Switching the nose on a 1991 NASCAR Pontiac Grand Prix Restoration (4K) | Petty's Garage

- Work continues on the 1991 race car restoration. For those not in the know, this car was absolutely destroyed in a wreck at Sonoma in 1991. After it came back home, it was repaired and turned into a "show car." When this happens, especially on cars that are destroyed like this one was, you go into the attic and grab whatever parts will fit and send it on its way. Therefore, the nose that ended up on this car is most likely from 1989. To make sure this car is period correct, we went out and sourced a correct nose.

I always appreciate when a historically significant race car is kept/returned to accurate "as raced" configuration. And imo, ANY car The King raced in competition is worthy of being corrected to the day he raced it (as much as humanly possible). Good job.
Love the Hans Zimmer/Days of Thunder music to go along with the video! You gotta have this playing while working on a racecar 🏎️
I could watch this all day!
Such knowledge, skill and care put into resorting this car!
fantastique greetings from south france a real savoir faire many respect for the works it's just awesome to see a restoration of old cars of the epoch.

Where did y’all get the new nose from.
Friend of a friend. Had to pull several strings to get it here!
Nascar's golden era...
Great work and video. What is going to happen to the old nose?
Where can one purchase a new nose piece for a 1988-89 NASCAR Pontiac Grand Prix? I am restoring a former Jimmy Means #52
I can’t believe a nascar driver has a UA-cam channel
I am very impressed with the work here! I have to say, I did not realize how much work would go into this part of the restoration. The work to take the old nose off in such a surgically precise way is what impressed me, especially with the awareness of the car's dimensions and unique design. This is truly a testament to the excellence that comes with the Petty name! Well done. I'm glad to see you found an authentic to the period nose! The car is coming together beautifully! Hope to see that car rolling into New York's Times Square or onto the Boston Common!
Also: For those wondering (and it's not my video), here's the "way before" of what happened to this car:

One video called this accident one of Richard Petty's "most physically exacting" accidents.
And this backs up the description in the video-the original nose was, well, gone to schmatta.
Thanks for sharing with us!
Is that a Petty Charger that's the primed car in the background? If so, what are you doing to it?
Is it bad i want them to restore the car petty drove his last race in as well
Any fab guy thats been around the block a few times has a tube "unbender" Ive got a one built into my tubing rack!
6:27 what's that little blue cart in the background used for?
Used to be used for wheels and tires in the pits.
Whats the song at @5:20
Sounds something similar to nightcall or forestcall
Song is Aurora Borealis by Lunareh

Curiosity... what is going to be done with the nose that came off? I'd love to have it if you'd be willing to part with it
That car looks perfectly fine the way it was I don't understand what there doing..
This is a 1991 car that had been turned into a show car after a crash. In the process of being made show ready, it had been fitted with a 1989 spec nose. The car is currently being restored to be period correct to 1991 and as such, has now been fitted with a 1991 spec nose, as shown in this video. So, it may have looked perfectly fine the way it was, however, it wasn't historically accurate to when it raced in '91.
@@hakkalocken thank you. I also was confused as to why they was doing this
