I would also like to add that the bag comes with a lifetime guarantee. My husband had to send in his GR1. They couldn't fix it so they sent a completely new GR1. Great American made company.
+michele willis That's true. The Scars program is awesome, unfortunately I'm not too sure how easy it would be for someone outside of USA. If I send the bag over to USA from Germany and get it back, it will definitely go through customs. Depending on the damage you would always need to evaluate if all the hassle with shipping and customs plus all the fees is worth it. But if you are in USA the scars program is awesome.
I like the upfront honesty of the review. I'm really glad you didn't go on about how perfect the GoRuck bag is. My 5.11 72hr has worked very well on countless trips but I'm sure a GoRuck would do well too.
I've owned the GR0 for a few months. Great bag, amazing company. I will add that these bags are meant to be used in terrible environments, be it war or the Goruck Challenge. This is why they don't have a ventilated padded back. Those areas collect dirt and muck. Yes, it does induce a bit of perspiration. Lifetime guarantee is amazing.
+Adam Heckman Hey Adam. Thanks for the insight! I was aware of the Goruck Challenge, but wasn't aware that that is the reason for the missing back ventilation. But even a small ventilation like on the Rush12 wouldn't collect that much dirt that it would be annoying for a challenge, would it?
+Bo Ismono Hi Bo, I really like your review. Just to answer your question about dirt/mud in a Goruck Challenge. Sometimes we are completely submerged in water or muddy pool. And those ventilation can become a b--tch to clean. I had a 5.11 Moab 10, and I'd have to baby it a bit more than my Goruck or ILBE Assault pack (also no ventilation panels) in muddy environment. Hope that helps.
+farlandsaga I see. That makes totally sense. Thanks for clearing that up. I really need to do a challenge one day. Closest thing to a Goruck challenge is the toughmudder that I do every year.
Good video man. I also used the rush 12 for probably 4 years before getting my GR1. I don't regret the purchase at all. I got mine to add another exercise opportunity. I also bought the 30 pound rucking plate. This is when the bag really shows it's strength. It was made to carry weight comfortably.
Hey Steve, I see that we think alike ;-) Nice to meet you, mate. I also wanted a rucking plate, but shipping is just way too expensive. I might make one myself.
Bo's beautifully made video was the stimulus for me to purchase a GR1, Bullet, GR1 Field Pocket, Echo Field Pocket, and a couple of other accessories five months ago. I use the Bullet as a true EDC bag, have built the GR1 Field Pocket into a robust (and very costly) urban and wilderness survival module, have gifted my sternum strap to a GR2 owner, and have used the GR1 for travel and a GORUCK event. Great quality gear. I do have the simple side pocket, which seems generally useless, and the water bottle pocket I keep a Klean Kanteen and nesting cup housed in (in a closet lol). In hindsight, I'd rather have the GR0 instead of the GR1. All of my items are in black, and they all look very sharp. I have a ghosted, PVC American flag purchased from a different supplier on both bags, and they look great outstanding.
I want to try other bags but I cant think of anything better then my rush series packs. They offer so much storage potential over other set ups. Plus their price is fantastic.
The other night I wanted to see what a GR1 would convert too in Australian dollars with postage . I was blown away when the number landed at $700AUD!!! That’s 2 x Wandrd Prvke 31L bags and $100 left over .. the other issue with me is ; I do want a quality design but do I really want a backpack to last me for the rest of my life ? Who even knows if the style or look of the bag will be in , in the next 5-10 years . The thing is ; I’d rather have 3 dope bags for $700 , than just the one . As great as these bags seem , rotation is very important for me . I just went to Thailand for 10 days with a $30 duffle and it was fantastic . Very lightweight , can fold into itself and did what a bags supposed to do . Anyway, great review mate .. maybe one day I’ll succumb to goruck ? Time will tell .. ✌🏼
Hi Bo, I wonder to share something with it as this is the only communication way I have with you. I have the GR1 and I bought it because of your so good videos and opinions and I´m very happy with it and shadow bags. What I want to share with you is something I´ve asked Goruck to remove from its website two times already. My GR1 with light rain gets wet inside but if you go to Goruck you can read the following: Rainproof By military-spec submersion tests, waterproof means you could repeatedly submerge something and its contents would stay entirely dry. Our rucks are highly water resistant aka rainproof. As that´s not true and Goruck agrees it´s not true and that´s why they sell dry bags. I love your videos as I´ve always told you. Thank you Kind regards
Hey Oscar, I'm happy that my video helped you in your purchase decision. As far as weatherproofing and water resistance on bags goes: in my experience there is no backpack, that will be 100% water proof. Heavy rain will get through zippers or seams eventually. Probably the best solution is a raincover or an umbrella (which is what I do in the city ;) ) Most backpacks have pretty good water resistant fabric to begin with, but in my experience long exposure to heavy rain will get to every bag to some degree. In Hamburg we have a lot of rain, but I personally do not expose any bag to a heavy rain storm as I carry a lot of expensive equipment inside the bag. And one of my regular items in my bag is an umbrella. But for normal rain most of the bags I use have good weather resistant fabrics and zippers and hold up to a certain degree. But a monsoon rain like in Indonesia for instance will be tough on any bag if exposed to it for a longer period of time. And regarding the statement on Goruck's website: I agree with you. The way they wrote that segment is kind of confusing. As far as I read or understand that segment, I would say that they first try to define "waterproofness" and then state that their bag is just "water resistant". The Goruck bags or rather the material is water resistant, but as I said above water will get through zippers or seams eventually, which is why the bag is not waterproof. There is a lot of confusion about those two terms online. Therefore I think the way Goruck worded that segment can be confusing IMHO. I hope that helped a bit.
Hi Bo, thanks as always your help is much appreciated, I'm agree with you what happens with heavy rain, but in fact what I was taking about was with very light rain and I stated the reason wasn't the zipper as for instance in the front pocket I had my wallet and some papers, that got wet with very light rain for short period of time. I stated that the water enter the front pocket through the fabric (abb) not the zipper. I told exactly what happen to Goruck and they agree that even with light rain it happens and they told me that what they said at website it's not real and that they were going to ask marketing to change it. For me it will be perfect if Goruck sells a GR1 rain cover but in fact there are only dry bags but not rain cover. Anyway I want to state that I have 1000 euros in Goruck items ad I'm absolutely very happy with Goruck. And I forgot to say I big thank you to Bo for explaining modular edc and modular traveling. Bo you make life easier with every video you post. It's much appreciated. Kind regards
Oh wow. Thank you very much for those very kind words. I'm flattered. I hope you will continue to like my videos. And thanks for clearing that up. That's good to know, that Goruck is going to change that statement on their site. I just started riding a motorcycle. And most of the gear is supposed to be sprayed with this impregnating / water proofing spray. This spray is also used for shoes for instance. And I just started spraying most of my bags with that stuff as well as it helps quite a lot to a) improve water resistance and b) keeps dirt away from your shoes and therefore bags as well. I just started using it, maybe you could try it out as well. Cheers, mate!
Wondering what's the best backpack for motorcycle rider in term of rain-proof? Was riding with a issionM Workshop R6 and chrome URBAN EX ROLLTOP 18 both works great for rain-proofing but I looking for better shoulder strap support than R6 and wider space compare to Ex Rolltop 18... Plan to buy a Goruck and I saw this comments......
