Actually Aldrich has not transformed into a giant worm. If you paid attention the room's floor you are fighting on with Gwyndolin's body is covered by black goo. I think thats what Aldrich himself is while Gwyndolin's body is just an extension.
Gwyndolyns corpse was a puppet, while Aldritch whose body was a gaping human, transforming into the sludge we see that controls the yet to be fully consumed Gwyndolyn
+Original Heartless (Mini Talisman) there is absolutely no indication that gwyndolin isnt full consumed yet bro. the item descriptions all stated that gwyndolin was completly devoured. no indication of him being only half-devoured or something.
+The Humble Geometric Figure If Aldrich were not only the worm but the floor as well, why does the sludge persist after he dies and his cinders and soul are taken? Why do only the worm and Gwyndolin's body disappear? Though to say that Gwyndolin's body is not Aldrich is misleading. It is as much Aldrich as all the other corpses that his inhuman form is composed of. Gwyndolin's body, likely due to it's godly nature, has simply kept its form better. The aggregate nature of Aldrich, as well as his appearence where Gwyndolin's corpse meets the rest of him, some musical cues in the fight, and the shape of the magic on his staff seem to indicate he's a reincarnation of Nito's Lord Soul.
@@Quasar1337 he wasnt devoured yet. Aldrich was still going through his meal. When we traverse through the fog. We interrupt his meal. Gwyndolin is still alive.

Just wanted to say that devs disproved Gwyndolin being alive during boss fight. As dead as dead could be~ Aldrich either partly took his form, or assumed control over upper part of the dead body. Still gross though.
Let me know what you guys thought of my Aldrich Lore video! As good as the last one? Better? Am I still talking too monotone/dry/slow/etc? Let me know here in the comments! Im pretty sure it has to with the depths from ds1. If you watch hacksaws video on Havel he states that many rebels who plotted against the gods were locked there. So after some time they started eating each other but since they were undead they lived as fecees or slimes wchich litter the grand cathedral before Aldrich. Also aldrich combines the ideas of man eating and god defying as god eating so that’s the point I have.
I love dark souls man , the thought that they put into the lore is nothing but beautiful. It comes with a heavy heart knowing that this is the last game in the series. Thank you for the video !
There is a mistranslation in pontiffs lore he didn’t actually want to give him Gwyndolin as he used Gwyndolin to remain in power over the way of white. This would also explain why Sulyvahn has his dogs kill Aldrich’s deacon after being forced to give him Gwyndolin
your content is very thorough. your lore is spot on and the way you do story telling is top notch. you have definitely earned my subscription with how much you seem to care about explaining the story, while giving basis for your thought processes.
"the unkindled's targeter locks onto the dark goop, rather than the body of gwyndolin..." ...No, in fact in the video, the targeter is very clearly situated on 'Gwyndolin's' midsection, or at least the point at which the goop meets it. Not to mention the item description says Gwyndolin "WAS gradually DevourED." Past tense. It'd make a cool detail if we were fighting Gwyndolin while he was being eaten, but it just doesn't add up. :/
Aldrich consumed humans, and humans were created from the Dark Soul by the Furitive Pygmy who became Manus and created the Abyss. Maybe this explains Aldrich's corruption and why it resembles the Abyss.
I like it, but one thing about the Pus of Man, the hollows that has the black snake like mass coming out of them, has their description calling them an abyss-corrupted monstrosities. The Deep and the Abyss could actually be the one and the same, with the Deep being one form of the Abyss. Yet we will never know as we know next to nothing about the Deep except of what we know through item descriptions that links itself to the Deep, then again we really don't know all that much about the Abyss either other than what is mentioned about it. Other than that, good video.
