  • The PSE Stinger X Ready to Shoot package comes with everything you need start practicing besides arrows and a release aid.
    With the help of Shooter's Choice in Waterloo, Canada, I spent some quality time with the Stinger X. This package retails for about $450 US, but a little searching can net you one in the $400 range.
    The accessories themselves are pretty basic, which is to be expected in this price range. The highlight for me is the Whisker Biscuit-style rest, which is a cinch to use.
    The three-pin sight is decent and has clearly visible vertical and horizontal gang adjustment marks. I found the individual pins to be a bit too large. It's not really noticeable at short distances, but once you get out beyond 30 yards the pins cover too much of the target for my liking.
    The peep sight was interesting. It's tied into the string with three connections, rather than the usual two. It will never rotate, which is a good thing. But I found one of the three connections often ran through the middle of the peep while I was at full draw, which is a bit distracting.
    Fit and Finish was quite nice for a bow in this price range. Unlike some other low price-point bows, the Stinger X never felt like anything was loose or would fall apart. It's really well put together.

    I used my Stinger X to take my first deer with a bow this year. I had a complete pass through on a big doe at 30 yards. I couldn't be much happier with it, although my bow has a fall away rest and limbsaver stabilizer and dampeners. These bows have a smooth draw, infinite adjustability, and are quiet. The stnger X was the first bow I bought and I was planning on upgrading but I find it harder to justify buying a more expensive bow when this one just works so well.

      Congrats on your doe! I think better accessories are far more important that getting a flagship bow. Give me a better sight and a longer stabilizer with a few ounces at the end and I'd happily hunt with this bow any time. A bit more speed couldn't hurt, but if you've got a range finder the speed difference becomes much less important.

      jmart2022 i agree. i have shot a stinger for five years, killed 4 deer with it, and always loved it. i also have the Phenom set up as a hunting boe and dont see a difference worth the price range for most hunters. i likw the phenom for its larger size.

      jmart2022 i shot five deer with a stinger 3g. now i have the stinger x. it sure is a whole new bow.

      Jon XVI Do you prefer the new X to the 3G?

    • @wyojohn5213

      ArcheryTalk i really liked the looks of the old stinger 3g. there was something about the one piece parallel limbs i loved the look and feel of. i was quite used to it so it always shot great for me. the new stinger x feels lighter and more balanced. i havent shot it much but it does feel pretty smooth on performance mode. i havent tried the grow with you. i do have alot of respect for the grow with you cam idea. imagine if that was another inner cam adjustment, an adjustment for the draw curve. we could have a bow in the future where you adjust your drae curve and speed just like we now adjust draw length. i liked the looks of the older riser and cam better. but i do likethe all black cam on the x. it feels more like the 2012 evo than the 2012 stinger 3g. it feels like a feather compared to my phenom, but my phenom sits dead still in the hand and doesnt have a single vibration after the shot. the stinger x has a little bit, but i wouldnt have noticed it if i hadnt shot a phenom for three months before the stinger x arrived.

    An excellent bow for the money. I use one. I shoot 20-100 yds. It can be very accurate! You will need to replace the string, and sight. I use a drop down rest. The limbs are the same as used on their 1000.00 bows.

    Good review! I bought the Cabela's exclusive Gobbler RTS model of the PSE Stinger X and I love shooting it. 60 lbs with a dark camo finish for inside a hunting blind (looks cool too). Not only can a new or youth shooter grow into this bow (literally as there is a grow with you setting option on the cam), it also has many advantages for an adult seasoned archer. The adjustable draw weight range and draw length allows the owner to fit this bow really well. The sight is basic and not very bright indoors (upgraded to a TruGlo model with wrapped fibers and rheostat light), the whisker biscuit works but has crude adjustment and had the wrong size disc for my skinny Easton ACC arrows (small disc can be bought for $19), and the stabilizer is just a vibration absorber (I upgraded to an end-weighted 12" stabilizer to steady the aim and forward balance this very light bow). I agree that the valley is short and it can creep on you. The solution is to rotate the module one setting below the draw length. For example, my draw stop is set at "C" for 29 inches, but the module is rotated and set to "D" (which is supposed to be the 28.5" setting). This lengthens the valley and increases let off allowing you to hold and aim much longer if needed, but at the cost of a little speed. This can be made up for by tightening the limb bolts 1/2 turn to increase draw weight a couple of pounds. My center shot is 3/4" and D loop set to 1/4" nock high using bare shaft tuning. Fletched and bare arrows hit the target butt straight and at the same spot at 12 yards. I recommend a TRU Ball Fang 4 handheld release with this bow for back tension style technique. This bow is lighter and easier to set up than my PSE Evolve 31 which cost almost 3 times as much. If you buy this as a bare bow and add quality accessories, it is the best bargain in the industry in my opinion. You could buy several and equip your entire family.

      Where were you when I was shooting this? Wish I could have tried the module rotation when I still had the test bow.

      This modification hack should work on many PSE bows that have an adjustable cam module and a separate draw stop stud. It works great at increasing valley and let off, but I am just going on feel and don't have the equipment to quantitate the changes in the force curve or performance. Aiming is much better with less stress and no fear of forward creep. This hack is not officially endorsed by PSE as far as I know since the manual says the cam and draw stop settings should match. If you mismatched the wrong way (cam on "C" and draw stop shorter on "D") you could end up with a dangerous lack of valley and risk of uncontrolled misfire.

