Sunshine was underrated IMO. Sure, the camera isn't as good as the games that came after it, but it certainly was an upgrade from Mario 64. Jirard, thanks for putting so much time and love into these videos. Seeing tons of your completionist videos actually inspired me last year to get all the Shines in this game, and I did. I had a pretty good time. Not my favorite game to 100%, but one that I loved before completion and one I love even more after. However, I must disagree with a few things. This is the internet after all. :) I actually really like the camera, I feel it controls well. Yeah, it can mess up from time to time, but I prefer the ability to fully control the camera over a fixed camera like Galaxy's. Also, I like the voice acting. I get why some people find it cheesy or even bad, but I find it to be really entertaining. While I wish the cutscenes were skippable, I find the voice acting gives the game a Saturday Morning Cartoon vibe, and I love that. I still respect your opinions, but these are my own.

7:25 Actually, fun fact, there was a scrapped voice clip for Mario when he was talking to Toadsworth, meaning that he may have been intended to talk during development.
This is literally one of my favorite games of all time. I put so many hours into it as a kid and never get tired of revisiting it. I’m so sad it’s never been revisited by Nintendo.
Love this game. Can't put in a comment how much it's peculiarity draws me in. But that story element about Bowser Jr's assumption of Peach being his mom was strange. To quote SomeCallMeJohnny: "Holy shit, she had to think about that!" Sums it up for me.
That soundtrack takes me back man. Sunshine is still my favorite Mario title. I had Yoshi, a tropical theme, a squirt gun and fun physics. What's not to love?
Sunshine was one of those game that I bought instantly upon seeing it simply based on how good Mario 64 was, but was then relatively fast weirded out. What made me put it down for a while tho was not it's weirdness, more that it felt a bit boring in some places, and unreasonably hard in others, with not much in between in the eyes of my younger self. When I eventually came back to it tho - because when I hate one thing then it's buying games that I never finish - I had a blast and really liked it a lot. Except for maybe the lava ride at the end. But otherwise the game really is fine. Weird but fine.
I absolutely love this game, it it so much fun! But without a comprehensive in-game blue coin checklist, it is not worth completing. I tried recently. It was a GRIND that could have been easily avoided.
I still cry to the soundtrack of this game the tropical environments with music that fits along with some tasks that make you feel like a tourist of an actual tropical island
I'm a simple man, I see Super Mario SUNSHINE, and I yell and scream in tears of joy. This game basically set Luigi and Mario in different places with the same bad guy, the mister tech, watch MatPat's video lol I should also note; Song of the Deep is a good Metroidvania.
5:30 So sunshine has a wonkey camera? In galaxy I got killed because of teh camera!!! Why does Sunshine get ripped because of the the free camera, while galaxy has the worst camera control of any mario game EVER!
Yeah, I have similar feelings with Sunshine and 64. Sure the camera in Sunshine requires a little babysitting, but that's what the right stick is for! The right/left thing is a bit wonky to me, but you adjust to it, and it's literally the exact same camera used in The Wind Waker a game almost everyone agrees is brilliant, now. Meanwhile, the camera in Mario 64 always seemed at least 15-degrees off of where I wanted it. Any time I tried to fix it, it *always* went too far the other way (when a wall or other obstacle wouldn't inexplicably stop me from rotating the camera, at all). I've played through Sunshine several times and can count on one hand the points in the game where I couldn't get the camera pointed where I wanted it. (In fact, I usually reach a point where I just tilt the left stick forward all the time and use the camera to steer, since, being right-handed, I have better fine motor control with that hand.) In 64, I found myself having to work around the camera every 5 minutes, usually having to settle for moving at an unnatural angle, because that's just the way the camera wants to point.... and yet to hear people talk about it, 64 is a flawless masterpiece whose camera, at worst, gets a passing mention as a minor annoyance, even when compared to more recent entries, while Sunshine's is horrible abomination that completely ruins the game for people. I just don't get it!
