Soldiers are your best bet for early tower defense and later as a base quick reaction force. A ranger takes four shots to kill a normal zombie, a soldier takes three and fires faster. Rangers serve better as early scouts till you get enough soldiers to effectively clear out zombie groups with impunity, I would recommend 25 soldiers minimum. Once you have them, place a sniper in each tower with three soldiers. between them, they can kill two zombies per weapon volley. So far I have not found a tower combo with a better kill ratio.
Well the first step would be to put the towers BEHIND the walls, possibly double layered. the zombies hitting the tower easily tear it down and not only open a path but force your troops to retreat. To be fair, the lack of killing power on the rangers really doesn't help with numbers like that. I do want to see you play this again.
If you leave an open path in this game will the zombies take it? Do they just take the shortest distance to the town? If they pathfind for open places in walls you can build kill mazes like in Age of Empires to wipe the zombies out on the way in.
I think your defense layout here is absolutely going to get in trouble as the horde sizes increase, your walls are far too long, you want to have the least possible surface area for zombies to hit. I think if you would push out more greedily between hordes to set up defenses at narrower choke points you would do much better
Well lets look at wall design 101, Holding choke points are good but in this case you are also funneled by the choke it seems and keeping a huge number of enemies tight together is only good if you have massive aoe attacks. I think trying find a balance between having enough firepower and spreading out enough to thin the number attacking each defensive group. Disclaimer I haven't played this game at all but i do plan to do so.
Zombie: can i come over on the right side? Ranger: No!no!no! Zombie: can i come over on the left side? Ranger: No!no!no! NO! Zombie: Want some help to build the wall? Ranger: yeah ok sure.
+Toastmaster1990 People make jokes about it because people are so sensitive about the jokes. People making an edgy joke tend to love the reaction that overly sensitive people ALWAYS give them. Jokes like this would stop if people had thicker skin and stopped reacting.
Discovered the game and bought it thanks to your gameplay. For any videogame companies out there, UA-camRS ARE BETTER FOR YOU THAN GAME JOURNOS! Spend your advertising budget wisely.
The best plan of action for this game is to quickly send your rangers to search for goods packages scattered around the map, and quickly getting a wood workshop up. Then research the Great Ballistae which is an automatic tower, which means that you can spend much less on troops and their deaths. They also have splash damage and are amazing at getting rid of small hordes. For the big hordes, you need a shocking tower, from the stone workshop.
Like others have said, you should focus on using natural terrain features to construct chokepoints. In addition to focusing the zombies into narrower zones where you can overlap multiple fields of fire, this will afford you much more room for building. I recommend watching a few of Master of Rolfness's videos for examples of what I mean.
Choke points, control avenues of approach, defense in depth. With what I learned as an Active Duty type, this game looks like it would be a blast. I might have to hook this up.
I have never played this game before. I have never seen gameplay of it before the first episode of this series. And yet, now watching it, even I am sitting here screaming "YOU HAVE FULL STONE AND WOOD HOLY CRAP USE IT"
bases should be like onions in layers. wood is cheap and it buys you time. a few layers of walls and towers with enough space to fall back on will allow you to survive longer
SplatterCat when you start a game, you should look for iron and stone. If it is not near your base then you better start a new game, because you wont be able to defend your base. Especially iron, because without it you wont be able to produce soliders. So before 1st horde you should have at least 1 tower full of(4) soliders(8 iron) or rangers with walls. With that you will be able to secure your base for the second horde. And to fight it, you should have 2 full towers of soliders with double walls.
Unit acknowledgements can be amazing. It was one of my favourite things in Starcraft. Just sit and click the units repeatedly to hear what they had to say.
Hey Splat! If you do not want spoilers or tips do not read further!! / Just some info I ve gathered so far: Zombies spawned on the map originally will join the final assault, so turtleing up is not enough. Zombies have infected buildings on the map, so far Ive seen max 3 colonies but maybe more. These are hard to kill usually you need 20+ gun soldiers just to hold them back, altho adding a Lucifer flamethrower unit should be enough. Compartmentilize as much as you can, late game attacks chew through 2 layers of stone walls in no time even when backed up by several gun turrets, so expect loosing a lot of ground./ Love ya bro keep up the good work!
This game looks really interesting. I like how the description of the archers mentions that they're silent... I guess that means that there's a tradeoff between killing zombies effectively and making too much noise with guns and explosives. For a single player RTS, this game looks like it has a lot of potential.
I put an extra outer wall outside of the tower. It helps a TON. Plus, making sure a soldier or two get veteran status is SUPER helpful. Cheers and good luck!
Double or maybe even triple-layer your walls: Zambies seem to go through those wooden walls like tissue paper, so you'll need layers to slow them down. You probably also need to expand aggressively into any choke points you can find to compensate, so the gaps your walls need to close are as small as possible.
Hey man, I watch your playthroughs on a lot of games. Especially games that no one really covers! Its great that you give all sorts of games a chance for others to check out. I wish a lot more did! I think the best part of your show is that the games you do give a go are the ones I am most interested in. I like finding those little indie games that everyone else seems to pass up. Looking forward to more playthroughs on your chan, thanks!
Ballistas in the game are surprisingly good at taking out waves. Found the things can kill a bunch of zombies simultaneously while having a decent reload rate of about 2 seconds.
Never seen someone be so calm in face of threat. "Oh look a huge wave of zombies, but that's okay let me just move my camera away and do nothing about it. Doing nothing helps! In fact this is a wipe! It seems we lost, what a surprise" .
Just a kind suggestion. You need to section up the base a lot more. You have the terrain working to your benefit, so use that to create several pockets inside your base. If you get breached it can be contained :)
Their should be a button that you can click that will have untis move as far as they can but aslo let's them auto attack when enemies get in range so you can let the clear out an area on their own kinda like starcraft
Thanks for my new addiction...btw, I think you’re doing well with the way you cast. You seem to have a calm demeanor and natural talent for casting these videos. Keep it up!
two tips bout wall building, build towers behind the wall not part of the wall, this may seem as bad becuse its reducing range it keeps your soldiers on towers much longer build a wall and towers ahead of it in areas where there is no resources or is just a choke point for killing, dont have max soldiers in each tower as your meant to fall back tower to tower while the wall stops zombies from going further into your territory so keep one or two soldiers on towers behind the wall
After seeing your first video, I went out and bought this game. Addicting as hell. I've gotten to day 70 once and then was owned. Very tough but very fun.
I think your biggest mistake was, to build your towers IN the wall. You should place them behind it to give them extra defence. This way, the Zombies have to destroy the wall first before they can get to the tower, which gives your archers there more time to shoot at them.
Like I said in your previous video; build your tower behind the wall; that way the tower is protected longer. Like I said before the soldiers make noise and attract zombies; rangers seem to work better to clear out zombies standing around your camp. They prevent others from moving in because of the noise. I don't think you need to wall off against the woods; I believe that the woods act as a wall. You realllly need ballistae!
Build the forests into your defence. Zombies can't travel through them so you can build a wall up to the forest edge and then continue the wall on the other side of the forest.
It reminds me a bit of Infested Planet, where you're outnumbered by infinity and its all about the chokepoints. Identity and aggressively secure chokepoints, then pack those chokepoints full of the heaviest firepower you have available, and then on top of that layer your defenses. Put up walls behind walls. Put up decoy walls to distract the zombies. Funnel them into a narrow gap where their numbers count for nothing. Though it seems archers don't have nearly enough punch to get the job done. Where's the machineguns? Flamethrowers? Landmines? Archers seem like a very basic scout unit, not a real combat unit.
I saw a pro go double walls. Even a triple wall, with the third wall being a stand alone wall. He insisted on not using towers, but did stress the use of balista towers.
Good day good sir Splatt, i unfortunately keep missing your streams due to my new job and my gf AND college but I still dedicate time to your awesome vids. Speaking of I love this game and I really want to see more. Stay awesome dude :)
Double layer your walls since you had plenty of wood, and use choke-points to make the smallest defensive line possible. Good luck on your next playthrough.
I rush the ballista, especially if I have a great wood source around the camp. I don’t even buy soldiers until I pass the first wave maybe around day 20 is when I start getting archer to expand my base
more splat more!!! use the choke points get balista as fast as possible early wave tech as fast as you can while expanding as much as possible but keeping your main base defended big walls with what you have is bad but your learning ive only made it to day 69 (not joking...) you can do it splat

