Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition is one of my absolute most favorite games of all time. And seeing someone complete this game 100% is absolutely insane!
@@Your_Native_Mothman if you’re wanting a Dynasty Warriors themed Zelda game where you can destroy countless enemies, nearly 30 playable characters, an absolutely banging soundtrack, and has you taking maybe 2,000 hours total to complete it 100%, then absolutely go for it! It’s so worth it!
I loved the wii u version. Never got legends cause I didn't want to play it on the small handheld screan. When I got a switch I was thinking between de or aoc. @@Chase1.9 I don’t even really like Dynasty Warriors, but seeing as how much of a Zelda fan I am it was more than worth it. The level designs, characters, move sets, and weapons have enough Zelda charm (and in some cases faithfulness) that I consider it separate from DW and even far superior.

Lmao I’m doing that atm time to spend money on the dlc to get every weapon in the game for every character to max level and max out every character and completing every challenge / quest
No, not really. The game is like 20 hours tops, the extra thousand hours needed to fully complete it are literally copy paste bs and repeating levels to the point of giving the players PTSD. You can make any game take inhuman amount of hours if you tell them "If you want to fully completely it, you gonna need to do this same map hundreds of times, with dozens of characters, and in multiple levels of difficulty", would you call that kind of sh*t "Getting your money's worth"? Of course not. No one would.
@@taigaaisaka6305 Then it just isn't your kind of game. I have like 150 hours in HW and i'm not even close to finished (maybe if i stopped starting new save files). It definitely is worth the money if the game clicks with you.

@@christiankhnana5284 I think games like this CAN be completed, but must be done at a leisurely pace. As in that's a requirement to complete them, if you play them daily over and over, you'll complete them faster. But it takes a toll on your mental and physical wellbeing. Much like Jirard with the Five Nights games, how he went from enjoying the novelty of them to developing anxiety from them. I developed a similar fatigue when I was grinding for kills in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and Resistance 2's 10k online kills.
@@tonts5329 I agree with you, these games can be completed but that should only be done slowly and not rushed, but the problem here is that this is his job and he must put a video out every week of him completing games, so he can't really take his time. Yea I feel that should be pretty obvious on this one. It was basically designed to be endless. I play this game a lot and enjoy it immensely but I’m probably never going to finish it or if I do it’ll be like 10 years from now. That being said age of calamity is nothing anywhere close to this game.

@@LukaTheWanderer exactly. After a while it just takes the fun out of the experience.
this video made we want to 100% complete the game. im about 300 hours in edit: im over 500 hours in. im going through the 6th map in adventure mode. ive 100%completed the other maps. i havent gotten all the heart containers and skulltulas in story/free mode but i figure itll be much easier to do so once i finish the biggest chunk of the game. all my characters are at minimum lv 100 with a few climbing closer to the max level. i hate the fairy system now. edit2: I am 850 hours in. all maps and story mode are 100% completed with A rank, the fairy magic is completed and I have all medals. The only things left are ganons fury, cuccos fury and the a rank for every character in challenge mode. my lowest level warrior is 150 and it is a cruel grind to 255 for all characters. I had to take a break due to having multiple surgeries, work, moving and other games taking my attention. I pray to be done before hitting 1000 hours. Once I do complete, I plan on recording my screen as proof and uploading to youtube.
@@toxicpurple0742 had to pause because of major surgery BUT im about 750 hours in, all maps completed, fairy stuff all done, lowest level on any warrior is 150 and all I have now is the a rank for boss mode and the ganon/cucco bullcrap
as a hardcore Zelda completionist I know I will have to do this one day. I got maybe like 25% through it when it released but then stopped to re-100% every mainline Zelda game. honestly seems fun and when I come back to it I'll probably start from scratch since I like doing games in one go. good luck on your journey, hopefully it is almost over!
@@Mark_of_Tread Nintendo locks one ultra-powerful "costume" for Link behind a completion of all other modes/etc. It's Jirard in his Tingle costume. When playing the game while wearing it characters occasionally call you Jir-Tingle.
"Incremental" and "prestige" are two words that are very familiar to me as someone who has 100%'ed Cookie Clicker (to as much of an extent as that game "can" be completed, anyway) Yet to do something like this? I can't even imagine. That number of Heart Containers collected alone just blows my face off!
Here’s a hellish thought for you, Tim. Hyrule Warriors Randomizer. Each map square completed unlocks another one on any of the 10 maps. I shudder just writing this thought.
The big difference is that Cookie Clicker can be completed with only a fracture of active playtime, being an idle game, while Hyrule Warriors needs full active playtime
About a year ago, when I looked into the true depths of possible content this game had, I knew I could play this game casually for my entire life and maybe just barely complete it. You absolute madlad.
The madman actually did it. The original Hyrule Warriors just has some of the most content I’ve ever seen in a game. The sheer amount of grinding necessary for this game is insane. Good job Jirard
Something else to note. It isn't even possible to 100% complete the Wii U version of Hyrule Warriors. In Challenge Mode one of the challenge stages is bugged when playing as Ghirahim (a boss that needs to be killed to complete the stage just won't spawn when Ghirahim is played). So it isn't even possible to complete that stage with Ghirahim, much less A Rank it. Thus A Ranking every challenge stage with every character in Challenge Mode on the Wii U is impossible (thus making 100% Completion impossible on the Wii U version of Hyrule Warriors).
@@nothanks6549 despite the complaints in the video the adventure maps are fun, just don't do every challenge with every character because that's disgusting and bad for mental health

