- Опубліковано 13 чер 2024
- This is the first devlog in a new game development journey. I teamed up with my fiend Paul to make an indie game about... well... we don't know yet. We started into the project with a two weeks of prototyping to come to a decision about what game we should make next.

Yo! Excited to have you all back on board for this.
Hello jonas
We want flower game
I Have a Game idea. Want to hear it?
yes
@@sleepyguy6760 me?
YO! I can't wait to see what this turns into! I've been looking forward to this video since Will You Snail released :D
Thanks for the heart Jonas!
Ah exciting! Good luck with the new project!
Very nice to be included from the get-go and seeing some of the creative process! You're an inspiration on how to get over the "analysis paralysis" stage where you have too many ideas and options and can't choose one because you're afraid you're making the wrong choice.
Prototyping is the way to go. Fail faster. Happy you enjoyed it, thank you! :)
This is what "doing it properly at the start" looks like. Good process overall! I think there were many interesting ideas that you had in the beginning. I could still see that multiplayer climbing thing turn into something some time in the future. Seems like a typical grizzly game to me!
Glad to see you moved on to new exciting projects, can't wait to play your third big hit!
I really like the approach you took in choosing your project, it makes a lot of sense. Even though I'd have liked to see the co-op climbing game, I can understand your decision and am very excited to see the devlogs! Good luck to you both :)
Hearing you guys talk in another language is so cool!
I feel instant in love with the coop climbing game, hope you can build that after your next amazing game! goodluck Jonas!
One thing all of these prototypes have in common is nice lighting from the get go. I would really like to see how you set this up!
I really liked that open-world landscape made up for the coloured polygon shapes, I think if you slightly changed the colour lighter/darker randomly for each side you would get a crystalline sort of shape, which would give you a lot of potential to work with. I also think that since your last two games were 2D and top down, maybe a 3D first person game would be a fun change? Completely your choice but was a bit surprised to see it go.
Prototyping is all the fun of exploring new ideas without the pressure to force it to work. Looking forward to how this series will pan out!
That rock climbing game actually sounded really cool, but really exciting to see a new game develop!
No matter what would You chose, remember that game dev is your passion and it should stay that way. As You zaid: "an idea is less important than execution" zo choice something that is good, healthy and fun for you, and it'll be a zuper game!
I never was involved with any of the Will You Snail things but I am very excited to join you in the development of "the" game.
Made my day! The thing that makes your devlogs stand out from all the others, is that you have a much more professional approach to things
Not that it matters anymore but I did find the idea of the co-op climbing game and the flower game together to be interesting.
Climb mountains with your friend(s?) And spread flowers along the way, could even be challenges of people on the mountain who'll try to stop you planting, be able to remove flowers for a bit of that co-op chaoticness.
But! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you decided to make!
The flower game gave me the vibes of an Islanders sequel. I instantly imagined a new relaxing strategy game. Others seemed to me little generic. The card game can be interesting, but I just cant stop thinking about the flower game.
Honestly I think it would be cool if they took the flower game, the open world game and the mountain climbing game and put them all together.
Edit: why did this get so much support XD
Definitely!
Huh. Interesting thought. "Open world plant spreader golfing climbing game" would be the genre then.
@@JonasTyroller sounds like a fun game
I could definetly see a game out of this. some dystopian world and you bring nature and colors back with your flowers.
Or as multiplayer game kinda like Splatoon where you have to make the world in your color.
GOTY
I was waiting for this to happen! Can't wait to see how it evolves!
Bro we are waiting for your updates more than this guys stuff.
Based on what you turned WYS into, on your own, I'm sure this game will be just as awesome!
Now you're teaming up, it would be interesting to borrow from even more elements of other software projects, such as retrospectives, or refinement sessions, and not just prototyping.
I'm really looking forward to this series! Your content is very high quality.
Good luck!
That reveal at the end is great 🤩
Cliffhanger. Haha. Thanks for watching, Derek.