+Kevin Marma I'm currently in the process to get my motorcycle driver's license. As soon as I have it I will review some motorbike bags. IN regards to water resistance : inmy experience there is no backpack, that will be 100% water proof. There are of course 100% water proof bags like drysacks etc. But with "regular backpacks" and important equipment I would always take some extra precautions if I know that I could get into heavy rain on my motorbike. But a laptop in a dry sack and the dry sack onto your bag. But as I said, as soon as I have my license I will test some specific motorbike bags and I will try to see if they are waterproof
Hey, Bo! For the past week or so, I’ve been trying to decide on what backpack to get for EDC (work, leisure, and travel). Yesterday, I managed to narrow it down to the Defy Bucktown bag, a MW Sanction bag, and a Goruck gr1 bag. Today, after watching this amazing review, I believe I’ve settled for the gr1. What remains now is to decide between the 21L or the 26L, and I’m thinking it would be best to refer to your better judgment. For reference, I’m 1.76m tall and weigh just over 80kg. I don’t want an abnormally large bag, but it has to be big enough to carry 2 or 3 packing cubes with some clothes and a few valuables (phone, mirrorless camera, etc.). I would really appreciate your help. Kind regards and keep up the good work!
Hey Agustin, Thank you very much. Glad that you like my video. Just by considering your height, I would say you are about in the middle of the 21L or the 26L version. Both should suit you well. I personally would go with the 21L version, but you mentioned 2-3 packing cubes. It really depends on the size of the packing cubes. For instance you can fit the fieldpocket echo, gr1 and gr2 into the 21L version, but those three are all different sizes. Best advice would be to compare the sizes of the packing cubes that you would like to pack and see if they aproximately fit into the 21L version. Hope that helps a bit. Let me know if you have more questions.
Thank you very mucho bo! Helps a lot. I have the Zero Grid packing cubes: www.amazon.com/Packing-Cubes-Travel-Organizer-Shoe/dp/B019Q4OWV8 I also have a bag from Mafia Bags: mafiabags.com/collections/backpacks/products/the-discover-pack The bag measures about 48cm in height and it sits right above my waist when worn. Sometimes, when I wear a belt and the bag is full, it’s a little uncomfortable. So, I think you’re right, I should go with the 21L. I just need a bag that gets the job done for me, everyday and during travel, with comfort and ease of use. So that settles it then, thanks again. Looking forward to future awesome reviews, cheers!
This review was one of the tipping points for me to dive into a GR1 21L. Have you ever shot a video of yourself with the 26L version? I used the 21L for a weekend trip but I wondered how the 26L would have been like.
Great videos and thanks for your review. I found your stuff on Carryology and I like how you give unbiased reviews. It's refreshing and unique compared to the other ones out there. I actually just purchased a GR1 21L based on your review.
Great review and love all your vids! Convinced me to get not only the GR-1 but the bullet as well and couldn't be happier. Now I need to know where you got that awesome grey NYC sweater!
Thanks, Ben. I'm glad that you are happy with the bags. I have both as well. I got the sweater from Pull n Bear. But I bought it a couple of years ago. Not sure if you can still get it
After a lot of reviews and videos, I opted for a GR1 26L version, since I wanted a versatile bag for short and longer trips, and so far I love it. Thanks for doing this type of videos! I was wondering where you got your custom-made patches, since I've been researching but can't find any options besides the ones in GoRuck's site. Any suggestions?
Bo, great video as always! I recently pulled the trigger and purchased this bag. I had a question about how you use the laptop compartment. Do you still store your laptop with a neoprene sleeve? Does the tight fit have any adverse effects on the laptop due to pressure? I have a MacBook Pro and wasn’t sure the best way to store it in my new GR1 (21L). Any advice you have would be appreciated. Thanks and keep up the great videos!
Thanks, Paul. Glad to hear, taht you also got the bag. I use my 2014 Macbook Pro retina with a neopren sleeve inside the laptop compartment. I don't have any issues with space. And if you have a newer macbook pro, it should be even thinner and therefore easier to pack.
+TheGuin thank you ✌ 😀. I really like the rush12 and used it for a very long time, but now I prefer the gr0. The rush12 is a solid backpack with lots of organizational options for a very good price, but I like the design of the gr0 better. Also the clamshell opening works better on the gr0. The simplicity compared to the rush12 is also a benefit for me. If you have more questions, feel free to ask.
You are simply the best backpack reviewer. Hands down. If possible, it would be really cool if you could do a review on the rush 12 :) Keep up the good work.
Great review! I am thinking about getting one for myself. Do you know if the bag has to be completely unzipped open in order to get the stuff inside? I think it would be a bit awkward to unzip the whole bag in a classroom or an office.
Hey Aaron! Thank you very much. You don't need to zip the bag up completely. That is the beauty of clamshell opening bags. Of course if you need to get to something at the bottom or at the bottom mesh pocket, you might need to open it up completely, but you don't have to. Let me know if you have more questions
Best video about Goruck Bo! I have just ordered the GR1 21L to use it as EDC: biking every day (15miles) and carrying cameras and heavy equipment. And also important, wIthout drawing too much attention to robberies in a big city as Buenos Aires (its a low profile backpack). Thanks!
Awesome. Hope you like the bag! And totally agree on it being low profile. Is Buenos Aires that dangerous? To answer your question regarding water resistance: I think that is always a very difficult question to answer. The bag is supposed to be water resistant and due to the flaps on the zippers everything inside is qzute well protected. BUT heavy rain will get into any bag eventually. In the city I always have an umbrella with me or I wait until the rain stops, therefore my stuff is never getting wet inside. But if I'd be in Indonesia and got into a rain storm, the stuff inside will get wet. maybe not because water gets through the fabric but it will get through zippers or seems at some point. So bottom line: It really depends on the rain ;-)
Thank you Bo! I really like and appreciate your videos, always on point and you are very thorough in your reports. I recently became a subscriber, so I'll see more of you soon. Happy new year, Bo! Gunnar Pedersen, fellow edc enthusiast from Swe.
Hey Bo, I own the Rush 12 and have been deliberating (painfully) over whether to get the GR2. Can you tell me why you feel you could justify purchasing the GR2 even if you had the rush 12. I love the rush 12 but like the appearance of the goruck better. I just cannot get myself to pay the premium to upgrade purely for looks. Are there any other reasons that the goruck is better than the rush 12? Thanks Wil.
Hey Wil, I used the Rush12 quite a lot and I still have it. The GR2 is way bigger than the Rush12. The GR0 (now called the GR1 21L) is more comparable to it. I saved a lot of money before actually getting it, but it was worth it. For me the toned down design and the seperate Laptop compartment were one of the reasons why I like it over the Rush12. Also the Field pockets are awesome, especially with the internal Molle. Let me know if you have more questions! Cheers, Bo
Hi Bo. I'm debating whether I should go with the 21L or 26L. I'd like to use the bag for EDC and short travels but I'm not sure if the 26L would be too big for EDC. Have you ever used this for short travels? If so, what's the most amount of days you've packed this bag for?
Hey James, For EDC I found 21L to be the perfect size. Everything bigger is just too big for my size. I haven't done any travels with that bag alone though. I've read of couple of people being able to travel with the GR1 alone, but I personally haven't been able to nail the "one bag travel philosophy" yet. The most that I have packed inside for travel including my gear was one night, but that was really bare bones. But everyone is packing differently.
Great video. Would you use this bag for running? I know it is used for goruck events, but for like a 5 k run in the woods, would this bag stay in place? I am asking since there is not a waist strap and anything to hold it in place up front.
Hey. Thank you. Yes, I think it would work out well for running. It stays pretty well in place even without the waistbelt, since you wear it pretty high anyways. The downside is the missing ventilation of course.
Hi Bo! Have you ever tried Kydex frame sheets for your GR0, or feel that they are necessary over the stock frame sheet, for an EDC bag? Supposedly the Kydex is way stiffer, preventing some of the slouching and supporting more weight, but seems to void the warranty if used in the frame sheet pocket. I was looking at some on ruckinghard and ruckcustoms. What are your thoughts on these? Thanks!
