"You should also read the handbook for your vehicle..." It was 560 pages, plus a DVD. I bought a 2001 S430 new in Feb 2001. Adored this car...i can say without exaggeration that both my head and heart literally swam every time I got behind the wheel. What I didn't love was the $70,800 window sticker price (non-negotiable / "no-haggling"). The S500 was $10,000 more, for just 27 additional horsepower, which bought you a 0-60 mph time of 6.0 secs. vs 6.9 secs. for the S430.

Keep in mind that this car cost about 100.000 DM fully equipped in 1998, which approximately is around 70.000€ in todays money. This is also just a video handbook, so of course they are gonna show a fully equipped W220, to show off all the features. The S-Class Was always meant to be a luxury vehicle, so don't expect your 15.000$ 2021 Honda Civic to have similar technology and features, because it isn't going to happen in this price segment.

I owned a new W220 between 2001 and 2005. it was a comfortable and very capable machine, but developed rust in the first 18 months and spent months off the road at the time due to a combination of factory parts delays and technician unfamiliarity. It also depreciated like a boulder dropped from a plane and had so many silly niggily faults that were inexcusable even at the time.

Those of you talking about it being unreliable have either never owned one or have no idea how to maintain a car. The poster who mentioned the ignition system came the closest to an accurate diagnosis. I had noticed there was an error in the electronic ignition when I scanned it. But I dismissed this since every Mercedes Techie I took it to never came close to that. Except on one occasion, a local guy here advised me that when he used the other set of keys, it seemed to scare the gremlins away for awhile. Ok.. So here it is: After spending thousands of dollars in useless labor, part fraud, time and cold hard tax paid cash and crying in my beer... One day I noticed that when I pressed the key fob button to unlock the doors, the little red diode on top of the fob was failing to light up. Aha.. Watson.. I think we're onto something. Fast forward pulling the key fob apart and replacing the battery.. Drum roll please. Investment - $4 and the time it took to replace the key fob batteries. Stop laughing : (
