I have a torn ACL and I have tried several knee braces now to find a pair I feel good with. I've tried Pod K4, Mobius X8, Alpinestars Fluid pro and the Asterisk Ultra cell. The Mobius just were to bulky for me. Since I have kind of big legs they just didn't feel good. I almost couldn't get my pants on with them. Unfortunately the Pod K4 didn't fit me so well. The M/L didn't really wrap around my knee, they didn't line up with the side of my knees. And with the larger size XL/XXL they lined up better but didn't snug around my knee enough to feel secure, even with the extra pads they come with. I tried the K8 (which has more sizing options) aswell, but without any better results. The Alpinestars Fluid pro actually was really comfortable and as Chase mention really low profile. The reason I did not keep them was that I felt that they were to flimsy compared to all the other braces I tried. They just didn't feel safe enough. I have not tried the carbon version of it though, maybe those are more rigid. Asterisk is the brace that I've kept and use now. Those are the ones I felt most safe using. They feel really strong and stable and fits me well. The downside with them is that they feel kind of heavy. I have the "Ultra cell" version with the "boa system" straps. I would consider the simpler version "Cell" due to get the brace more low profile. Since I have big calves I have some problem to fit the braces underneath my boots (tech 7 fyi), but it is acceptable. The strap design with "Ultra cell" is really handy and simple to use though. Just wanted to share my experience. And again, I have kind of big legs and big calves. So the issues I had maybe won't apply to you.
That is really good feedback. Thank you for sharing that. I just told someone about the Astars and how they felt a little "flimsy" compared to other braces. I'm sure a lot of people will find this helpful. I've been using the new K8 for a while now and I've actually been really happy with them, but like you said, everyone is different on fit and sizing. Glad you found the Asterisk and a brace you're happy with. Have fun out there!-Chase
I also found that the k8 hinge sits too far forward on my knee. The brace/hinge itself just sits barely past my knee cap, my old troy lee braces had a 5th strap that allowed for adjustment of I guess what you would call the depth of the brace, or how far it fits over your knee which I really liked. I may have to try the asterisks
I was just riding at LACR I hyperextended my knee and tore my ACL & MCL in two and now I have to get knee surgery. I was wearing mobius x8’s I loved they way they fit and how easy they are to get on and stay in the right place, but there’s no lock out or stop, wish I would have known that I would way rather spend the money on protection then spending the next 6-9 months in surgery and PT.

I broke a Cti2 and limped away with a slight tear in my meniscus! I went hard into a deep rutted corner and got my foot jambed into another rut which started pulling me off the back of the bike and twisting the throttle. It looped out on top of my leg and broke the brace. Imagine what my knee would have looked like without one on. Worth every penny my insurance paid for them, and Cti repaired the brace for free! Can`t beat that!