Well I love how much this stuff this game has, it’s amazing in bursts but it’s a shame he ruined something he could have had a lot of fun with by doing it all at once
AOC is so much better that I'm never going to boot up HW again. It was a complete non-sensical mess with a meh story that didn't matter and involved versions of characters we never met without any characterization.
Congrats Jirard! I'm currently about 690 hours into this game on my road to completion, so seeing this video, I know the struggle man. Anyways in case it would please you to hear it, completing Age of Calamity is a waaaaaaaaaaaaay smaller task than Definitive Edition, the level cap for each character is just 100, which isn't a lot higher than the level you'll be when you beat the game. I won't spoil how many characters and movesets there are but there are considerably less than in Definitive Edition. Completing Age of Calamity took me around 90 hours, and I'd say it was worth it. It offers things that the original doesn't while still being somewhat similar, but even after having poured hundreds of hours into the original I can say the game was worth it. Overall I consider the original to be a better game, but Age of Calamity is still great in its own right in case you'd ever want to attempt it for the show or your own time. But for now, please take it easy!
I honestly prefer Age of Calamity over the original. It may have less content but it is way more fleshed out and refined. It's a testament to quality over quantity. Also I have all three versions of OG Hyrule Warriors and just don't want to play through the campaign again.
After watching this, I realized how Age of Calamity is a walk in a park to 100% compared to this game. And then I realized DLC was announced and it’s most likely going to make 100% even harder
Yes and no. The checklist for 100% is MUCH smaller than being a "completionist," namely the fact that the scoreboards for every mission and challenge don't contribute to the 100% meter.
Age of calamity took me about 75 hours to complete everything. I didn't do the harder difficulties or the 28 korok seed quest but did everything else. It's very completable with dlc. A logical endpoint that most people can complete and feel satisfied with exists unlike HRDE which has difficulty barriers to prevent skipping content.
I completed Age of Calamity with DLC end of last year, and can't remember exactly all of what I did, I think I did everything except max out every character's level and finished off at 80 hours. So yeah, not nearly as bad. I think Nintendo had tighter reigns on what the developers were able to add to this game to not make it stray too far from canon (even though it's basically an alternate timeline). It still feels like it could fit into the BotW universe as opposed to the original HW which felt like Zelda fanfic: the game
@@Ashanmaril The thing about saying that "AoC feels like it could fit in with BoTW." (i'm using slight paraphrasing obviously) is that AoC is semi-canon to the BoTW-story continuity; to be specific basically everything other than the countermeasures against the Champions dying being taken (and the Champions being alive obviously) is canon as a "prequel"-part of BoTW's story as far as I understand. I do own AoC by the way but i haven't finished it yet or even gotten through atleast half of the story (as far as I know), although I have unfortunately spoiled myself about quite a bit of the story.
This is the kind of game I can always go back to. Not out of replayability in any form, but because, no matter how I try to chip away at it, it will never run out of content.
That's exactly the kind of game this is. Play it for a while until you feel burned out, then return to it much later and keep chipping away at it. Definitely not meant to be binged all in one go lmao
Yeah, im glad I saw this video. All it shows is that this game has heaps apon heaps of content I can enjoy. All for what, $60? Thats what? 17 cents per hour played? I think he blew through the game in no other reason to his own. It's like trying to complete WoW in its entirity then acting surprised that it has alot of content.
It's probably one of the biggest reasons why i love this game so much (that and the highly addictive gameplay, imo of course). I can always go back to it from time to time and have a blast, it never gets boring for me. I just wish we could change the difficulty of Adventure Maps, that or a Skirmish Mode were you create your own battles.
My god, as a huge fan of Hyrule Warriors, I can't imagine the dedicated effort it would take to 100% it, fully and truly. I love the series, but it is a lot of work. I loved it for the "busy work" it gave me when I would be at the college for all day at times. Gave me something to do and look forward to between classes. And as new versions came out, I'd get them too. It was so much fun, and all the new characters coming out was exciting to see and look forward to. I would love a "proper" Hyrule Warriors 2 though, with Cia, Lana, Linkle, Volga and Wizzro. I still hold out hope for another. I'd love to see some Minish Cap and Four Swords love, maybe some ALTTP love too. It's such a fun series, even if I only tackle it in short bursts at a time.
Aghinim and pig\beast ganon costumes for Ganondorf and Zelda's blue dress and pink Bunny Link from alttp. The ice rod and magic cape would make good aditions. Maby some of the dungoun bosses can apear too.
Ooooooooooooooo, could you imagine Four Swords Link(s) as a playable character in Hyrule Warriors?!?! You could literally have Link with the Four Sword with the three clones of himself and they can all run around together and fight together like the different formations in Four Swords Adventures's single player!!