Hey, That's pretty interesting. I haven't seen those before. But For me personally I never had the feeling that the back of my GR0 is not stiff enough. Actually I'm not sure if a stiffer back is actually that good, because I would suspect it would become more uncomfortable. But that's just an assumption on my part.
Bo, did you ever compare the GORuck Echo with the GR0/GR1 21L? Since you around the same height as me, I am curious if that was an option you were considering before purchasing the GR0?
+Andre Varela I haven't had the chance to get the echo. With the high shipping and customs fees, I will probably not going to do a comparison. But as far as I know the echo does not have a laptop compartment. Therefore I would rather go with the gr series
Beautiful video, Bo. Great breakdown and photography. Can't help but wonder if you helped the stuff fall out at one point though... After watching this, and seeing a Veterans day Goruck sale, I decided to pull the trigger and grab a GR1 and field pocket, so thanks man. Keep up the good work. Just curious, what kind of watch are you wearing? I should probably stop shopping for a while mind you, Goruck bags aren't cheap.
+Tomoka Fujita hey, Tomoka. Thank you very much for your kind words. Really appreciate it. Well, when you open up the bag completely and hold it vertical the stuff will tumble and fall out of the bag eventually. If you hold it still and balance it, of course the stuff won't fall out. But that isn't realistic. The bag is meant to put flat on a table or on the ground when you open it up completely. But you still can open it just half the way and get to your stuff like on a top loading backpack. In that video I wore a Seiko nano monster in black. But I added a steinhart ocean 500 titanium to my very small (I only got three watches, one of which I just got because a friend found it in his basement and wanted to throw away) collection. So in my newer videos you can see the steinhart. Let me know if you have any more questions. I know that goruck are expensive and you might have another questions before making such a pricey purchase.
Hey Bo, thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I realized my wife was signed into UA-cam when I commented, so that's the name change for you. No questions now. Your video was very helpful though. It's shot beautifully, honestly assessed pros and cons (even if the stuff had a little help falling out), showed the field pockets in action, did a side by side with a comparable bag, showed what it looks like when worn. Easily the best video I have seen for the Goruck. Not much more I can ask for! Keep up the great work! Might have to look at some Seikos when I'm in Japan over Christmas break. Good chance to break in my new GR1 for my carry on. Take care,
+Brandon Mcneil hey Brandon. Thank you very much. Really appreciate the feedback. Let me know when you get a goruck and how you like it. Also Seiko has some great watches. I can highly recommend them. I would love to visit Japan as well and check out some seikos directly over there.
sweet review! i'm looking into Goruck products myself so i guess i stumbled on your channel at a good time c: question for you: what's that carabiner you keep on the bottom? just a plastic one for aesthetics? or more of a convenience thing?
Thanks Kevi. Glad you like this video. The carabiner is out of quite strong plastic. In the military they use it to attach stuff but to keep weight down as every gramm matters. It's obviously not for climbing but it will hold a small DSLR just right. I use it to hang a cap on it. Or when I am in a room and need to hang a small pouch somewhere. I prefer it because it is lightweight, doesn't make noise and actually looks good.
Hi Bo, thanks for the review. Hey I found two types of field pockets on Goruck website. Shooter and Padded. What kind of field pocket are you using in your video?
Thanks, Sungwon. I use the padded ones. The shooter version uses velcro instead of molle at the back. All the shooter bags have a velcro interior so you can just attach them faster than with the molle.
they could've added a waist belt to help with the back support. but if you only carry light, then it should not matter. personally, I luke packs with waist belts because you never know what you will be carrying in that pack. it will save your back in the long run.
+JOHN VIRTUDAZO hey John. Agreed, the waistbelt helps a lot, but I personally never bother and find that it gets more in the way than help me. But that's just a personal preference
Liking it a lot so far. The look is really sleek, although I'm not used to a bag sitting so high on my back. Something just to get used to. You were right in your video, the sweating on your back can be annoying. The straps are incredibly thick too. Not a bad thing, just different from the cheap Herschel I had before. Overall though it's very good, you were spot on.
Cool. Yes, compared to a Hershel this is a different beast. Don't worry about the straps, they will wear in after awhile, and get softer and more comfy
hey Bo, I'm between this and the peak design daypack - any experience with the PD backpack? thoughts? I do enjoy pockets and place to stash my water bottle.
+gipht marauder i haven't had any experience with the peak design yet. But as far as I know, I think they are completely different bags. While the peak design is more intended for camera gear, the strength of the GoRuck is its simplicity and adaptability by using molle attachments. But it is less padded but way more durable than the peak design. I would recommend to define your use of the bag and then decide which one to get. If you carry more or only camera gear then go with the peak design. If you want to use it for day to day tasks and some traveling then the GoRuck might be the better choice. But that said: I use my Goruck for photo gear as well.
Hello Bo ! I ordered the patch you have but its not velcro! how did you do it if you don't mind telling me? :) oh and i received my go ruck with the pink field Pouch that makes it look cooler and girly ^.^ its so nice and colorful !! i have the AER Both backpacks! and what i didn't like about the AER is the straps for a girl its not comfortable! but i got the curved straps for the gorcuk and love how it feels! Thank you for helping me decide :)
Hey Afnan! I'm glad that you enjoy your purchase and that I was able to help. You are very welcome. And the pink pouch sounds great. Maybe you can post a picture of your setup ;-) My patch came as well without the velcro. I bought velcro strips from ebay and sewed them onto the patch.
Great review! I'm in need of a backpack for when I travel to Indonesiaater this year and this video has swayed me to the Goruck, definitely subscribing. Is it the Padded Field Pocket Bundle (Gr2, Gr1 and Echo field pockets) that is featured in this video? Do you think they would fit well in the Gr1 26ltr? Thanks,
Thank you very much, Jason. I'm glad this video helped you, and I envy you that you'll visit Indonesia this year. Where are you going if I may ask? I have all three field pockets. I attached the field pocket gr1 inside, and i use either the field pocket echo for my mouse and macbook pro charger, or the fieldpocket gr2 for the times when i need to bring a harddrive. a hard drive, the mouse and the charger fit neatly into the fieldpocket gr2. All three of them fit in my GR1 21L. So they should fit into the 26l version as well. Let me know if you have more questions ;-)
+Bo Ismono thanks for the quick reply mate! That sounds good, I'll be getting all three. Will be travelling to Bali for a couple weeks, should be great :)
+Bo Ismono your review video's are great - this one in particular convinced me to go and splurge on the Goruck pack. I have been using it now for the past three months and overall super happy. One big downside I wonder why I haven't seen or read it in any reviews: the paracord zipper used for the laptop compartment hangs down in front of the back panel when the compartment is closed. This causes the knot at the end of the paracord to get stuck between your top right shoulder blade, and the back panel. I never noticed it until I started wearing the backpack with just a t-shirt. It's very uncomfortable. Anyone else notice this/fix it?
Hey, I'm happy that my video helped you. I still love my Goruck. In regards to The zipperpull of the laptop compartment: I actually do not have the problem. I can see that it will get stuck between your shoulder blade and the back, but I don't feel it or i haven't even noticed so far. The only solution I would have is to shorten the zipperpull all together :-(
Bo, thanks for this review and all the packing techniques. I currently have a TAD FAST Pack Litespeed. It's 20 inches tall and it fits me really well. I'm thinking on switching to the GR1 because I really miss having a separate compartment for my notebook. I initially thought I would purchase the 21 Liters (18 inches high) but my TAD is 20 inches tall and fits me comfortably. I was thus thinking on getting the 26 Liter version that is also 20 inches just like the TAD. Any concerns you might have? I don't mind the backpack going a bit lower in my back and I will use it for every day carry - not for super heavy loading. Thanks! m.