3:20 I disagree with you there. The only move Mario has Naturally at the start of Galaxy is the Long Jump which can't be abused like the Dive in Sunshine which gets you places really fast not to mention the very useful Spin Jump which leads into the Triple Jump. I felt Galaxy was a step back in that regard. Mario in Galaxy has less moves than he did in 64 and Sunshine and it really shows in the 3D All-Stars collection when you are playing them back to back. Sunshine at least replaced the moves taken out (Punch and Long Jump) with something to replace them (Spin Jump and Dive). All Galaxy did was take out the Spin Jump and Dive while restoring the Long Jump and adding a Spin Move that can't be spammed and needs a Special Luma to use.
saying it's weird that Sunshine doesn't take place in the Mushroom Kingdom, like... Mario 2 Mario 3 Mario World Mario Land Mario Land 2 Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 Mario Odyssey like the only games that take place in the Mushroom Kingdom are the "new" series at this point lol

I’m honestly watching this just to build my hype for the collection I’m so exited to play sunshine
Me too I've also been listening to the sound track
I think this game also introduced Toadsworth, who for me at least has become a staple, but that might just be because this was my first 3D Mario.
I love how they wait for Jirard to re-complete Sunshine before releasing it again in HD
6:30 So not in the mushroom kingdom is weird?? Yeah, beause the entire GALAXY is in the mushroom kingdom.
THIS IS THE GREATEST 3D MARIO GAME EVER CREATED
Never had this game owned but only played it at a local McDonald’s that used to have a little area with GameCubes and this was one of the games. Every time we went I’d immediately try and play the game. I tried getting as far as I could but never could get past like the first 1 or 2 levels since it the GameCube was set to always reset completely every now and then
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that every episode of The Completionist has custom art
"There are many great things about Mario"
Charles Martinet,
If you haven't had the chance to meet the voice behind the 'stache, you are missing out on a wonderful, warm hearted man that deserves all the love and praise he has earned over the years
Jirard, thanks for putting so much time and love into these videos. Seeing tons of your completionist videos actually inspired me last year to get all the Shines in this game, and I did. I had a pretty good time. Not my favorite game to 100%, but one that I loved before completion and one I love even more after.
However, I must disagree with a few things. This is the internet after all. :)
I actually really like the camera, I feel it controls well.
Mario rides a freaking dinosaur and yet him wearing a robot is weird?
Mario is the Mickey Mouse of Asia, more specifically of Japan 🤣🤣
No its Pikachu Mario is the master chief or something
Mickey Mouse lost his star power to Mario long ago, especially when Mickey started catering only to Preschoolers.
@@UltimateGamerCC Mickey himself never had that much star power. The Mickey, Donald and Goofey universe itself did though and still does. At least Ducktales 2017 and the kinda gross Mickey Shorts.
@@Rockleefan3 actually, Mickey used to be almost as well-known as Ronald McDonald, nowadays he's a shell of his former self.
and dont get me started on that abomination that calls itself Ducktales...
Mickey was pretty cool until kingdom hearts 3
Here's my opinion. Mario 64 has nostalgia and the first 3d game factor. Being the first 3d game and having such nice control goes VERY far. Mario sunshine has a charm to it, being vacation and mario sporting a short sleeve. But yeah those bowsers voice and script, all you can say is what were they thinking
Feels good watching this on the morning of the Mario 3D All Stars reveal
True
I will never forget what bowser said to mario in the bathtub
"MARIO! HOW DARE YOU DISTURB OUR FAMILY VACATION!" *roars*
Was Peach also in the tub?
Sooooo when's that HD remaster for the Switch coming, Nintendo?
In about 2 weeks! =D
It came out, except it’s just a port, but it IS hd tho
No way Jirard had only 9 deaths when the Pachinko Machine and Lilly Pad challenge exist in this game! Not to mention those goddamn F.L.U.D.D-less Secret Levels!
Lilly pad and pachinko aren’t even that hard
@@defaultusername1145 the Hell they aren't!!!
@@theultimatefrozenfan lily pad people make way more difficult than it needs to be and pachinko has a way to get each red coin 100% of the time with the right stratagy
@@defaultusername1145 are you even a real person?! Based on your name and PP I'm guessing you're a not who hasn't played the game to 100% because no REAL person who played the game 100% would ever say that!
@@theultimatefrozenfan yes I have for the lily pad level people are just don’t know how to move it right and pachinko has tricks to get it 100% of the time
I got this game when it came out and remember thinking, "This is the first time I've played a game that was just FUN in a long time."
I was like...16.
