    I have a 2019 LT AWD with the 1.5L and have just under 3000 miles on the car. Since the day I bought it I've kept track of all the fuel I've put into it and have averaged 35.5mpg, with most of that NOT on the highway. This past weekend we went on a road trip and with the cruise set on 60mph, we got 38.1. I couldn't be happier. My previous vehicle was a 2011 Equinox, which I bought new, and we're liking this new one even more.

      The Facelift happened for the 2015 model year. This is a completely new vehicle. Chevy definitely made sure it still looks like an Equinox, but the 2018 model looks very nice, modern body styling, and updated interior finishes and technology! I think it looks great - look forward to seeing it at dealerships next year!

    I'm sure the diesel will come with a premium price tag, and higher level of trim, and they won't make that many of them. They'll sell a few, but it won't be a success in the US, and they will eventually drop the engine citing lack of sales. Isn't that the way it always goes with US company diesel offerings?

    • @adogg619
      @adogg619 8 років тому

      I agree. GM doesn't get the hint the vast majority of Americans are not interested in diesels. They could be doing so much better in sales if they put development into hybrids for every model instead.

    • @adogg619
      @adogg619 8 років тому +1

      Even if they did market it correctly and priced it competitively, there wouldn't be big demand. Americans love gasoline. Diesel fans always make it seem that everybody else really wants oil burners, when in reality that's just not the case.

    • @emilyd230
      @emilyd230 7 років тому +1

      i actually deeply disagree. coming from an actual sales persons standpoint, more people are interested in diesel options than you would think. they build them to the market, and generally if youre paying for the diesel you want everything in a nice trim anyways. but with the way GM is setting up their different trim levels, its easier to get more in a mid level trim package. all customers are always welcome to custom order their vehicles too. also sales arent slow its a hell of a time to be working for chevy right now.

    • @joshdoesathing
      @joshdoesathing 8 років тому +5

      GM has been using EcoTec longer than Ford has been using EcoBoost, and small displacement turbocharged engines are European in origin, Ford did not start that trend, they simply "jumped on the bandwagon", to use your own diction.

    • @MDKN22

    I like the new Chevy Equinox, there are still a few design elements from the older version of the Equinox that are still used in the new design but that was probably because those design cues worked so well in the older version that GM decided to evolve those details into the new Equinox. Overall, I like the new design of the SUV which I call a "Toyota-styled mainstream design" look--not polarizing, not boring, just right. I also like the interior as it now looks much more grownup and doesn't have that cheap econobox look that the old Equinox interior had. For the past several years, the Equinox and its twin counterpart the GMC Terrain have been GM''s bread-and-butter SUVs having sold hundreds of thousands of these vehicles to the mainstream American market and I believe that these new changes will enable the Equinox to become largely competitive again. I especially like the new engine options available for the Chevy. Its interesting see that many automakers are turning away from naturally-aspirated gasoline engines and turning to turbocharged gasoline engines instead which is great idea because when engineered correctly and equipped with the right transmission, a turbocharged engine can get terrific fuel economy with no sacrifice on power (aka. Chevy Cruze 1.5 liter turbo). I am also really interested to see how Chevrolet's new 1.6 liter turbodiesel engine will perform and based on the performance specs I am impressed and this engine might be what will give the Equinox and upswing in the competitive SUV market because from what I read from the specs the new turbodiesel will be able to get 40 mpg on the highway, 40 MPG ON THE HIGHWAY, you know normally we read how compact sedans can get that number but a compact SUV? If the Equinox can get that number on the highway in real-life it could possibly launch the Equinox to the top of the segment. Now of course we have to remember that diesel engines of any kind, while popular in Europe, have never caught on the gasoline-engine loving America and with the diesel scandal that erupted in Volkswagen, many people's confidence in diesel engines have decreased and we also need to remember that diesel fuel is expensive, more so than gasoline. However, things could be different on for the Equinox, especially if they put emphasis on the fact that the Equinox can get 40 mpg with the engine. Plus, offering diesel could give Chevrolet a chance to sway disgruntled Volkswagen owners to buy a possibly more reliable Chevy diesel equipped SUV instead. Also, with a nine-speed automatic, it will be the first mainstream compact SUV to be equipped with such a transmission, which used to be only available in luxury crossovers. Overall, nice job Chevy and I believe this will be a hit.

    In March '11 I bought a brand new 2011 1LT- and loved it for almost 5 years. However. when I hit 60,000 miles on the dot, the transmission collapsed on me one day while going down the highway, ultimately resulting in full loss of power, and requiring the vehicle to get towed. Thank God I was by myself and didn't have the kids in the vehicle. The chevy dealer had to fully rebuild the transmission to make it work again. The second it was repaired, I got rid of it and bought a Toyota Highlander. Never buying a GM product again. They are not built to last.

    • @dylannorthrup5439
      @dylannorthrup5439 7 років тому +3

      It's mainly shorter because of the new wheelbase, and the smaller engines mean it doesn't need all that space under the hood of the current model. I am 6'5", so I totally agree with you, but this new 2018 Equinox probably fits me better than the previous generation. It feels more like a cockpit, everything is designed around you as the driver, and there seems to be less wasted space in the cabin. It's comfortable, check it out for yourself when it launches! Rear seats still fit full sized adults surprisingly well! (I can fit behind myself comfortably... and not many vehicles this size can say the same).