Your lore vids are pretty comprehensive considering how long the game has been out, its clear you put a lot of time into them. Great job digging all of this up. I also enjoy how you fill in the blanks left by the game with the most probable answers. Great work man :)
Very good video and so informative. I think there was hierarchy though in terms of certain characters leading to Aldrich - I think the order (ascending) was from Archdeacon, High Lord Wolnir and then Pontiff Sulyvahn (boss of the two) all worshipped and fed Aldrich.
Does anyone else feel like Captain Yorshka being imprisoned by the Ponitff as the next meal for Aldrich? Why else just keep her around waiting. This would support the digestion of Gwyndolin which by Yorshka's own words is her brother?
this boss is really distrubing and the story behind him is sad, and it kinda makes it more sad because you dont see any of it, but only hear about it, like eating people alive and enjoying it, or attacking children, or how he slowly ate gwyndolyn who was kept prisoner to be eaten alive, dont know if there's any other boss that actually has such a nasty backstory, the fact you see half of gwyndolyn's lifeless body just sticking out of him the whole time
i think the "deep" concept sprouts from the flooding of New Londo at the hands of dark sorcery and magic, regarding the city as deep under water, and similar magic used to flood the city is wielded by the likes of aldrich and the deacons (aldrich obtained greater magic capability when consuming the dark sun, Gwyndolin)
Item description says that Gywndolin WAS devoured, as in already happen and past tense. It's impossible for him to currently be eaten as the fight continues.
great work! since you ask what can be done better. no much really since you are so good. A personal reference I will like to hear the lore in a tone of conversation like you are telling a close friend a long lost story. right now sounds like you are reading the newspaper in a classroom.

I made sure Sulyvahn and Aldrich paid dearly for eating Gwyndolin. This was nice video and since the people I usually go for lore (Vatti, DaveControl, Terra Mantis, and Silver Mont) don't have any videos out yet, this gave a chance to see this and I'm glad I did. I will be looking out for your other DS3 lore videos, good work!
That part when you said that the human form that appears isn't Aldrich himself but Gwyndolin (zombie like), just blew my mid *o* Awesome lore videos man you are being a pioneer in DS3 lore videos (good and complete ones), so good work. As far as the narration you still have to work on that, I like Vaati but DaveControl is better at providing information and he is more lifefull when narrating, Vaati on the other hand is better at story build up and storytelling. So just some advices, when a character in the game is talking add subtitles cause sometimes you can't figure out some words they are saying, as far as the narration avoid the bored voice tone in the first seconds of the video. Good job and cheers man :)

+MadLuigi Hey man, I saw your recent videos after I saw this one and yes you are improving a lot. Nice to see that everything is working out for you :), keep it up
4:24. I don't think this destroys your theories or anything. I think this was a good video and makes alot of sense. But i just wanted to say, to be a "saint" is to be "sanctified". To be sanctified is to be "set apart", which is to be saved. So anyone that is saved is a saint. The word saint meaning someone who is important is a big misconception, due mostly to certain religions misusing the word saint.
Finnaly more lore :D I just finished the game and just walked around Firelink for like 20 minutes in shock that this is the last dark souls..... The slow realisation that it really is over broke me apart inside :C Without another souls game.... I might just go hollow Same as last time this is top quality and im happy your pursuing this series thank you so much
Great vid again! I really appreciate the item references and the subtle change in your tone definitely made a difference (sounds like you are just being yourself). Aldrich is the most enigmatic lord of cinder, kinda reminds me of the windigo from Native American folklore, but the skull you place on his throne does look humanoid.... Very curious to hear more speculation
I like the idea of top-hat Gwyndolin but he might be just Aldrich's manifestation of latest victim. Also artisticaly we needed to fight something other than just a giant magical slug... So yeah the idea of Gwyndolin still being alive sounds nice but Aldrich has already consumed his body and essence to take all his power.
