It's the sugar and seed oils. Italians eat lots of carbs, olive oils, meats. Which some consider unhealthy, but really they're not. American's food culture is high fructose corn syrup fried in soybean oil. I go to the grocery store and foods you wouldn't typically think to have added sugar, does.
Bread, peanut butter, oatmeal, "breakfast" foods that are basically dessert. Bacon, baked beans, canned fruit and soups, sugary yogurts and milks, sauces (like pasta sauce), dressings, crackers, smoothies, and of course, flavored coffee. Don't even consider Starbucks, everything is a sugar bomb.

@@Bloxicorn Last June I cut carbs to a minimum, like maybe 25g per day. I'd already cut the sugar right down but wasn't losing much weight. However, after cutting the carbs I went from 12 st 9lbs to 9 st 12lbs in 9 months (177lbs to 138lbs for the Americans; the Europeans can convert it to kilos because I don't deal in silly measurements even though I can do both).
Carbs are converted by the body into glucose but because so many carbs are eaten the body doesn't burn the glucose; instead the liver deals with it and stores it as fat. This why exercise has little effect on weight. There is so much excess glucose in the boldy from the carbs, it is used for energy. If you cut the glucose right down your body will start burning your excess fat for energy.

"If all I had to do was lose weight.." is a statement that negates obesity as an actual disorder. People don't understand that the reasons for being obese are medical ones. If it was so easy to lose weight, obesity would not be a big issue. People are obese for various reasons but it's rarely because they wake up and decide to be 600 lbs. Usually there are deep seeded psychological issues or food addiction or an eating disorder at play. People just assume that all fat people can just change like it is so easy but when you are so obese your body and hormones change making it very difficult to overcome and many would rather just live with it than keep fighting.

When I moved from Germany to Texas, the weight was what shocked me the most. In Germany , even overweight is considered huge. I was bigger than most others while being 20lbs overweight. Then I moved to Texas and I’m one of the smallest people around me. The thing that shocks me the most is the fat children. In Germany, you almost NEVER see a fat child, and if you do it’s an American tourists kid. But here in Texas, so many kids, especially the boys are so big. It hurts my heart seeing them, knowing their parents are setting them up for a life of struggle and health issues.

I'm sorry but there is no way diane was truly as happy as she claimed. I have been morbidly obese. I wasn't even a third of her size, nor was I immobile, but the psychological damage of my relationship with food and the sheer amount of insecurity, lethargy, and mental health issues you live in when you're obese is undeniable. All this food she ate, this heavily processed non-nutritious food, has been scientifially proven to be linked with depression. That's not even delving into the anxiety and contant avoidance of any form of exercise and all the physical limitations you have. Anybody who has successfully lost weight knows that they don't realise how bad it is mentally until they are not there anymore and can look back on it. Diane never really experienced anything that keeps you mentally health - exercise, whole foods, sunlight, good sleep, good relationships etc. I find it hard to believe that she ever truly knew what it was like to feel good and happy.

I used to work for the police here In Australia and I dealt with all of the autopsy reports when there had been a sudden death, which was known as an 83. The thing that stayed with me the most is the pathologist’s description of the deceased before beginning the post mortem. They would describe the appearance of the body ie well nourished female, underweight male, etc. I never want to be (just in case I die unexpectedly) the obese female! It has bothered me enough for years, just that description of a body and apart from gaining 20kg while on cortisone, I have never been overweight in my life. I managed to lose that by myself. Never again, I hated being overweight, it felt awful!!

    • @ailleananaithnid2566
      @ailleananaithnid2566 9 місяців тому +26

I observed a bunch of autopsies. When I was 16 I volunteered at our small community hospital. They got to know me very well bc I planned to go to med school. I was allowed to observe some autopsies on my own time.
Two were memorable. One guy came in on a plane from an overseas flight and collapsed. He was brought to the ER where he died. There was concern that he had some infectious disease (because of where he had flown in from.)
The next was a morbidly obese woman. She was only in her late 30’s when she came in to the ER in full arrest. I got to watch her autopsy. It was the most visually disturbing thing I had ever seen.
The pathologist was forced to change his gloves multiple times bc her body fat made his gloves so greasy. There was real concern that he might cut himself with an knife because everything was greasy from adipose. It was nasty.
If you want to know what this is like, there is a similar full autopsy on UA-cam of an obese female. They don’t blur the images like on “Dr. G.” (Why bother filming then?) This is the real deal. Just search for “Autopsy On An Obese Woman: Obesity Post-Mortem.” (I would post the link but I learned that UA-cam deletes posts containing links.)
This video will open your eyes. Excess fat will destroy your internal organs. In the case of the autopsy I was present at, her liver was inundated with adipose. She had nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Such a shitty way to die!
Warning: The video is really gross. I think of the autopsy I saw every time someone goes on a rant after their PCP urges them to lose weight. No - it’s not fat shaming - it’s saving your life. That’s like complaining when your PCP tells you to quit smoking. No, knucklehead, she’s not picking on you. We’re trying to keep you from dying of emphysema or COPD - another really shitty way to die.

