In 2019, 43 million people in the United States lived below the poverty line, twice as many as it was fifty years before. 1.5 million children were homeless, three times more than during the Great Depression in the 1930s. Entire families are tossed from one place to another to work unstable jobs that barely allow them to survive. In the historically poor Appalachian mining region, people rely on food stamps for food. In Los Angeles, the number of homeless people has increased dramatically. In the poorest neighborhoods, associations offer small wooden huts to those who no longer have a roof. It’s not getting better. It seems to be getting worse.
I live in a card board box under a bridge in chicago. People donate food sonetimes. But the 100 degree heat and cold winters its bad. People die on the street all the time
this is so true. i've been homeless before and had to sleep in my car and in a tent..i hope to god i never end up in thattt situation again, but with no family, as i was a ward of the state....anything could happen very easily causing anyone in my position to become homeless.

I hate when people say that people like this deserve what has happened to them. Being born in a bad place, or having an injury, having some bad luck, or missing one rent payment is not grounds for having your entire life destroyed.
It’s called self awareness and responsibility and respect for yourself all you did just now is give out excuses on why people can live the way they do or not change because of stipulations lol

The fact that in the US we don't do a better job of protecting people and providing a social safety net is an obscenity. Where is the protection for her? For others like her?
I am a dental assistant in Germany and seeing the dentist working and also the dentures being made and given to her made me cry - I feel sooo sorry for them and I am totally touched by the thankfulness she shows , here we will take it for granted but wow it humbled me
We actually have free healthcare, called Medicaid, for the poor disabled. It doesn’t include dental, though. Dental is overlooked here. Even gainfully employed people who have medical and dental insurance (dental is a separate insurance) pay a lot for dental because the insurance doesn’t cover much. I don’t understand it because bad dental health can lead to other medical issues. My son is disabled and I have paid for a lot of his dental care because I can, thankfully. All of that said, this video seems skewed. There are a lot of things here that I don’t agree with. There are a lot of services available here for poor and working poor people. We mostly have a problem with not everyone being able to access affordable healthcare. Even the “affordable healthcare act” that was passed with Obama, medical insurance is expensive. It’s a law now that everyone must have insurance but it’s very expensive unless your poor and has high deductibles so a lot of people who have this insurance can’t afford to use it. The Affordable Healthcare Act” did make it so that insurance companies can’t deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, but then the insurance is to expensive with the high deductibles that cause people to still not seek treatment because they have to pay out of pocket to meet that deductible before the insurance will cover. The government needs to do a better job to make medical care affordable and accessible to all. You either have to be poor or have a job with good insurance. Anyone in between suffers.
Dental cover not included is an atrocity, but its the damn "dental industry " who is a gold mine that controls the lack of availability of dental cover for medicaid and medicare in Australia. Dentists in those part of the world earn insane amounts and protect their business. Makes me sick to the stomach, as dental health is most important for anyone's wellbeing. Its an outrage, its an exapmple of how medical profession has become a tool fir making money , there is no hippocratic oath anymore, just plainly m ake more money. So they can buy another yacht. @@JacqueScherrer
The fact that Eric was very well employed but developed a health problem and then on temporary unemployment had to cover the cost of ridiculously expensive medical treatments by himself; eventually burned through all his savings and was left homeless is an absolute testament to how broken the American healthcare system is.
the healthcare Ive worked in for 43 yrs is horribly expensive do to the lawsuits, insurance and govt regulations that make it so burdensome. Plus having to treat anyone that walks through the doors that aren't even citizens of this country, then they divvy it up and put it on the bills of those that can pay
It's weird how quite some people in the US do not feel nice about people having to live in this situation, yet also think socialism is a bad thing. Socialism is about dividing money in a fairer way, so that one can live a normal life when working 7 days a week. And even when working 5 days a week.
What gets me is when people who are WORKING, often FULL TIME, are homeless. And the concept of major medical issues in your life, JUST ONCE, causing poverty for the rest of your life, is absurd.

@@Chris-yy7qc SO RIGHT! I grew up in a mill town (school years were 1959-1972), and what you described was exactly the situation. None of the moms in the neighborhood had jobs, though a few might have done a LITTLE of something like baking pies or cakes to sell or maybe something like making alterations to clothes, just to make a bit extra, but generally speaking, there was ONE household income most of the time only 40 hours per week. AND this was in non union jobs where we lived, which also provided on the job training. Our high school even had job skills classes that trained students for the work they would be applying for a graduation. A lifetime with the same company, fair pension, no worries. The biggest company in town was locally owned, and though the owners were millionaires, they were not BILLIONAIRES, which is probably a big part of the difference. Also they had they attitude of "Let's see if we can hire a few more people this year" rather than "Let's see how many jobs we can cut"

So many people don't realise how quickly things can turn upside down for you. The place where I had been working at for years was bought and most of the staff who were 21+ were fired, I was left unemployed with no way to pay rent. Finding a job was extremely difficult and I could not keep up with rent, landlord was not understanding and so I had to break my lease and leave. Thankfully I had family I could rely on a few hours away who I stayed with until I got back on my feet, but not everybody has that support system, and if I hadn't I would be homeless. Nobody deserves this. Nobody chooses this.