Hey man, i found your channel from looking at Elden lore but I think I watched all those so I started looking at your DS3 videos (my personal favorite DS game) and these are great. I liked the pillars of Lothric one
Thanks so much! These were def poorer quality, but they were the start of my lore journey and helped me get better at vids. Glad you liked the most niche one, was fun to look at a more specific aspect
+yyflame He still could've done so, this vid like most DS lore vids is just puzzling item descriptions together to make something that makes sense the miracle said he dreamed of her the fact it said dream doesn't out the fact that he still could've done it nothing says he didn't do it plus I wouldn't expect a saint to be incredibly strong so he may have not been able to wield her scythe so he absorbed it and fashioned his own.
Wraith Stalker He literally was imprisoned right after he ate gwndolin. It states in the lore that he went from his grave, straight to Anor Londo. He had no time to hunt down any other gods. He ate Gwyndolin, then was used to forcefully link the flame. He then sat, in his prison until we come along and cut off his head.
wooooow. i recently watched ENB's video of defeating aldrich and it never crossed my mind that he didn't just look like gwyndolin, that WAS gwyndolin. just woooow. i thought it was like a Kirby effect, where he looks like his most recent meal..... mind disturbingly blown
+madluigi Good job man, and good speculation on Priscilla's scythe. I feel it makes more sense than saying he ate her. It's like in Bloodborne how the saints of the Research Hall imbibe water to hear the Great Ones. Saint Adeline was able to translate the Milkweed rune this way, same way Aldritch could have translated this miracle. The only thing left would be, why would eating Gwyndolin give him thoughts of Priscilla? What is their connection? Overall great video :)
The gods did trap her in the painted world in DS1 but a character who looks like her in DS3 (Darkmoon covenant leader) is trapped in a tower and her being the covenant leader should be a connection I believe its a parallel universe where there are many hustorical changes
xamphor Considering this is his first lore video, I think it should be given benefit of the doubt. He got his point across IMO. He'll improve. Just gotta practice patience...
My thoughts exactly. Reminded me of those boring ass documentarys they'd make us watch in school growing up. I think he's just trying to copy VaatiVidya here and is unsuccessful, ending up sounding bored out of his mind.
So Aldrich became a Lord of cinder so his own survival and not to save the world? And did all the lords of cinder become lords at the same time or where they thousands of years apart? Great vid btw
+Swaggis Broatheon I been thinking. Linking the fire doesn't have to be done when the flame fade isn't ? that would explain why those lords are able to linking the fire more than one time because they used less "fuel" than Gwyn or the chosen undead. Personally i don't think it's take thousands years for each lords, maybe a several hundreds. until the time that Lothic refused to like the fire. OR he did link the fire but after that they aren't worthy show up.
+Swaggis Broatheon Aldrich was strong enough to survive linking the Fire, but he also needed more time to become strong to survive the Age of Darkness or the Deep, if you will. That's my theory on his motivations. Either that, or he was forced to link the fire.
+PolarPhantom I think Aldrich became extremely powerful in his time and was forced to link the fire in his time he died as a result of linking it and was resurrected during dark souls 3
PolarPhantom Aldrich was forced to link the fire, from Hawkwood "Let's take Aldrich, for one. A right and proper cleric, only, he developed a habit of devouring men. He ate so many that he bloated like a drowned pig, then softened into sludge, so they stuck him in the Cathedral of the Deep. And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might."
I definitely think Smough is Aldrich we find Smough's armour is DS3 in a chest in Irythill. Smough was known to eat his victims, Smough stayed behind in Anor Londo after DS1, Smough resented the Gods for not making him a Knight, Popes usually change their name upon becoming Pope so Smough becomes Aldrich. Smough also would know where Priscilla, Nito and Gwyndolin were
I believe that Gwyndolin is still very much alive and is in fact the only reason you can fight Aldrich. If you notice during the battle against Aldrich you are actually standing on him. Since the sludge that makes up Aldrich fills the room. At this point what is stopping Aldrich from just consuming you whole if he's capable of devouring Gods. This is why I believe Gwyndolin is still very much alive. Even though Aldrich is controlling him and making him attack the player I believe Gwyndolin is also keeping Aldrich from just consuming the player whole.
