Anyone else excited for Jedi: Survivor? Would love to know what you're expecting or hope to see improved/added in. Any video games you guys want to see me cover? Let me know. Also, I have an end of year video coming soon, so stay tuned for that before Christmas!
I'm not adept at the 'Dark Souls' formula, but I was perfectly invested in Cal's journey with BD-1 and co. I sincerely hope Survivor's narrative expands on Cal's relationship to the crew and I'm really hoping they expand his relationship with Merrin; it would definitely be a welcome change of pace from 'Retrieve the McGuffin' or 'Blow up the Superweapon'.
Contrary to popular opinion, I liked the open world and collectables in this game FAR more than most other games. I did not have to use a guide to get everything, and it did not feel like a chore like most games these days. Lack of fast travel made it semi realistic which helped make you feel like a part of the world as you had to walk back to your ship every-time. Even the fact that loading screens were disguised as travel time was quite cool
i also like the archives that bd-1 had so i could find out a lot of new stuff about star wars canonical world and events. learning from video games is one of the coolest thing ever and i remember more from it, so i really love the fact that this is canon. i can just sit down and read the archives, which is really cool.
I like the collectibles and map too, I just wouldn’t mind if the holo map was less confusing, despite it being technically “perfect.” I think the maps overall could be cleaned up a bit too
I loved when I paused while playing just to enjoy the stunning landscape of individual planets. I went so far that I bought an image of one of the planets have it hanged on my wall next to my set up.
@@hopefullyanonymous3466the holomap was a cool idea but i dont think a more simple map would be bad. When i open a map i want something that tells me what i need to know quickly like say Hollow Knight. When i open my map in SWJFO i need to rub my eyes because i feel like i just had a stroke
Being a completionist at heart, getting all of the collectibles and trinkets in Kashyyyk was truly the worst time for me in that game and that critique of issues with backtracking and maneuvering the map is a big sticking point. Otherwise, this game was a LOT of fun, a definite surprise.
@@Maddog-xc2zv that's fair, there's only so much backtracking I'm able to do when the game does a concerted effort to make that as tedious as possible, especially when I've circled around more than once to spot hard-to-find collectibles
I liked how much smoother the lightsaber combat got after you unlocked more moves. It shows that Cal regained his skill with a lightsaber and even improved past what he was as a Padawan. Plus the little animations he does after a battle where he puts his lightsaber away are cool.
Underrated? What space rock have u been under? Everyone loves her & wish she wasn't potentially dead. But if anything it can get retconned & nobody will bat an eye.
and she was only a young padawan when caught by the empire. great, great character. Just love the second sister, Trilla - pitty she died right in the first instalment. On the other hand, the ninth sister just seemed the dumbest and clumsiest inquisitor ever in existence, the only thing she had were lungs to shout: hope she died falling the Origin Tree and do not return to this game.
@@LordNexusTheFir no chance they retcon it, that would be stupid, we saw her get killed, if dismembering humans happened in the game she would have been completely cut in half
Story i really enjoyed right up until the end, the combat was also enjoyable. I wish there was more variety with puzzles and use of vehicles etc but apart from that i enjoyed the game a lot. I also loved visiting all the different planets, so much so i wanted to visit more. Cant wait for 2nd game. For improvements i agree with customisation and mainly the level design as you said. 1st time around its not problem but when i visited planets for the 2nd time they really did not make me want to go through whole map again, i wish they had more open areas
I find the combat rather wonky. Not bad, not good. Evasionj also could be better. Blocking is also really sluggish. A large gap between me pressing the button and Cal reacting.
@@joaquingamarra3248 I may have miss worded my comment. i meant that i liked the story from start to finish. The only part about the end slightly annoying was that Cal destroyed the holocron which was the main thing we were looking for throughout the game but it makes enough sense storywise to be a justified decision so it was fine, but the whole end sequence as a whole was amazing.
@@hpfusion8842 damn I thought you were exactly like me and didn’t like the ending either ahaha. But yeah that is also one of the issues for me Cal destroying the holocron. Makes him too important to the franchise imo. But tbh the holocron itself doesn’t make sense being in the game at all. Vader destroys it in the comics shortly after ROTS because he doesn’t want their to be a potential Sith army or anymore inquisitors. He wants to be the only abomination of death for the empire and only considers himself and Palpatine as worthy beings of the force at this point. So no idea how the holocron is magically a thing again in this game or why Vader wants it. I think it’s just a massive mistake because they get Vader completely wrong with how he interacts with Cere. So yeah they mishandled Vader quite significantly but literally every single project that isn’t a comic or a book does that unfortunately. The guy literally has no wins outside written material. He loses in every single one of the films and shows and is depicted as bad as he is in this game elsewhere too like the Kenobi show for instance
I finished it quite recently, and other than the frustrating task of trekking back to your ship after reaching the furthest corner of each map due to the lack of fast travel, I had so much fun with this game. More fun than any other Star Wars game I've ever played. I sincerely hope the 2nd one continues this legacy
I do think that the backtracking is bad for a first playthrough but when you play it enough times and memorize the map i don’t find it to be too terrible
sad that such a janky mediocre game is the best star wars game we have. Never settle for mediocrity. It's been literal decades since we've gotten anything good for star wars and this still ain't it.
@@jackson.6282 nah its the game. Plenty of incredible games that have come out. Its sad that you settle for this subpar medicore EA corpo Garbage. I hope you can find good taste in games oneday.
I found it so cool to explore that republic ship later on in the game. It wasn't something you had to do for the for progression. It was entirely a choice to double back to a supposedly completed planet to go explore this one water area you remembered, and an entire ship is opened up to you. It's frustrating when let's players don't listen and completely miss it, but it's such a cool thing to go explore, and the echoes of the last hours of that unknown padawan and their master during order 66 was just heartbreaking
@@oliverlewis3126 I don't think you do. I keep watching streamers completely skip it since they don't think to go back there after kashyk. There's only collectables and force echoes in there but it's a real treat for any Clone Wars fan
the entire sequence where Trilla takes over your transmissions and talks to Cal? Was perfect for me. I wish it last longer and we got more dialogue between them. She was intimidating, tempting and made you think about the jedi and cere in a lot of ways.
