Do you need to clean the pipes? The ones I see at big box stores are so oily.

Yes! Some cheap mineral spirits will clean them right up pretty quickly! Then you'll want to coat them with something to protect them from rust, I used brushing lacquer and it worked great.

I got it from Zoro.com, it was way cheaper than the big box stores and they basically ship overnight!