    Mr Archery talk, i saw a moment of the whisker biscuit and the arrow seemed to be fully taking up the diameter of the hole. Is that supposed to be the case, is that a factor in accuracy? I have a pse 2018 stinger ( i think it's a 2018, anyway). My arrow diameter is smaller than that of the biscuit , by a few milimeters and that makes for free play . is this a big deal?

    Just bought one and I'm happy with it overall. But like you said it doesn't quite feel like 75% let off. Otherewise it's great.

      It's a touch on the aggressive side, but it's a very nice bow for the price.

      bimacz If memory serves, they are metal. But I’m not 100% confident. I’ll reach out to PSE to ask.

    At the bow store i shot a mathews mission craze 2 and it was nice but i still preferred the pse it has a longer axel to axel and it was more comfortable to me

      @ArcheryTalkVideo  7 років тому

      I also prefer a long axle-to-axle generally. Haven't shot the Mission Craze 2 yet, so I can't compare. I think the PSE had my favorite grip of any of the package bows we've tested.

    I seem to be having trouble with my peep sight... it sometimes doesn't turn enough, and sometimes turns to much. Any suggestions?

    • @ArcheryTalkVideo
      @ArcheryTalkVideo  6 років тому

      On the Stinger X? I found how that peep was tied in it couldn't help but stay centered. However, if you are having an issue, the easiest fix is to get a peep that comes with some rubber tubing you can tie into one of the cables. They are pretty cheap and do the trick, though this is more of a band-aid solution. Another option is to invest in a good set of aftermarket strings/cables, but that is significantly more expensive than a peep.

      @za9462 6 років тому

      New strings, I have a PSE and the strings broke on me after about 500 shots. The peep after the break in period with aftermarket strings doesn't move at all.

    Sincronized cam?,no problem whit cam timing?

    • @ArcheryTalkVideo
      @ArcheryTalkVideo  7 років тому +3

      I'm not sure you can really synchronize a single cam bow. But I believe the cam in the correct position. However, I was testing four other bows at the same time, so I didn't spend too much time fine tuning any of them. Just made sure the string stop was hitting at the right point made sure D-loop was level with the rest and made sure the rest was positioned properly horizontally so it was hitting center at 20 yards and 50 yards. If this was my personal bow, I'd have spent more time with setup and I'm sure I could have tweaked it enough where it felt better for me.

    Those peeps will rotate. I used them for years.

    • @ArcheryTalkVideo
      @ArcheryTalkVideo  7 років тому

      I much prefer a traditional peep. However, I think the benefit with this one is that even if the string moves over time, the shooter should still be able to see through it. It helps overcome the deficiencies of lesser quality strings.

    • @BradfordStokes
      @BradfordStokes 7 років тому

      yeah, I used them when OEM strings were very poor. They will sometimes rotate to where one of the strings will be sort of in your view. I think you mentioned that in the video. That what what I found annoying about the trio style peeps.

    • @wyojohn5213
      @wyojohn5213 7 років тому

      ArcheryTalk actually string quality has nothing to do with it. theres more allowed rotation in a two way split peep than a three. the advantage of the threeway is the peep is always the same size and shape no matter how the string moves or what angle the shooters at. when your 2 split peep turns to the side or your at a different angle than another shooter it makes the fit on the front sight ring different, and a three way split peep allows more light for hunting.

    • @za9462
      @za9462 6 років тому

      The strings on this bow from the factory suck ass! Bought aftermarket strings after the the peep kept moving and the string broke at the cam. After putting on new strings the peep only moved after 100 shots and has stayed still since.

    Would you say if this bow is good

    • @ArcheryTalkVideo
      @ArcheryTalkVideo  7 років тому +1

      I would say it is a good bow, yes. At this price point ($400 for the complete package in the U.S.) it is a very good value. I like a bow with a bit more valley and the accessories and string/cable could be better, but at this price point that is to be expected.

      what would you say would be a better bow for a new hunter to use for a few years. Bear cruzer, PSE Stinger X or the Diamond Provider? or if theres and even better option at the 400-550 range any tips would be appreciated

    • @ArcheryTalkVideo
      @ArcheryTalkVideo  7 років тому

      The only one of those I've shot is the Stinger X. I did shoot the Diamond Edge SB-1, which I preferred over the Stinger. But I like the accessories on the Stinger slightly more.

    as constructive criticism i really wish you would direct this review to the audience, the buyers of this bow. whining about the size of the pins really isnt fitting, people arent buying this bow for competitive target, and saying the pins are too large for your target prefferences is irrelevant. many people prefer larger pins for white tail hunting, which is what this is clearly geared towards.

    • @ArcheryTalkVideo
      @ArcheryTalkVideo  7 років тому +2

      I appreciate that. It's all personal opinion. I don't like large pins for hunting either, but others will disagree.

    • @wyojohn5213

      ArcheryTalk also, when using a whisker biscuit, the cock vane goes up. the black bristles are stiffer so vanes shouldnt go through them.

    • @wyojohn5213

      more than capable of a pass through? are you kidding? you can put a broadhead through one inch ply wood with that rig. itll pass through a deer like it isnt even there. you sound too much like your trying to sell an expensive bow. i have this bow and a pro series pse. more money doesnt mean more killing capacity. high end bows are just more smooth at the shot, feel more solid with less vibrating. you make it sound like a low end bow can barely make the arrow fly to the target

    • @ArcheryTalkVideo
      @ArcheryTalkVideo  7 років тому

      Sure wasn't my intent. We tested five budget-friendly hunting bows. I just preferred some others over the Stinger.