My weight was so easy to maintain as a nurse on a really busy ward & then in memory support aged care, but once I finished up I was really surprised by how quickly I started to gain weight simply because my activity level dropped. GageyyBoyy Family history in health is often given exaggerated importance. Most health problems, like weight, cancer, etc. are behavior/environmental, not genetic, but people tend not to ignore this, maybe out of fear or guilt. The hardest problems to face are self-inflicted. I work in medicine, and one time a patient with severe COPD, from smoking, was extremely tearful about their diagnosis and hospitalization. The next day, they were upbeat, and mentioned that they remembered that in their early 20s they worked in a factory with strong smells, and THAT must of damaged their lungs (not the subsequent 40 years of hard smoking).

@@aritheplebian Started in summer 2018 I weighed in at around 290lbs* (my estimation I didn't start keeping track until I started noticing a significant difference in the way my clothes fit). I stopped getting my period and was generally grossed out by my own reflection. I had pcos symptoms (acne, facial hair, weight gain) it was really effecting my self esteem and health in general. So I looked up diets or hacks that might cure pcos and found keto on youtube and google.
I lost my first initial 60 lbs in a matter of 5 or 6 months because I was very heavy and have steadily been losing weight with moderate exercise and portion control since. I reversed all my symptoms with sensible food choices.
I have my moments where I overeat but I have managed to completely change my lifestyle and outlook on food. I try and stick to low carb but if I take a break I need to be sensible about my food intake. But I usually notice some creep back on. I've started going to the gym recently in addition to at home workouts on youtube (@rachelaust)
I feel amazing healthy and happy these days. Loving yourself makes a world of difference. Which includes being honest with yourself. If I tell myself I'm doing good when I'm binging or overindulging then I'm only setting myself up to fail. I'm a food addict so every day I have to make sure I'm eating the right things in the right amounts. Which got easier as I adjusted my lifestyle to fit with good food and fitness.
For the first time since early childhood I'm not obese! so losing weight was probably the best decision I ever made. Obesity causes a whole slew of health issues that I wasnt ready to have at only 22. And for the first time since jr high I'm in single digit pant sizes and weigh in the low 160s.
I try not to weigh myself too much (I have a series dedicated to that on my channel) but I'm taking a break to get my mind right because it is actually very draining to focus so much on the number. Nowadays I'm focusing on health. 🖤
tl;dr : I was sick and gross so I looked into losing weight to feel better about myself and managed to do so with keto, gym, youtube workouts, water, healthy mindeset.

Seeing the interactions between Tiffany and her son is striking to me because it’s such a positive, healthy relationship. To hear her supporting him in his future, to truly wanting what’s best for him, to taking a life-threatening route to secure a place in that future, it’s truly just so packed with love. Then him being able to laugh and open up around his mother with healthy boundaries (“what girl you like?” “That’s confidential”) man. Heartwarming. I hope they’re doing great nowadays.

Unless you live in a food desert there is no reason to blame the food industry especially in a fire world country. They aren't forcing people to buy junk food, there is a ton of information out there to help you loose weight or eat healthy.

“I don’t mind it because I can still do things” was my dad’s excuse for not losing weight. Then on New Year’s Eve last year he went to bed after midnight and never woke up. How am I supposed to celebrate the New Year this year knowing that at this time last year my dad was dead in bed? I wonder how many of these folks are dead now?
PLEASE if you are struggling with your food and exercise choices but give in because you "can still do things" don't let that be your excuse.

PF680 I’m so sorry for your loss. My Dad died an unexpected death at an early age too. He was a marathon runner and avid weight trainer. It happens to all of us in time. Was your Dad’s death related to his obesity? It sounds like you’re saying it was.

Children are being taught the wrong lessons. Boy says it is his slower metabolism that makes him fat when his friend is not. So not his fault. The next comment from the friend, "I don't mind giving him all my extra food." The overweight kid seems really nice but if he doesn't learn that eating a lot more food than his friend is the main reason he is fat it will lead to a lifetime of blaming all his problems on somebody or something else.