Hey Martin, Thank you very much. I'm glad that you liked it. Before I got the Goruck I tried to decide between the TAD Fast Pack and the GR-0, but I went with the Goruck because of the laptop compartment. Which is basically the same reason why you contemplate to switch ;-) The Goruck GR1 21L and the 26L version are more or less designed for different heights of the person using them. If you are comfortable with the 20inch in height I would say, go with the 26L version. For me it would be too big (I'm 170cm tall or short ;-) ) Let me know if you have any more questions. Cheers!
Thanks Bo. I am as tall (or short) as you. However the TAD has felt really comfortable, and my riding backpack Timbuk2 Special Medio is even higher than 20 inches and still feels well in my back. So I guess I'll go for the 26 L. I'll report back as soon as I get it and have time to try it out. Thanks again for your response, the awesome videos and the packing tips!
Hello Bo! You are making really great reviews, thanks a lot! Could you please comment on the problem of D1000 Cordura being so abrasive that it destroys clothes? There are a lot of complaints on the web.
Hey Mikhail, Yes, Cordura in general can be very abrasive on clothing. Especially at the lower back it does rub a lot at sweatshirts for instance. BUT I have the same problem with other fabrics as well. It's just a little bit more pronounced with the Goruck because the emphasis of the bag is durability.
Thanks! I :) Will have to think about it. I like this bag a lot, but I like my clothes too :) I use a waxed canvas Brooks England pack daily and haven't noticed any damage to the clothes.
amazing review ! i loved how you mentioned every little detail in there... when i go to Go ruck they don't have GR0 they only have GR1 or GR2 ? did they stop the GR0 ? oh and also they have the GR Echo !!! which one do you recommend ?pls :)
+Afnan Sabbagh hey Afnan. Thank you very much. I'm glad my video was able to help you. The gr0 still exists, bit it is called the gr1 21L. 😉 I do also own the bullet 10l. I basically use the gr0 for work or longer day trips. And the bullet for daytrips when I don't need much. I've never used the echo. It sits right between the gr0 and the bullet in terms of size and function. Therefore I never considered it.
just go on etsy and write in the search bar " customized patches" :D you will see a lot of sellers chose one that suits you depending on their reviews :)
Hi, Bo. First off, I love your video's. Thank you! I'm taking the leap and am moving to Colombia. I've built my business in a way that allows me to work anywhere. I'm debating between getting the GR1 or the Heimplanet Day Pack. My only concern is that I heard the GR1 is not so comfy. I wear my bag A LOT and this is important. I carry around the same things you do (camera, laptop, HD, mouse, etc). Do you have any suggestions on a bag? Between the two, what one would you recommend? You rock! Pierre
Thanks a lot Pierre! Appreciate the support! THe Heimplanet Daypack and the Goruck GR1 21L are both great bags. Can't go wrong with any of them. THe Goruck is a way more expensive bag (at least in Germany with shipping and customs fees), but I feel like it will last many more years than the Heimplanet. The quality of the Heimplanet is great, but if you woudld take both bags to war, the goruck probably will come home almost in good shape ;-) The ruggedness does come with the price of being slightly less comfy, but mine broke in quite well. It does need awhile until it feels comfortable. Depending on your work I would also evaluate how important the look is. The Goruck can be worn to office of course but might be out of place in a business meeting. That is something only you can decide. Other that that I find the Goruck easier and more practical to pack. The front quickaccess pouch is great when traveling (I store my wallet etc. whilst going through TSA for instance) and the laptop compartment is way better. The Heimplanet on the other hand is slightly more comfortable and more toned down in looks. Bottom line I prefer the Goruck. Let me know if you have more questions. And please keep me in the loop with which bag you end up with ;-) Cheers, Bo
Also, I'd like to potentially collaborate on some videos. I have clients around the world that need video production for Facebook ads. If you're open to touching base, please, let me know. Best, Pierre :)
+pierre beaini that's awesome. Would love to have the gr2 as well, but I have so many bags, I just can't justify the price with all the fees here in Germany
+Antonio Botello Thanks, Antonio. I'm not planing to review the GR-1 since the GR-0 is basicly the GR-1 but for shorter people ;-) I'm 1,69m tall, I believe the GR-1 is a little too big for me. But I think everything said about the GR-0 is about the same with the GR-1. Hope that helps.
Hi, nice comparation, i've been watching your videos and like your editing "style" =). Recently I purchased a rush 12, having it at home I realised I couldn't remove the plastic reinforcement in the hydration pocket, I don't know if this is a standard in all rush 12 or a default in mine; despite the reinforcement is accesible by velcro is meaningless the fact that is accesible but no way to remove it. This is a pity because this bag being empty with that reinforcement cannot fit in the Ryanairs's metallic box of second piece of hand luggage, for example. Furthermore I realised that the plastic sheet is much bigger than the space reserved for it, this feature gives a curvature that I think allows the bag to stay stand up while being empty. Otherwise I don't know if this is a standard or not because seams really look like being in compromise. Despite I have watched many videos I never saw someone removing that reinforcement. For the rest of the features I like the bag. Did you notice those two things in your rush 12??.
Hey ROdrigo, Sorry vor the late reply. I just took a look at the plastic reinforcement. I never tried to remove it, but it seems to be quite firmly in it. I don't want to try to force it out, because I don't know if I can pry it back in. But for me that place was always a compartment for papers or documents to be honest. As far as the size goes: Mine is not curved at all. So I'm not sure if they might have changed something in the production. My version is already 3 or 4 years old.
same as usual, i always like your reviews, simple and totally accurate ! i'm just wondering: is the goruck totally waterproof? i mean if i drop it into water (for ex river), will the water penetrate into the bag and touch my tech and gadgets?
+MrMaster ster thanks. If you drop the bag into a river the inside will get wet. That is obviously a very extreme case though. The only bag that can keep your tech save in that situation will be a drybag Imho
Hi Bo, thank you for all the videos that you have made :) Based on your experience with the Rush 12, how did you pack your macbook inside? I wanted to get the Rush 12 because the price is cheaper, it has clamshell design with tough built quality, but quite hesitant because of the lack of laptop compartment. I don't think the hydration pocket will fit a 15 inch macbook, but how about the smaller 15 inch touchbar macbook? I literally checked the dimensions, and actually think that it will fit. Finding a backpack is tougher than I thought and it is tougher to find the one with a clamshell design and a dedicated laptop compartment. If I have the money I will surely pick the GR1 :'(
Thanks, Hadi! The Rush12 is great. I used it quite alot. You are correct, A 15" macbook wont fit into the hydration pocket. I always put my Macbook into the main compartment. It fit quite well. I don't know if the newer macbook will fit inside the hydration pocket, but I doubt it to be honest. The Rush 12 is a great choice for that price.
Thanks, Jerahmeel. Yeah, I tried it, but I personally don't like outer attachments. I prefer the streamlined look. and with outside attachments the potential to snag somewhere is higher (e.g. with outside attachment it wont fit underneath an airplane seat, or side attachments could snag on doors of a trrains during the early morning commute when it is really crowded)
Thank you, Jeronimo. I haven't used the Echo. Seems like a nice gr0 formfactor in a smaller package. But since the echo doesn't have the inside Molle, I would rather prefer the Gr-0. And when I need a smaller pack I'd go with the bullet. Moreover, I use a 15 inch MacBook. The echo only holds a 13 inch MacBook. I hope that helps. I will post a video soon which will describe how I pack the gr-0 and the bullet, feel free to subscribe so you won't miss it 😉
Sorry, forgot to answer your question regarding the zippers. I just used some red paracord and took the end ties of the rush12 zippers. If you have more questions, feel free to ask.
Great review! You hit on a few things I've not seen others mention before. Excellent video production. Do you mind if I share this on the GoRuck Tough facebook page?
