We have a 'fully loaded '13 Equinox LTZ that's serves as my wife's daily driver and it has been a very impressive crossover. We get close to 30 mpg hwy with the cruise on even though the EPA hwy estimate is 24 mpg for our V6. This new model is slightly smaller and has lost close to 400 lbs as it competes more directly with the compact field now where as the last gen was a larger tweener model. In the flesh this is a good looking model inside and out. We have over 75k miles on our Nox and the only maintenance has been regular oil changes, that's what I call a great low cost of ownership for 5 years.

I have the LS and I will say the 1.5 with turbo is plenty of power. And I also find the interior a very nice update For those that gripe about materials being used through out. How often are you touching those materials? I find they are working for where it's being used. They have the "soft touch" materials where you are most likely to place your hands or arms. Why would you want soft touch materials on the dash near the windshield? Those are easier to clean and maintain. I've had the 18 Equinox for just over a month and I'm enjoying it. It's handling just fine in the winter weather. Those standard heated seats are a plus for sure. As for the vents. Adjust accordingly or another thought...reduce the fan speed. Otherwise I don't find them being an issue. And from what I can tell it's pretty much got the same fuel economy and to fill it as as my Cruze that I traded in for the 18 Equinox. So for me it's an upgrade!

The Equinox is the only car in the compact SUV segment that is actually fun to drive. I don't mind it having 5MPG less than a Honda CRV that has a weak 180HP.

The Malibu interior is disappointing for a 35K+ car. The softer Impala style interior would have been a better fit IMO.
    Good review Edmunds.

$40K is misleading. That's for the Premier which usually doesn't have the rebates like the LT's do (IDK why, ask the marketing geniuses at GM) I bought my LT with a $36.5 sticker for just under $30K with ALL these features in the video..same engine, tranny, roof, etc less the rear heated seats and car charging pad. Looked at a Honda CRV but it didn't come close in price and wasn't impressed with the TonkaToy/StarWars interior design.

No cooled seats though, or heated second row

This car drops value really quick. You can find the LT trims 2-3 years old for almost half of it's original price. Lucky for me, I'm looking at a preowned 2016 Equinox for around $13,500

I have a 2019 LT with the 1.5L and I think it has plenty of pep. More pep than the 2011 I traded in with the 2.4L. Plus I'm getting over 35mpg ... I'm happy.

I love GM and I think they are doing some impressive things but after seeing how good the Traverse is it just makes me wonder why they didn't do the same with the Equinox.

Bugs me... all the vehicles with a tall center cosole that restricts one from moving / stretching one's right leg. Feel completely boxed in. Not good for a longer driver, especially on a compact vehicle where space it tight to begin with.
I don't think ANY of the car designers actually drive these cars any distance or time. Add in small 2nd row windows, large rear pillars and the whole vehicle feels claustophobic.

40k isn’t misleading.... he’s driving the Premier Edition with the 2.0L turbo. You can tell by the 19” wheels found only on the Primere. That’s what I paid for mine... I love it. I do disagree on road noise. Mine is very quite inside.

    1. Chevy Equinox is streamlined and conservative. Honda CRV is deformed and ugly from the back. 2. Importantly Equinox's base model offers 7 in screen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, CRV does not. 3. Base Equinox's transmission is normal not CVT like CRVs that feels less refined. 4. Base model fuel economy is nearly the same.

$40k is ridiculous for a vehicle without adaptive cruise control and hard, brittle plastics

      Cody Mathews couldn't agree more

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 7 років тому

Cody not really a counter argument (because in part I do agree), but when did hard plastics become synonymous with brittle? To my knowledge hard materials in vehicles last quite a bit longer and stand up to more abuse than their soft touch counterparts. I've seen many more soft materials delaminate and/or lose some aspect of their quality over time. That is why a lot of utility vehicles use harder plastics in their rear quarters where children or passengers have a tendency to be rougher.

The 2018 Equinox 1.5 TAWD is $21K on cars dot com where the CR-V is $5,000 more at $26K. Not sure if it is worth $5,000 than the Chevy but the bank set Honda residuals won't catch that discount within a lease period. The older CR-V L 2.4l AWD is still $2,000 more expensive with lower output engine and less features that the 2018 Equinox 1.5T AWD.

This guy did a great review. The ride is awful. You feel everything. There's no sense of proper damping. The road noise is awful. The use of extremely hard, brittle plastics is way too much.
The competition is so much better!

This vehicle is so expensive for a awful interior. Not premium at all yet has a luxury vehicle price. The fact that GM was late to the game with this vehicle and it doesn't do a single thingbetter than its competition should be embarassig. Clearly all they benchmarked was the Mitsubishi Outlander. GM is failing everywhere

VTEC kick in Cx-5 and CR-V are better but definitely not the fav 4. Other than the new Camry, Toyota is pretty much at the bottom of EVERY segment they compete in.
