Good video & I'm impressed with the gel fuel. I have the gel burner for my Trangia Triangle stove and use hexamine solid fuel tablets to make a compact kit. Thank you for sharing 👍

    Nice lighter 👍
Would interesting to see how it would work in a pinch with alcohol based hand sanitizer. I presume you would need to put more in the tin and it would probably leave more/worse resudue. Something to do if you revisit this one.
    Thanks

been experimenting with the esbit alcohol burner cookset. primarly a priming pan for cold weather. so far a lid from a mini altoid tin seems to be the best. reason the lid is only about 3mm deep. like the lid on the gel burner. so if you have a trangia style burner. use the gel burner bottom as a shelf to raise the lid off the cold ground. an heat the alcohol burner above it. been using 15ml fuel in the primer pan.

Great video! Though I would have loved to see the flame in a darker environment. Maybe a tip for the next video and a head to head boiling comparison between the alcohol and the gel.

Thanks! I was thinking about doing a head to head boiling comparison between the two. Looks like it's going to be the next video! Thanks for watching.

@@autumnkraft man, only now I realize that this is the first time I see a gel burner in action LOL you have piqued my curiosity and I am seriously thinking of buying one myself too. I just have to check the avalability of the gel itself in my country.

@@BodolayBotond It's interesting to use. It definitely burns hotter than the alcohol stove. I personally don't see myself using it for actual "cooking", the alcohol stove with the simmer ring is better suited to that. The gel burner is perfect for boiling water though. It's worth checking out!

Hiya, good video.I've got one of those but not used it yet. Out of interest how many mm's of gel did you use?

Hi Paul! Thank you! I didn't measure how much I used as I just poured it straight from the bottle! I could easily do another test though and measure how much goes in if you're interested? - Hayden

The filter is so extreme that I can't really see what I'm looking for; the flame.

Does gel burn hotter than meths ?

I haven't took temperature readings, but it appears that it does burn hotter than meths. - Hayden

it depends on the type of gel. alcohol/ethanol based gel burns at the same btu level as meths, but diethylene glycol based gels burn much hotter.

Such a beautifully shot video! Can I ask what camera / mic you use?

Thank you so much! I used a Olympus E-M1 mark II + Olympus 12-100 f4 PRO IS for this video. I pair that up with a Boya BY-MM1 microphone. - Hayden
