Love how not only this is longer than the MW3 campaign and it's free, but also that it's just therapy. Kratos is seeing a therapist.
At first I fought it was just a joke / Meme that God of War Valhala was longer than MW3.
But now having playing it in the hardest difficulty, I probably spent more than 20 hours on it.

I've said that before but to add onto what you said. It was right at the same time Activision crew and cast were trying to clown on Christopher Judge since he said that in the awards. So they got clowned on again.
Honestly, I'm so glad that they finally showed how the real Tyr fights and reveals just how strong he is. Not to mention the fact that he's using weapons from different mythologies.
I know it's so cool seeing Egyptian, Japanese, and atec weapons, also hom pulling out the spear and shield from sparta is awesome
@@Donquavius08 his spear and shield are his nordic weapons, you can see it from the designs on them, most obviously the Tiwaz letter on the shield

@@Donquavius08 vikings used shield and spear just as much as the spartans did, but the weapons were definitely greek due to hits design. the nordic shield was more of like a shield with a strange half orb.

Too bad macuahuitil’s are shit weapons. And I’m saying that as an indigenous Mexican. Macuahuitil’s are good against bare flesh, but the obsidian shards completely shatter against any form of resistance. Whether that’s metal breastplates of the colonial Spaniards, or even modern day Kevlar armor. Tyr should have used the atlatl. It could have acted as his ranged phase.

Its worth appreciating how they managed to show Tyr being more than some peaceful pushover, the dude is literally capable of throat grabbing Kratos with surprising strength, and even when he gets tossed around he can still react fast enough to catch a punch and hold it! What a unit!
He is almost as strong as Kratos or the same power level,he was not even fighting to kill just helping Kratos
@@LucasCamargo827 I don't think he's anywhere near as strong as Kratos. Definitely strong, but the scaling difference between Asgardian and Olympian pantheon strength is so different.

I love the implications of these fights. Tyr having those weapons, especially those Khopesh swords, implies he's been through some things. He's not just a one-dimensional war god that just happens to be wiser than Kratos, he's *done* things that he regrets, he's been in a similar mental state than Kratos and he's grown past those hardships.
Also you gotta love that he yields each time. He knows he and Kratos could fight more seriously but that's not what it's about.
And Kratos realizes that too.
It's a nice contrast to how the other gods just wouldn't stop even if they were given the chance to.

I LOVE how Tyr is portrayed here. I like that he has weapons from different lands, just like Kratos. And he's no slouch either. His fights are appreciably challenging.
I like that apart from a therapy session, this is also an opportunity for Tyr to show of his weapon collection to one of the few people who might appreciate it.
Tyr believes in peaceful solutions, but he is by no means pacifist.
Do not seek war, but always be ready for it.

1:31 I love ths small smirk on Tyr's face. He wants to help Kratos be a better version of himself, not because of obligation or some other ulterior motive, but because he just wants to.
Remember that missing tyr panel in god of war 4 that had greek, aztec, japanese and Egyptian symbols? , Well he uses weapons from all of them in his fights!
The two handed greatsword : an aztec machuatil
The dual scimitars : Ancient Egyptian Khopesh (Scimitars)
The spear n shield : Goes without saying its greek
The katana : also goes without saying its Japanese
Each one is also comes with a small musical Change relating to the Weapon
Edit : just realized it effects his mid-phase special attack too!
Aztec : He summons minions to sacrifice themselves to heal him (refrencing how aztec culture was entirely about sacrifice)
Egyptian : the entire arena falls in darkness and you have to step in a circle of light to see (perhaps refrencing how ancient Egypt would be constantly Shrounded in sand stroms)
Japanese : he summons minions and clones of himself to attack (No clue, looks badass though)
The darkness might as well reference the plagues Moses threw upon Egypt
Both of them Cover the entire land in darkness so Eh could be either
(There's a bit of a Mythology Clash between them)
The power when he uses japanese weapons is a reference to how certain Japanese deities (like Amaterasu and Susano'o) would casually make servants in attempts to one-up the other.
I guess you could explain the Clones as part of the Many Celestial Gods in Kami mythology