5:18 Yay we get to hear German Jonas once again 🎉
Wow already 61 days into the new c*** game project (I don't wanna spoiler this video)
Good luck jonas and team, I pray for your next game success 🔥
Keep the plant-spreader idea alive, please! I see the reasoning behind your choices and "you have to do you" to make it work, but I really found the idea of the plant-spreader game very appealing. Also: Maybe do a cloud-brainstorming-prototyping session once? I know you've had no lack of ideas though... but just looking at your video gave ME so many. (But I'm not developing any games. At least not for PC and anymore.) So many routes to take the Plantspreader game too, From "Simulation like game" to "casual but nice" (my least favorite) to puzzle-game to multiplayer ("race the evolution") ...
Concept Design is for me one of the most interesting chapters of game dev. Especially how you guys deal with it ! I love it
I am definitly all in for a "mutation" mechanic like in your flower prototype. I love simulation based games. Idk I just find them to be so fascinating xD
same
Video came out just in time for me. Good luck Jonas and thanks for the video ♥
It's Nice To Know The Level Editor In One Of My Fav Games To Date XD
I guess you really did watch "watch this before your next indie game".
It shows.
I'm excited :)
Very interesting! I'm looking forward to seeing more devlogs!
That procedural terrain editor even though it wasn’t used could create some awesome wallpapers
Sounds promising, really like your devlogs and bought islanders. :)
Exciting stuff!
Wowiee!!! Seeing the process of game making is really interesting, good luck on your development!
This climbing game looks really nice - go into it! I support you guys
I'm really excited to see what you guys are cooking up
i bought WYS a couple days ago and just beat the second boss.
i love the story telling and the personality of SQUID.
Its super hard though. skill plattformers arent my usual genre and my eye-hand coordination lacks 20 years behind ( i played a lot on the GameBoy when i was 10...). Its still super fun though.
Especially the fact that it just OOZES from PASSION, jokes and details is just mindblowing.
it doesnt surprise me that it took 4 years and getting it for 8.XX€ is an absolute steal.
Cant wait for your next project - you can count on my wishlist :)
I WANT MULTIPLAYER CLIMBING with awesome climbing courses, objectives/achievements. Imagine mixing this idea with progression structure of "Learn to Fly" kind of game
this is probably the first devlog channel i've seen that's reached the "now what?" phase
I'm leaving this comment for those who are to come ,
whenever this master piece comes out know that
I WAS HERE
I love the idea of an open world auto generated racing game! That would be so neat!
Ah, here we go again! Exited to watch this for the next 4 years lol
The flower prototype looks so fun!!
So excited to see what will become of this game
The gardening and rock climbing prototypes could've been merged into one and you'd have a really solid game based on, I dunno, a badass park ranger that has to travel through the national park taking down fires and plant new trees.
Thank you Jonas for getting me into programming, I started because of your channel a couple of years ago and although I’m not looking at game design I’m currently learning html5 css and JavaScript and hope to get into web dev, so thanks 🙏
Fantastic to see all the different prototypes you made for this! Can't wait to hear how the card game has been going.
The poster Paul has on the back of his wall « Nantes la nuit » is a poster from the French city where I am currently studying!
I'm really excited to see where you'll go with this kingdom manager card game. Mainly because I did a prototype with almost the exact same idea for one of the past Ludum Dares, down to AI-generated art. So it'll be really interesting to see how such idea can blossom into a full game.
Man, I can't wait to see what you guys will pick! Keep it up!
Love the prototype method you guys used!
Im exciting for your dev logs and the building of the idea, step by step
Ich freu mich auf deine Dev logs und das ausbauen der Gamingidee Schritt für Schritt zum fertigen Game
While some of your game cutting reasons were dubious, it is good to see you working with someone else and trying to keep the scope of the game limited. Working with someone else will make sure your imagination can't run too wild and you don't end up spending days and days working on features that only provide tiny additional value to the end users.
Glad to see you both are back together :) Cards is the best decicion. We also decided to add some deckbuilding elements in LTT.
Good luck with the new project, looking forward to follow along :)
I'm not done with my game yet, even though its been out for almost 2 years - so I'm staying on that for a few more years ;)
This all looks really cool! So yes I will subscribe 😊
I really like the plant game idea! What if there were bugs that would try to ruin your crops and you had to shoot them with seeds and grow more until the bugs eat all of the flowers?
Can't wait to see how this turns out
I would play that plant golf thing. I don't know if there's a whole game there, but it'd make a cute little fidget toy as it exists now.
