Love it, such a great event and made by the volunteers and people cheering you on. Best moment was Lynne making me and my mate a cup of tea at the end in 2013. It was wet and freezing, having introduced herself as Mrs Fred, she said 'he would have loved all this' looking around at all the cyclists shaking with cold
@@OllieBridgewood was amazing to have you on board Ollie, and for all your help and advice since and after. Looking into other film-making ideas for the future
Excellent video and captures the essence of the Fred Whitton Challenge , lucky enough to ride it twice, with last year supporting the mountain rescue. Also nice to see me in the video on two separate occasions 😂😂
Wonderful film, thank you! Did it in 2022 and 2023 then got sick and had to defer my 2024 place. This morning I secured my place for 2025! This video has made me super excited for next May 11th. ❤
Excellent! I've done it a couple of times, 2016 and 2018. Walked Hardknott both times. Saw Ollie at the start in 2018, and Katie just after Fangs Brow. Had glorious sunshine both times, but I bet it can be a bit grim in bad weather. I'm hoping to volunteer in 2025 then ride it again in 2026.
That was really well done, Scott. As an American I've only heard little bits about this event, but I enjoyed learning about it here and can see why it's one of those bucket last rides for people. Good stuff!
A good........... no, this was a brilliant piece worth the wait. Having done the event it felt even more personal, and calming to know how others feel on the day :-) Everyone involved - including us make it what it is - the best day out. see you all in May whether on two wheels or on the roadside :-)
Great video , brought back a lot of memories for me. He was good friends with my dad and they used to race together. Paul his son and I repeated it we used to race together, he was a great mate!! Fred was good coach he was always there to part wisdom. Love to Lynn and the family and great film!!!
What a brilliant film! Was fortunate enough to ride it this year, and it broke me but watching this has done something to my brain, I feel the need to do it again! Oh and sorry for getting in shot behind Barty, oooops :-) Awesome!
This was great to watch. After doing the Fred Whitton last year, I was keen to find the whole back story. This was wonderful to watch. Thank you for such a brilliant short film.
Great video and makes me want to do it again. One of the best days on a bike I have ever had.. I have been lucky enough to ride in some of the biggest European Sportives and this is certainly equal to those. The support you get from locals and volunteers is amazing and you can't believe you are actually in the Uk given what cycling can be like.
I love this video so much! Such great background, amazing footage and contributions from current British cycling cultural icons :) Thank you so much for putting this together and posting it - cycling in the Lakes was my escape when I was young......now I have no excuse not to have a crack at the FW! Look out for me sobbing on a fell-side near you soon....
Based on the awesome effort you made, and how tremendously appealing and motivating it was to me, I’ve been accepted for next years challenge. You are entirely to blame for the next months of solitude training, my wife missing me, my dog getting shorter walks and last but not least the expense of a newer bike😀😀😀🙏🙏🙏🙏
Loved this Scott - it really captures what is great about The Fred, the people who make it happen, and the magical place where it happens. Thank you 👍💥
Brilliant insight into this famous event. I’m a West Cumbrian and have nothing but admiration for all those involved. Makes me want to get out and practice more. I know these climbs well, such a challenge!
Thanks for sharing the video. OMG I can see my self on the video clips one on the starting line and one on the feed stop. It was amazing experience for me and my friends finishing the FWC 25th anniversary. I’m planning to join again in 2026 if I got lucky in the Ballot
Ahh this gives me lots of memories of home. Have ridden many of these roads whilst out training but never in one go, maybe one day I'll be lucky enough to ride The Fred
I couldn’t get a ticket this year so I did it solo the day before as it has always been an ambition to complete the route. Fantastic route. Pretty tough. (Although I thought the original struggle moors was a bit harder… but they’ve tamed that route now). I watched your videos before doing it, and had also completed Lakeland loop and all the other climbs in shorter rides. Great video feature👍
There's always the charity place to guarantee entry. Granted it's more money - but it does go straight to them on the Presentation day. Thanks for you kind words
I have done the Fred 3 times and on the 3rd time got all the way round without walking on Hardknott, it felt like I had won the Tour! Great event in a great place, run by great people.
Really enjoyed this, Scott (despite the unflattering image of me trying to walk at the finish funnel). Great contributors (what was going on during Katie K's bit, did she have the builders in?!) and great content, really captures the feel of the event and the footage around the route is representative of the beauty of the Lakes. Hopefully, be doing this with you next year (some way back)!
Great video😊. I’ve done it off my own back and it’s a truly great route. I’d love to do the event but I’m out off by the videos I see of people of the climbs all over the road
Oh is it! Thanks! I thought that was wrynose in the distance that's what threw me. That Blea Tarn descent is not nice with the gravely bits on the bends, especially when you've had your fill of terror descending for the day already 😂
Lovely video. Really inspiring to hear all those stories, especially the non cyclists coming back year after year in memory and support. Amazing effort by anyone who gives that a go! 🙂
Great video and representation of Fred. Anyone interested in cycling would know of The Fred and how tough it is. Well done to everyone that has ridden it. I know how tough Hardknot pass & Wrynose is having ridden them both. And that was on a motorbike 😉😂
Yeah made it to the end intact, but fully cooked. Great video, got me thinking about 2025, some how the pain is forgotten and just the memory of an epic day out remains
Great film. This is a proper bike ride . No doubt about that . If I had been recording my times over all that time I think the best thing is to cat them under old course - new course distances so you do get that accurate comparison .
Rode this way back in 2002 when it was just a local ride. Over the course of a few years I got close to sub 7. Hardknott after 100 miles - no man's land. Gotta be done!
