I have been battling trying to set up the 2100 on the wife’s 71 F250. Lots of info out there on set this and that, but I never understood why/how the relationship works. I can’t wait to start over on the settings this weekend and hopefully solve my issues. Fantastic descriptions, explanations and video work SHOWING each aspect. Outstanding explanation for a non-car guy like me. I have a 68 Galaxie fastback w original engine/carb/intake, etc. and the choke was basically stuck, so the spring didn’t move anything as it heated up. Taking this apart made me nervous but it worked- so car can now start without keeping accelerator pedal floored. Now I just have no fast idle at all so I will try turning it that screw underneath the choke mechanism IF I CAN REACH IT.
I have no words to discribe how well this video explain the automatic choke. Best video on utube take it from some that learned all of that back in 1976 from my uncle who had a carburator shop and I worked at his shop working only on vehicles with carburator problems

Y O U ARE A W S O ME !!! Bought a new 2100 for my 66 Mustang. It went well a while until I moved to a colder place. Got several "mechanics" on it to recover cold start behaivior - no one could realy improve it. But after watching your instructions I did it and it works. Great video. Perfect. Thank you
I'm new and learning all of this for the first time. So, please be patient with me. I have a stock, 1967 Mustang. With a stock 289, 2 barrel stock carburetor. Right now, when it has a cold start, it runs at 1000 rpm. When warm, it runs 1100 rpm. I've been told, it should be 700-750 rpm on a cold start. And 600 - 650 rpm after it's warmed up. I played with the fast idle screw and got it down to around 800 rpm cold. But it keeps dieing. I have to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running. If I have to keep my foot on the gas, it's hard to adjust the screw at the same time. So I have to wait till the car cools off each time to adjust the screw, and try again. This will take forever. And I don't know if I'm even doing it right to start with. So I turn the fast idle screw to the right to increase my rpm at cold start up. Then turn the throttle adjustment screw to the left, to slow down the warm idle rpms. Is this correct? Also, the screw on the plastic piece connecting the choke to the idle cam, on mine is all like wet noodles in there. I can move parts all over and it don't move anything else. Want to make a trip to Ohio and teach me what I'm doing wrong?
Great video, very good explanation. What I’m missing is a step by step procedure, because I find it quite hard to get all the linkages work together as intended. My problem is, if I set the choke housing to specified mark, the opening after stepping on the throttle and the opening under pull off, the flap doesn’t fully open when hot. Also, the engine dies for a few tries directly after startup.
Prefect explanation why I have to force my choke closed on NEW carb.. till it warms up... (in other words) don't let relatives adjust your new carb when you first put it on. so now i can adjust this tomorrow so it works properly..
Great video. However, I'd like to add some info to the choke cap portion. Bill's correct in that adjusting the cap will change how long (time) the fast idle is engaged. He doesn't really fully explain the why. As you know on OEM caps there is a rich and lean directional arrow with rotation. So both are correct. When turned counterclockwise Bill correctly indicates that the warmup time will be longer. The "why" is because the butterfly will be closed more, thus providing a richer environment which correlates with the cap directional arrows. A richer environment does not burn as hot and therefore will take longer to heat up exhaust temps and this longer for the cap thermostat spring to expand and longer time spent in fast idle choke. Rotating the cap the other direction (clockwise) will thus decrease the warmup time. Bill is correct here too. The butterfly will be open more and thus a leaner environment will be created and correlate to the cap arrows. A leaner environment will burn hotter and exhaust temps will rise quicker, shortening cap spring expansion time and distance. All in all, a superb video for explanation of the 2100 and 2150 function!

I'm having same issue with mine. Or on the first press of throttle, it won't fully close the choke plate.
