    Finally a video that shows me what to do with this thing that came attached to my bow!! I like how you show with your camera looking through it as you would when you use it, explain how to do something and why. I am subbed liked, alarmed and commented as you can see. LOL I have only shot once and I hit the target board, (side of a barn sized thing) but could not find the place where I was supposed to be hitting. Now I know why I don't feel so bad and am ready to have at it again with more confidence. Thank you.

      @@BowOnlyOutdoors I like to see properly setting up out of the box setting up a 3 pin sight. I have seen different videos where one person said that you set up the first pin by moving the sight box and then you set the middle pin by moving the pin. Someone else said that you move the sight box for the top and middle pin. Also before you set up your sights, should make sure that your rest is setup properly? Thanks for asking me. I believe you can easily clarify these questions through a video.

    Do you first focus on the pin just to make sure it’s on the bull then shift focus to the target without moving? I’m brand new to this so I know the bow itself is better than me because they all hit within 6” at 30yards haha it’s hard to miss a 6” circle w a compound bow but I’d rather get 1” groups thanks

    • @BowOnlyOutdoors
      @BowOnlyOutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      I see the pin enough that I don’t have to focus on it to see it cover the object I want to hit. As humans, we naturally center things so it’s easy for our subconscious to superimpose our pin on what we are aiming at without intentionally focusing on it.
      With that said, I fully understand the desire to continually improve. If you want to shoot 1” groups at 30 yards and do it consistently as I new shooter, I highly recommend learning how to shoot with surprise release execution. Follow the walk back steps in the video “the process- how to learn how to shoot with backtension” video and you will be off to a great start!

    Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older.But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

      I guess rifle shooting and bow shooting are different because in the marines I was instructed to focus always on the sight to make sure proper sight alignment was achieved.

    • @Pretzulkj
      @Pretzulkj 3 роки тому

      @@traningday For rifles and handguns you generally want to focus on the front sight because you need to align the front and rear sights correctly. This reduces aiming precision because the target is no longer clearly visible, but this is usually compensated for with aiming techniques like the pumpkin on a post sight picture. You can't accurately aim a black sight post into the middle of a fuzzy black dot, but you can easily put your sight post at the very bottom edge of that fuzzy black dot.
      For bows and shotguns the rear sight is your eyeball. The sights are aligned so long as your gun mount or anchor points are correct. This means you can focus on the target for better precision, and aim directly where you want the shot to go. You don't need tricks like the 6 o'clock hold to increase precision when the target is blurry.

      If you can keep both eyes open and see the target clearly, I would encourage you to do that. If it doesn’t seem to help, a peep with a clarifier will help bring the target in focus. It may take some trial and error to determine which clarifier you may need. Also, if your current peep sight is too big, and even if it is to small, it can make it harder to focus on the target. Make sure your peep sight fits flush around the ring on the sight housing.

    I agree with him a hundred percent up until the target is at a 100 yards. Than those pins come into action. For some it could even range closer than that.

    I think its verry interesting what opinions all the different shooters have. On a pistol you focus on the sights on a rifle you should focus on the target on a bow with some sort of aiming device most poeple say you should focus on the pin. Now you say focus on the target witch i have to do anyways because i shoot classic intuitive. My rule of thumb is the one that hits the target is right. So if you dont hit it you just havent found your style. I noticed to if i shoot rifle im much more calm maybe its because i dont see the movement of the rifle that much.

      @BowOnlyOutdoors  3 роки тому +1

      Absolutely. It’s your perception of the sight and the target and what you’re comfortable with. Most archers find it most comfortable with this method because of the extra movement, but not everyone is the same.

    Same concept as hovering a helicopter. When first learning, it’s natural to stare 10 feet in front of the aircraft and it’s virtually impossible to control and over correcting will happen. Starting at the horizon calms and allows sub conscious to make much more precise and calm inputs.

    Hey Josh, do you have any tips for applying this for pin gap shooting? Let's say my 1st pin is 20 yards and 2nd pin is 30 yards. The target is at 28 yards. So I'll be using my 2nd pin but still focusing at the target.

    • @BowOnlyOutdoors
      @BowOnlyOutdoors  7 місяців тому

      Hey there! Try picking a spot low on the target of where you want to hit for your 30 yard pin to focus on. So on a 3D target for example I would put my 30 yard pin somewhere in the bottom of the 10 ring beneath the center x ring. For something closer to 25 yards between my 20 and 30 yard pin, I’m splitting the pins evenly and looking through the gap down the middle. Hope this helps!

    Question are you keeping both eyes open when focusing on the target?

  • @satellitehunter7440
    @satellitehunter7440 2 роки тому

    So let me ask this……if I’m farsighted (my pins are fuzzy even if I try to focus on them 😂) don’t use a verifier? And only focus on the target? I ask this because I’m really struggling as my eyes have lost the ability to see clearly up close and using a verifier isn’t helping, Because unfortunately it gives me double vision and the results are as expected some hit left some hit right. I feel like my issues with a verifier validate what you are saying as I can see pins clearly but the end result is poor shot execution.