Another amazing video. I am glad that you came to the conclusion that he only ate Gwyndolin since a good amount of people think he ate Priscilla and Nito as well. Also, a bit of trivia, Aldrich's name in Japanese is Eldritch. This could be a reference to Bloodborne. Also what is you next lore video going to be on?
+Gerald Milton Thanks! And yea, I've seen people saying that too, but I wasn't convinced. I'm thinking my next one will be on the Pontiff because he has so many connections, but I'm not 100% sure yet.
MadLuigi Would really like to know more about that bastard. From what I understood from playing the game is that he look over the Boreal valley from Gywndolin and forced a female descendant of Gywn to became his "Dancer".
Yea, and he sent his outrider knights, Dancer and Vordt, to stop the player from progressing (out to the Undead Settlement, and again to Lothric Castle)
What's difficult with Aldrich is the lack of much info on him or the church itself. it seems that before he became the sainty as you said he was an ordinary cleric, but he must've done something to impress sulyvhan hence he was given the silver doll yet when he is the saint he seems to come and go to the valley as he pleases as he has left the doll behind. I have someideas about Aldrich and the church. so hit me up if you want to discuss Aldrich as it seems he is tied to the catherdral very closely as well as sulyvhan.
+David Sephton Yeah the connections with Pontiff are big. I think I'm doing to be doing my next video on him because he connects to Aldrich, the Cathedral, Yhorm, the Profaned Capitol and a lot more.
Could Aldrich be the destructive force mentioned in the Ring of the Evil Eye description in DS1? That would explain Anri escaping him, and the fact that Anri gives you the ring of the evil eye (if I remember correctly.)
MadLuigi Great news! will be looking forward to see that one. Prince Lothirc is just a puzzle, yet he reminds me of quite a few other characters in DS(like Gwyndolin), and the relationship between him and his brother looked quite a bit...complicated... lol
To me it seemed more like pontiff was really pulling the strings and using Aldrich to get what he wants and pontiff means pope, and only popes can appoint sainthood. Look at all the other people he corrupted with his rings. Who's to say he didn't do something similar with aldrich
I feel like the deep is the final version of the abyss, if the abyss births humanity and the dark, then the deep is the final resting place of the dark. Its full of all of the decayed/discarded aspects of darkness. Both the deep and the abyss had an attempt to be sealed, and both fail. I think that the age of the deep sea was a divergent age from the cycle of fire and dark. In ds2, we know the curse can never be broken, and in ds3, even when we choose a world of dark, small embers would return and the fire would reignite when it wanted. I believe the deep sea is what Aldrich would achieve if he got strong enough through eating gods, as through his visions he gains their power. If he gained the power to shatter the worldly cycle, he would usher in a true age of man, the deep sea.
About why would he be called 'saint', a lot of saints were made so also because they were martyrs, could it be that Aldrich became a saint post-mortem cause he sacrificed (was made to) himself to link the fire and save the collapsing church/era of fire etc? Like the survivors saying "well Aldrich you were a terrible person and a mass murder so we made you sacrifice yourself, we'll make you a martyr and then a saint as an apology bye"
This is a longshot but what if this new age of the deep Aldrich has seen is just a connection to bloodborne? This "deep" we read on items seems to be completely different from the abyss Of Artorias and Manus but, looking at Lovecraft and his Cthulu mythos, the "deep" is the place where Cthulu and other evil beings come from. And since bloodborne is clearly a huge tribute to Lovecraft everything, at least in my mind, comes together. Sorry for my poor english, hope it was somewhat clear to understand. I'd like to know what you think :)

+Trainer-Mana I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought that.
Never thought of that. Though that would make sense, considering that Bloodborne literally take place (at least partially) within a dream.
