I really like Surtr melancholic manner of speech. Like, its not just about him being depressed because he can't be together with his love, but he also lived for so long and seen stuff others can't even start to imagine - he couldn't care to act wise and sophisticated. Everything he says is simple and straight forward. "Love is pretty good"
When Surtr’s knocks them away, both Kratos and Atreus recover and slide to a stop on their feet at the same time. Clearly, Atreus did not slack on his 3 years of training.
Or surtur wasnt trying at all. That was literally just the air pressure around him slightly moving his hand in their direction.

If a primordial giant casually waves his hand and the air pressure suddenly knocks you flying 50 feet, regardless if the giant was trying or not, are you immediately recovering mid flight and sliding in a battle ready stance, ready to fight some sudden mobs?
Be honest, unless you’ve constantly trained for years for combat situations involving needing to recover your lost footing for sudden combat, most people aren’t doing that reflexively. My comment was to draw attention that Atreus now reflexively does this on the fly. Which is a massive difference from how he was in the first God Of War 2018 game.

This guy should've won best video game performance. He only had a few moments but he made every second a good one.
He is really good but they probably didn't nominate him because of how short his appearance is tbh seemed like the performance needed to be consistent and longer than a certain amount of time I guess.

First, getting rid of them with the same amount of effort of swatting flies and then proclaiming "what's left of him", like his form is but a fragment of what he once was.
I read somewhere that its because he has his lover's heart. And since the heart is that of a frost giant instead of his own fire giant heart it really weakened him a lot

It's amazing how oblivious Atreus is, he didn't notice he was ruining a couples life.
He is still a child of a broken father without his mother.
I can sympathize with Atreus, but doesnt change the fact that Surtr was annoyed with his devious personality.
Surtr knows that he is just a child that hasnt experienced anything, he didnt lash out to him which shows that he is wise and calm (expected for a god that has live since the beginning of everything)

@@azuraquinlilax1245 Truth be told, he did nothing in Ragnarok besides take out half his own team and then kill Freyr while trying to destroy the heart of Asgard AFTER Odin and Thor were already dead and no further threats were even in Asgard anymore. I’m sorry but everything after this moment in the game just felt rushed and underwhelming especially for the last “Norse” game

Logically they would’ve just sent Surtr alone and he’d have killed Odin and Thor anyways by destroying Asgard and they’d have avoided a lot of friendly casualties
@@josephstalin2606 that was not implied at all. His role is to destroy Asgard yes. But litteraly just the location . There is no guarantee that he would be able to solo the entire area while fighting Thor , Odin or all the others
Surtr, despite having such a small amount of screen time, was easily one of the most outstanding characters to me. The NAILED his characterization: He's old, older than probably anyone else we see in this game, and we can see the incredible power and intelligence he wields as a result, but living such a long life has made him tired and melancholic. What he says about his love for Sinmara and being separate, it's an incredibly fascinating perspective that he manages to get across without saying too much about it. While its by no means a common perspective, its enough for both of them, and that makes it valid enough. Where I expected the classic strong, stoic warrior with primordial power and eagerly waiting Ragnarök, I found something so much more interesting. Well done to the writers.

I was pleasantly surprised by Sutr in the game. This is not what I expected when I thought we'd be meeting him. That's really due to the MCU portrayal. This performance was amazing and I really love how they adapted him. Also I found it so good they incorporated the blades here! Would've been a missed opportunity
2:00 too few people are talking about this analogy of Atreus and Surtr’s wife. It immediately makes you empathize with Surtr.
It also immediately shuts off any possible rebuttal Kratos would have, as he would never sacrifice Atreus.

I've had to live apart from the one I love for a good many years due to circumstances outside of our control. This hit me hard.
I like how Surtr's turning into Ragnarok is a sort of parallel to when Kratos became the God of war, or "Athena's monster". We saw from the point of view of the receiver (Kratos) when he got the blades of chaos, when he turned lethal, bloodthirsty and went on a rampage. Now we see it from the point of view where we initiate the 'monster' in Surtr, who wanted nothing to do with Ragnarok and only wanted to protect his partner. Beautiful story really.

Love how this game made Norse Mythology's most dreaded figures into nicer fellows. Surtr the bringer of Ragnarok? Just a chill old guy trying to do a job even he doesn't like. Jormungandr the world serpent? Pretty amicable friendly neighborhood kaiju who is actually quite helpful. Fenrir the hound of Hel and apocalyptic beast feared even by the gods? Now the Goodest of Good Bois.

Is Surtr the most powerful entity Kratos has run into? The dude just raised his hand and blasted the 2 of them away without much thought, and then was obviously strong enough to cause Ragnarok
surtr on his own seem to have a level of brute power akin to what we see from the grek gods. but he doesn't seem more powerful than the likes of poseidon.
RAgnarok though is a power that is unseen anywhere in asgard. He'd have to be as powerful as the more cosmic beings that titans and gods are descendants of.
His Ragnarok form is probably if not the strongest thing, Kratos has ever seen besides Fear Mode Zeus.

Probably not much more tbh, not having his own heart diluted his power a lot, and without being ragnarok, his powers don’t extend beyond musflheimr.

The crazy thing is they could have just saved the Midgardians and the innocent Asgardians, then leave and just let Surtr/Ragnarök do the job: Kill Odin and destroy Asgard.
Some would say that if this was what happened, the final battles against Thor and Odin will not take place. It can if they leave the walls of Asgard and pursue Kratos and the escaping people, or Kratos at least preventing Odin's escape.
Kratos could have died in the flames of Ragnarok together with Odin and there will be no problem right there, it's just the other prophecy coming true.
If it didn't happen all of the other realms would have died/suffered immeasurably. The realm debilitating weather and deaths from it were coming due to the prophecy needing to be completed.

I feel like when one romantic partner sacrifices themselves for the other like this, it's actually pretty selfish of them.
Sinmara has to go on forever knowing that she'll never see him again. You even hear her cries post game. While I've never loved so completely like Surtr has, I can say that the best outcome for both of them is to die together.
Dying is easy. What's hard is living on while the one you love is dead.
Are surtr and Ragnarok the same?
Surtr is supposed to fuse with sinmara to become ragnarok, using his flame and her ice. But since he has her heart, and put his fire into Kratos’s blades, he was able to become ragnarok alone
@@Technovore-X yes like Atreus finding the mural of ragnorak earlier in the game, it depicts surtr and his love creating a new person, who will cause ragnarok. But really, it’s just a newer version of the two. Almost like how the giant jellyfishes in the elf realm had to sacrifice themselves to consummate babies

It didn't work because, according to Kratos: "The beast is not whole", meaning that without Simmara there were definitely some disadvantages

@@josephstalin2606 it’s the fusing of their powers. his fire and her ice. It’s like any other power up that involves a 2nd/3rd party’s power as a base. The fusing of power will usually result in a form that combines aspects from the origins

My only problem with the game is that I wanted more time with characters like this and less time doing angraboda's shopping. Or if they really wanted her, explore her issues with her grandmother more. The only interesting thing in that story went nowhere.

God of war could i alot better in story line i mean If aterus is Kidnapped or betrayed or scam by odin and thor beat the shit out of him to work for his goal in order to live then kratos get to know everything about this we would see the scene of kratos coming to asgard with sutr saying ODIN I BRING THE DESTRUCTION OF ASGARD it would be so badass