Consider it took 5 years and the project started with 30 people and eventually got up to 140 people working on it, I think the game is very exceptional. I think Survivor will be a superior product in comparison. I’m excited.
You can tell a lot of love and passion went into the making of this game. I personally loved the moment when we see Vader for the first time. The fear in trilla’s face is chilling and the use of Anakins Dark Deeds is perfect. That moment gave me chills and I’m someone who doesn’t react all that much to movies, tv shows and games so this moment was a nice surprise! Honestly cannot wait for Jedi Survivor!!!
Loved the story focus but unfortunately it was pretty sub par imo along with the characters. There was a lot of contradictions to canon and it was really bland, generic, cliche, tripe heavy and predictable imo in regards to both plot and characters. And yeah personally I myself really didn’t like Cal and hope he doesn’t show up in other places ahaha.
@@khotunkhan3950 Vader’s motivations and psychology is off and he’s mistreated quite significantly by having his forced shield completely ripped through and made to kneel in front of a failed Jedi (which even Palpatine couldn’t do. He had to inflict pain on Vader to make him kneel willingly so somehow Cere is more powerful than Palpatine) when she should be much weaker than Vader but instead he applauds how strong she is and wants her to join him which is ridiculous and not like Vader at all. He doesn’t like any other force users besides him and Palpatine and as proof of that in the comics which got his character right, (now here’s the contradiction) pretty soon after ROTS he actually destroys the holocron that names the youngling force sensatives the Jedi order had that we see in Clone Wars but yet for some reason it’s in this game stupidly and he’s trying to get it and Cal is the one that destroys it which also makes his character much too important to the franchise imo. But the main thing is that it just makes no sense that the holocron itself shows up here when it’s already been destroyed and why Vader is the one trying to save it when he’s the one that wants to destroy it the most in the whole galaxy. He doesn’t want there to be any inquisitors and hates them (a lot like me ahaha), so he certainly wouldn’t want more. He doesn’t entertain the possibility of trying to turn anyone to the dark side other than his son Luke so it’s also bs how he wants Cere to turn after she owns his ass. In addition to that Illum is wrong and should be way more F’d up visibly from orbit, the temple is supposed to be gone, the ice wall destroyed and there’s a massive imperial presence noticeable from space. In the Ahsoka novel she can not only sense it but tell from sight that it’s overrun with imperials and there’s no point going there. Makes Cal and the crew look like blind idiots that they are surprised when they stumble upon them. Anyway those are the 3 main contradictions. Illum, the holocron and Vader’s motivations. There’s also a small one with the 9th sister’s appearance and her hand or feet or something (Can’t remember which) were already cut off by Vader and replaced but in the game she has everything intact. There’s some more wrong with the story and characters though that I have bigger issues with than the contradictions themselves but I’ve focused a lot on the negatives so some of the positives of just the narrative part of it is that I like Trilla (which is a big compliment because I hate the concept of inquisitors so they’re already at a predisposition for me to hate their characters haha) who was unfortunately wasted but at least Vader got a kill despite them screwing him up. Then the Captain and then BD-1 and that pet you find are the other characters I like. I loved the archaeological theme to it and the Zepho. I think their inclusion is an improvement to their Legends counterparts in the Rakataa atm but it remains to be seen how they’re handled in the future. Overall it was a really good fun game and I hope the next one improves on the stories and characters and doesn’t have as much unbelievable bs, tropes, cliches and does some better character work. Also though have a problem with how many Jedi are surviving order 66 which continues to cheapen the moment. It’s a bit ridiculous to introduce potentially 5 new ones in just the one story all of whom are somehow human which seems so forced, makes the galaxy small and the people behind it xenophobic ahaha. Which they def are based on an interview they said about protagonist relatability and how you have to have a human face as if Master Chief and Mando don’t exist and Ahsoka and Maul aren’t 2 of the most popular Star Wars characters ever. If anything making a character a cool alien makes them more distinct, sells more and provides a cooler backstory. So the guys an idiot. But it’s just unbelievable, stupid and breaks my immersion every time I see a human and even more so a human Jedi. Unfortunately that’s what it’s always been like so far in the shows and films since the PT and Clone Wars wrapped up. Kenobi was ridiculous in this regard with 99% of people being human on Tatooine even when in the OT it’s like 80% Aliens. It’s a small thing but just ruins the believability of the galaxy for me and the story. I’m sick of having every protagonist that shapes the galaxy be human with how unlikely that is and what it means message wise
@@protector_of_the_realms except if you really look at the ninth sister, she has those limbs that were amputated and her eye replaced by cybernetics lol in the game. you guys go about making all sorts of complaints without really looking thorughly at the actual shit. And if Vader wasnt interested in other force sensitive users< there wouldnt have been any Inquisitors. The nitpicking on your side is topnotch. When He sees Ceres power who is no ordinary Jedi and seems to hAve way more Experience than Vader, The first thing he mentions is she would have made an excellent. he is interested in using them and making them his puppets. but sure complain. doesnt negate the fact that the game got positive reviews throughout
