Optimus No. 00 Stove | Awesome Stove for Bushcraft
The Optimus No.00 is a great stove if you're into vintage gear. It packs down quite small and it's perfect for those who are after something that will stand the test of time. In this video, I take a look at the parts of the stove and show how to assemble it.

Thanks for this video. Grandpa gave me one of these and hope to lug it up some mountains.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
are there alcohol stoves as pretty as these? I have a trangia-type. I was talking about a larger tank that I could leae the fuel in, something bigger.
Hola amigo. Saludos cordiales LU7DZM
Amazing stove. This UA-cam channel is very cool. 😊
Thank you. Apart from waxing your canvas gear you can curl up your bicycle chain and cook it in the molten mixture, too. That will make that chain last a lot longer.
Cheap chinese
Excelente cocinilla.. fácil de reparar,y construidas con materiales nobles.,tengo una de cuando era scout cumpliré 60 Años..y todavía funciona como la primera vez ,..!!
A few years ago I found one in a garage sale. It was never used. The original carton box was completely rotted but the stove was in a super condition. After I have seen this video I’m going try to use it 😊
What's your wax recipe? I see most people go 2 beeswax : 1 parafin wax, some go 1:1, some even add linseed oil. How does linseed oil affect the wax though?
It doesn't need it at all, and increases the cure time to much if you ask me, a 2:1 or even a 3:1 beeswax to parafin is fine and all thats needed, and it wont get greasy unless you put too much parafin in, but 2;1 is fine so is 3:1 even more fine.
never mind I just watched his video and I think you should listen to him...lol
Nice video man!
Interesting clips and video shoots, learned a lot! Thanks for sharing! The food looks great too!
Good video & I'm impressed with the gel fuel. I have the gel burner for my Trangia Triangle stove and use hexamine solid fuel tablets to make a compact kit. Thank you for sharing 👍
Nice lighter 👍 Would interesting to see how it would work in a pinch with alcohol based hand sanitizer. I presume you would need to put more in the tin and it would probably leave more/worse resudue. Something to do if you revisit this one. Thanks
The filter is so extreme that I can't really see what I'm looking for; the flame.
Recently purchased the Silva Expedition Compass agree it’s a really solid compass I’ve purchased a few baseplate compasses recently although not cheap the Silva feels really good quality. Also like it’s got a clinometer
What the yeas bro
Bought mine in 1970. Works great as long as you use clean fuel 2x filtered
Great to hear yours is still going! Can't beat these old stoves! Thanks for watching - Hayden
Cute lil guys ,,, good eating too
Brilliant advise assume this can be used on fjallraven stuff after...
Absolutely! Works perfect! - Hayden
✨🐝✨ 👶👏💦
been experimenting with the esbit alcohol burner cookset. primarly a priming pan for cold weather. so far a lid from a mini altoid tin seems to be the best. reason the lid is only about 3mm deep. like the lid on the gel burner. so if you have a trangia style burner. use the gel burner bottom as a shelf to raise the lid off the cold ground. an heat the alcohol burner above it. been using 15ml fuel in the primer pan.
Sounds like a great tip! I'll be sure to give that a go! Thanks for watching - Hayden
They’re a great stove, with a little maintenance they will last several life times unlike modern throw away gear.
d Does gel burn hotter than meths ?
I haven't took temperature readings, but it appears that it does burn hotter than meths. - Hayden
it depends on the type of gel. alcohol/ethanol based gel burns at the same btu level as meths, but diethylene glycol based gels burn much hotter.
That's amazing. I have been using these 00 stoves since the 70s and I never knew you could screw the cap on the plunger. I have recently acquired an old one in blue tin. Could be older than me Thanks
Love Optimus No.00, not too big not too small, handy and thrustworthy companion.
Next time throw the hotdog over in there with the noodles. I bet it would be good!!
I make tomato soup in the pot and grilled cheese on the lid at the same time. It is wonderful when it is cold outside!! Warms you right up. They are fantastic rice cookers too. Great video. I will subscribe.
Ref the boil time you might want to check the distance from the bottom of the pot. If you do a search you will find loads of videos about the perfect height being 1 and a quarter inches.
Quite right! It's way too close!
Such a beautifully shot video! Can I ask what camera / mic you use?
Thank you so much! I used a Olympus E-M1 mark II + Olympus 12-100 f4 PRO IS for this video. I pair that up with a Boya BY-MM1 microphone. - Hayden
hi mate always good hope your well nice video and good info
Thanks! I'm well, hope you are too! Thanks for watching! - Hayden
3:11 ....Love this mess tin...I've been watching alot of ytube channels where people will use this type of mess tin , and make amazing cooking videos and others use it for a survival tin (which has replaced the Altoids tin) ....great piece of gear.
It's a great tin. I'd like to get the large Trangia tin at some point and test it out. Thanks for watching! - Hayden
Really enjoyed your bushcraft cooking kits and cooking....It's fun to see what dishes , others are making in the bush. My buddy who lived in the UK, told me that no matter what happens...you can't get lost in the UK...cause their are houses everywhere, in the country spread. Someone is bound to give you directions and point you in the right direction... Can't say the same for us in Northern Canada, though...we need a compass My weakness with compass is....I can't figure out how to tell, how hi a tree is , standing 6.6 mtrs (20 ft) from it.
Glad you're enjoying the cooking videos. It's true to a certain extent. The UK is rather largely populated with lots of land built on. Parts of the UK are untouched still, Dartmoor, Brecon beacons, Snowdonia and large parts of Scotland are quite easy to get lost in and many people do each year. Northern Canada is a completely different landscape and like you said much more remote! - Hayden
Also if your compass has a clinometer, you can use that to work out how high the tree is. Hope this helps!
2:56... with my weather books ...I always have to scribe the variety of KNOTS & terminology with cordage, that are most essential to my camping, *Terminology* Standing ends,Working end, Tail end, loop, bite, etc. *Blanket bundles* ( Canadian Jam knot , ) *Tarp setups* (Truckers Hitch, Jungle knots, Prussik knot, Tensioning Tautline knot, Tensioning hitch knot , ) *Hammock & rain fly set ups* (Bowline knot, figure 8 lashing , Quick Release knot, Truckers Hitch, ) even *Tripod/Bipod knots* (clove hitch, 5x over under wraps, Fraps , )lol ..(ex: Canadian jam knot / truckers hitch / ) You get the idea....there's alot of knots to remember , and I need to scribe , diagram them all in my pocket book .
@@kan-zee There is always lots of information to keep track of! I keep all of this information in my other notepad that I keep on my person so that it is more readily available to reference. As always, thanks for watching! - Hayden
Well edited....loving the variety of angle shots, zoom in, pan outs ...very pleasurable to watch
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Stay tuned for more videos. I've got some more planned with the Trangia 27 and the mess tin soon. Thanks for watching! - Hayden

They are really well made! Thanks for watching! - Hayden
Nice, no annoying & unnecessary narration in this video. Wonderful close-up shots too. Well done!👍
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Stay tuned for some more videos of this stove coming up soon! - Hayden
Wicked! I wanna try it 👍
Lovely video, interesting, informative and also nice and peaceful. If making the nettle tea at home, do you need to bring the nettles to a boil in a pan or can you just put nettles in a teapot and pour boiling water from a kettle over them?
Thank you! I'd still bring the nettles to a boil in a pan. Let them simmer for 5 minutes after the rolling boil and then pour into your teapot after! 🙌
