Hello, this video goes over all the gamedev progress I made over the course of the last year. Penumbra tower has been a project that I have worked on part-time since March 2023. At the beginning of this journey, I didn't know anything about game development. The majority of the video will cover the progress I made while working on Penumbra Tower, it does also touch on the original game I was working on at the end of 2022 that i never finished.
Penumbra Tower is a frog themed turn-based dungeon crawling roguelike.

i wonder how he found that picture...
Dude I got to say, your art style is amazing!
Thank you so much 😀
"Planning, coding, art, animation-"
"-Hang on, hang on. Go back."
". . . planning."
"After that."
"Coding."
"After that."
"Animation."
"Before that, you son of a bitch! Before that!"
Great insight mate! Can't wait to see what else you get up to - keep up the great work!
The tease of a longer video at the end! Gonna love it, and I do love the game. It has such a charm to it, and the gameplay feels satisfying!
Thanks glad you liked it!
It's very inspiring to see the whole process! :) Sometimes it's better to create than to study, especially if you get stuck! So I definitely think you made the right choices! Keep up the good work!
All the best mate.
Your art is not bad. It is really attractive.
I'm telling you because I subscribed to you by seeing a thumbnail of your art.
:d
Super inspiring to see how much you’ve accomplished! Appreciate you sharing the highs and lows.
I’m about 4 months into learning game dev and have done 2 game jams and am planning a larger 3-6mo project. Excited to get wrecked by how little I know 😂 will try to learn from what you’ve shared
I haven't done any gamejams myself, but I've heard they are good experience
I wish you all the best and truly admire your talent in animating the characters and everything else.
Thanks!
Such true points.
W video
Posion: gives debuffs like less dmg less defense etc.
Bleeding: high critical chance
Fire: its fine as is
I love the frogs so much.
Wow, amazing art !
I went trough both those courses to and it took a while before i understood everything. lot of moments where i needed to go back and go trough certain parts again. man you didn't finish them and still made a game in a short period of time. not a lot of people can do that. me for example have no problem sticking to the things i wanna do but get stuck in wanting to improve and take a lot of time making the art look good.
Yeah I feel like i should go back and finish them at some point
Your art is beautiful man and the game looks so fun
You're beautiful ❤️
Game was really fun to play and it is impressive that it was made in one year!
Looking great! Best of luck with the development!
Thanks! love your videos
"Art" and that kids, is how i developed ocular melanoma!
God i love the krita fountain pen brush so so much
Really good vid 🙏🏻
Thank you 🙌
Ahh of course when a burning unit walks onto a lava tile, burning is removed! 😂 lol obviously i knew what you meant but i was making breakfast while watching and i had to double take. The game looks great and i am very jealous of your art abilities. I only can do pixel art but one day maybe i can learn vector art.
This game need Isaac rogue like mechanics, look awesome and more polish than Brotato. Saludos desde Uruguay
My eternal enemy - art
This was my intro to your channel and as a person who also wants to get into GameDev I think the coolest part is that you said how you started and how you began learning. I wanted to know more about your learning process along the way, it was cool to know you did those 2 courses in udemy, but I'd be curious what other ways you found to learn along the way, or you think those courses gave you the base that you still use nowadays? I'm doing one of them, the 2D c# course, and it looks very focused on learning unity, rather than programming for example. Is that enough to make a full game?
Cheers and thanks for the video!
never show me art again
VERY COOL GAME
Pyro fan at the beginning there
It took me about 2 years of starting more than a hundred projects and then leaving them behind at some point to be able to go through a game and sticking with it (Mostly because of the monetary incentive but hey, I need money, so why not have fun earning it)
100 is crazy, I work on it in my free time i think a monetary incentive would stress me out haha
@@GreedableWell the good thing is I'm not dependant on it in the sense that I'm gonna be homeless if I don't release it, but it'll spare me some work in this year's summer holidays.
Art 🤨
I hope you consider giving him a tongue ability since he’s a frog.

Normal people don't become developers...
The slightly insane become game developers XD
dam how does this have 190 views its so good
2:00 ...you guys take courses?
jokes aside I seriously didnt take any C# tutorial before starting GD with unity.
the sprites are great, what software did you use to make them?
Krita
0:06 Why did you put that picture into the devlog? 😬😬😬
what the name of your other webdev channel?
Link on the courses
Dude, your voice sounds like Mark Hoppus' voice
Are you using Unity UI Toolkit for the UI?
Just the regular unity canvas and UI elements. I was looking at the toolkit recently but don't know if I want to bother moving everything over
@@Greedable Ty for the reply, i did only 5% of my UI. I am moving to the UI Toolkit and wanna learn more about it. :) Keep up the good work!
Love the ideas. Check out Crown Trick. Great game.
edit: your art is juicy
this spelunky music was totally a cheap move, it gave me instant PTSD flashbacks
dont do that :D
Dude...
Stop describing my experience. It's terrifying me.
this is the type of game that has a whole nerd fan base to that calculates chances of winning by placing like chess
ahh it would be great if that happened
@greedable Thanks for commenting
you shouldn't make the bombs destroy chests, players wouldn't want to restart a level every time they accidentally destroy a chest. Maybe make it break the first time a bomb hits it, then if it gets hit a 2nd time, then that's when it finally gets destroyed ٩(。•́‿•̀。)۶
But in old and low laptop is hard
yoo brother, i need an artist could you be my work "Assistant"? jk
one of my delusions is that i will create a video game one day too
644 views is crazy low
bro i just got flashbanged with the art in the beginning