@@khotunkhan3950 you just proved to me for a fact that you don’t know Star Wars. Funny you could also only target the one thing I wasn’t sure about. The turning your head away with a blind eye at the evidence is top notch. I said I wasn’t confident about the 9th sister and I tagged it on at the end of 1 line and that’s the thing you chose to focus your whole counter point on lmao. The things you guys do to find 1 nitpick small error in an argument and make a big deal out of it whilst ignoring the more important things that were actually being said is funny. “If Vader wasn’t interested in other force sensitives there wouldn’t be any inquisitors” plain wrong because Vader isn’t interested in inquisitors which is shown multiple times in canon. They weren’t his idea. He hates them and takes any chance he can get to kill them. They’re Palpatine’s idea and Vader disagrees with it. He didn’t even know they were a thing and fought the Grand Inquisitor the first time they met unaware who tf he was. Palpatine was grooming the grand Inquisitor and gave him authority before Vader’s mask even concealed his face and he went off to kill his first Jedi in the suit. He was blindsided by the inquisitors being a thing and they were the backup plan incase Vader failed. And Vader hates them and doesn’t want more. They stand for his failure. It’s a gross misunderstanding of the psychology of who Darth Vader is in both canon and legends. He wants to be the only abomination for the Empire and Palpatine. And that’s literally stated in prose in many comics and books and is visible on screen. But everyone gets Vader wrong these days like the Kenobi show and this game. And as I said he literally destroyed the holocron in canon because he literally isn’t interested in force sensitives. Which is something Vader would do and literally has already done in canon as I just said. So unfortunately you are very, very wrong and have completely misunderstood Vader. The stuff you choose to ignore and try to find loopholes in is insane and instead target my logic on something superficial like an inquisitor’s ascetics haha. And how about the issue with Illum hmmm? It’s people like you that is why Star Wars is where it is now. Not understanding any of the lore of Characters, being content with mediocrity bad characters and things that make no sense, not willing to justly criticise something in the hopes of it getting better and them making it right. You guys are ruining it for all of us. I just want a good Star Wars story man. The game’s fun and I love playing it. Have to skip the cutscenes though ahaha
I actually like the maps. It's a perfect way to show a vertically complexed map, though there are still some parts need adjustments. It should be more clear about which parts are actually connected and which don't. There are some instances where you see the gap is small on the map but you can't go through there.
I played it for "free" with GamePass and thoroughly enjoyed my one and only playthrough. The old-school Tomb Raider/ Souls gameplay gets old pretty fast, but the characters and dialogues are really well written. Until the Andor series came out, Fallen Order has actually been my favourite Star Wars content in Years.
I remember when I first played Fallen Order (on Jedi Grandmaster) I didn't know you could increase your number of healing stims beyond 3, so the final fight against Trilla was probably the hardest fight I've ever won in a video game
Lmao exactly the same ahaha. I also almost beat her one time and then she flashed me but I used a stim and I could hear the bloody thing from its audio cue and also you can still see Cal’s silhouette so I saw the animation for it take place as well and it finish, but it was glitched or something and I didn’t heal and then panicked, quickly tried to do it again and got killed in that animation. Took me like another 10 tries after that to beat her lol. Total bs and I hate the animation, BD should be able to stab you with it himself immediately not fling it into your other hand in an unnecessary animation haha
Maybe I'm just bad at games but that boss fight was so damn frustrating to me. Especially that one move where she just teleports and sucks your face until you die.
This is the kind of game that gets me excited for a sequel, a really good core, but you can see where the potential is for a much greater game to come from the foundation. Hope they have been able to effectively build upon that foundation. Just a bit of polish to the jank feeling parts of combat could make it feel like a Dark Souls 2 to 3 jump in quality, a bit better level design for backtracking and subsequent playthroughs with a bit more change or variety in the choices you can make with where to go first like the Zeffo/Dathomir choice hints at, and more solid bosses would be great to see, hopefully a bit more involvement from your crewmates also.
For me it was a refreshing experience. Felt a little clunky at times but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to Survivor because it should be an overall improvement. All I can ask for is some dismemberment!
I honestly loved it. Platinumed it on PS4. Currently replaying on PS5. Loved what they built. EA really did a good job giving respawn a chance with such a huge IP. The combat wasn’t the best but it definitely left room for improvement and I’m excited to see what they can do. Other than that the worlds they built r great. You’re rewarded for exploration. And I loved the atmosphere they created. Story wise it’s awesome as well. Great character they created and greatly acted out as well.
I agree with most of what you said however I actually loved the combat and thought the story sucked as a Star Wars fan. A lot of canon contradictions and just cliche, bland, predictable generic trope type stuff we’ve seen done better a thousand times before. Same goes with the characters imo and Vader was really disrespectfully mistreated. But I loved the game so much from how it played and the environments so can’t wait for the second
They mistreated him and got him wrong though unfortunately. No one can Vader right and give him his respect apart from the books and comics, it’s actually depressing at this point haha
I did not have any issues with the map, though it was well done. I did get annoyed having to travel through large areas just to get back to an item I missed lol
Yes, I understood the nap after just putting 10 minutes aside to learn it. I also find the fact I have to traverse such a massive area to get to one spot very annoying and I usually get bored before I get there.
Saw a video review a while ago that summed it up perfectly: *”It’s a game with good icing.”* While the gameplay is really wonky and it takes like an hour into the game to get through all the tutorial levels, the story and visuals are really good. It wants to be a lot and the gameplay suffers but there was a lot of heart put into the art style, music, writing, and acting.
It's...good. It's fine. Nothing earth shattering, but the presentation is good, and after 15 years of bad Star Wars games and years of divisive films, a middle of the road, serviceable Star Wars game was enough for a lot of people. I hope that now that Respawn has the proper time and budget with a proven formula, Jedi Survivor can be something truly special.
“More often than not If you try to follow it you’ll actually end up in the wrong place, I don’t know how it happens but it does.” Truer words have never been spoken. 🤣
I look back quite fondly on this game. Playing and beating this on Grand Master gave me the courage to finally play a From Software game, and it was Sekiro. I look forward to replaying it before the new one comes out.
I'm currently playing through this game for my 3rd time. Game play and visuals are absolutely top notch. Great contrast from Force Unleashed. I like how you have to be defensive to be good at the game. It really sells the idea that you're a Padawan trying to relearn your Jedi skills.