Fun fact I learnt recently watching JP streamers is that the Japanese version of Sunshine has the English voice-acting too, which even calls FLUDD FLUDD, despite the Japanese subtitles actually calling him ポンプ (Ponpu, i.e. Pump)
In the context of all Mario games, even only up to sunshine, I don’t think sunshine stands out as weirder than the rest.
So glad you finally covered super Mario sunshine again! It's my favorite Mario game ever!
I love this game so much. Brings back tons of nostalgia and happy memories. If only I could relive that period.
7:25 Actually, fun fact, there was a scrapped voice clip for Mario when he was talking to Toadsworth, meaning that he may have been intended to talk during development.
It’s in the Japanese version
About to pick this game up for $40, can’t wait to play it!
The title be like: "Super Mario Sunshine Is A Refreshing Blast Of Bizarre"
Me: *pillar men theme plays*
This is literally one of my favorite games of all time. I put so many hours into it as a kid and never get tired of revisiting it. I’m so sad it’s never been revisited by Nintendo.
My childhood!!! I'm crying. Thank you Jirard
Yes, yes: “In one nation we trust under King Koopa.”
That’s how it goes
I don't think it's weird at all. It's a game for grown people and it's a game for enjoyment.
Can’t wait to replay this on Friday ! Get hyped
I thought the Pachinko level was the bane of my existence, but I was wrong... that dishonor goes to the goddamn Lily Pad level.
The Blue coins give me war flashbacks
A lot of people don't know that fludd was a major influence for splatoon
Love this game. Can't put in a comment how much it's peculiarity draws me in. But that story element about Bowser Jr's assumption of Peach being his mom was strange.
To quote SomeCallMeJohnny: "Holy shit, she had to think about that!" Sums it up for me.
You put 37 hours in for a full complete and you only died 9 times? No way…
The best memory of Mario Sunshine, inspiration for A Hat in Time.
SAME it id uneccesarly hard in so many areas and you die without knowing why
Hope ya have a happy 4th, Jirard! Hope everyone you know stays safe!
I absolutely love this game, it it so much fun! But without a comprehensive in-game blue coin checklist, it is not worth completing. I tried recently. It was a GRIND that could have been easily avoided.
This is my favorite right now. Always relaxing and happy making
Finally!!! Jirard my dude you've made my whole day with this video. 👊👊
Super mario sunshine probably has the best controls of any of the mario games prior to Odyssey.
Can we just talk about how the last level of this game is called Corona Mountain.
What about it? Corona just means crown in Spanish
@@anniecenter lol, no doubt
I think that Super Mario Sunshine is the equivalent of Super Mario Bros 2(USA) in the 3D line
Learning The Controls to The Fludd toke me about as long to figure out the Poltergust 3000 in Luigi’s Mansion
Super Mario 3d all stars, I’m mostly getting it to play sunshine
I still cry to the soundtrack of this game the tropical environments with music that fits along with some tasks that make you feel like a tourist of an actual tropical island
I'm a simple man, I see Super Mario SUNSHINE, and I yell and scream in tears of joy.
This game basically set Luigi and Mario in different places with the same bad guy, the mister tech, watch MatPat's video lol
I should also note; Song of the Deep is a good Metroidvania.
Fun Fact!
Anytime you say "blue coins", SomeCallMeJohnny gets a cold sweat.
Mario’s game gallery has full voice acting. “Ima going fishing here fishy fishy”
I still play this game daily, I love everything about this game, it’s is, for me at least, perfect
Oh my.
@@stripedrajang3571 what.
@@shardofkingdoms9816, I agree with you, that it is a great game, but I don't know if it's perfect.
Mario 2
Mario 3
Mario World
Mario Land
Mario Land 2
Mario Galaxy 1 and 2
Mario Odyssey
like the only games that take place in the Mushroom Kingdom are the "new" series at this point lol
SMB3 did take place in the mushroom kingdom.
Second video thats been recommended from you in a while. I like this trend
Thanks for the upload and high quality content boio
When are we getting DK 64 🥺
Hope you’ve a happy and safe 4th Jirard and Completionist team
Just remembered that this game literally has a place called Corona Mountain.
Idk why people get hyper about it though. Corona just means "Crown" in Spanish
SMS is just happiness, not competition, but straight happiness.
I just played through this game again this week (and finally hunted down all the blue coins to 100% it). Let’s do this!
I always came up short by 2-3 blue coins.