I agree, use the lakes and hills as choke points, with a tower on either end of a gate.
yeah there are enemy buildings that pour out units every second.
nope thats exactly what will get you fuckt in the long run. long walls with balista's will work way better
not only that... layers and layers of walls... just walls around the towers so they cant hit the tower first... he just plays like a scrub...
Well lets look at wall design 101, Holding choke points are good but in this case you are also funneled by the choke it seems and keeping a huge number of enemies tight together is only good if you have massive aoe attacks. When he said “put rounds on kids” I laughed my ass off
he built a wall and made the zombies pay for it
They're attacking people, they're eating brains, they're cannibals and some I assume are good zombies.
Zombie: can i come over on the right side?
Ranger: No!no!no!
Zombie: can i come over on the left side?
Ranger: No!no!no! NO!
Zombie: Want some help to build the wall?
Ranger: yeah ok sure.

I’d love to see more, for sure. This is really cool, and I like your playstyle.
Most entertaining play through of this game on UA-cam ^_^ appreciate the fact you are new to it and not one those speed run type twitch streamers!

Another Episode please!!! This game has my attention in a good way.
This game deserve more than others on mainstream.
Congrats on the 400k! Been here not too long now, but I would like to see more!
Those damn zombie swarns. Always swarnning around, attacking my walls.
I put an extra outer wall outside of the tower. It helps a TON. Plus, making sure a soldier or two get veteran status is SUPER helpful. Cheers and good luck!