The candle stands in the Cathedral of the Deep resemble the Deep Sea rune in Bloodborne so you're not wrong
All of the descriptions refer to Gwyndolin as "devoured" in the past tense. So it looks like Gwyndolin is already dead.

To be sanctified is to be "set apart", which is to be saved. So anyone that is saved is a saint. The word saint meaning someone who is important is a big misconception, due mostly to certain religions misusing the word saint.
it seems to me that aldrich wasn't completely bad as he seems to be trying to gain power to fight the deep when it finally arrives
awesome vid, man. really nice editing
great video, very informative. subbed.
+sammyflinders Glad to hear!
great video. loved it
+Xavier Virsu Glad to hear!
second best lore youtuber i've seen
Awesome video. Can't wait for more.
+Honako Green Happy to hear!
fantastic video. you have a lot of potential. keep up the great work.
So, we just basically fought cockvore the boss?
+Monanniverse More like "Try tongue, but hole" the boss.
Damn it! I just googled what that was at work.
you sound like a mix between the motel 6 guy and the teacher from ferris beuler haha. awesome vid though man!! love dark souls lore
+ian white Glad you enjoyed!
Another nice lore video dude. Nice one.
+Aramyenoor I appreciate it!
Very informative video, keep up the great work :D
+RedEyed XaXa Thanks! I plan to
Subscribed. Great Job!
Finnaly more lore :D
I just finished the game and just walked around Firelink for like 20 minutes in shock that this is the last dark souls.....
The slow realisation that it really is over broke me apart inside :C
Without another souls game.... I might just go hollow
Same as last time this is top quality and im happy your pursuing this series thank you so much
+logan kappert I'm really glad you're enjoying it so much!
Another great video man!
+Darren Walsh Thanks!
+Greg Burrow I'm glad you enjoyed! And it's awesome that my attempted changes did actually show through.
again great stuff ! finally another lore video :) im starving for those :)
+RaLLenheimer That's good cause Im going to continue to post em!
Very nice video!
+King Snake Thanks!
Great video. :DD
+Shealio1 Thanks!
Well this video got my sub, keep it up man.
Very cool,subscribed.
+TehRpz Awesome!
Oh thank god, when I saw the life hunt miracle I was freaking out thinking he had killed her
+yyflame He still could've done so, this vid like most DS lore vids is just puzzling item descriptions together to make something that makes sense the miracle said he dreamed of her the fact it said dream doesn't out the fact that he still could've done it nothing says he didn't do it plus I wouldn't expect a saint to be incredibly strong so he may have not been able to wield her scythe so he absorbed it and fashioned his own.
+Wraith Stalker There's literally no way he could have eaten her.
+Wraith Stalker Right after he finished eating gwyndolin, he was locked away to link the flame. He had no time to hunt down anyone else
+Glassman823 I'd imagine he was capable of dissolving creatures plus he captured gwyndolin after he left his coffin.
Dude, this is awesome! Impressive, considering how long the game has been out.
+Heinrich Petsch Thanks, I appreciate it
You, DaveControl, and ENB are my favourite UA-camrs (:
Dude love your videos! Subscribed! I like listening to these videos while i make dark souls fan art.
+Mitchell Brodeur Really happy to hear it!
wooooow. i recently watched ENB's video of defeating aldrich and it never crossed my mind that he didn't just look like gwyndolin, that WAS gwyndolin. just woooow. i thought it was like a Kirby effect, where he looks like his most recent meal..... mind disturbingly blown
The gods did trap her in the painted world in DS1 but a character who looks like her in DS3 (Darkmoon covenant leader) is trapped in a tower and her being the covenant leader should be a connection I believe its a parallel universe where there are many hustorical changes
this guy has that generic "show and boring geography documentary" voice xD
+Stephen Fabiano "If it ain't broke don't fix it"
+CyberMan14 comes off as disinterested
xamphor Considering this is his first lore video, I think it should be given benefit of the doubt. He got his point across IMO. He'll improve. Just gotta practice patience...