A great entry game, very well set, nice mechanics but not perfect, surprised with such good openworld for what I expected. It was awesome to play it and replay it again and again. Failled miserably with the ponchos. Nice touch letting us getting the dual lightsaber on the first mission we chose. Survivor is giving me even way bigger expectations. Hope it lives to them, I'm all hyped and already pre-ordered :)
Just wanna say this is the best game review I've ever seen. I agree with pretty much everything you have said about the game. I love the game, enjoyed it to the end. The 2nd play through though was definitely more frustrating as I noticed more how difficult it was to get from one place to another. The first play through the map baffled me and literally gave me headaches. The Map also was very, very, very unhelpful at times on all plays. But I love the game. Very enjoyable and well put into the star wars universe
A very fair review. I played the game like three times and have found the same problems. I had a blast and it nailed the original feel of the star wars movies 4,5, and 6. I personally loved the combat and thought the fight mechanics are a fair trade off for less health. The enemies are challenging and force you to master the game. The monsters do have too much health and the maps are fun till you need to go through a third time. Jedi Survivor seems like it is fixing a lot of the issues and expanding its game play. Even if the new game did not improve, I would still buy the game for the amazing story and exciting action.
Recently played this game for the first time and I honestly despise the checkpointing system as well as exploration. Not sure who decided we don’t need fast travel but they were incredibly wrong, and don’t even get me started on getting all the collectibles
With the whole thing about stormtroopers and other enemies not being killed as soon as you hit them I ended up making my own head canon where after losing Jaro and getting his lightsaber Cal coverts it into a blend of a training saber and real saber so he can use it as a tool and for self defense.
I loved the opening of the game where you see all the clone war Era ships being broken down and torn apart. Really sold how sudden and drastically things changed.
I didn’t really care about the characters, but the gameplay was decently fun. Hopefully, Jedi Survivor doesn’t launch broken this time. I played after months later, and after 7 patches and I _still_ had glitches.
it launched broken due to them having a little amount of people working on it compared to the games size and connections. the new one is much bigger in workers
Most helpful thing for my first playthrough was watching a video about things the game doesn't tell you but should. It shows you can get the scomp link and the double lightsaber right away, as well as the extra stim slot. You just have to explore the first couple planets but they're hard to find. Totally different experience.
I really enjoyed this game, its much easier than most souls like games but still requires attention to play properly. It was also a much needed break from stats, i loved being able to just play without struggling to see if any piece of gear made me stronger or weaker.
Fallen Order has become another in a growing list of games that really hate, but still get excited for the sequel because I want to see how much they manage to improve.
what do you hate about it? besides exploration which was mediocre at best it doesn't do anything outright terrible. It doesn't really break any new ground, but it still felt lot a solid and enjoyable experience. it feels like one of those games that encapsulates the Essense of what an 8/10 looks like
@@plugshirt1762 The poor exploration, pretty bland story (for anybody on the crew not named Cal or Merrin), and parade of bugs are my biggest gripes. I couldn’t summarize my issues with the story in less than a paragraph, but I found it very frustrating how little development Cal got until almost the very end of the game. I also use the word “hate” pretty loosely, I don’t think it’s a 0/10 experience, I just don’t think it’s the best game in the Star Wars franchise like a lot of people have claimed. Like you said, it was still pretty solid and enjoyable, but it was brought down by some of its lower moments.
@@saltyshrimppasta personally I haven’t gotten around to playing many other Star Wars games lauded as the greatest so I’m not too sure how they compare. But yeah the exploration was pretty bad and the story was just passable but I went into expecting a souls game with a Star Wars coat of paint and it pretty much delivered on that so the combat was pretty fun. The story isn’t great or anything but it has its moments and overall is just about average. Personally I’m expecting the sequel to have some slight improvements but nothing that actively changes the status quo it’s established so I’m not exactly rushing to play it at launch but I’ll check it out one day
I just finished the game today and I can agree on everything you said about the map and navigation as a whole. I legit had the same issue trying to use the map just to end up going in circles. I will admit I kinda sucked at the combat I had to lower the difficulty and there were times where I just wanted to never play again but at the same time I couldn't stop playing it I really did enjoy it.
I just started to play this on pc and my god its soooo good. I cant remember last time I paused so much to just look around the environment. it really feels like you're playing a star wars film.
Spot on Review. Yeah, the Maps are a merry-go-round Affair... It's a great game, especially on a deep Sale. Cheers. P.S. Maybe "Code Vein" the Waifu Dark Soul is something for you...
First let me say that I don’t work for any gaming industry or the Star Wars franchise . So now that you know where I am headed I get where the makers/developers are coming from and I understand their challenges. I think that they all did a hell of a job on this game and I look fordward to the next installment. I hope that sometime in their future they will meet my list of demands: 1. Open world 2. Real Jedi clothing choices. 3. Vehicles from speeder bikes to controlling AT ATs 4. Space battle, controlling a star ship and fighting tie fighters and such.
I love fallen order so much but you’re totally right, the sequel needs to feel more lived in. That’s what I’ve always loved about Star Wars, it’s fantasy but they don’t shy away from the mundane. Not everyone is a princess or a warrior, some of have jobs to go to.
Me being primarily a SW fan I played the game for the story and lore, characters etc. To this day I haven’t completed 100% of it though, I think the level designs didn’t do it for me. I think I sabotaged myself watching Ep 3 so many times and making the saber dueling and choreography from the film the golden standard in my mind. Sometimes the boss battles killed the immersion for me and, honesty made me want to go play other SW titles like Jedi Academy. I did enjoy the different enemies and creatures, wish they changed the traversal a little bit though. The double jump kind of annoyed me sometimes, seeing as though Jedi can leap great heights.. I felt a little limited playing as Cal both through his abilities and the environment. Definitely excited to see how they approve upon the title though!
