"game dev is hard. you end up requieing a wide range of skills and end up learning a little bit of everything while sucking at all of them" this is SO TRUE DAMNIT. made my day honectly
Lmao right? I can't draw for shit! Or it's a person that goes " I have zero experience in game Dev but I've been a web developer and know C# so I'm pretty much going in knowing nothing" bruh I'm sitting here trying to learn with ACTUAL zero knowledge of anything 😂
It's very inspiring to see the whole process! :) Sometimes it's better to create than to study, especially if you get stuck! So I definitely think you made the right choices! Keep up the good work!
Super inspiring to see how much you’ve accomplished! Appreciate you sharing the highs and lows. I’m about 4 months into learning game dev and have done 2 game jams and am planning a larger 3-6mo project. Excited to get wrecked by how little I know 😂 will try to learn from what you’ve shared
I went trough both those courses to and it took a while before i understood everything. lot of moments where i needed to go back and go trough certain parts again. man you didn't finish them and still made a game in a short period of time. not a lot of people can do that. me for example have no problem sticking to the things i wanna do but get stuck in wanting to improve and take a lot of time making the art look good.
I also have no experience in game dev but I'm starting off with a bullet hell game myself. Nice to see I was in the same boat as you. Gives me more confidence after watching this video.
Idea for not scrapping poison and bleeding entirely: Bleeding: Does Damage/Time but can be stacked to higher levels by hitting bleeds more often. Poison: Poison tiles that damage enemies when stepped on rather than enemies themselves. Just a thought!
love the art style. was this in the most recent NextFest? I didnt see it but am interested in trying out the demo. I didn't see the option on steam though. Good luck on future development and I hope you have a successful launch! I am currently in the early phase of going down the same path you described at the beginning of the video. I have an idea of my dream project but am currently halfway through a unity course.
This was my intro to your channel and as a person who also wants to get into GameDev I think the coolest part is that you said how you started and how you began learning. I wanted to know more about your learning process along the way, it was cool to know you did those 2 courses in udemy, but I'd be curious what other ways you found to learn along the way, or you think those courses gave you the base that you still use nowadays? I'm doing one of them, the 2D c# course, and it looks very focused on learning unity, rather than programming for example. Is that enough to make a full game? Cheers and thanks for the video!
Ahh of course when a burning unit walks onto a lava tile, burning is removed! 😂 lol obviously i knew what you meant but i was making breakfast while watching and i had to double take. The game looks great and i am very jealous of your art abilities. I only can do pixel art but one day maybe i can learn vector art.

Super interesting. Quick question : When you said that it easy to do pixel art but it is hard to to something great with it, do you already have drawing skill ? Because for me, it seems way harder to draw than to do pixel art since i'm not very good with pencil.
I do have a little bit of drawing experience but I'm not sure it carries over with this since Ive been using a mouse to create the sprites in krita. It's probably more just personal preference in terms of what you find easier
I think the answer is actually pretty simple. It is a lot harder to find a good artist as a pure programming game dev than it is to learn to program a game as someone with art skills. Also, people are more likely to share video footage of something they think looks good aesthetically than their primitive-looking programmer art.
It took me about 2 years of starting more than a hundred projects and then leaving them behind at some point to be able to go through a game and sticking with it (Mostly because of the monetary incentive but hey, I need money, so why not have fun earning it)
@@GreedableWell the good thing is I'm not dependant on it in the sense that I'm gonna be homeless if I don't release it, but it'll spare me some work in this year's summer holidays.
I'm getting in coding, so I wanted to know, how do you have learn, only with Udemy ? Even after watching a tuto on how to create a game on youtube or udemy, if I want to go create my game I still have no idea how to do. So how do you have start really know what you are doing ? And did you had the same problem that each time you want to do something, you needed to go on UA-cam or Udemy to watch how it's done? Finaly it's the first video i saw from you and I like it ! I don't use the same engine but I'm probably going to watch more video from you !
You could make difrent enemies have difrent inteligence level Some are dumb like big brute who will always take the shortest path to you no matter how many lata blocks will he have on the way The one with chance And one that always will dodge Flying enemies could be immube to them As for enemies Could have A suporting enemy that euthers -buffs attack -makes other guy immune -heals A single enemy Charger Enemy that attacks in straight line Like rook in chess Frog themed enemies 1) bugs for weaker ones that frogs eat -flies -crickets -Butterflies Large spiders like tarantula are can kill a frog so more like mini boss Fish -pikes agresive speedy fish -catfish large whiskey fish that cmsome times has poison , and ones that shock you with electricity THATS another thing You have water tiles maybe bave enemy that can use electricity making all water tiles next to eachother deal damage Birds -storks are in Poland most recognised for huntning frogs Mushrooms -amphibians becouse of thier Cold body and slime are more like than mamals to by infected by types of fungus There are some really cool mushroms desgins to use
I would've gotten bored and quit too when it comes to code. But yeah. Gonna continue to watch, its only been 2 minutes 29 seconds in, but I feel the "uuugh". Thats why I picked Unreal Engine instead.
you shouldn't make the bombs destroy chests, players wouldn't want to restart a level every time they accidentally destroy a chest. Maybe make it break the first time a bomb hits it, then if it gets hit a 2nd time, then that's when it finally gets destroyed ٩(。•́‿•̀。)۶
Dude I got to say, your art style is amazing!
Thank you so much 😀
Looking great! Best of luck with the development!
Thanks! love your videos

