I was lucky enough to stumbled upon this guitar on a local store specialized in importing 2nd hand or old Japanese goods. I got it for $80 USD. It's missing a Volume knobs and the wiring has gone loose. I manage to clean it up & redo the wiring. It's now one of my favourite guitar. This guitar look "boutique" in real life or in your hand. Hopefully I will find another one in the future.

I really appreciate that you cleaned it and restored what was already there. You didn't repaint it, or upgrade the parts or modernize it. You made it shine again without taking away it's natural age or patina. Thank you for respecting this beautiful old guitar

He didn't do a setup, recrown the old frets, or make a new nut. 🤔
All he did was polish a turd.

@@mattrogers1946 I agree he should've done those things, but maybe he didn't have the tools available or something. But I'm every other regard I think he did a good job. Not everyone is a luthier. Maybe he handled the clean up and had a tech handle the set up later on. Maybe he's happy just to clean up the guitar.

This is a Mosrite clone, which is actually an American design. 99% of Japanese guitars in those days were clones. It wasn't until companies like Ibanez got sued that they started coming out with original designs. But some of their clones were still very well built and can fetch big bucks even today.

the bridge saddles, held in place by only string tension but with the retainer cover, look similar to Brian May's Red Special Bridge saddles. Except with his break a string and they just fall out! Fascinating Mosrite/Jaguar -inspired space-aged style. its like every part was artfully designed with aesthetic of form and function

I really love the shovel of that guitar!!
    That shape is so beautiful...!!
But, I believe that you should have Sandblasted and erased the cracking paint of the front side of the shovel, as well as the whole cracking paint from the body.
You could have re-painted it in sparkle black. It would look more aggressive and elegant at the same time... And those cracks hurt...😖
    Anyway... Good job, man!!

All it needs after all that meticulous cleaning is a good setup: intonation, string height, trussrod adjustment.
Looks to be in great condition for its age 👍😎

I wish I would find one like this Guyatone nearby.

Guya Tone Guitars sell for $400 to $1800 US, they're appreciated in all ranges of condition, but generally better off unrestored, I'm glad you chose that path! This is a very interesting part of Japans history in electric guitars, an experimental era from what I've seen. Some of GT's models were simple flat slabs of wood, while others are complex combinations of electronics, and design elements that remind me of Fender Jaguar's, some were semi hollow body, and borrow from more American body styles, like the Gibson DC, and ES series. GT certainly developed their own very interesting and unique style, elegant and radical curves, with extreme cuts and headstock designs, the quality is all over the place, as you'd expect from a maker with a wide range of models, so while the playability is questionable and likely dependent on your style of playing, nobody can deny their collectability as pieces of art, and part of Japans rich historical partnership with musicians all over the world to create something new and interesting, imagine where we'd be without the imagination of Japanese luthiers, to this day some of the best Fender Stratocasters, and "super strats" were/are Japan made :)