I love how when Tyr gears up and tells Kratos that he’s not ready Kratos simply responds with a soft yet almost exciting “show me”. Kratos enjoys combat, so the opportunity to fight the God of War that he’s struggling to decide to replace must be exhilarating.
Seeing how good Tyr used every weapon he had at his disposal I wonder how well he would of used the Blades of Chaos 🤔
Exactly. You can hear Kratos feeling excitement at seeing this real legend in action ready to be truely tested.
I played on Normal difficulty but now i sort of wish i played on hardest because i feel like the story works well with Tyr beating my ass at least a couple of times
I never doubted the real Tyr's wisdom but WOW. He really made Kratos confront some difficult memories and walked him through everything. Absolutely superb writing from Santa Monica as always.

GoW 1 established that gods of war adapt depending on how humans wage war. So if modern weapons had existed at the time, Tyr and Kratos absolutely would have used them.

I love that this drives home the dichotomy between Odin and Tyr. Both sought knowledge and power from afar.
But whereas Odin sought these things only for personal gain, Tyr immersed himself in each discipline and uses it to help another.
Tyr could honestly probably defeat ares. The fact that he was holding back AGAINST an older, stronger Kratos seriously has me questioning if young Kratos could even beat him.
Ares was widely dispised amongst the Greek pantheon and I believe in the OG mythology he was considered an idiot and incompetent amongst the other Greek gods. It’s also important to remember that neither Kratos or Tyr are attempting to kill each other here and both are holding back immensely. When Kratos finally let loose, he could stalemate and injure Thor, who is stated to be stronger than both Tyr or Baldur..

In mythology yes but this isn't mythology mate this is God of War and by the looks of it "while Tyr is also holding back" Tyr is either stronger or smarter and he'd easily destroy Tyr especially since he's a God of war which all God's of war should at least be strategic in battle even if they're slightly weaker
@@goblo023If Kratos lashed out in anger and attempted to kill Tyr, he’d fail the test of Valhalla by giving into his old anger and pride. The perceived slight doesn’t matter, the wounded pride of strength doesn’t matter, all that matters is that you fought an honorable, willingly opponent who yielded. To push any further would be to fail the test.

Who said Tyr was holding back? People shouldn’t spread that around if it is not a fact. One time I beat him and he said “You are stronger than me” clearly he is not holding back.
Fun fact: When Tyr draws his weapon, the music changes depending on the country it’s from. Listen closely.

Actually the spear and shield are his own. They're nordic and the shield even has a nordic rune. they're just like the ones that were on his statue.
This is the real Tyr, The old God of War in Norse Land. He even used different weapons from another pantheon. Really love this DLC
I clowned on tyr so much in ragnorok but after fighting him so many times I see why his strength was feared and respected

Too bad we don't get to see Atreus being able to actually meet the real Tyr. I definitely think that it would have been a turning point in the story of Ragnarok. Especially with Atreus being able to learn more about the Giants from someone who spent a great deal with them.

Interesting perspective by Tyr, the idea of hope, love, fear and hate as key driving forces behind people's decisions are depicted by key characters throughout the series.
Kratos: Hope, the hope that he can one day redeem himself from his past, but must conquer his own inner demons before he can move forward.
Freya: Love, the love she had for her son, her people and even those that have done wrong by her. Her love was even able to conquer the strongest form of hate.
Thor: Hate, his inability to connect with others and hostility towards everyone. He's unable to see past his own hatred and anger until the very end.
Odin: Fear, his fear of the unknown, his fear of prophecy and fear of death is what drives him mad and obsessed with knowledge.
The best set of fights in this game. He kicked my ass several times and I was always eager to get back and try again
I found beating the chosen quickly and having enough health to beat Tyr the hardest part.
There's an alternate universe where the original God of War trilogy we got was about Tyr seeking vengeance on Odin, and then other two sequels in wich Tyr goes to Greece with the purpose to live a peaceful life with his new son...
More like going to the next pantheon and training another successor to kill said pantheon.

