I have hundreds of hours on the Cell 1 and the x8, the x8 is really good impact protection and less rear knee pit skin irritation, but it's not as good a lateral and twist protection as the Asterisk. This was helpful in evaluating my next set of braces, thank you Chase.

Bought the Asterisk Carbon Cell 1 and will not ride without them now. First knee brace for me, can't believe the comfort and bike control I get with these. They already paid for themselves after I bounced off a couple of trees and only got water on 1 knee, not sure if it was the impact or it twisted. Thanks for showing the tether hook up, I gotta do mine that way.

Regarding the Asterisk strap that you attach to your boot, that strap only protects from rotation in one direction, not from both directions. Am I thinking about this correctly? Should there be a strap going the other way to protect against rotation in the other direction? Thanks and great video!

Hi! I have used Mobius X8 for 3 years/120h of them. My worst hit on these was when dropped to 10m long/1,5m deep cravel hole doing 70 Km/h, I hit my knees against handelbars and from there to edge of that hard gravel hole. Not to mention in forest dropping on rocks and logs etc, they have offered wery good protection always, but in long days in forest, they seem to come loose sometimes and sink lower. So in search of something new, I tryed Alpinestar Bionic 7 model (wery light indeed), and I discoverd( kneeling on hardfloor)-that in Mobius, my knee is really far and strongly protected, while in Alpinestar Bionic 7, my knee was pressing directly to the knee cup protection ribs and it directly to the floor- no real patella protection-the hit will gome directly to patella-in best it just keeps your pants away..The ventilation is better, but it seems to be designed to ride in very hot climate in sand(not on rocks!) maybe... In Mobius X8, the hit is diverted around your leg in wide area, and the patella cover is really strong, and the whole front of the knee brace is one big strong (but soft from inside) area. This has made me thinking, that while Mobius sometimes feels bulky to walk, they seem to have best protection designs against hitting something hard of all of them-since all the other braces seems to focus on knee twisting protection, and protection of direct hit itsef is secondary? Can you drop(!) on your knees on hardfloor(simulating hit on knee while been thrown of the bike) on those other braces for example? Also Leatt, Asterisk, Pod, Cti braces(+mx cover) ets, they all use sometype type patella cover- can their patella cover offer protection on patella impact(And I mean not like with a soft sunflower, but with like nice Ford Fiesta)?

To be hones with you, I don't know if a video like that is really needed. All gear manufacturers design their pants to be worn with knee guards or knee braces under them. I've ridden in just about every brand of pants we carry with knee braces on and it's never really been an issue for me. The ONLY pant I"ve ever thought needed more stretch around the knee was the O'neal airwear pants. - Chase

READ BOFORE YOU BUY ULTRA CELL 3.0!
I have bought the ultra cell 3.0. The quality is great! but what really disappoints me is that you can't extend your leg fully, at all!. I know it's not good to have your leg fully extended in a crash, but not having the ability to adjust the range to be able to extend your leg, is pretty disappointing. And yes I have adjusted the adjuster to full extend.. and the amount of adjustment you have to make your leg bend more is just way too much, the max anti-extend setting seems way exaggerated. The adjustment is achieved by lengthening or shortening a small cord. What I'm speculating is that they have made a mistake by the manufacture, making this cord/String too short!

Went and looked at the bionic 7 and 10 and a set of Pod K4s. I went to my local shop in NZ that stocked Knee braces and I was less than impressed. All of these Knee braces are obscenely expensive. AND they are poorly thought out and poorly constructed for the money. I did stunts for 20 years (look me up if you don't believe me) and have worn all kinds of body armor and pads etc. I figured after all this time pads and armour would have significantly improved it hasn't. ANYWAY back to the knee braces. The Bionic 7s (in Medium) were tight around the knee and the hinge would be digging into you all day, especially if you were gripping the tank. The straps were barely long enough to do up and there is barely any velcro to hold the straps in place. AlpineStars have really stinged out on this as well as providing almost no padding. The lack of padding means all the hard edges of the brace and the buckles cut into your skin. The Bionic 10s in large (which I tried in case medium was the wrong size), have the same crap velcro. The straps on the large are way too long to get a really tight fit (padding seemed slightly better, but was still inadequate). Ultimately you float in these, so they provide no support. I also tried the Pod K4s - these were superior in almost every way to the Alpine stars, However, they still provided NO support. None of these braces (in my opinion) will prevent hyperextension of your knee or any real protection from twisting. In the shop moving my leg around it was VERY easy to hyperextend my knee and twist my knee around. They will not prevent crush damage either because they are just not that rigid. Additionally, the hinges will crush in on the sides of your knee causing extreme pain, if not significant damage. I will not be buying braces. If you are considering buying braces, make sure you buy them in a shop and have tried them on and you have had a good think about it. Basically, I think they are an expensive gimmick, poorly designed for comfort and protection. I believe they have been designed to look cool, to entice people to buy them. Don't get me started on the Alpinestar body armor I just bought (Poorly sized) and also badly designed. They'll probably afford a tiny amount of protection, but not much I think.

I'm 58 and still riding because I invested in a good at the time set of braces. I tried riding without them because I hate the bulk of my old style Webb braces. Felt awesome riding without untill 2 days later when out on a walk and my knee went out. It's up to the rider to make sure they fit correctly and are adjusted properly. I agree the makers may cut corners and ad gimmick tech for marketing and profit that pure medical custom braces do not. But if like me you love to ride and walk and have a 50% greater chance of not injuring your knees in your next crash they are an essential investment.

@@VFRCapBob Yep, each to their own. You have to make your own decision, and I respect your right to wear them. They aren't for me. I couldn't find a pair that fit properly, were comfortable, or provided any definite benefits in terms of protection. Maybe in another 10 years if they design some that work properly AND don't cost 3 times what they should.

These knee braces are such a joke they're cumbersome in number one they are very uncomfortable to where they come off really they should just make a hole suit of armor all in one kind of like Iron Man but plastic