    In a typical GM fashion they half-assing it all the way. That diesel is way too small for that car and to add insult to injury that 6 speed will be less than adequate. As someone pointed out below they conveniently committing RPM figures. And I bet they will only offer diesel in high end trim. And what's with all the chrome?

  • @R777-RLM
    @R777-RLM 8 років тому +1

    I'm saddened by the loss of ANOTHER normally aspirated V6 engine. Even with a weight loss of 400 lb's, an AWD equinox is still a lot of weight for a 1.5L turbo engine, as well as the lack of refinement, simplicity and proven longevity of a NA V6. The Diesel engine, a tiny 1.6 liters, requiring DEF, increased maintenance costs, as well as the premium cost of the engine, makes it's worth questionable. The 2.0L turbo will most likely only be available in sporty trim, with Giant wheels, and rubber band tires. To top it off, the gas engine are Direct Injection with their carbon build up issues.

  • @cookieboy09

    Since they made it smaller to more comfortably fit into the marketing space, I would of liked to see a hybrid option and possibly a CVT. Sure, there is the diesel, but diesel is even more expensive and you don't really get anymore efficiency compared to gasoline. I am glad to see they have re engineered the engine. The 2.4lt in my 2011 has the timing tensioner problem that the engine is well known to have. Overall, I will keep my current 2011 equinox until they find a way to make a bigger volt. I would LOVE to see an electric tahoe!!

    Looks to me like gm is on the move in a positive way. Upgrading there products in meaningful ways , and leading with engine tech. Maintaining the conservative styling but fixing the front grills to look better and more up to date. Strong model updates on the last few releases,cruise ,Malibu ,Impala all look good and seem to offer better value than before.

      That being said, with the new vehicle being 400lbs lighter, you should feel more power even with the small engine! Personally, I'd buy a Premier Edition, 2.0L Turbo - The new one drives really nice! Check it out!

      I believe the Buick is made in China? I just drove a 1.5L Equinox today, and that thing is dead silent. The whole vehicle feels more luxurious to me because of how well it is sealed up. Very comfortable ride. Made in Canada matters! GM CAMI Assembly has won many awards for Quality building the First and Second generation Equinox products - So expect nothing less than the best from this new Third Generation Equinox when it launches next year!

    Ford's 2.0l has 240hp and 270lb-ft of torque. GM is kind of late to the turbo game. Gm is also copying Ford with the hands free lift gate. There are a lot of features that are taken from the Ford Edge. The diesel is very interesting, but the horsepower isn't impressive. Why not offer it with the Colorado's Duramax?

    Americans embracing diesel and the rest of us in Europe are starting to switch to petrol, Renault have announced its going to cease with diesels in the future

    • @l10industries
      @l10industries 8 років тому +3

      To be fair, diesels in the US are generally cleaner and held to much higher emissions standards in small vehicles. That has a lot to do with the pricing though, with Europe receiving these changes, diesels will have less of a price advantage.

    • @edwardsr70
      @edwardsr70 8 років тому +1

      only reason is because the CAFE standards are increasing here and the automakers need to comply or they get fined I think.

    • @lffit
      @lffit 8 років тому

      Diesels cost more to buy around 2000 euros more for a small car, they known to be problematic, injectors diesel pumps and DPF ( FAP filters here ) which can clog if the car isnt driven enough on autoroutes at speed, and are expensive to replace. They were first thought be less polluting, but it it was the finer particles escaping which were deemed to be polluting and cancerous, as well there has been move development in gas engine design lately and the price gap difference between the fuels has narrowed.
      Its estimated you would have to drive around 60000 kms before any savings were realised from buying diesel.

    •  8 років тому

      Yeah, looks like America needs cities full of diesel cars hopping a few miles, sitting at traffic lights and polluting air to learn its enviro and economy lesson. Every car dealer, used or new, should be forced by law to display a big flag that says MPG IS NOT EVERYTHING ;) At least that's the state of the affairs here in Europe - most people are blind to everything else and go bonkers over how many L/100km they burn. And the rest of us have to pay with our lungs.

    • @MacFreaks
      @MacFreaks 8 років тому

      Problem with diesel in the US is that less than half of all gas stations dispense diesel fuel. And to be honest I don't think that's going to change any time soon, seeing how more and more hydrogen and electric stations are being installed every day. I bet the only reason they put this motor in the Equinox is because GM could just 'borrow' it from GM Europe (Opel).

      I see media commenting on Cadillac's that how good are they. But bottom line is you don't see them on the road. unless they sell those to Aliens...lol. When Mercedes, BMW, Audi or Infinity comes out with their new models and if the car is good you can see them on the road.They talk about Malibu and Cruze but truth is you don't see them on road like you see Honda's, Toyota's or Nissan in every 3rd car.

    why does chevy keep making every car consistently uglier and more cheap looking than the previous model. everything from the Camaro to the equinox to the Malibu. • @JustinKelly

      I definitely disagree. Chevy is making cars that LOOK much more premium that they really are. The old designs (expect the Cruze) look very rental carish as many of the models are. If you think the new Camaro looks cheap then is being very dishonest/ bias for brand as it looks anything but Cheap. People may not like the design but you surely can't call it that...