See I'm watching this video and I can't really enjoy it cos I'm legit concerned about your mental health now. Like dude, don't let these things effect your real life so much. Tis just a UA-cam video y'know? Don't sweat it.
You, Jirard Khalil, are a hero. By fully completing and officially documenting this journey you have done a service to gamers and the good of the human race alike. You have my eternal praise, gratitude, and apologies for your sacrifice.
In earlier ages, games were designed to be completed. There was a limited amount of content you could squeeze into a single disk, and getting everything was often needed to unlock the golden ending or a final reward. Once that happened, though, the game was over - there was nothing left to do. If you wanted to play the game again years later, you would have to erase your save file, or you'd feel like you were doing nothing. But as time progressed and the ability to pack more and more content into a game expanded, the philosophy of game design itself shifted. Games were no longer something you finished - they were something to come back to, time and time again, and always be able to find something new. You would never have to "start over" - you could set new goals for yourself, and there would always be a new goal to strive for. Games with huge lists of ways to customize your character, cosmetic or otherwise (when you can only have a few active at once), for instance, almost always fall into this category. You're not SUPPOSED to get them all, even if you theoretically can. You're supposed to get the ones you like the most and in doing so tailor the experience to your own tastes. After that point they serve as new goals to keep playing for when you feel like coming back to the game, but getting them all isn't really "completing the game" in the same way that, say, getting 120 stars in Super Mario 64 or unlocking the True Endings of DKC2 or 3 are. In short, games like these were not MEANT to be completed. They were meant to be an insurmountable mountain, an escape from life, a whole other world that would always offer something new, and most importantly, a way to have fun. To complete a game like this is to expose its bounds, to reveal it for the fantasy that it is, and in doing so, destroy that fantasy itself. You are The Completionist. But the world of triple-A games no longer *wants* completionists. It may be time to re-focus on smaller titles that still use the old philosophy of completionism, or to come up with a new, more appropriate definition of "completion" for titles such as this.
This sort of thing has been on my mind ever since Crash 4 came out, and Spelunky 2 continued the thought. It kinda seems like paradigms of creation are shifting and both devs and players have a need to adapt.
I agree. I was honestly surprised when jirard completed this, because i thought he would avoid games like these. Idk, it just seems like actual torture to sit down and do this with the thought in mind of completing it. Sure, we may do it half heartedly and occasionally attempt such a feat, but in order to do so would be to throw your life away. Please never do this again Jirard. It isn't wirth your time or effort. It is an incredible feat to defeat what is not meant to be deafeted, but the cost is realizing you could have done that with a game you enjoy.
I largely agree with you except on your last point. I'm unsure of what you mean by AAA games no longer wanting completionists. What standard are you using to assert that? Do you mean modern AAA multiplayer games like Apex Legends or a new Call of Duty? If so, then you're right, largely because modern multiplayer games are purposely harder and harder to "complete". Or do you mean modern AAA single player games? If so, that's where I have to disagree. Most modern singleplayer games still easily allow for completionism, even if it's only extrinsically rewarded through achievements and trophies. Take Sony and their 1st party 3rd person games, for example. In God of War, Days Gone, or Spider Man, you can easily complete the game and feel good doing so. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that although I agree that the hobby completionism seems to be harder and less appealing, I still think it isn't going anywhere, especially for single player games. Personally, my only wish is that games start including intrinsic rewards for fully completing the game again. If they can't do skins or extras like that, a "100%" on your save file would be more than enough for me.
@@nuclear9929 Agreed. It seems to me that to force yourself to complete something this massive that's inherently all grind would cause you to eventually hate it...even if you completely loved it in the beginning. As he himself said, he can't even be bothered to want to play Age of Calamity (or any other DW title) simply because of the toll that completing this game took out on him. And that's a shame because, in my humble opinion, AoC is superior to this title in nearly every way. That sucks. When you get to the point that your hobbies are no longer things you love, you have a problem. Gaming should not be a job...it should be a joy.
needing to complete this game for a show is absolutely such a different beast to playing it leisurely where the content is a boon rather than a challenge. sorry you couldn't experience this game like the rest of us man
Right? Like just the amount of planning required to complete this game without massively wasting your time is more thought than I will probably ever put into beating a game.