I actually thought the 3D hologram map was one of the best maps I've ever used in a game. It was useful enough that i I could plan my route, but it was vague enough that I still got that feeling of exploration instead of just placing a waypoint and walking towards a floating icon on the screen. I guess not everyone will jive with a 3D model but for me it was great (and also felt very star wars).
Probably the worst map in my opinion they could have just put in the left hand side or right hand side of the screen instead of having to pull it up with your controller
Imo it was extremely good. Sadly for some, Star Wars is a super popular franchise so the game being more on the casual side was unavoidable. Elden Ring levels of complexity would have done more harm than good too obviously. Overall it was a great game...
This game was solid, and if nothing else, it introduced me to the soulsborne-type games. I always saw the Dark Souls series and Bloodborne as games that wouldn't be accessible to people like me, a pretty casual gamer. But after I beat this game on Master difficulty, I decided to give Grandmaster a go. I beat that without excessive issues. I've since beat DS3, just still haven't gotten to beating Midir. I'm now playing Bloodborne and having a lot of fun with it - just finished the Old Hunters DLC. Beating Orphan of Kos is a good feeling...
Tried to play it recently but after about 6 hours I got incredibly bored. One day I put the game down for the day and never had any interest to go back. I could indeed really feel the design by committee, and with all the great games out there I still have not played this game felt like a waste of time. Dropped it for ninja gaiden and I am having a way better time with that game.
Started playing this game about a week ago and on my first play through I chose the Jedi Grandmaster difficulty because I'm just a masochist that likes to be punished for mistakes the game actually wants you to learn from. And frustrating as it was sometimes how incredibly punishing the game can be, I absolutely loved it because the one thing I always thought about while playing the game is: it just makes sense. A group of enemies swarms you with unrelenting deadly force? Yup, that's what I'd do if I had numbers advantage. Enemies attack you during finishers or while you're defending from another attack? Makes sense, why would they not exploit an opening like that in a fight for their lives? A clawed monster double your size takes 3/4 of your health in one hit after punishing your carelessness in what is a fight to the death for them (and you, for that matter)? Makes total sense. You have to actually traverse the map where every single enemy is fighting for their lives against you pulling no stops and taking no chances. That just makes sense, and you not having these overpowered abilities that can mow down through swarms of enemies instantly simply makes sense because you're no Jedi master (yet, I suppose). As I started to get good at the game and understood the mechanics better, enemies felt incredibly easy because I finally understood what makes a Jedi a Jedi: their training and experience. You seem unbeatable to the rest of the world, yes, but you're not overpowered because of your abilities themselves, instead it is because of how you've honed them through years and years of training and battle experience. This game simply. Makes. Sense. And I love it for that. Not having fast travel gives a degree of immersion where you actually have to learn the map and its layout because it's just what you have to do to survive as a lone Jedi in a universe where you're hunted. Edit: Also just wanted to mention in case anyone didn't know. Big monsters like spiders and that clawed beast you find in the beginning of Dathomir DO have one shot mechanic, you have to parry their attacks to stagger them, again cementing the idea that it is how you use your skills which makes you overpowered. POGEDIT OMG I GOT MY FIRST HEARTED COMMENT TYSM DOWNWARD, great review btw loved the points you made which are more on good game design and good mechanics!
As someone who's played through it a countless number of times and 100% completed it once, my only issue was the lack of content, yes the story is really good and pretty much 20 hours for it isn't bad, but there just isn't a lot to do after beating the story, there are a few places you can go that you didn't have to in the campaign which are quite cool but not a lot. What I want to see in survivor is: -side quests -A couple planets that you can go to which aren't a part of the main story -Bigger maps (newest trailer definitely indicates that) -Maybe a planet with an arena where you can go to level cal, get new customisation options as rewards and obviously test your skills (I know they eventually kind of added one in the first game but it wasn't very good, they need to make it actually useful to go there, maybe even introduce it in the campaign but you can go back there afterwards) -Populated areas where you get a lot of those side quests after beating the first game it just feels dead going back and playing it after completion, there isn't much point. That is my main issue that needs to be addressed
I think the meditation training brings me back often. And every now and then I like to give myself little challenges like killing stormtrooper squads without a lightsaber etc. I can't say I'll go at this game everyday or even every week for hours at a time but I do enjoy it and I've only done the story twice. I solely like the open worlds but I can garuntee if the world's weren't so dead if play it more.
I am extremely excited for Jedi: Survivor because Fallen Order was one of my favorite games of the last 5 years. It's an introvert's game so if you enjoy hours just exploring by yourself and fighting without contact with any other soul, with the exception of BD-1 (who is awesome btw), then this is your game!
Although I haven't finished this video. I wouldn't call this game soul like at all. It definitely has similarities, but that doesn't mean it's in the same category.
I dont think you understand star wars besides the films. Some planets in star wars are just empty and life less but it gives you that mystical feeling of the all-pervading force. Planets like Ruusan are places that are maddeningly empty and depressing, and places like we had in the game were quite enjoyable. not always the same as in the series and films with densely populated places, towns and villages. abandoned force imbued locations are really important in a game like this. and above all, cantinas are places where jedis don't want to be seen and something like sidequests wouldn't be possible at all. if Cal abides by the jedi kodex, as most cantina jobs involve killing people. I think the game did a very nice job by creating planets like this and they should keep doing that for jedi survivor :)
Honestly, I found the map to be very helpful and the shortcuts well placed. Sometimes the multileveled areas were a bit more difficult to decipher, but that's more the exception than the rule
The story I wanted was that cere was actually an inquisitior in disguise guiding you to find the location of the next generation of force users for them then betraying you at the end. I didnt like the ending we got.
I finished the game today and I felt like we should have been playing as Cere in the final chapter. Especially since Cal's character arc was complete on Dathomir.