+Cory Murphy Hey Cory! Thanks, highly appreciated. Mentioning new stuff was exactly what I was going for. And of course you can share it on the facebook page. More videos coming soon.
+Stuart Knight thanks, Stuart. I haven't had the chance to check out tom bihn. They aren't that common here in Germany. But I have heard a lot of good things.
Hi Bo. The GR1 comes in 21L and 26L. They recommend anyone under 6' to get the 21L. Will I miss the 5 extra liters if I get the 21 or would the 26L be fine. I'm 5'6". Thanks
+Kevin Ankin it's hard to say if you will. Miss the 5l. But I would recommend to go with the 21L. We're about the same height and I feel like the 21l is the perfect size. Anything bigger just looks "wrong" on my back and will be very heavy if I used the whole space
Hey Sebastian. That's a very interesting question. I haven't used the gr0 in awhile. Still really like the bag for many reasons. But looking at the competition and the high costs of shipping and custom fees that I had to pay back then, I probably would recommend a different bag. That being said, the build quality and the durability is amazing. But other brands have similar qualities with some more features. So bottomline, obviously this comes down to personal preference. But for me if I take costs, features and office use into consideration I probably would choose differently. The Evergoods cpl24 for instance is a great bag and almost a direct competitor. Very durable (not sure if it is as durable as a goruck to do a rucking event though), has plenty (but not too many) compartments, looks stealthy and I wouldn't hesitate to take it to a business meeting.
Thanks for your reply and your thoughts @@Youknowthebo ✌ Will have a look in the Evergoods packs too. Wish Goruck would have added the 500D fabric as regular option in there line up. The 1000D and its abrasion, which is said to the material, makes me hesitate. The unavailability of accessories like field pouches is a downer too. Cost of course also ... maybe I can find a good deal on a used GR1 within Europe.
Sehr cooles Review!
The Goruck bags are well known for their durability, but I have not found that much information in regards to the water resistance. Do you have any experience about this, e.g. using the bag in a real downpour or similar? I am quite interested in the 5.11 Covrt Boxpack Tactical Backpack as well, which seems to have more of a "shiny" exterior so water just runs off of it.
Hey, Well, in my experience there is no backpack, that will be 100% water proof. Heavy rain will get through zippers or seams eventually. Probably the best solution is a raincover or an umbrella (which is what I do in the city ;) ) Most backpacks have pretty good water resistant fabric to begin with, but as I said long exposure to heavy rain will get to every bag to some degree. In your example: On the Goruck, the water will also just run down on it ;-)
+Bo Ismono Thank you for the quick reply. Yeah, I agree with you, zippers and seams will leak through on all bags eventually. I also used to carry a small umbrella in my bag, but now I've started cycling to work so the umbrella is pretty much ruled out.
Agreed. THIS is a product review! There are so many "reviews" out there that do not tell you anything more that you can't get from the manufacturer website. This is a perfect example of a solid review! Subscribed.
So would you choose a 5.11 rush 12 or this GR0 Bo? Sounds like the Rush is simply much too better price-wise. GR0 doesnt seem to offer anything profoundly better for double the price. I'm leaning toward the Rush here in Australia. For one, its very popular here amongst the military and I can't find anywhere to get a goruck besides paying for it to get shipped here from the US.
+InspirationIsFree hey. Well, I used the rush12 for a long time. And I can highly recommend it especially at that price. In regards to features and build quality the rush12 is top notch. But for me the design and the added depth of the organizational pouch at the front didn't work out for me after awhile. The GoRuck fits better underneath an airplane seat. And the more simplistic design is more suited for the use in an office IMHO. The most important thing on the gr0 for me is the separate laptop compartment. But it took me a long time to decide if I wanted to spend all that cash on the GoRuck. I also had to add a lot of shipping and customs fees. In the end I did not regret my purchase, but I still gladly use the rush12 from time to time.
+Bo Ismono Cheers man! Yeah especially needing to buy all the field pockets too, that would just add more cost. Thanks for your reply and keep up the pack reviews! They're great!
InspirationIsFree You're very welcome! And thanks, really appreciate that you like my videos. Let me know when you get the Rush12 and how you like it. Cheers!
Hey, Shahira. The GR1 doesn't fit a 17 inch laptop. There are very few bags that I know of, that fit a 17", the LBB Peloton does fit a 17". And maybe the Goruck GR2, but that one is very big and IMHO not suited as a daypack. And thank you very much for subscribing!
+Bo Ismono ah I see. well nice to know you and nice review and how you out all the scene together. Also nice review!!. how'd you like the goruck 10L pack? just got mine last week.
The rush12 is a great bag. You can open the zipper pulls of the rush12 and exchange them with paracord. I just got red paracord from Amazon. It's a little bit difficult. You need to pull out one of the ends of the cord of the zipperpulls. Then use a pair of pointed pliers to squeeze the inside flap of the zipperpulls. The zipperends consist of two parts that can be pulled apart. There is a written tutorial on the Web somewhere if my explanation was a little difficult.
@@Youknowthebo Would be awesome to see a tutorial on this from you. Just stumbled across your video. Really clear and good review. EDIT: Andddddddd I just found your zipper pull tutorial, lol. Awesome.
Hi :), even the review was made 2015 can you still tell me which color option this is? The navy blue on their website looks a little bit brighter but i really like to get your exact color option from the video. Thx
This is the black version. However, keep in mind that this video has some color correction on it, so in real life the black does look a bit different than in this video
Hi Bo, have u tried one bag travel with the GR0? Can it fit alot of stuff (ie. like fitting a puffy jacket on top of packing cubes, etc)? I am still contemplating whether i should get the 21L or 26L. I usually prefer a backpack which will allow me an option to add more extra stuff while traveling, but since im short (155cm) with an 18inch torso, i scared that the 26L will be overkill for me tho. Hope that u'll be able to shed some light on this since i dnt wnt to purchase the wrong size then regrets it because the bag + shipping to malaysia is super duper expensive. Thanks. Haha.
Hey Audrey. I'm still trying to figure out the "One bag travel philosophy". I'm getting better at it, but I usually need a 30L bag for that. Therefore I have not been able to travel with just the GR0. But keep in mind that I usually travel to cold destinations and carry equipment, therefore you might be able to travel with just the GR0 but it might be a tight fit. But since you are in malaysia: Did you check out the Greenroom Rainmaker? I haven't checked it out yet, but lots of people have asked me to review it. It#S supposed to be quite good. And since you are in malaysia you could just check it out first hand before buying it. greenroom136.com/rainmaker
I've had mine for two years now. Overall, I love it. However, the lack of organization really makes me regret my purchase and sort of wish I went with a Tom Bihn Synapse instead.
Thanks for your comment, Joshua! While I can see that the lack of organization can bother you, I find this to be one of the major advantages. After having reviewed so many bags, I have found out that I prefer bags that let me customize them to my liking and packing style. Bags that have lots of compartments etc. already integrated often force me to adjust my packing style to the bag. However, I heard lots of good things about the Tom Bihn bags, and Chase Reeves just made a great review. I'd love to test one one day.
Bo Ismono oh the clam shell opening is ideal for packing cubes and customizations. I agree with that. I'm actually ordering a Synapse 25 today. I might use it as an EDC for school etc. I think that would be its ideal setting. I find the GR1 a little cumbersome for daily carry simply because of its weight and little organization. But I've thrown three packing cubes in it and OneBagged it for two weeks at a time.
+Andrew Haynal Casel you can't go wrong with the rush12. It was my first proper backpack. If you dig the military look, then I can highly recommend it. I just needed to switch bags because it was too military for the office
Danke sehr!!! Der Crumpler Base Park sieht sehr geil aus. Würde den auf jeden Fall gerne mal testen. Ich hatte damals mal einen Crumpler Messenger. Und von der Qualität und Verarbeitung machen die schon was her. Damals zumindest.