You can beat it in less than that, but certainly not complete it.
Age of Calamity is, even the original release of this could be said is, but DE definitely isn't...even though it actually is built around not even unlocking all the characters (much less the weapons), unless you push for, perhaps not 100%, but very very high levels of completion. This game is THE fanservice game to end all fanservice games. It was designed so that it could be played over a lifetime to celebrate Zelda. It's not meant to be forced through like this, but it arguably is designed to be completed. I think Ganon designed the game himself, it's really evil in how it spaces out the content. The original let you complete each character and DLC set with their respective maps and this one spreads out everything over all maps. Insanity. I can't recommend full completion of AoC either (it only unlocks the Hyrule Warrior outfit for Link, so it really ends with a whimper), but getting close to completion there is a side quest path that unlocks a final, secret character, and that's really cool, but I think the path to that opens up right after beating the final chapter of the story anyways, so the side missions are...probably...largely optional. I'm not really sure cause I did them all as they unlocked anyways, lol

@@liamsgreatbitgaming Star Ocean 2 has a collection feature that records every voice file in the game. To get one recorded you need to hear it. This involves every character interaction within battle including death reactions between characters with high enough relationship values. Raising a character's relation value is done through one time actions throughout the game and by spending enough time together in combat. I'd argue that Warriors games aren't meant to be "completed" in this fashion except by the most diehard and/or bored of fans. You just play them until you get bored of them, or until the next Warriors game than interests you is released. The content is just there to keep you occupied until you decide you are done. Similar goes for the sheer number of Warriors games that get released. Hyrule Warriors was honestly a bit of a weird case, as it was made to draw in non-Warriors fans and was released on a platform that didn't see seemingly three new Warriors games released per year, and Nintendo/Koei went far beyond the normal Koei standard for amount of content delivered.
It is like someone trying to "100%" a D&D campaign, but the dungeon master just keeps making things up... It is kind of insane, this completionist stuff... Actually it is totally insane.
As a warriors vet I 100% each one well ever since DW6 and on though I say the samuria line games are the only ones that actually give you good awards for 100% the whole game HWDE took me about 6 months to complete mainly cause some of the battles on the mm map confused me