@@ROY57ON I don't necessarily agree with the character switch I do agree the finale felt like the end of Cere's arc not cal's so the story feels like it ends unfinished.. I was expecting dlc to continue the story but alas
An excellent review. One point I'd add to this is how inconsistent the attention to detail was. When Cal walks away from a conversation, he excuses himself by saying "I need a minute". I appreciate such details. Footprints in snow or mud. On the other hand, his hair doesn't get wet when he goes in the water, and underwater sections are so devoid of detail, they may as well have been taken from the first tombraider game. These are just two examples but I found attention to detail to be excellent in some aspects and really deplorable in others.
And yes the combat is pretty iterative of what came before but it's still amazing that Respawn, a mostly FPS studio before this, could do such a good job with a souls-vania/character-action mashup
i just finished the game for the first time yesterday. I actually enjoyed it a lot and i don’t even know all the lore of star wars expect of course the main characters. I enjoyed the combat and movement system and can’t wait for the second game
One of my favorite games of recent years. Your critique seems very reasonable still, though. The issues you mention are definitely there (although I had personally no issue with the world being relatively empty or such, I felt it added to the atmosphere they tried for) and no, Fallen Order is not a very original game. Respawn definitely knew what they were doing when putting it together, they built a solid base upon with its successor can hopefully improve. I am looking forward to trying Survivor next year.
this game was really great, but backtracking could be really frustrating. I also wish there wore more collectibles to find, side quests to do, and more enemies to fight after you’ve already completed the story. after you get the collectibles and finish the story, there’s nothing really to keep you playing
I couldn't agree more with the level design. I had 3 Stims for 85% of the game, and then in the last little bit, I had 6. That's because finding them was organic. But still stupid. The lack of ability to move backwards through an area is irritating. Is it worth playing? Yeah just for the lightsaber action and using the force is always a win
I love this game. Played on PS4 then later PS5. I love the atmosphere and story and the gameplay is brilliant. I do agree about the level design though. It can be easy to get stuck when looking for secrets and be hard to get back on to the main path. If they fix this for the sequel it'll be amazing
While not exactly a critical darling, I absolutely love Jedi Fallen Order. When I played this game at release, I had not seen Star Wars Rebels, so this was my introduction to the inquisitors. I think this was a much better introduction to them than Rebels would have been for me because they were way cooler in this game than in rebels imo
It was a little frustrating in the start. Like it didn’t tell me anything, how im doing stuff, what i can do and cannot. Lightsabers should have had more customization like sound, that spinny thing, and of course more clothing/looks. I wish that we could customize what type of battle “mode” you want. Like if you want to battle aggressive or passive, it’s not a big deal but it would be cool!
I really wish I could have enjoyed this one better. But I felt during the boss fights my perry was unreliable. It would randomly fail, and I'm not talking about those red glow attacks. This really slowed down momentum which I reliably had against most other enemies.
I launched the games not expecting much, but I didn't know that it would have metroid vania elements with the world design of Dark Souls 1 tbh. Being a playstation user, for years I had that Zelda'esque itch and this game it satisfying it to my surprise.
One of my biggest gripes with this game (and lots of other games too, if I'm being honest), is that by the time you're feeling like a truly powerful Jedi, you have all your gadgets and powers unlocked and the flow of combat feels natural, the game is over, and there's no way to replay the story without starting over from with only the basic abilities. You can go back to the various maps and run through the basic NPCs again, but not having the option to redo the story with all of your abilities unlocked (like the Arkham games do) really feels like a missed opportunity.
Just finished the game (Xbox One). I can tell this was made for next gen because the performance issues are constant and made combat thoroughly unenjoyable with unresponsive button inputs and some questionable decisions with the controller layout. As for the characters, I really like the development and range of characters I encountered. Although Cal and BD-1 were the only characters I formed any attachment with for the first half of the game. The moment the antagonist took off the helmet I stopped taking them seriously and started wondering if there was another antagonist to be revealed later. Frankly I enjoyed the villain encounters on Dathomir more as I feel like a lot of intrigue of the 2nd sister had diminished by that point. Elements of the story I really enjoyed, especially the battle on Kashyyk and the journey of certain characters. However it felt odd how focused the story was on Cere since she took a back seat for most of the game. There were times near the end where I felt like Cere should have been standing where Cal was since his story pretty much concluded after Dathomir. I liked the open world aspect of the game, the exploration was one of my favourite parts of the game. However not being able to teleport made the game a slog at parts, especially when going between Zeffo and Kashyyk for the story. It felt like the devs wanted to add filler to pad the game out which most of the time made it difficult to get invested in the story. Despite the promise the game has, I can't rate the game any more than 5/10 for how abysmal the frame rate, stuttering issues and bugs were. It should have never been released on the previous gen.
I just picked this up on steam for less than 10 bucks on sale. I just completed the sphere puzzle and now Im hooked. It was so satisfying to work out and now ready to move on to next planet. I was gonna skip this game but the sale is more than worth it!
I wonder how many people have figured out the move he missed in the video where if you leap forward and then time it perfectly you’ll vault and twist over the top of enemies. One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen and is ridiculously effective
Maannnn I remember spinning that map until I was dizzy navigating that ice world... it was the worst. The poncho thing was funny to me (who the hell is wearing that pepto bismo colored mess.) I thought the sabers and hilts was cool but the camera is so far you cant enjoy the details of the hilts. The game was really cool though. If the sequel is more of the same, I'll take it... just PLEASE add a force directional guide on planets that are built like mazes and make paths traversible in BOTH directions... like you said, nobody wants to have to go halfway around a map because they cant go back up a garbage shoot and theres no elevator or damn steps... lol... smh Oh and the platforming on sone of tge levels was next tier... I loved that.