CyberMan14
didn't say he should quit, just said what was off about that tone.
Great vid btw
apart it seems
PolarPhantom Aldrich was forced to link the fire, from Hawkwood
"Let's take Aldrich, for one.
A right and proper cleric, only, he developed a habit of devouring men.
He ate so many that he bloated like a drowned pig, then softened into sludge,
so they stuck him in the Cathedral of the Deep.
And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might."
wow you really did a great job , amazing lore
+SuperFabiotv I appreciate the kind words.
+MadLuigi you know i never thought about aldrich being the dark blob and not the person o.0
It flew over my head during my first run-through!
Good video man, earnt yourself a new sub :D
Never noticed, but his coffin looks like a crib.
Smough also would know where Priscilla, Nito and Gwyndolin were
"Bueller? Bueller?"
Who knew Ben Stein was a DkS fan?
Aldrich never linked the flame. He was a Lord of Cinder out of pure might. He was god-like
I believe that Gwyndolin is still very much alive and is in fact the only reason you can fight Aldrich.
Yea, and he sent his outrider knights, Dancer and Vordt, to stop the player from progressing (out to the Undead Settlement, and again to Lothric Castle)
the word Eldritch is used in a variety of other lore to refer to some form of mysticism/magic
Great Video
Could Aldrich be the destructive force mentioned in the Ring of the Evil Eye description in DS1? That would explain Anri escaping him, and the fact that Anri gives you the ring of the evil eye (if I remember correctly.)
It would be cool but neither Aldrich or Anri would have been alive during ds1.
Please do Prince Lothrian and Lothric! Really wanna know more about these 2
+KiianaLuu I will sometime soon!
MadLuigi Great news! will be looking forward to see that one. Prince Lothirc is just a puzzle, yet he reminds me of quite a few other characters in DS(like Gwyndolin), and the relationship between him and his brother looked quite a bit...complicated... lol
+Noriaki Kakyoin ???
mindblown... thanks!
Great Video! Subscribed
+Marius Neuhalfen Thanks, and glad to hear!
+MadLuigi I'm glad that some1 tackles the parts of the lore I'm interested in.
Some think that he devoured Nito as well since the gravelord sword is in his like lance or staff
awesome vid! new sub
Can you do a video on the Nameless King? Great vid btw
+Nile Bolden Thanks! And I plan to do a lot of the lore for Dark Souls 3, so I should be doing a Nameless King one too!
I think if you incorporated more music it would benefit your video. Great work man!
+Clay S. I'll try to moreso. Thanks!
If he gained the power to shatter the worldly cycle, he would usher in a true age of man, the deep sea.
you ever notice that the spear is sometimes the Gravelord sword as well?
its Not a Speer. it acutally is gwyndolins Staff or Wand.
I don't understand, why doesnt Gwyndolin just cut the worm off and leave? It would've been cool to watch him try and struggle to cut it off
Gwyndolin is not alive Aldrich is using his body has a puppet
The LifeHunt Scythe description implies he's done eating Gwyndolin I sincerely doubt he's being eaten
+Galaxia Knight You're correct its stated with item descriptions that Gwydolin has already been devoured.
Very good video! Will you be doing a video on Pontiff Sullyvahn anytime soon?
+ImaGuest I might be doing a Pontiff video next. Either that, another Lord of Cinder, or Dark Firelink. Not too sure yet!
MadLuigi Alright. Either way, I'm excited for your next lore video. I'm just most interested in Sulyvahn right now
I'm glad! And I'm definitely excited too. He comes up at least a little bit in so many different aspects of the lore.
That's what came to my mind as soon as I saw "visions of a deep sea" , but maybe it's just a nod to Bloodborne.
Erm, I may be missing something, but what if the 'Age of the Deep' is what comes after the Age of Dark, or some farther in the future age?