I'm planning to complete it too, but I need someone to explain for me how to raise the fairies, cause they are a pain in that place, a friggin PAIN, all the rest just takes time, the fairies I just don't understand their mecanics
The year is 2082, and cyborg jirard has released a new video on the current video platfrom. The time has come for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity 100 percent completion.
This definitely seems like a game that was designed to be played over a long period of time, not to be completed in rushed method like this. Hats off to you for doing this though. I could never be a completionist, normally playing any game over again without having months or years in between playthroughs would make me get pretty bored or hate the game ha ha. The man just wasted countless hours of his life doing daunting and tedious tasks all for us, what a legend. But my dude, sometimes you can chillax and not set up yourself to such high standards all for us. Do something for yourself man, you earned it.
Reminds me of when i completed Dynasty Warrior's Gundam 3...Listen, never. EVER. Complete. A dynasty warrior's game, Dynasty Warrior's games have a deceptively huge amount amount of content, especially in recent year's and MOST especially the Nintendo tie in titles like the Fire Emblem Warrior's and Hyrule Warrior's game's. They're meant to be game where you can just pick em up, play em for about an hour and put them down. There's always going to be something for you to do, something for you to collect, but getting all of the content is a nightmare that no one needs to go through. If you do it, it's either out of insanity, love or a combination of both and somewhere a long the way you either gain or lose one of those things. I love the Dynasty Warrior's style games because of the amount of content and time you can sink into it, it's just one of those games you don't have to put down when you win, you put it down when your satisfied. Completing them is not satisfying.

Something else to note. It isn't even possible to 100% complete the Wii U version of Hyrule Warriors.
Why would you try this after watching this video??? Yikes.
Does it really count as 100% if you didn’t do it on all 4 difficulties
You played it that long on purpose,

Just wait until Age of Calamity gets DLC...

Jirard: “I still have the costume”
Me: i came up with an idea for the next Eff it episode
You're supposed to get the ones you like the most and in doing so tailor
the experience to your own tastes.
You are right but still... This game is ALWAYS reminding you that you didn't get it all, it is shaming you! 😂😭
The Sound Collection feature in Star Ocean 2 is laughing maniacally right now.
Care to elaborate?
@@liamsgreatbitgaming Star Ocean 2 has a collection feature that records every voice file in the game. To get one recorded you need to hear it. This involves every character interaction within battle including death reactions between characters with high enough relationship values. There are twelve characters, only 8 of which can be recruited on any given playthrough. Raising a character's relation value is done through one time actions throughout the game and by spending enough time together in combat.
The annoying thing is that it is not possible to 100% the sound collection feature without a cheat device as the game has collections for characters calling out to each other that can never be in the party at the same time or calling out spells that they can't learn.

My jaw dropped when I saw the title. I’m already concerned for this man’s health, but... wow. This is INCREDIBLE
It took me a little over 80 hours to get 100% on Age of Calamity. It's a great game, but it feels like a bite-size portion of this game in terms of amount of content.
I'm going back to play Hyrule Warriors Definitive edition rn, but I'm definitely not aiming to 100% it.
I finally stopped having nightmares about Jirard in that Tingle outfit, and now it is back!
You could call it, a Completionist nightmare! I'll see myself to the door.
Trade you, I've been having one of Tingle in a Jirard outfit.
Second time he tried this, at least he isn’t being threatened of being forcibly dressed up like Tingle this time
Now he only dresses up as Tingle to be kinky
Just wait until he gets to skyrim again
@@themightynemo2144 The Husky Argonian Maid 😏