DLC made me love Tyr, he’s probably one of the few gods that’s as truly close to himself as he is in the real mythology
The fight may have been just for Kratos, but the Lesson was for all of us
No, the fight was definitely mine too, it was not easy to beat a god who changed his style 3 times and then combined all 4 at the end
It's nice to see the creators reminding people that Kratos in gow 3 was the accumulation of the 2 previous games. He wasn't always an angry destroyer. He just had enough.
I beat Tyr so convincingly one time he said to Kratos “You’re stronger than me” and another time he said “You deserve the win”
Tyr as a boss is amazing, it feels like Gael for me in DS3, the bossfight is like a gift to the fans, an serious challenge
Tyr is not like Baldur, Odin, Thor or any Greek god, Tyr is heroic, is fighting Kratos as a friend, training and helping him to conquer himself, yet the fight is serious and Tyr do not hold himself
Tyr also have different weapons from different mythologys, tons of magic and technics just like us
I finished the DLC in the hardest difficult and Tyr was a really tough fight, an amazing final boss for God Of War

@@myopiamlbbactually if you know for Kratos to be the god of war, he had to kill Ares…so he was still the ghost of Sparta at that time…so technically it’s Ghost of Sparta vs the God of War.
But clash between gods of war in Greek and Norse was a bit different
Ares wanted to kill Kratos and take everything from him and ruin his life.
Tyr wanted to duel Kratos to reach truth he needed to learn about himself.
Kratos in GoW had 4 different values:
-fear: death of himself to barbarian king,death of his family,destroy of his homeland,worry about losing his son Atreus;
-Love: loved his family in Greek and his new family in Norse,he respected every spartan soldier and his friends in Norse;
-Hate: He wanted revenge on Ares and Zeus for what they have done to his life,hated Athena for excusing his actions and doing them in a wrong way,any god who faced to kill Zeus,any god who faced ready to put his son Atreus in danger;
-Hope: Kratos managed to never give up to kill all the Gods he hated, Kratos' actions will decide to leading him to never lose faith to kill Zeus;he believed he can be better than he was in his past,to lead people like a hero,not like a monster.
All he learned from Ares was just to kill without cause.
All he learned from Tyr is to let chose Kratos what kind of person he want to be and wisely chose his actions to not let create circumstances.

It has a Nordic Rune on the shield, and both the spear and shield are identical to the one’s on Tyr’s statue and all other artistic depictions of him in-universe.

@@brushtooth6636 spear and shields were used by nearly every culture. Especially vikings because their metal wasn't great and swords were expensive. So common viking weaponry were spears.
I can't help but wonder how much Tyr has been holding back in these fights against Kratos. Given Mimir's stories, he would seem like a true force to be reckoned with, given his travels to other Pantheons, alongside what he has learned from the Giants.

@@Thedocctorr -- Interesting to learn. Haven't seen that piece of intel during my playthrough. Given the air around Tyr, it always felt like a he wouldn't be out to really kill Kratos, unless they were truly enemies.

I mean he was trapped in a cell for god knows how long
I see now Tyr is not a god of war, but a god of BATTLE! He meditates to build focus and channel energy, he speaks to Kratos through the language of combat, he learns and adapts, and most importantly he does NOT underestimate his opponents.
That "Show me" gave me chills

Didn't he explain that he had to go to Hel to get his arm back or something? I think he also said that by that technicality, he's allowed in Valhalla.
I just love how each weapon reflects what Kratos’ memory is upon on the subsequent fights. The Aztec with the blood magic and sacrificing enemies to heal Týr for remembering his pledge to Ares, the kopeshes and blinding effects for Helios, and the katana for Pandora. What a good boss fight.
Well that’s interesting Tyr has a spear and shield, a two handed heavy weapon and two small blades just like kratos’s weapons but the katana that could be foreshadowing something big in the future
Probably referencing the Blade of Olympus, which Kratos can use in this DLC.

