around but that was a different base and branch.
Distrust makes for short relationships
Female enlistees are housed separately, and fratinizing is prohibited.
So what if they do?
I am waiting on insurance to get a psych eval done due to a pre-existing condition but should be at basic soon. My question is can you bring books to basic training to read during free time and if so, what kinds are you allowed to bring? i read a lot so this is something that will definitely fill my 2 hours when nothing is going on
Slash Silverfang From my knowledge the only books allowed in basic are religious texts.
Kelan Painter thats a bit dumb but I can see why. thanks for taking your time out of your day to answer my question
No problem.
So would I be allowed to bring some books on my religion- Druid?
Did Chuck Norris go to Bootcamp
Seriously...he was an Air Force veteran and went to their boot camp at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas
What is morning PT like??
Gee golly gosh
For infantry answer none
I'm a skinny guy. will I be able to gain weight and muscle at basic
If you are skinny enough to get double meals then yes. But other than that you would really need to focus on trying to eat as much as possible if you want to gain weight.
thanks for the tip slim shady
Matt "slim shady" ward would eat you up boy
Larry Pepperwood Okay Larry
Idk why but your girlfriend looks like a drummer that I watch she's dope asf
You sound like you are from the south ! I am a northerner
I know during my free time, I spend my time learning new martial arts moves.
Conan 1812 Do you serve?
Conan 1812 and tell me what is your problem with the Irish Defence forces? Considering their is a lot of Irish in the British forces.
Conan 1812 Haha Thanks mate . Respect👍🏻
