This version looks really neat and does a great job. Most of the things needed, I had lying around. You could make a larger version, only limited by the size of the toughened glass!
However, I realise that some people either can't or don't want to make one, or maybe get offered the chance to have one as a gift.
A year or so later than this video came out, I found it was coming apart in the extreme heat! The tape could no longer cope. So I passed it on to a friend in cooler climes and bought a Tim Holtz one.
I bought the full size one but often wish I'd bought the smaller one,

Exellent! I used a round wooden dowel to make mine years ago and used Kraft tex and wood glue. I hinged the kraft tex on both sides and stuck it to plexi glass. I placed a stamp on a cutting board (base) to gauge the distance between the glass and base for the hinge. I also placed an adhesive magnetic sheet on the base so magnets could be used to secure anything you are stamping on. It was about $15 to create and is open on two sides to fit any size paper or fabric.

I am late to the party and I want to thank you. I looked into several designs and planned out carefully how I wanted to construct my stamping platform. I loved your version because it has a spine. I bought two pieces (9" x 12" or about 23 x 30cm) of plexiglass and used 1" Permacel tape (strong and removeable, used by teachers). For the spine I used a 1/4" square dowel and set everything like a book spine. I used a thin sheet of foam for rubber cling stamps (I have the clock stamp in your video), and thick foam for clear stamps. It came out wonderful and cost me around $20 USD.

Sorted! Got a spaghetti tin from the chinese shop. Got hubby to cut the end off, then used scissors to cut down the seam. Marked out the size, cut again and used a rolling pin that I keep for craft use to flatten it out. Stuck to the foam and covered with another grid. Works really well as the magnets now keep the paper in place.

I love yours it looks quite classy.
I made mine out of an Ikea frame, I cut the tin layered it in the bottom put paper over it then the graph paper then a thin sheet of flexiglasss about 1 to 2 mm thick lodge it in the bottom frame, I replaced the glass in the frame top with 5 mm flexglass and i use extra strong magnets it works brill but i do like yours. tHanks for sharing

I've been looking at DIY stamp platforms for the last 3 days, I'm disabled and the dexterity of my hands is beginning to get worse so trying to push down down evenly onto a stamp is becoming harder to do successfully,
I've seen the DVD case ones which are ok but there not really my cup of tea 🍵, I've been looking at the picture frame style ones, which I thought I'd end up going with, there easy enough to personalize and be made to fit in with the rest of my art space, but then today I clicked onto your video and straight away I knew this was the one for me!...🤗...
Its sleek, its classy, its elegant and totally what I was looking for... the only thing I was thinking of changing was the glass as much as I would love the glass my grandchildren craft with me so I thought should I go with some acrylic perspex...?... I'm sure I heard you say it was toughened glass...?
Which if that's the case I'm definitely going to use the glass...
Thank you soo much for sharing your wonderfully inventive DIY stamping platform...
I've instantly subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos...
I hope you have a fabulous week my lovely...

If you go with glass, make sure it is toughened glass, but I warn you it is heavy. You may be better off going for a thick perspex. If it is too thin, it has too much flex in it and you risk getting bad prints from it. Glad you are enjoying my channel. I even have videos on polymer stamp making at home!

@@createinspain How funny is that, ten minutes before I read your reply, I was looking at the glass mats and thought an A4 size piece of glass is going to be a bit heavy for me, especially as the reason I want to make my own stamping platform is because of my poor dexterity, so I've look up on the perspex (3-4mm thick) and added together the cost of 2 x A4 clear perspex sheets, a roll of vinyl which is in rose gold (to match my decor in my craft space)some slightly thicker foam than I have and even the extra strong magnets and it still only came to £14.45 and if I bought 2 extra smaller sheets of perspex to make a smaller version (for smaller stamps & for my grandchildren)it still only came to £21.40, so I'll be saving soo much money, I had a look at the "Tim Holtz" stamping platform and the travel one is £25 and the bigger one is over £55... so I'm just really thankful for coming across your video today...
So thank you again my lovely...x

Kat, I very much doubt they need that, these polymer stamps I've made have barely been used, more down to my lack of technique than ink not adhering - they were not always as flat as they should be when I first started making them!

Lol, making your own version is fine. Now if you were trying to manufacture and sell copies, that may be grounds for concern - but unless someone has a world wide Patent, even that is dubious.

Thank you! Thats the same problem I am having with my MISTI, the photopolymer stamps grab onto my paper and lift it up even with the magnets holding the paper down! I'll have to give that a try, making the base tray a little tacky!

Hi Craftin Kate. I saw a video where clear acetate was placed over the paper then the stamp placed over the acetate for accurate positioning that way the stamp was unable to grab the paper; then the acetate was removed and voila! problem solved. Hope this helps.

Yes, I've seen that method. However, I don't have an IKEA nearby. I also wanted one that does not flex, hence the glass. The magnetic sheets I can buy locally are not strong enough.

I have heard complaints that the Misti doesn't always keep the paper down either...another reason apart from price that I wouldn't buy one. I've now got a tin for hubby to cut down for me :) The sticky surface works well enough but obviously will need refreshing. I do like that this one has some heft to it.

Tim Holtz stamp platforms were taken off the market because the sweet darling who owns MISTI had MISTI sue, claiming the platform had "hinges" that violated the MISTI copyright. Bear in mind that MISTI actually copyrighted a platform that had been used by printers/typesetters for decades.

The vinyl I used came from a DIY shop, it's sold for wall decor. You could use a strip of leather I guess or even canvas - anything that will adhere strongly and not stretch.