@@forrestgumball Game is perfectly made to be honest, love the format! "Death" is just a part of the process...whenever you are defeated, just keep upgrading strength and defence stats...it becomes easy eventually! I just crushed Tyr so easily!

Thor was a reflection of Kratos' past and present self. Týr is a look into Kratos' future.
A nice detail for the macuahuitl to have fire-based attacks, perhaps it’s a reference to Xiucóatl, Huitzilopochtli’s divine weapon (although Xiucóatl is a living weapon in the form of a living fire snake with obsidian blades)
Tyr is something else and the crazy part is it doesn't feel like he's fighting kratos seriously either 😮 this man is straight gas.

All of these fights were so amazing and fun!
Imagine though if there was an optional fifth super boss fight where Tyr swaps between all four of his weapons. Changing up his move sets and using each of their magic’s to keep you on your toes!
This is kind of what i wanted from the two: resolving introspective issues by fighting mindlessly until one yields
I know that people would love for Kratos to go to those places where Tyr got his weapons from, but personally I would love to see Kratos landed on a tropical island/archipelago for the next game.
Would be a nice change from the snowy Norse (ignoring the two lush realms) to island setting where you can see the bright ocean, tropical trees, and stone temples. I don't want it to be Japan tho because of how super well known their mythology is, the same reason why I don't want them to go to Egypt (although, Kratos did find his way to Egypt before in between Greek and Norse).
I prefer something less known such as the Pacific Islands mythology or the Malay archipelago/Nusantara mythology.
Although I'm not going to lie, I'm bias here since I'm from Indonesia and I'd love to see more of Indonesia representation in games, but I don't mind with any other island/archipelago setting since it's always been my favorite and would love to see more of islander myths.
But if he doesn't go to an island setting, then I'm hoping it'd be American mythology. I don't care if it's North or South America, both have really weird and cool mythology that is rarely seen in media. Even if we do see it, they're usually not that in depth.
Something that just occured to me is that while Tyr implies his weapons are legendary, they dont seem to actually be anything out of the ordinary like what Kratos uses. Instead Tyr himself empowers them to pull of the more impressive actions. And honestly i always like that kind of magic. The type thats incorporated into a fighting style.
juding by the way he summons them i wonder if hes utalizing the way vallhala works to materialise memories of the weaponry, probably the same method on how kratos was able to use the blade of olympus

Aztec Macuahuitl - Flaming (Overhead bash)
Egyptian Dual Khopeshes - Light stealing blades (Dashing slice)
Japanese Katana - Freezing swing (imbues blade with frost)
And of course his signature trusty norse spear (with a Greek shield)
THIS is what Tyr really is what a God of War SHOULD be, what I would have loved to see in the main Ragnarok campaign. The best comparison I can make with Tyr is The Doctor from the original series and Doctor Who novels, a peacemaker whenever possible but a skilled and vicious warrior when need be. They would give the enemy every opportunity to stop fighting and go home in peace or resolve things peacefully, and if they did not comply they would be destroyed with brutal efficiency
I love tyr having weapons thay each match one of kratos' weapons.

There is such poetic justice in the writing here in that the first "god of war" Ares traumatized and made an enemy of Kratos. Yet here in a different land, after finding another lands god of war, Tyr offers answers, acceptance, and camaraderie.
Many of the lessons Tyr espouses are applicable even to the real world.
Excusing our actions is not the way to learn from our mistakes, but understanding them.
Our actions do have consequences. Both the bad and the good. We cannot see the outcome of every choice, only hope for the best.