Yeah another one! Love it
I love your videos man. You are one of my favorite youtubers, I don't comment much but just wanted to share words of encouragement !
This game looks great, I would definitely love to see more! Please do another playthrough!
lol. technologically confused zombie could be its own standup comedy show XD
Never seen someone be so calm in face of threat. "Oh look a huge wave of zombies, but that's okay let me just move my camera away and do nothing about it. Doing nothing helps! In fact this is a wipe! It seems we lost, what a surprise" .
bro, its a video game. Its not a threat.
I guess bobcat goldthwait found a gig as a zombie voice guy...lol
so many great rts coming out, frost and now this, oh my. this holiday gona be full.
Just a kind suggestion. You need to section up the base a lot more. You have the terrain working to your benefit, so use that to create several pockets inside your base. If you get breached it can be contained :)
That "zombie voice" made me think back to the Police Academy movies. The one where they find the gang member that ends up being a cop later.
I love that your zombie voice was pretty much Bobcat Goldthwaite.
Keep it up!
Thank you for introducing this game to me.
I’d very much love to see more of this game, splattercat
Welcome back RTS, oh how we've missed you :)

yeah i would love to see some more game play!
2 things you should do -1) build your walls then place towers behind them - 2) build a double wall as it buys you a whole lot more time.
This game looks Outstanding! More please!
me and my dad love this please play more
I love how you made the zombie sound like bobcat goldthwaite
I think your biggest mistake was, to build your towers IN the wall. You should place them behind it to give them extra defence. This way, the Zombies have to destroy the wall first before they can get to the tower, which gives your archers there more time to shoot at them.
He noob af
Having rangers as a main defensive unit was not a good idea. Having them as a group that you send around on flanks would be a good idea.
I love this! Your narration is really awesome too :)
I'd love for you to keep playing this game for a bit. It's very entertaining. :D
I like the looks of this game, I'd watch more of these vids for sure.
Like I said in your previous video; build your tower behind the wall; that way the tower is protected longer. Awesome game... Thanks for the series!!! Would love to see more.
Interesting and fun-looking game, great commentary, and you showcase the game well all-around. New subscription confirmed.
You need them machine guns, son!
GG.
This was an awesome play through!!
Build the forests into your defence. Zombies can't travel through them so you can build a wall up to the forest edge and then continue the wall on the other side of the forest.
Turtle tech. Game looks made for it. And that's excellent.
Definitely would enjoy seeing more!
Man I remember when I started watching you back when dying light came out
This game has great potential. I'll keep a tab on this game.
should play more of this splatt even if you did a stream of it really enjoyed this cant wait for it to come out
This was great, I would love to see you play more of this! Please do so.
Definitely play some more of this, really fun to watch
More, there should be.
- Yoda
did you ever build the research building? Cause you can get Ballista towers and spike barricades.
Great game !
😊
Thanks, Splatty. 🙏

Hey dude, your soldier's gun is LOUD and attracts more zombies to it.
oh man, this so cool. KEEP PLAYING
I would love to see more Splat.
lol :D Good zombie impersonation right there at 2:27
Bobcat zombie at 2:30 love it!
I saw a pro go double walls. Even a triple wall, with the third wall being a stand alone wall. He insisted on not using towers, but did stress the use of balista towers.
If the hoard started from the West side, I don't think you would have much trouble since you've practically wiped zombies in that part
Charming fella. I dig the the vids.
Good day good sir Splatt, i unfortunately keep missing your streams due to my new job and my gf AND college but I still dedicate time to your awesome vids. Speaking of I love this game and I really want to see more. Stay awesome dude :)
Splat, put those towers behind walls. Also, you can click unload from tower directly into other tower.
I just bought this game today. Peace brother.
Double layer your walls since you had plenty of wood, and use choke-points to make the smallest defensive line possible. Good luck on your next playthrough.
I would like to see more of this on the channel. If it get popular possibly even a post release later as well.
Put towers behind the walls, to many archers archer for defense and Soldiers for offense and reinforcements.
Bought the game on Steam. Thanks for your playthrough!
It would really love it if you did a long play of this!
Man! Your resource capacity has been maxed out for soo long, lol, build a barracks, get more men, construct additional pylons
Put the towers one behind walls, instead of using them as walls. Keeps them protected and will save you cash in the long run.
I'd love to see more! My wallet hates you cause I nearly always pick up games after you play them
I rush the ballista, especially if I have a great wood source around the camp. I don’t even buy soldiers until I pass the first wave maybe around day 20 is when I start getting archer to expand my base
I'm ready to purchase this game when I'm free.
I'd love to see more, thank you
I only have 12 hours, but from my experience the balista towers are a necessity!
more splat more!!! use the choke points get balista as fast as possible early wave tech as fast as you can while expanding as much as possible but keeping your main base defended big walls with what you have is bad but your learning ive only made it to day 69 (not joking...) you can do it splat
yes you got wiped but it was a lot of fun to watch bro....thumbs up and keep up the good work !!!!