I disagree on some points. - Combat was good, but on more than one occassion I felt the enemies recover stamina too quickly and dont take enough chip damage from blocking your attacks whilst they have no problem interrupting you with their own parry after 1 or 2 blows or getting hyperarmor to execute their own attack with no startup. - Map was okay except for Dathomir where the overlapping sections are confusing to follow in the hologram. - No issues with the level design other than the occasional long route, though Dathomir also seems to have a section you can't revisit if you miss the shortcut, which you're allowed to miss and doesn't open up automatically at the end of your visit there. - The exploration is a big and well executed part of the game, and the rewards being story bits and cosmetics might not be everyone's cup of tea but were the best kind of reward I could ask for. The mantis paint jobs were overall pretty uninteresting though. Copying BD-1's paint jobs for the mantis might have yielded more interesting results. Building your own lightsaber steals the show.
Really great story and combat, it could've used a lot less journal stuff, for example, every planet having 3 unique species, one small, one medium and one large but that all fought and played identically, was kind of immersion breaking i found
It’s definitely one of the best Star Wars games we’ve gotten in a long while. The gameplay and action was definitely a 10. My issue with the game is you have to replay certain planets you’ve already beaten twice, just to make the story longer, despite Jedi Fallen Order being a great game it’s story you can easily play through, since I beat the game six times. At least for the next time you replay a mission you get to fight good bosses like Ninth Sister and Second Sister. Another problem I have is getting back to the ship which takes up half of the mission, and you could get lost unless you know the map by heart. But those are my only problems with the game and everything else is perfect about it. Jedi: Survivor is already looking to be a perfect sequel.
I played Fallen Order on gamepass and mostly enjoyed the game, but personally found the combat to be pretty annoying. Felt like Cal was wielding a baseball bat, and force powers took way too long to recharge. Kind of wish they had just given Cal a stun baton for the first part of the game so they could make the lightsaber actually powerful later instead of always being so pathetic, and rebalanced force powers to be a little weaker damage wise but much quicker to recharge to speed up combat. Totally agree on the comments about the map design and sad collectibles. Fast travel between meditation points should have been a thing and saber and cosmetic collectibles should have actually been more like upgrades that change stats/behaviors a bit (not to mention better cosmetics all around).
That people think Elden Ring is one of the greatest games of all time but completely slept passed this games release is insane. This is one of the greatest games ever made - hive minds have bad taste.
This game was an enigma for me. Most of the single players games I play usually have some form of critical acclaim behind them that lead me to give it a go. Other than fromsoft, nearly all of these games have very strong aspects but also very weak aspects in some ways. I.e. I love God of Wars story but enemies feel spongy and annoying in high difficulties and the puzzles are fun at first but repetitive by the end. Or the Witcher 3, those are some of the best quest lines I’ve played but the exploration felt almost pointless unless a quest lead you to an area first. But when I tried Fallen Order it wasn’t because of critical acclaim or popularity, it was because it was a Star Wars game. The fact that it has souls and uncharted elements felt like a bonus. As I played I realized there was very little that I didn’t like about the game. While nothing felt revolutionary it all felt good! The story was fun, the combat was fun, the puzzles were fun and nothing took too long or felt too pointless. At the end of the day it’s one of the more enjoyable single player experiences I’ve ever had, and nothing made me want to set it aside or move on to another game halfway through like so many other iconic games did.
I’m certain on repeat playthroughs I would find issues that annoyed me more, but the fact I made it through the game quite quickly without any real pauses or brakes still sets this game apart for me when compared to other games I mentioned
The game was (nearly) perfect - for me. I just wish they would've added more RPG-features, to be similar to KOTOR. Only that it has this beautiful and awesome dynamic combat system. I enjoyed combat so much and it almost felt like Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast 2
The stage problem you have is apparent in a lot of games I usually put that negative in a whole than rather the game itself. But you right about the Map it’s hard to understand. I only understood it after my game plus play through
Tbh, short. I felt like I was just getting about half way into the game and BAM! Big Daddy Skywalker shows up after getting back to the ship...credits.
I haven’t played KOTOR, so i’d definitely call it my favorite Star Wars game. Though perhaps a bit less challenging exploration-wise on repeat playthroughs.
I liked the Metroidvania aspect of Fallen Order and its exploration. Problem was the reward - ponchos!! I couldn’t care less about all the outfits and it’s a shame that developers didn’t put more effort to make traversing somewhat worthy. Still, as a Star Wars game, it deserves a praise and a better sequel.
Anyone else excited for Jedi: Survivor? Would love to know what you're expecting or hope to see improved/added in.
Any video games you guys want to see me cover? Let me know. Also, I have an end of year video coming soon, so stay tuned for that before Christmas!
You should totally play a Yakuza game, especially Yakuza 0, they have amazing combat and an amazing story. I think that you would love it!
Also found you because of efap, and the interview you had with then was amazing
any of the fatal frames or bayonetta 3. also totally agree with milica on playing yakuza 0. one of the best stories in a game ive ever played
this entire video felt like the intro to your actual review
Contrary to popular opinion, I liked the open world and collectables in this game FAR more than most other games. I did not have to use a guide to get everything, and it did not feel like a chore like most games these days. Lack of fast travel made it semi realistic which helped make you feel like a part of the world as you had to walk back to your ship every-time. Even the fact that loading screens were disguised as travel time was quite cool
I agree
i also like the archives that bd-1 had so i could find out a lot of new stuff about star wars canonical world and events. learning from video games is one of the coolest thing ever and i remember more from it, so i really love the fact that this is canon. i can just sit down and read the archives, which is really cool.
I found the exploration part one of the most pleasurable ones of the game.
@@Maddog-xc2zv that's fair, there's only so much backtracking I'm able to do when the game does a concerted effort to make that as tedious as possible, especially when I've circled around more than once to spot hard-to-find collectibles
Being unable to skip cutscenes is a huge issue for replayability.
@@Wizard_PikachuI do agree not having the hability to skip those cutescenes, at least while replaying, is quite annoying
Lol, yes. It was so annoying to get all the achievements, and then they added those stupid combat challenges.
