Build Industrial Pipe Shelves

- This is part 1 of a closet conversion into a bar. First I had to line the walls then I put up some pipe shelves with some old pipe I've collected from over the years. Fun project, albeit frustrating at times.

Yeah that looks right up my alley. Made some lamps and a pipe fitting TV stand. I have to try shelving next. They definitely look cool against that wall.
They are of course heavy so the round flanges sure helped out in lining up with the studs in the wall. Great project.

I'm just about at the decorating stage for the Covid bar/hot tub/sleepover project. This is the best shelving I've seen so far. I still don't know how far I want to push the steam punk look. This is really good.
This is a decent set up for what I wanted, I also added a pipe towel rack tucked away on the left side that didn't make it on the video. If you mount them to the studs like I did, this is a pretty good project to support all your (hic) beverages.
Nice. Today I seen 1st time on my ebay on my suggestion items, Industrial Steampunk Iron Pipe Shelf Brackets and I liked it. Came here to youtube for tips to buy them cheaper to diy but I came across you're video and you stepped up my game. Well done.
Be as creative as you want, or as much as your wallet will allow. Salvaging pipe and couplers is part of the fun too.

Great video. Easily saved me a lot of time versus how I thought I would do it. I’m finnda make a bunch of scraps look good and a bunch of walls look very busy. 5:44

I luv it...fabulous pallet wood accent wall!!! 💜 I'm luv'n the aged oak, it looks like you use "Weather Wash" oak wood stain (from home depot), I am currently building a 600sq foot tiny house with a rustic farmhouse feel...anyways, I want to do some industrial floating shelves in my kitchen...once I'm done installing my vinyl plank floors...I'll try building my industrial shelves!
I used a homemade solution of vinegar, water and steel wool to get that color. Works well. I used to age some beams for the same room.

Great project. I am going to work on some shelves for my bar and this is my inspiration. One thing I wanted to know is what paint did you use for the black pipe? And did you have to clean them first with mineral spirits to get the oil coating off before painting? Thanks, awesome work.
If you buy the pipe off the shelf then I would definitely clean the pipes with at least a rag. I spray painted it with some high heat paint I have for the grill but just about any spray paint will work. I suggest priming it first but it's not necessary. Thanks for watching.
Did you mount the shelves in studs or no ? Didn’t look like you did
I did- two in each flange. The others were just for show as the diameter of the flange is too large to sink four screws into a stud.
How much were the supplies for this build? Specifically just the shelves not the wall paneling.
I paid about $30.00 for the piping I didn't already have. The shelves were made from poplar and cost about $15.00. Everything else I either had of salvaged from elsewhere. Thanks for watching.
They look nice, I would recommend using ward fitting instead of china made.
Some of those were old salvaged fittings and I had a buy a few others. They seem to be holding up well despite their origin. Thanks for watching.

Hello sir, what is the size of the floor flanges ? I have 9cm diameter but I think it's too big .
I used 1/4" and 1/2" pipe. I can't recall off hand the diameter of the flanges. But if you're going to use the same set up, I don't believe you should make the shelves with anything less than 1/4"..

How did you come up with the configurations for the pipes was it random? I love it, I’m going to attempt this on either side of my fireplace………
Thank you. 99% of the pipe was salvaged, and many of those pieces were stuck together with decades old epoxy. So instead of going through the pain and misery of cutting them apart, I just went off what I couldn't separate. The trick was to get the total width from flange to flange at 16" so I could sink screws into the studs in the wall. If you're going to support anything of substantial weight, I suggest you do the same. Good luck with your design.