Just a word of caution. The Mobius are fantastic but you'll need to ensure sufficient room in your pant. I'm 5'11", wear a medium in the Mobius and wear Klim Mojave pants. The Mobius is tight in these pants and I have to switch up the pants when wearing the brace. Awesome brace just make sure there's room for it in your chosen pant.
if you have torn an ACL,MCL will any of these braces offer you protection so i can ride again with some support enough the knee doesn’t give out in the event of a side to side motion where the knee is weak ?
Hey guys. I ended up buying some Pod K8’s to replace my Asterisk Ultra Cells, but they are going back tomorrow. Why? They were the right size, but the Asterisks just fit my legs better, and therefore stay in place without having to crank on the straps like a gorilla. While having both sets, I was able to compare them directly with one another. The pods are very simple in design, lighter and definitely less bulky than the Asterisks...but not by as much as expected. I was very surprised that the PODs are just as restrictive as the Asterisk. In the end the pods weren’t the brace I was looking for. I find the asterisk are far more technologically developed. The hinge has mechanical lock outs that are adjustable with an Allen key, the strap system has boa, the safety features are plentiful and fitment system is more customisable. I did initially have some issues with rubbing but took another look at the various adjustments in the Asterisks, and managed to get them to conform even better than they ever have and managed to fix the issues. Overall, I’m really stoked with my Asterisk and will definitely buy again once these wear out/break....but based on how well they have help up so far (about 4 years), it seems that day may never come 🙂
So I’m thinking about getting some I just had my first bad crash and banged up my knee and I was wearing knee pads didn’t really help but I not sure witch to get
Been using Alpinestars Fluid pro and wow they are comfortable when they are dialed in, feather light and barely noticeable, very slim design, but like i read from another comment they feel a bit flimsy, kind of a knee guard feeling to them less af a rigid brace. I will be replacing the A-stars in 6-12 months hopfully after recovery from tibial acl fracture and torn mcl/pcl, surgery in a few days. I love the fluid pro, but since i will be needing more support/rigidness in the future i will go with mobius, cti or asterix.
The new pod k8 2.0 or k4 2.0 are worth a look as well. Been using the K8 for almost a year and they've been really good. Great durability and comfortable. -Chase
I have run the carbon Alpinestars for about 3 years and overall like them. They're light weight and low profile. I've only had two issues with them. One the carbon cracked on both knee braces on my first good crash. They were only about 3 months old. I called Alpinestars and asked about a warranty and sent them pictures, they said they don't warranty items that have been in a crash. In my opinion the force wasn't that bad and they shouldn't have cracked. Over time the cracks got worse and eventually completely broke through and other cracks appeared. I would not buy them again for this reason. Also the velcro straps stick to my pant legs went putting my pants on and get bunched up.
i’m trying to get my insurance to buy me knee braces. i’m told only pod or leatt make a certified set. between the both which would offer the best support for someone who’s had slight tears in knee before ? please any help would be great.
What do you recommend for sport bike riders, adventure riders and naked street bike enthusiasts? I enjoy a spirited ride like everyone, but would also like to save a few bucks. I always wear a forcefield chest (CE 1) and back protector (CE 2), but nothing on my legs/knees. Suggestions would be appreciated... 🙂
In the market now, after tearing my acl/mcl during my last race. I've asked the race community and so far cti is the "best" then a bunch are also saying mobius, a few have said asterisk and pods. My knees are way more important than any dollar amount so my question is which brace provides the best protection? I know I'm opening a can of worms and I'd like to try some of them on before making my decision, but that's hard to do when there isnt anyone in the area that stocks any.
I just hyperextended my right knee and completely tore my ACl mcl in two in the möbius x8’s notice how they don’t mention anything about having a a lock out... yeah don’t get them!
The asterisk knees brace looks like they would be super comfortable. But I have bigger claves and they seem like they are pretty bulky. I’ve tried the evs pros and I had the same problem. They also kept sliding down on me but I’m sure with that new elastic strap that would fix that problem. The pod k8 seem like they’d work pretty well for me. Would appreciate any input.
There may be a way to get this once you have a injury, but having tried multiple ways i will tell you that most all insurances have specific braces they want you to wear, and if you try talking to a Dr. or physical therapist they will look at this brace and you in a way that makes you feel like you wasted their time.
You failed not having the Troy Lee Designs brace!!! They have the only one with extension and flexion lock out. There strap system is also super good, I have had Leatt and Asterisk and the TLD is bomber, light weight, super adjustable and stays in place all day.
If I were choosing between these three the POD K4 2.0 and the Asterisk Carbon cell would be my top two. I've had both and really liked them. The K4 is hard to beat with the price but I love how light and low profile the Carbon Cell is. - Chase

@@rmatvmc Considering the Astars Bionic-7 or Bionic-10 because of the low profile and low weight. Don't the straps cut off your blood circulation? Seems like a conflict of interests between proper fit and not over tightening too much. Please explain.
Alex, i've ridden in 3 of the braces in this guide and I've never had an issue with blood circulation. I don't even know if you could tighten down enough to do that. Maybe i'm wrong, but that's my experience-Chase
@@rmatvmc ok thanks, but do they feel tight when fitted properly? (Maybe not to the point of actually cutting off the circulation). Even straps on regular knee pads can be tight and uncomfortable. Thank you
*Alex A.* they fit like a glove when fitted properly. Knee brace sleeves or knee brace socks can definitely help the knee brace feel a lot more comfortable when wearing them. I wouldn't worry about the straps or pads being to tight as long as you measure you knee specified in the sizing chart. Thanks for watching!
I would buy POD with boa straps...when i had POD i didnt like that they dont stay in place, when i had asterisk i wished they were lighter and less bulky... Injured my knee wearing both though
I love the knee brace comparison. Now all you have to do is tell companies like Fox to make their pants big enough to fit over braces. Over the last 6 years they have started making their pants so tight fitting only hipsters can make them work. Bloody useless
Ray Man. Been riding long bud? Ever seen a motocross rider or enduro rider or any rider for that matter wear a knee brace over their pants? I think not. Good braces are expensive and you definitely don’t want them ruined by rocks and debris not to mention the brace getting hooked up on something and taking your leg off. Put simply they are made to fit as close to the skin as possible to offer the most protection. How about next time you do a little research before you go making stupid, uneducated responses to people’s legitimate comments.
@Ray Man ^ that. Also, the macho "I'm not trying to win a fashion show" comments are getting really old. I just don't believe anyone who says that. I think anyone who says that is just projecting how they wish they felt. Even the stereotypical dad in baggy Costco jeans and New Balance shoes cares about their appearance to some extent. No one wants to look ridiculous and be the subject of mockery.