+Bo Ismono sweet! Thank you so much! I was wondering if you could help me out, I'm looking for a nice simple organized backpack for summer travel. Not anything for clothes but basic on the road stuff (headphones, laptop, camera, etc.) I don't want something way out of budget but if it's worth it I wouldn't mind investing. Is gr0 still one of your favorites! I do like it except the all the way unzip feature and the price. Thank you so much!! Keep up the awesome reviews!!
Kerry You're very welcome, Kerry! Yes, the GR0, which is now called the GR1 21L, is still my favorite backpack. The price is indeed very intimidating. It took me several months to finally decide to buy the bag (especially since I had to add shipping and customs fees to Germany), but it was well worth it. And the zippers that open the bag in a clamshell fashion are the best. Once you get used to it, you don't want anything else. Packing and unpacking the bag is so much easier than with a toploading bag. So considering what you want to pack, I believe that 21L is the max size you want for a backpack, right? Is the military design of the Goruck something that you like? How big is the laptop that you want to carry?
+Bo Ismono I do really like everything about the 21L - the size, the look, and the structure. My laptop is a 13 inch MacBook Pro. I think the mini organization packs inside are nice too but are they efficient in carrying what you need?
The 13" Macbook Pro is no problem for the laptop compartment of the Goruck. THe small fieldpockets are really great. I use all of them, but they are quite pricey. I would suggest to get at least the Fieldpocket Echo or Fieldpocket GR1 to attach it inside the bag. I attached the Fieldpocket gr1 inside. It's great for small items or even a small camera. I always store battery pack, cables, Camera batteries and a fuji x100s in there. Sometimes i store the Macbook pro charger and a mouse in it. Have you taken a look at my lexdray whistler pack review? Since you only have a 13" laptop, that one might be interesting for you as well, although it is a completely different style, of course.
Moin Philipp.
+Carl Antonio hey Carl. Considering that I mainly reviewed black bags lately I would love to have a different colored backpack. Although I'm not sure if I would go with a different color on the GoRuck. A cool Grey would be nice
Selamat Pagi, Hanafi. Yes, both my parents are from Indonesia, but I was born and raised in Germany. So I don't speak that much bahasa indonesia unfortunately.
Hey, I'd love to, but with customs and shipping fees it is just too expensive. Furthermore I already got the GR0. But my GR0 review should give you a good insight on the Goruck bags in general. The GR2 is basically just the bigger version of it.
+Bo Ismono i'm 175cm, do you think i should go for the GR2? i need it for every Day (bike + gym + job), and to do short trips (4 days máx). Thanks! Regards from Argentina
+patriciojgf well I'm shorter than you. Check my aer travel pack review. The bags should have about the same measurements. For a daily pack the gr2 might be too big I think, but for a four day trip it should be great.
+Bo Ismono Custom clearance is no problem in this case. You just need the mail or a sheet of paper that it is a repair. No additional costs.
nycon2k Thanks for the info. I didn't know that repairs are clear of custom fees.
6 years later, this was a great video. Very informative and very great insight on the pro's and con's of the GoRuck. Thanks for the review.
Thank you very much!
Your reviews are truly top-notch, honestly the best I've seen at succinctly and objectively reviewing the product. Keep it coming!
Thank you very much, Brad. More stuff is coming soon ;-)
This review was really helpful. You thought of everything and were very honest. Well done and well made. More like this, please!
Thank you, Ryan. That's such a great compliment. More videos are coming soon.
I like the upfront honesty of the review. I'm really glad you didn't go on about how perfect the GoRuck bag is. My 5.11 72hr has worked very well on countless trips but I'm sure a GoRuck would do well too.
Hands down the all time best GR video. Legendary status, just like the bag.
ToughMudder is nothing like a Goruck Challenge haha
Good video man. I also used the rush 12 for probably 4 years before getting my GR1. I don't regret the purchase at all. I got mine to add another exercise opportunity. I also bought the 30 pound rucking plate. This is when the bag really shows it's strength. It was made to carry weight comfortably.
Hey Steve,
I see that we think alike ;-) Nice to meet you, mate.
+Brian that's awesome Brian. Would love to see a picture of your goruck setup. Do you have a picture on instagram?
Hey Bo, thanks for the great video, and for introducing me to the Goruck packs. I just bought a GR1 and couldn't be happier with my purchase!
Hey!
That is awesome. I'm happy that my video helped you with that purchase and that you are happy with it!
Cheers!!!
Hi Bo, I wonder to share something with it as this is the only communication way I have with you.
I have the GR1 and I bought it because of your so good videos and opinions and I´m very happy with it and shadow bags.
What I want to share with you is something I´ve asked Goruck to remove from its website two times already.
My GR1 with light rain gets wet inside but if you go to Goruck you can read the following:
Rainproof
By military-spec submersion tests, waterproof means you could
repeatedly submerge something and its contents would stay entirely dry.
Our rucks are highly water resistant aka rainproof.
As that´s not true and Goruck agrees it´s not true and that´s why they sell dry bags.
I love your videos as I´ve always told you.
Thank you
Kind regards
Hey Oscar,
I'm happy that my video helped you in your purchase decision.
As far as weatherproofing and water resistance on bags goes:
in my experience there is no backpack, that will be 100% water proof. Heavy rain will get through zippers or seams eventually. Probably the best solution is a raincover or an umbrella (which is what I do in the city ;) )
Most backpacks have pretty good water resistant fabric to begin with, but in my experience long exposure to heavy rain will get to every bag to some degree.
Hi Bo,
thanks as always your help is much appreciated, I'm agree with you what happens with heavy rain, but in fact what I was taking about was with very light rain and I stated the reason wasn't the zipper as for instance in the front pocket I had my wallet and some papers, that got wet with very light rain for short period of time.
Hey Agustin,
Thank you very much.
I have the Zero Grid packing cubes:
www.amazon.com/Packing-Cubes-Travel-Organizer-Shoe/dp/B019Q4OWV8
I also have a bag from Mafia Bags:
mafiabags.com/collections/backpacks/products/the-discover-pack
The bag measures about 48cm in height and it sits right above my waist when worn.
Agustin Tettamanti Glad to help. Let me know how you like the bag or if you have more questions!
This review was one of the tipping points for me to dive into a GR1 21L. Have you ever shot a video of yourself with the 26L version? I used the 21L for a weekend trip but I wondered how the 26L would have been like.
Im a huge backpack fan and finding your channel made me very happy. Keep doing great work Bo!
+sk8stan thanks, glad that you like my work. Always Cool to meet people who are into the bag thing 😉✌
Great videos and thanks for your review. I found your stuff on Carryology and I like how you give unbiased reviews. It's refreshing and unique compared to the other ones out there. I actually just purchased a GR1 21L based on your review.
+Oppiken hey,
That is so great to hear. Makes me happy when my video can help with a purchase decision. Thank you very much for your kind words.
Great video! I'm deciding between the rush 12 and the GR0. In your opinion, which one do you prefer?
+TheGuin thank you ✌ 😀. I really like the rush12 and used it for a very long time, but now I prefer the gr0. The rush12 is a solid backpack with lots of organizational options for a very good price, but I like the design of the gr0 better. Also the clamshell opening works better on the gr0. The simplicity compared to the rush12 is also a benefit for me.
If you have more questions, feel free to ask.
Man, I can't help but admire your videos! Slick quality and great reviews! You surely deserve more subs :))
+Liquid Krakeeen thank you very much. 😉✌
So which one would you choose, the rush 12 or the Goruck? Great channel!
