I heard once from shabbar zaidi that intellectually top tier of Pakistan have already left and now second tier is running the country.
But after hearing Rafiullah it sounds like we still have someone from top tier and he is trying his best to improve the system.

One of the major reasons for the downfall and downward spiral of Pakistan is the normalization of what shouldn't be normalized, what is wrong, and what should be fixed. The latest in the series is the normalization of election rigging. Even top journalists are saying' Well, elections are rigged but so what? elections were rigged in 2018 also and before that also.' They are uttering this as if there is absolutely no need to fix it and election rigging should be accepted as normal.
Pakistan has similarly normalized so many wrongs like Army interference in politics, misogyny, religious extremism, fanaticism and intolerance, maltreatment of religious minorities, tax evasion and whatnot.
All this collectively has made Pakistan a nation-state heading for disaster, disintegration and dissolution sooner than later.

About to start the podcast shehzad Bhai. My presumption about the question is cuz there was no political insight from day 1 after independence.. Muslim league fought for Pakistan but they didn't had the slightest idea what to do next...All Mohd ali Jinnah wanted was as much area of northern India as he could.. He had no interest in KPK or Baluchistan.. and that has been the insight of the state ever since regarding these areas..

An excellent podcast, Rafiullah Kakar, to my mind is an absolute gem out of Balochistan. He talks about the skewed federal structure, the variety of issues that confront smaller provinces, and Balochistan in particular; the disconnect between the various branches and departments in the government, the absence of accountability of the senior members of the administration, and a focus on holding people at the lower level accountable, the issues that confront education; the stunted evolution of political parties and leadership owing to short tenures owing to the intrusion of the military etc, etc,. His analysis presents remedies and is not simply a series of complaints. Kudos to Shehzad Ghias Shaikh for inviting quality people and being extremely prepared to ask probing questions.

Really very accomplished, informed, humane and a lovable guest and a great conversation. Such men surely make difference in the fortunes of society / nation, but in long run and largely not visible and go unsung and not recognised,
Actually the backwardness in education and “ lack of demand “ argument doesn't hold well. In my life I haven't seen any mass protest or demand for better educational / health facilities in our south asian region and least in Europe or America. The local governments at village, ward and municipal levels take care of the issues. The school administration including it's staff, resources and finances are handled by elected authorities at these levels. They have highstakes in smooth running of the education and health facilities as these things help them in their re-election to office and strengthens their position in the party .18th. Amendments needs to be extended till village / municipal levels. Yes he was very correct when he said spending on education isn't less or comparable to any fellow asian countries buttge way this budget is utilised remains a spoilt of huge worry.
His discourse on individual morality vis-a-vis political morality was very good

The point that RafiUllah mentioned is that we don't have the qualified teachers and this is also a big reason that children lost interest in their studies because the teachers have not been able to teach the students very well. When I was in my 10th class in a government school in Dera bugti I can't even explain the simple definition of physics. But when I completed my matric by doing cheating in papers, and then went to a private academy to study my fsc. The professors in that academy were so great in their subjects that when I gave the medical entrance test after fsc the physics became my top scoring subject. We need qualified teachers or we have to train the teachers that are already in their service.

VP Singh government lasted 16 months from 89 to 90. ChandrashekhR government lasted 5 months from 1990 to 1991. That is when Narsimha Rao came to power with a coalition government. He could not have expected to last a full term. But he brought in transformational reforms. After Narsimha Rao govt. Lost in 1996, there were two governments that were out if power within 1 year each. At that time Vajpayee came to power in 1998. He did not ecoect a 5 yearcterm. But he initiated a transformationsl peace pricess with Pakistan apart from the nuclear detonation in 1998 may. Within 1 year he lost vote of confidence. He was re-elected in 1999. Did he expect a 5 year term when no non-congress government had ever completed one? No. But even then he took some major structural reforms.
I do not agree with the hypothesis that politicians can be given a free pass if they do not expect a full term. Neither Narsimha Rso nor Vajpayee had that expectation but they did what was right for the country.

But we actually want a secure border with Pakistan so I would really recommend that we get over the punjabi revenge mindset and move over to more fun times. Lots of fun to be had, why do u need a fauj on your Eastern front when they are happy with what the country has done to itself. 50% reduction in fauj and a border with India is good enough to take care of Af. Lots of benefits to be had if u just agree. Remember 100 years of Franco German conflict and now they have no borders so nothing to win

I'd love you and your guests using simple and easily understandable terms in order to reach out to a larger audience because I am sure most people don't understand some of the terms used by Kakar sahb or even other guests..

Rafi Ullah Kakar should be invited to The Black Hole, Islamabad and to tv talk shows.

The fundamental reason why Pakistanis are stuck or not progressing is because the leaders and even people don’t love the land they live in. They struggle with identity issues and other issues.
A leader like Modi will fix Pakistan. One can only pray that Pakistanis find that Modi for themselves.