    • @BowOnlyOutdoors
      @BowOnlyOutdoors  2 роки тому

      You want to be able to see the target clearly no matter what. It’s ok if your pins are blurry, but if you can’t see them at all, a verifier may be needed. I can’t speak to seeing double while using a verifier as I haven’t experienced it myself while using one.

    So, just for clarification. You are saying that when you are looking through the peep, don't look at the pins, just look at the spot on the target? How can you hit the target without using the pins? I'm confused.

    • @BowOnlyOutdoors
      @BowOnlyOutdoors  3 роки тому

      You’re looking through your pins at the clear target that’s in focus. You still see your pins, they just aren’t as clear as the target you’re focusing on.

  • @darkeningone
    @darkeningone 3 роки тому

    Question, please anyone feel free to answer.. if your shooting at a target 50yards away do you put your 50yard pin on the target and draw back then move your head to the string or get in your form, draw back to your anchor point and move your body to the target? Because if I get in my stance, point at the target with the right pin and draw back at 50yards my peep and anchor point is off and I have to move my head. The reason I’m asking is because everything I’ve heard says don’t come from the top or bottom to the target with the pin

    • @BowOnlyOutdoors
      @BowOnlyOutdoors  2 роки тому +1

      The pin should be on target once you come into your peep and anchor, but not during your draw cycle. During the draw cycle, it’s best to start with the bow slightly high to set your shoulders.

    Actually there your eye focuses on the front sight and goes to the target and focuses. This happens back and forth automatically. The top shooters in the world focus more on the front sight. Instead of “punching” the trigger it should be a slow and steady pull while the pin is gently moving around your intended aiming spot on the target. This is called wobble area. Reducing this wobble area is why a person practices. The best shooters have very small wobble areas, squeeze the trigger while your main focus is the front sight. Trigger squeeze is first and foremost the most important aspect of any great shot. Thanks for your time.
    Tim

      Hello Tim, Thank you for your comment! I agree, release execution is first and foremost the most important aspect of any great shot! I have several videos on learning this process with all types of mechanical release aids in our Learn Archery Series. This aiming technique helps reduce the anxiety felt in the shot, and is very important to coincide with the proper release execution. Everyones eyes are different, and I realize this method doesn't work for everyone, but the majority of archers out there have seen this as a major benefit. Nothing is fool proof, but everything is worth giving a try to be the best you can be! Thanks, Josh

      Tim Jackson - you are 100% correct. The fundamentals of marksmanship apply to aiming any device with a front sight pin and rear sight aperture. Having spent 20 years in the Marine Corps, and qualifying as "expert" with both pistol and rifle throughout the entirety of my career, "focus on the clear tip of the front sight post" is one fundamental that is forever cemented in my mind. You are correct- focus goes back and forth when aligning, but then shifts to clear tip of the front sight post/pin when its time to execute. This is the only way to shoot accurately with open sights at distance out to 500 yards. The pin will be off-target with focus of the target and not the pin, and will result in points of impact that "surround" the intended point of aim. Although one may think they are focusing on the target and not the pin, if the eye is aligning the pin over the intended point of impact because the eye has to focus on it. It narrows the margin of error. At 20 yards you can get away with the concept of focusing more on the target. At, 30 and 40, not so much. At 50 and 60, hang it up. This is a proven, well-researched marksmanship principle.

      @@In-The-Wild-Outdoors THIS!!! Semper Fi brother! When I picked up my compound, I just assumed I’d use the same fundamentals that I used and taught in the Corps (PMI). I mean it earned me medals in both rifle and pistol eventually going distinguished on rifle (need 3 more points for pistol), so why not? Natural point of aim (keeps you in the wobble area), sight alignment, sight picture, gnats ass on the front sight post, smooth steady pull straight to the rear, I concentrated so intently on my shot process that the shot breaking surprised me a majority of the time. Through practice and this process, shot anxiety disappeared, wobble area got smaller, & my off hand became as good as any other position as well.
      All that said, you already know I raised an eyebrow when I saw this video, but I’m still going to try it the next time I go to the bow range. (In Japan so can only shoot on ranges). I plan on competing 18m indoor here so at that range this might work? I’ll try anything if it improves me. I currently shoot consistent 3” groups @ 18m. So if this works, I’ll have my AJAF green star badge in no time! (Many ranges here in Japan request at least this to use their facilities).
      I imagine trying to reverse all those years of muscle memory is gonna be a real ball ache.
      I’m just relieved that I wasn’t the only one that had my reaction.

    It's like driving and why so many cops get hit on traffic stops. People looking at a pulled over driver end up steering to where they're looking instinctually.
    You movements follows what you're focusing on and targets don't move, but pins do.
    Thanks for the tip. I'll try it on my next practice.