+Pol Grinyó thank you, Pol. I prefer the GoRuck.
You are simply the best backpack reviewer. Hands down. If possible, it would be really cool if you could do a review on the rush 12 :) Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much!!! Means a lot!. You are right, I might need to do a review on the Rush12 ;-)
Thanks!
by the way, do you have any comments on how much water resistant this is? from 1 (as nothing) to 10?
Awesome. Hope you like the bag! And totally agree on it being low profile. Is Buenos Aires that dangerous?
To answer your question regarding water resistance:
I think that is always a very difficult question to answer.
Bo Ismono as every big city it has its quote of robberies. I just received the goruck its pretty tough loved it!
+Agustin Garcia Bollini awesome. Glad you like it. Stay safe
Thank you Bo! I really like and appreciate your videos, always on point and you are very thorough in your reports. I recently became a subscriber, so I'll see more of you soon. Happy new year, Bo!
Gunnar Pedersen, fellow edc enthusiast from Swe.
+Gunnar Pedersen thanks, Gunnar. Really appreciate the subscription. I wish you a happy new year
Hey Bo, I own the Rush 12 and have been deliberating (painfully) over whether to get the GR2. Thanks Wil.
Hey Wil,
I used the Rush12 quite a lot and I still have it.
Cheers,
Bo
Hi Bo. I'm debating whether I should go with the 21L or 26L. I'd like to use the bag for EDC and short travels but I'm not sure if the 26L would be too big for EDC. Have you ever used this for short travels? If so, what's the most amount of days you've packed this bag for?
Hey James,
For EDC I found 21L to be the perfect size.
I want you to get a book and just read it to me. I don't even care what it is.
+Jesse Kelley Haha. You actually want to listen to my terrible German accent? 😂 thanks, mate.
Thanks!
Hey,
That's pretty interesting. I haven't seen those before. But For me personally I never had the feeling that the back of my GR0 is not stiff enough. Actually I'm not sure if a stiffer back is actually that good, because I would suspect it would become more uncomfortable. But that's just an assumption on my part.
You're clueless. 30lb steel plate in the ruck and it stands up on its own. Same with a laptop and notebooks. Get yourself right.
Great review! What the difference between GR0 and GR1(21L)?
THanks, Ikhwan. They are the same. They just changed the name ;-)
Just bought one after watching your review and some others, the overall subdued look is good for travel.
Cool, I'm happy to hear that my video helped you in the buying decision
I would love to visit Japan as well and check out some seikos directly over there.
sweet review! i'm looking into Goruck products myself so i guess i stumbled on your channel at a good time c:
question for you: what's that carabiner you keep on the bottom? just a plastic one for aesthetics? or more of a convenience thing?
All the shooter bags have a velcro interior so you can just attach them faster than with the molle.
thanks :)
they could've added a waist belt to help with the back support. but if you only carry light, then it should not matter. personally, I luke packs with waist belts because you never know what you will be carrying in that pack. it will save your back in the long run.
+JOHN VIRTUDAZO hey John.
Agreed, the waistbelt helps a lot, but I personally never bother and find that it gets more in the way than help me. But that's just a personal preference
You just convinced me to take the dive on one of these, ordering it now. Side note, what jacket are you wearing in 2:54? Love the look of it
Cool. let me know what you think of the bag, if you should buy one. That is a Schott NY Bomber Jacket
Maybe you can post a picture of your setup ;-)
My patch came as well without the velcro.
Jason Reynolds Always glad to help, Jason!
I really envy you, that you go to Bali. I've been there quite a lot of times. Enjoy it :-)
+Bo Ismono your review video's are great - this one in particular convinced me to go and splurge on the Goruck pack.
Hey,
I'm happy that my video helped you. I still love my Goruck.
In regards to The zipperpull of the laptop compartment: I actually do not have the problem. I can see that it will get stuck between your shoulder blade and the back, but I don't feel it or i haven't even noticed so far. The only solution I would have is to shorten the zipperpull all together :-(
Hi Bo, great review but a little off topic what jacket are you wearing at 2:55?
Thanks, mate. That is a Bomberjacket from Schott NYC. I don't know the exact model name though.
Thanks! m.
Hey Martin,
Thank you very much. I'm glad that you liked it.
Before I got the Goruck I tried to decide between the TAD Fast Pack and the GR-0, but I went with the Goruck because of the laptop compartment. Which is basically the same reason why you contemplate to switch ;-)
The Goruck GR1 21L and the 26L version are more or less designed for different heights of the person using them. If you are comfortable with the 20inch in height I would say, go with the 26L version. For me it would be too big (I'm 170cm tall or short ;-) )
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Cheers!
+Martin Herrera always happy to help. Let me know how you like the bag 😉
Hello Bo! You are making really great reviews, thanks a lot! Could you please comment on the problem of D1000 Cordura being so abrasive that it destroys clothes? There are a lot of complaints on the web.
Hey Mikhail,
Yes, Cordura in general can be very abrasive on clothing.
I do also own the bullet 10l.
I ordered the GR1 21L :D its on the way! im excited !
That's awesome. Let me know how you like the bag!
Noticed the orange zipper pulls- was wondering if this was a replacement or if you modded these yourself?
+Chris Nguyen hey Chris. I nodded them myself. I just got some red paracord and replaced the black ones
Looks great Bo. I'm probably going to steal your idea but with red!
Mine are red as well ;-) They just look orange in the video
The quality of the Heimplanet is great, but if you woudld take both bags to war, the goruck probably will come home almost in good shape ;-)
The ruggedness does come with the price of being slightly less comfy, but mine broke in quite well.
And please keep me in the loop with which bag you end up with ;-)
Cheers,
Bo
Bo!
You rock brother.
Thank you for this.
I decided on the G2 34L.
Thanks so much.
Pierre
Also, I'd like to potentially collaborate on some videos.
I have clients around the world that need video production for Facebook ads. If you're open to touching base, please, let me know.
Best,
Pierre :)
+pierre beaini that's awesome. Would love to have the gr2 as well, but I have so many bags, I just can't justify the price with all the fees here in Germany
+pierre beaini I'm always interested in collaboration. Just drop me an email at UA-cam@ismono.com
Awesome review, I knew the RUSH 12 is the same size as the GO RUCK GR-0.
Do you plane to review on the GO RUCK GR-1?
+Antonio Botello Thanks, Antonio. I'm not planing to review the GR-1 since the GR-0 is basicly the GR-1 but for shorter people ;-) I'm 1,69m tall, I believe the GR-1 is a little too big for me.
But I think everything said about the GR-0 is about the same with the GR-1. Hope that helps.
A video about the 5.11 would be nice!
+PlusMinusAll it's quite the "old" pack, but it might be a good idea to do a review nonetheless. I might think about it ✌😀
Hi, nice comparation, i've been watching your videos and like your editing "style" =).
Hey ROdrigo,
Sorry vor the late reply.
Bo Ismono ok thanks mate , do you have some examples of dry bags please?
I have one from Ortlieb. Not pretty for daily use, but very reliable in terms of keeping your stuff dry.
Bo Ismono thx a lot !
Use a dry bag. Nothing, especially nothing with zippers, will ever be totally waterproof.
Thank you! You actually made me sell my almost brand-new Thule Subterra 23l.. Now I'm waiting for my goruck gr1 21l ;D
+Rasuuu that's awesome. Let me know how you like the bag
It was very rugged, as stated in review. That was cool feeling. Other than that I love it! :D
+Rasuuu awesome. I'm glad that you are happy with the bag 👍
By the way, where did you buy the Zipper pulls you use?
+Rasuuu I just bought red paracord and took the zipper pull ends from my 5.11 rush 12
Hi Bo, thank you for all the videos that you have made :)
Based on your experience with the Rush 12, how did you pack your macbook inside?