My first idea: make something like Vampire Survivors, only better and in your psychedelic style. :) VS sold around 2m-5m copies on Steam and it's a ONE MAN project.
I like the look of those cards in the end!
Your thronefall demo was lots of fun and very addicting!
4:14 that just looks like it would be so fun to play.
Bro, I love card games!
Can't wait to see what you're coming up with.
I love those moments where you talk German and I am just like: "I understand it, others won't :lul:"
6:15 Ohhh #8, hiii! :D
So many ideas, so little time! The planting game could have some real potential. Have you heard of Tera Nil? Sounds like a very similar concept. Incidentally I thought Jonas' planting prototype looked nicer than Paul's! Yours was colorful, had smooth terrain and nice juice shooting the flowers. His was boxy and bland. But for sure you guys came up with some amazing prototypes. I can't believe you made that terrain generation and multiplayer prototype in a couple days. I would have spent a week just researching and watching tutorials to create anything close to that! You can tell you guys are experienced game designers now. Let's see if the whole project can stay on schedule instead of taking another 4 years 😄
Honestly I really liked that parkour game
Hey Jonas big fan! I thought of something very cool you could do. What if you transformed the ai from Will You Snail into a wallpaper that criticizes you for not having unity open or something funny like that! I can't wait for this game your working on. Happy game developing!
hype! Can't wait to see what you got
As someone who has no time or motivation to make a fully fledged game, I look forward to living vicariously through these devlogs
the man is back
I really enjoyed seeing your process
SUPER HYPE! Cant wait to see what comes next!
How many prototypes do I have??? 15 at last count! Bundle them together into one game??? Huh! Not by myself, but glad you have a team mate to help.
Dammit! Now, I cannot wait to see the next video!
Nice! I’ve been wondering what your next project would be :)
That art style of the flower game was insanely good
i absolutely loved the mountain climbing prototype but the card game seems awesome too!!
Nice, a new series to follow and grow attached to. :D
The rock climbing game sounds awesome
Hi Jonas! Your videos and prototypes rock! I wonder how do you come up with the initial ideas? Are you idea jamming, finding ideas from life and noting them by time, or something else?
We will also start a new project shortly, so I'd be grateful to hear some advice.❤
I liked climbing game idea :)
Jonas, deine Videos sind immer sehr inspirierend.
Ganz viel Liebe
I just finished will you snail this week. It was great!
Ey, awesome! Thank you. Happy you enjoyed it. :)
Can’t wait to see the next update on the card game.
i have never been this early, good luck with your new game!
Thank you! :)
the legend is still alive and I only realise that know
The flower game I thought would be interesting as a game where you strategically select mutations and spread seeds to resist environmental hazard, where you're essentially trying to create a breed of flowers that can survive surrounding animals, weather, seasons and other plants. But it seems like it would involve a lot of complicated systems and might not be the most fun? although seeing your flower cover more and more ground, until there's basically one form of it covering the whole map, would probably be quite satisfying and give a good feeling of growth. a game where essentially you're trying to create a ln invasive specie.
Wow, you guys seem really motivated and experienced. Can't wait to see what comes out of this project in the future, I'm really curious to see what you guys came up with.
Also, I'm actually an indie game composer/sound effects designer, so if you guys have an interest in getting a custom soundtrack into your project or just want to discuss what sound design/music would be like for your game I absolutely love that stuff so feel free to hit me up.
This is very inspiring… ima try this
I think the best game sounds like the open world racing game! I've always wanted to play a game like that!
Good luck, bro!)
It's gonna be epic
I'm calling it
Since the game "Timber and Stone" was abandoned years and years ago, can yall make that game next? It is basically a a top down RTS minecraft with colony managment and structure building. It also has mining. It was an absolutly fantastic idea that i think might take off if buildt in the next year or 2.
Looking forward to the coming devlogs! Any planning considering music? I'd be happy to help.
FINALLY A NEW DEVLOG LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
BUT, im not sure about the card game. there is just way too much "indie card games" right now and you will have to find something interesting to stand out.
but please make a dlc for will you snail
and not a rage game thhat will go viral
and dont try to make it in 5 days or whatever
if you do those it gets stuck in development for 4 years
ples
also snail go brrrrrr
honestly will you snail is a masterpiece
solo rock climbing game seems pretty cool
