If you’re wondering why I didn’t go for a trunk mounted camera (like I did in my Volvo XC90 backup camera install), there are a few reasons, but the main one was simplicity! Here are some things to consider for other mounting options: Getting wires into the trunk requires removing parts of the rear seats, and pulling the cable through the wiring harness grommets. Additionally, the wiring harness from the trunk to the trunk hatch retracts along the hinge, which adds some complexity to the install. Be careful working around the harnesses, they are known to be fragile on these cars! To install the camera into the bumper, we would need to find a grommet that connects the main cabin or trunk to the outside of the car, feed the wire through, and find a way to secure it under the car. There are cameras that can be mounted flush to the bumper if you drill a hole. The easiest way to mount a camera to the outside of the car may be to use a wireless camera, which still requires tapping into power. These are usually tapped into the reverse light wire, which would mean running a wire from the trunk hatch to the tail light harness, or finding a switched 12V power wire to tap into. Another thing to keep in mind with wireless cameras is they can have some latency issues. These are all good alternatives that might even give you better results, but they require more planning!
Yes, this radio would fit but there are extra connections to make for the earlier versions of the S-Class. You would also need a different fiber optic converter box than the one I used in my radio install video.