Jirard: I am finally done and it feels like a burden has been taken of my life. Nintendo: Age of calamity will get 5 years of extra DLC and a port to the Nintendo bazinga with a whole new and larger my fairy mode, 20 challenge maps all with 300 squares and 150 medals.
Well...... considering how well age of calamity was received i can only imagine that it will get close to (if not just as much) DLC as the original hyrule warriors, so you might be closer to the truth than you think.
@@arthurgomes5188 I'm kinda terrified of that prospect, but also kinda happy about that.
Going through the comments I was kinda upset to hear that AoC apparently didn't have ANYWHERE near the amount of content that the original had because it was more meant to be completed... but I'm excited to see just how much stuff the new game is going to hold then.
@@aquamarinerose5405 well, AoC does have a lot of stuff, but, it's more streamlined and less "repetitive" than the original hyrule warriors, wich means that instead of going through hundreds of hours doing very similar missions you can do it all in less than/around 100 hours.
Also the OG hyrule warriors got a lot of it's content that made it as long as it is in the re-releases for other consoles and in the DLC, not in the base game.
@@arthurgomes5188 it wasn’t really all that well received though. Sure it sold well but how many people are actually even finishing the story? Even most main Nintendo based UA-cam channels gave up on that game.
@@curtisbakaluk177 well, vinesauce finished it, zackscott is still playing it and the reviews and sales from the game were pretty good, i'm not saying it was a smash hit, but, it did pretty well.
Ganon's Fury mode: Exists
Nintendo: I like that mode. That is a nice mode
That's because Koei Tecmo are massive Zelda fans themselves. They really wanted to make HW a labour of love, and it definitely shows.
As a warriors vet I 100% each one well ever since DW6 and on though I say the samuria line games are the only ones that actually give you good awards for 100% the whole game HWDE took me about 6 months to complete mainly cause some of the battles on the mm map confused me
You’re not going to 100% this game just because you’re bored.
Did you do it? “Yes....”
What did it cost? “Everything...”
I love how i got a health insurance ad for this
"Your premium will automatically double if you have labeled yourself a Completionist."
I adore this game. Easily one of my favourites from the last 10 years or so, but trying to 100% it is sheer madness. I’d hate it too.
And that's the story of how "Hyrule Warriors" became Jirard's safe word.
"My punishment was to dance at Nintendo headquarters in a Tingle costume"
Me: "Wait, thats a punishment?"
Never complete a Dynasty Warriors game. “Completion” is the release of the next game in the series
I'm currently trying to "complete" one piece pirate warriors 3. I agree... but at the same time, game is fun as hell and I'm not torturing myself to accomplish this in a time table.
@@Paur i did its at least 3 times shorter then hw
You're a treasure, Jirard. Thank you for bringing us so much great content, for free, all the time. It makes a difference during these trying times.
I have not clicked on a video so fast.
I remember Jirard taking a train to Redmond to do a promo for this which resulted in him wearing a Tingle costume.
YOU'RE A HERO!! Your determination is truly inspiring, dude
Imagine the 100% Speedrun for this game...

“Lackluster sales” Hyrule Warriors and Age of Calamity are the highest selling Dynasty Warriors games tho

I will admit that this has not discouraged me from my plan to eventually complete this game. It may take years but it will happen.
I'm right there with you. Hyrule Warriors, best game of the century.
I got the game a few months back and it took me 80 hours to 100% the first adventure map. I dunno if I'll 100% but getting the Master Sword and all the items/costumes for fighters and fairies is goal enough for me right now, and I'm having a blast with it.
I'm planning to complete it too, but I need someone to explain for me how to raise the fairies, cause they are a pain in that place, a friggin PAIN, all the rest just takes time, the fairies I just don't understand their mecanics
Seeing the amount of time he put into this makes me want to play it more now lol.

I admire you for being able to not only play a game multiple times in multiple difficulties but to also try to get every nook and cranny.

Who here remembers when Jirard dressed up as Tingle after failing to complete the Wii U version in time
That was the Switch version, he played it on a train and iirc he had to complete the first adventure mode map before the ride was over.
@@limegol He had to beat Legend Mode and complete the Termina Map before the train arrived in Seattle. I don't remember if he had to complete Legend Mode or just beat it tho, but I do remember he barely finished Legend Mode

It is a great game,I recommend focusing on adventure mode more than story mode,it's super fun and you unlock characters from it!
Calling this "The second one" is kind-of wrong because (atleast as far as I understand) "HW: DE" is literally just "HW" but with what was DLC to it in the original version (Wii-U version) now being in the base game to begin with as well as free "DLC" added.

One of the first games i actually didn't worry about completing because it was too enormous. Thank god my perfectionism took a break.
The man just wasted countless hours of his life doing daunting and tedious tasks all for us, what a legend. But my dude, sometimes you can chillax and not set up yourself to such high standards all for us. Sometimes the Completionist doesn’t always have to be the Completionist and can just be Jirard playing a game for himself because he enjoys it, not for the people. Do something for yourself man, you earned it.
Fire emblem warriors is a cakewalk compared to Hyrule Warriors.
Yup! Got that right.
Fun game tho
The sheer dedication of this man. An inspiration to us all
The beginning of this video reminded me of what you said in one of your much older videos. "This game is really hard, and it makes me cry."