Hey man, love your vid.. Have you tried attaching the field pockets to the molle webbing to free up some space inside?
Thanks, Jerahmeel. Yeah, I tried it, but I personally don't like outer attachments. I prefer the streamlined look. and with outside attachments the potential to snag somewhere is higher (e.g. with outside attachment it wont fit underneath an airplane seat, or side attachments could snag on doors of a trrains during the early morning commute when it is really crowded)
i see.. thanks for the response :) im still waiting on mine.,
Cool. Let me know how you like the bag 😉
Hi Bo. I am addicted to your channel. Great reviews! What color is your Goruck bag?
+Edward Fernando thank you very much, Edward. I have a black goruck
Please do a full Goruck V Rush video
Great video. What kind of jacket are you wearing ?
+TheChocoTaco thanks. That's a bomber jacket from Schott NY
Great review!
Do you have any thoughts on the GR Echo?... Also, where did you get the orange zipper pulls?
Regards
Great review .... did you look at the tom bihn synapse 25 ?
+Stuart Knight thanks, Stuart. I haven't had the chance to check out tom bihn. They aren't that common here in Germany. But I have heard a lot of good things.
Hey Bo Ismono, What type of patch are you using it really looks cool
I bought the patch from Langly.co
@@Youknowthebo thank you
You're very welcome 😉 ✌️
Hej Bo,
after all that years and all that backs that you have reviewed, does the GR0 sees any real-world-usage in your daily life?
Thanks for your reply and your thoughts @@Youknowthebo ✌
Will have a look in the Evergoods packs too.
+Bo Ismono. Was size go ruck was this. The 21 or 26L bag?
+Rakesh Arora that is the Gr1 21L formaly known as the Gr0
The Goruck bags are well known for their durability, but I have not found that much information in regards to the water resistance. Do you have any experience about this, e.g. using the bag in a real downpour or similar?
I am quite interested in the 5.11 Covrt Boxpack Tactical Backpack as well, which seems to have more of a "shiny" exterior so water just runs off of it.
Hey,
Well, in my experience there is no backpack, that will be 100% water proof. Heavy rain will get through zippers or seams eventually. Probably the best solution is a raincover or an umbrella (which is what I do in the city ;) )
Most backpacks have pretty good water resistant fabric to begin with, but as I said long exposure to heavy rain will get to every bag to some degree.
Ok, on a bike an umbrella wont work of course. Then a raincover might be your best bet.
Well. Great review. Niche product review. Nice to watch your videos. Subscribed man!
+AMYunus thanks, mate. Really appreciate the sub
Agreed. THIS is a product review! There are so many "reviews" out there that do not tell you anything more that you can't get from the manufacturer website.
This is a perfect example of a solid review!
Subscribed.
+Matthew Wilson thank you very much, Matthew. That means a lot
Thats a really cool Jacket you are wearing. Could you please give me the name of the jacket? Or better even a review. Thanks and great video review!
Thanks Dan! That's a Bomber Jacket from Schott. I don't know the exact model name though.
Thanks Bo!
Dan Sure thing, Dan! Cheers, mate.
Cheers!
Fantastic overview as well as presentation! Awesome
hello. do u think this bag would fit a 17.3 inch laptop ? and great video btw. subscribed !
Hi Bo, how much did you pay in taxes when getting it shipped to Germany=?
Great production quality. And thorough review.
+Sam Haraldson Thank you very much. Highly appreciated. More coming soon!
+Bo Ismono Hi, are you indonesian?
Yes, but I was born in Germany.
+Bo Ismono ah I see. well nice to know you and nice review and how you out all the scene together. Also nice review!!. how'd you like the goruck 10L pack? just got mine last week.
Thank you very much.
I just got the bullet 10l myself. It a pretty cool daypack and a good addition to the gr0. So far I like it.
Where did you get the orange zipper pulls, I currently have the rush 12 and its a great bag.
Greet video. Thanks. Just bought one. How did u get the orange color zippers??
Thank you very much. That's just Red paracord. I will do a zipper pulls video in the future 😉
Great thanks. Also I really like the carabiner look. Do you remember which brand and model it is?
Really great review, man.
Thank you, Randy!
Bo Ismono Haha. Unfortunately I haven't. Thanks alot for the heads up! I will check this one out first. Thanks again! :)
+Audrey D you are very welcome. Let me know if you have checked it out first hand. Would love to know what you think of it
I've had mine for two years now.
+Joshua Mueller cool. Are you going to do a comparison of the two bags?
Bo Ismono I probably will! I've never made a UA-cam video before but you gotta start somewhere!
+Joshua Mueller let me know if you have technical questions on how to do it.
Did you miss the compression straps on the GR0?
Great review on the Goruck.
+Keegan J Solomon Thanks, Keegan!
+Bo Ismono The quality and content of your videos are great.
+Keegan J Solomon i can't thank you enough. Really glad that you like my content. Cheers, mate
very elaborate review, Thanks!
No, I thank you for watching my video :-)
Are the GR0 discontinued/just out of stock? Don't see it on their website.
+Salena Huang it's still available. They just renamed it. It is now called the Gr1 21L 😉
Can you comment on how water proof it is?
Hope to see a 5.11 Rush 12 review from you.
+Andrew Haynal Casel yes, that video will be made. Not sure when though
Its easily available here in the Philippines. It still and will be a great pack. If not a great starter pack.
+Andrew Haynal Casel you can't go wrong with the rush12. It was my first proper backpack. If you dig the military look, then I can highly recommend it. I just needed to switch bags because it was too military for the office
Im sure if you had this channel back in the day, you'd make an awesome Rush 12 review. We need a blast from the past.
I will do a video on the Rush12 eventually ;-)
What is that brand you use for those smaller bags inside the GR-0?
+Raymond Szeto hey Raymond. Those are the GoRuck field pockets.
Great review!
Thanks ;-)
Damals zumindest.
Where have you bought the "Lets go somewhere" patch?
I bought it from Langly. www.langly.co/collections/Apparel
Great review, but for me, definitely I'm going with the Go ruck GR1.
+Antonio Botello thank you, Antonio. Be aware that the goruck gr0 is now called the gr1 21L
Ah!!! Then I should go with the 26L🎯
+Antonio Botello cool. Would love to hear how you like the bag, when you got one.
Sure thing.
Your videos are amazing!
Thank you very much, Jeremy!!!
Where did you get your awesome "let's go somewhere" patch?
+Kerry hey Kerry. Langly used to make them. instagram.com/p/BANvgeEKYCt/
Philipp Fischer Klar, immer wieder gerne. Mehr Reviews sind in Arbeit. Vielleicht ist da ja was dabei. Der 5.11 Rush12 ist auch eine gute Alternative.
+Bo Ismono Der hat leider kein separates Laptop Fach.. :/
Philipp Fischer Das stimmt, aber in das Hauptfach passt ein 15" Macbook Pro rein. Das Laptopfach war aber auch einer der Hauptgründe, warum ich mir den Goruck gekauft habe.
Hi Bo, would you ever get a GR1 not in black?
+Carl Antonio hey Carl.
Considering that I mainly reviewed black bags lately I would love to have a different colored backpack. Although I'm not sure if I would go with a different color on the GoRuck. A cool Grey would be nice
Hallo Ismono, are you Indonesian? Salam kenal :) Nice reviewed of you.
Selamat Pagi, Hanafi. Yes, both my parents are from Indonesia, but I was born and raised in Germany. So I don't speak that much bahasa indonesia unfortunately.
:)) great video, best review video so far
+Huy Nguyễn Hữu thank you very much, Huy ✌😀
hello! great video, can you do a review of the GR2?
Hey,
I'd love to, but with customs and shipping fees it is just too expensive.