I liked how much smoother the lightsaber combat got after you unlocked more moves. It shows that Cal regained his skill with a lightsaber and even improved past what he was as a Padawan. Plus the little animations he does after a battle where he puts his lightsaber away are cool.
The wide-eyed optimism of Cal was a welcome change from all the snark or brooding of ALL other video game protagonists
ALL other? Have you not played many games? What a ridiculous overstatement.
BD-1 was the heart of it all, a lot of times cal questions himself and just having bd-1 there helped
@@tiggs03 I have played hundreds of games since 1992, and the trend is very obvious. "All" is obviously a hyperbole.
@zetta _ yes, agreed.

Trilla was definitely one of the most underrated Star Wars antagonists in any SW game.
Fantastic antagonist
Underrated? What space rock have u been under?
Everyone loves her & wish she wasn't potentially dead.
But if anything it can get retconned & nobody will bat an eye.
@@LordNexusTheFir What's wrong with considering her as underrated?
and she was only a young padawan when caught by the empire. great, great character.
What exactly did you not like abou the end??
Was it the sudden appearance of a certain character or what else???
@@InternetRat if you think this game is mediocre I’m sorry. You clearly have un reachable expectations. Maybe the problem is with YOU. Not the game.

I thought you had to explore it during the story? I got about 99 percent on the first run and I’m replying it without the need to get the collectibles
I really enjoyed the story focus on the lore of the force. Also really liked Cal as a character and would love to see him show up in a movie
@@protector_of_the_realms please name the contradictions
What's ironic is I felt that God of War Ragnarok's gameplay got really old damn fast.
Respect for actually beating her on that level, let alone not knowing you could have more stims lol
Dismemberment is never going to happen unless we get a mod. 😔
gone are those moment's where grenades' and light saber's dismember
[SPOILERS]
When Darth Vader shows up at the end that was probably one of my favourite moments of the Star Wars franchise tbh.
Saw a video review a while ago that summed it up perfectly: *”It’s a game with good icing.”*
While the gameplay is really wonky and it takes like an hour into the game to get through all the tutorial levels, the story and visuals are really good.
Totally dude. I literally just stopped using the map because it made it so much harder to tell where I was or where I was supposed to go.
Watching this review I CAN'T WAIT to see your Jedi: Survivor review! I know you gonna love it haha
I loved how raw the combat felt. You really felt a sense of weight behind each strike and block. It wasn’t over the top bullshit like Force Unleashed.
Trilla is what Reva in Kenobi show should have been
She just turned out whiny. But Disney is incapable of making anyone with a red lightsaber not whiny.
Fallen Order, or as I like to call it: "when not being shit is the new good"
Pretty much lol
OMG the map part is Soo true,it took me 2 days to get out of Boganno cause the map kept leading me the wrong way so i had to look it up on UA-cam 🤣
This is one of the only games I actually finished in the last 5 years. That speaks volumes for me
Spot on Review.
I hope that sometime in their future they will meet my list of demands:
1. Open world
2. Real Jedi clothing choices.
3. Vehicles from speeder bikes to controlling AT ATs
I’m glad it gel’d with ya. :)
What I want to see in survivor is:
-side quests
-A couple planets that you can go to which aren't a part of the main story
-Bigger maps (newest trailer definitely indicates that)
-Maybe a planet with an arena where you can go to level cal, get new customisation options as rewards and obviously test your skills (I know they eventually kind of added one in the first game but it wasn't very good, they need to make it actually useful to go there, maybe even introduce it in the campaign but you can go back there afterwards)
-Populated areas where you get a lot of those side quests
after beating the first game it just feels dead going back and playing it after completion, there isn't much point.
Totally agree
Didn't realize this was a soul's game till now. Makes sense how i was dying over and over in the TUTORIAL
Second favorite game of all time, god of war 2018 is my first
Honestly, I found the map to be very helpful and the shortcuts well placed.
This is the most accurate review i have read ever! Great job. I agree with you completely.
Really enjoyed this video man keep up the good content
That scene when that kyber crystal breaks is probably one of the best Star Wars scenes
I love this game. Played on PS4 then later PS5. I love the atmosphere and story and the gameplay is brilliant.
I do agree about the level design though. It can be easy to get stuck when looking for secrets and be hard to get back on to the main path.
If they fix this for the sequel it'll be amazing
been watching for years bud great vid and love jedi order
Even on last gen it's still a gorgeous game
@DownwardThrus ʏᴏᴜ'ᴠᴇ ᴡᴏɴ ᴀ ɢɪꜰᴛ
Will never forget doing a grandmaster no damage run for the Fortress Inquisitorious. Inquisitor Cal is op
If the sequel is more of the same, I'll take it... just PLEASE add a force directional guide on planets that are built like mazes and make paths traversible in BOTH directions... like you said, nobody wants to have to go halfway around a map because they cant go back up a garbage shoot and theres no elevator or damn steps... lol... smh
Oh and the platforming on sone of tge levels was next tier...
Perfect time to upload this 👌🏽
Really great story and combat, it could've used a lot less journal stuff, for example, every planet having 3 unique species, one small, one medium and one large but that all fought and played identically, was kind of immersion breaking i found
It’s definitely one of the best Star Wars games we’ve gotten in a long while.
It was so good bro one of the best games I ever played and I’m so looking forward to the next game!
You didn't even bother mentioning the meditation training aspect. Like one of its best features!
Everything you talked about is great. One major selling point though: You get to drive an AT-AT. I'll repeat that: YOU GET TO DRIVE AN AT-AT.
That people think Elden Ring is one of the greatest games of all time but completely slept passed this games release is insane.
This is one of the greatest games ever made - hive minds have bad taste.
2:41 The feedback of hitting stuff with a lightsaber...
Ah yes, baseball lightsaber
I loved it allthough it was very short imo. Really exited for the sequel