The tease of a longer video at the end! Gonna love it, and I do love the game. It has such a charm to it, and the gameplay feels satisfying!
Thanks glad you liked it!
why every devlog of someone learning gamedev has a guy who's really good in art
That's what I'm saying my sprites are straight ass

Your art is not bad. It is really attractive.
I'm telling you because I subscribed to you by seeing a thumbnail of your art.

Great insight mate! Can't wait to see what else you get up to - keep up the great work!
I love the frogs so much.
Really enjoyed watching this. I'm making a small game too and documenting it with devlog shorts. That's inspirational.
I wish you all the best and truly admire your talent in animating the characters and everything else.
Thanks!
Your art is beautiful man and the game looks so fun
You're beautiful ❤️

Game was really fun to play and it is impressive that it was made in one year!
Such true points.
W video
I used that learning thing too!!!!!!!!! In that same course. And I 100% agree the difficulty spikes around that point.
Fantastic to see how much you achieved in a year!
bro i just got flashbanged with the art in the beginning

God i love the krita fountain pen brush so so much
Art. I sated my curiosity, but.. I'm doubtful that's the correct word anymore. That said, enjoying the rest of the video.

First game and already mastered the C#? Damn you are a God.
Wow, amazing art !
You got this far in 1 year?! Super inspiring
Very cool! But i have one question... what font you use in 7:17 ?
I like to make bleed stacking, poison a certain percentage of max health, and burning to gradually deal less damage until it burns out.
Really good vid 🙏🏻
Thank you 🙌
2:29 Spelunky music
my thirst has been satisfied
great video! I love it :D
Posion: gives debuffs like less dmg less defense etc.
Bleeding: high critical chance
Fire: its fine as is

Why is the art and UI better than many released games, even successful ones !?
Probably because that's your preference. It's not better. You just think it is.
Not saying it's bad. Because it's not

Why is every game dev on UA-cam good at art? I can barely draw a circle.

1:26 this might've been the first time I've heard Krita pronounced as cry-ta; fitting 🤣
How do you animate your art? Do you just create static images of char and put those in game engine? Im sorry im new
dam how does this have 190 views its so good

Normal people don't become developers...
The slightly insane become game developers XD
what did you use to create your characters an other art? I thought your characters were really dope fr
he mentioned krita the free art tool
You could make difrent enemies have difrent inteligence level
Some are dumb like big brute who will always take the shortest path to you no matter how many lata blocks will he have on the way
The one with chance
And one that always will dodge
Flying enemies could be immube to them
As for enemies
Could have
A suporting enemy that euthers
-buffs attack
-makes other guy immune
-heals
A single enemy
Charger
Enemy that attacks in straight line
Like rook in chess
Frog themed enemies
1) bugs for weaker ones that frogs eat
-flies
-crickets
-Butterflies
Large spiders like tarantula are can kill a frog so more like mini boss
Fish
-pikes agresive speedy fish
-catfish large whiskey fish that cmsome times has poison , and ones that shock you with electricity
THATS another thing
You have water tiles maybe bave enemy that can use electricity making all water tiles next to eachother deal damage
Birds
-storks are in Poland most recognised for huntning frogs
Mushrooms
-amphibians becouse of thier Cold body and slime are more like than mamals to by infected by types of fungus
There are some really cool mushroms desgins to use
1:40 - Reason: Frog
VERY COOL GAME

Are you using Unity UI Toolkit for the UI?
Just the regular unity canvas and UI elements. I was looking at the toolkit recently but don't know if I want to bother moving everything over
@@Greedable Ty for the reply, i did only 5% of my UI. I am moving to the UI Toolkit and wanna learn more about it. :) Keep up the good work!

can you help me to work with you as a collaborator,