No, you don't HAVE to wear them. Many riders just prefer the added support and protection for the knee. There are plenty of knee guards that offer good impact protection, but as for support and protection against hyper extension and side to side, knee brace is the best option.-Chase

I have a kneebrace mobius and they are comfortable and safe
I love the knee brace comparison. Now all you have to do is tell companies like Fox to make their pants big enough to fit over braces. Over the last 6 years they have started making their pants so tight fitting only hipsters can make them work. Bloody useless
Does anyone wear them over pants? I have been wearing Leatt Dual-Axis knee/shin guards over Klim Mojave ITB pants for years.
@@johnganter7352 wearing knee braces over pants I think would probably make them not work as well, due to not being fit against your leg properly
Try to get a size or two over your regular size pants.
Anyone one have any experience with CTI OTC and how they compare to these braces . (Not the custom ones) PLEASE HELP!
OSSUR is discontinuing their CTI OTS brace, as it was too heavy and hadn't changed in 13 years. They approached POD about distributing their Human Motion Hinge Technology in the Medical Channel and the OSSUR CTi Mission brace was born - www.ossur.com/en-us/bracing-and-supports/knee/cti-mission
No Leatt C-frame?
they replaced it with X-frame as commercial purpose, i guess
C frame is a single hinge brace therefor doesnt protect knee bend to sides. This is a list of best ones.
What size POD does Chase wear?
I wear a size large-Chase
Ultra cell has only one size right?
No, the actually offer them in four different sizes.
Do u need to wear knee braces?
No, you don't HAVE to wear them. Many riders just prefer the added support and protection for the knee. There are plenty of knee guards that offer good impact protection, but as for support and protection against hyper extension and side to side, knee brace is the best option.-Chase
Rocky Mountain ATV MC I ride motocross do you think I need them?
@@zerzxim6915 yes. If I could go back in time I would purchase the braces before the bike.
I fell off at 20mph once. Blew both my knees out. Then again I'm one of those idiots who naturally try to land on their feet. If you're more of a slider you might be alright without. If you can afford it, it's foolish not to get them.
At 40 I went down low side at a fairly low speed. Tore the MCL and ACL a little. MCL healed but ACL I just have to live with. After 6 months I am 90% healed. Can’t say a brace is a sure fire fix but I will get some before riding again.
Are these supposed to tuck into the boots?
yes
I don’t like my EVS Axis Sport knee braces... way too bulky. Anyone have Leatt X-Frame knee braces: how do they feel? Are they low profile?
I have the 2019 Fox Airline Pant and my EVS Axis Sport knee braces don’t fit properly in them..
The Mobius, Alpinestars, and POD K8 V2 are all pretty low profile. I've worn all three-Chase
$450 is the cheapest one that's what I spent on my f****** x-rays and I tripped cross in the Street😡
jeez. Where do you live that x-rays cost you that much??? 80 bucks at urgent care
Manufacturers are like , we know they need this and have no other option when it comes to safety , let's mark it up $500 even though it costs us $25 to make 😂🤣🤣🤣 I'll still buy ,for the same reason safety
BIKER DUDE ur probably talking about the carbon fiber ones that are 500 bucks but that’s becuz the cost a shit ton to make cuz it’s fkn carbon fiber and yea duh they mark it up a decent amount becuz they want fkn money who wouldnt
@@wyatts9646 i ended up buying the leatt x frame knee braces
What's sad is youll spend more on the hospital visit than you'll ever save through insurance.
Those are knee guards not braces
I will never go for EVS very fragile product. Extremely bad service too.I will go for asterisk.
"Damper".
Google adds work by taking what’s being viewed near you then it sends it on your home page and that’s how a video goes on recommenced it’s like a forest fire it’s just a bunch of people watching the same clip being sent through different “neighbors” and then it hit your device.-google rep..
The Leatt x is good buts its new younger brother the Z Frame has a major flaw. Watch in this video and judge for yourself. ua-cam.com/video/SgtUkBJuL3w/v-deo.html
Them things are way to expensive
lol for real! When I heard "this is the least expensive in our line up at $450..." I noped that play button
Expensive until you rupture your acl or mcl then have a $20k surgery bill.
@@chrishughes8697 the thing is i pay absolutely nothing for surgery...
@@jonaskonrad so you would rather pay nothing for surgery and have a fucked up knee and have to wear a brace anyways rather than just buy the knee brace before it happens?? XD seems logical.
You only get one set of knees bro
Braces don't work.
"Actually"
Wayyyyy tooo expensive
I'm Surry but these things are all way overpriced in my opinion. Maybe not the carbon fiber ones but the non carbon ones. Definitely. No reason for them to be so many hundreds of dollars each. Just crazy. Sadly i most likely will still buya pair but not sure which. May see what a doctor can do for me
Way too expensive
Worth every penny .If you have ever torn a ligament in your knee you would understand.
Yeah PCL, MCL and ACL damage. MCL tore but healed. The rest I have to live with. Surgery is a bit overkill. But I wish I had braces on pre wreck at 40 years old
@@downhilljedi 90% of fun riders dont have 500 life savings, thats the reality. :( and are still a silly price compared to manufacturing costs
"$450 makes this the least expensive knee brace in the lineup"
yeah ok make, I think SS will have to take one for the team next time I fall
Knee reconstruction is not cheap. 10k+