Most people shocked that she went a week without showering before the gym membership… when covid first hit and the gyms here closed, we had no where to shower for months. We used hoses to wash ourselves freezing cold in a dirt lot, no real shower for about 6 weeks until a recreation center opened it’s showers for van lifers to use. My friend and I drove 10+ hours to this rec center for our first shower in over a month. Don’t take your homes for granted folks 💜

My family is middle-class and we've never had kids as it meant we would be living off of government assistance for 18 years. We been married for 20 years so far, so it's been a good look at our past and seen we really wouldn't have made it financially with children. @@trashawnbritt4681 You're welcome. I'm not against having children, me and my husband both grew up with stay-at-home Moms and there are benefits to one parent staying home holding down the fort - one person is running errands while the other is solely focused on the income. Then being a stay-at-home parent doesn't mean you're at home 18 years, you can go out and get a job when the kids become independent. It's hard having two parents working with an infant, both are losing sleep for the care of their child and stressing over work and Bills. It's easier with one parent focusing on the other. My job for over 10 years didn't have paid leave nor paid sick time. So I definitely couldn't have a baby. I could, but work wouldn't be paying me. We didn't even get paid vacations. It took a new job taking over that offered such benefits, but at that time we were racking up in hospital Bills. This doesn't mean being rich, but having enough money to pay for your child, Bills, mortgage and not worrying if you have enough money left in the bank for food. We couldn't even afford that.

People who shame the homeless really don't realise its not always due to drugs and carelessness. You can be let go from a job under circumstances that weren't your fault, have no money due to this and miss rent. Then boom you're homeless. They are very real people who need very real support.
Maybe people who live out of their cars, since that takes effort to maintain. Call me crazy, but I think most of the people in those tents along the freeway overpass are just drug addicts and people who have mental issues.
Find it weird that people are so harsh against homeless people with a drug addiction, but not "homeless" middle class adults who stay with their parents and also take drugs to cope with their misplaced and lonely existence. Some people just have luckier circumstances.

I will never get tired of hearing about the complexities of the human life. I can't understand those who reduce each other to black and white; no room for grey. Documentaries like these really do help keep me aware and understanding, as well as sad and careful.
The reason some people's perspectives are extreme black or extreme white with no contrast in between is denial and/or ignorance. It is 100% lack of knowledge or education of the situation though. Once you experience something 1st or 2nd hand, you sympathize or empathize for the situation. It's selfish if you ask me. I empathize for everyone everywhere. I can't help it. I feel for people.
They should never be room for lukewarm for sure. Black and white is good because we all get to know our positions and negotiate faithfully. Grey areas are the worst because there in comes severe deceit, killing, whoring, stealing, all kinds of vile sins. Grey areas are kin to motivational speeches perhaps now perceived as reality; yet the people with resources keep playing the strings.
@@Twitch_Moderator Grey areas are the worst, you are deceived if you live in them because you certainly will be demoralized to even do anything besides watch documentaries.
People act as if those folks woke up one morning n decided to be homeless. People automatically believe they're either homeless and in poverty due to laziness, addiction, lack of skill or education. Truth be told there are thousands of professionals and intellectuals out in the streets. The housing market crash, the pandemic n the recession were all designed to siphon billions out of the system then disrupt n brake the American n world economy. Mergers & acquisitions n shipping Jobs overseas has been going on for years and homeless n poverty are all a direct result from it. These President's n political parties r all a big front now - they no longer work for "We the people". We no longer have a constitution that truly protects our rights as sovereign citizen's. The 41st congress passed the District of Columbia Organic "Act of 1871" which ammendment the old constitution n separated powers n control to the newly created "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA CORPORATION" !!!!!
This is why us in Europe find it odd that you don't have free medical care. Just seems normal to us. And with the phone number 111, we literally have free medical help and advice just at the end of the phone
@David Huberty We just have an increase in social security. Probably less than most health insurance is. Most of the World can find a way to find the money. I am a supporter of the NHS and a member of the Conservative Party in the UK. Even those on the right hate the idea of privatisation health care. It would be like the privatisation of the entire education system. You need your health more than education. I do kind of get why it might not work in the US. I think it is more to do with expectation and culture. We don't have a suing culture here and we don't have any expectations. If things go wrong and are so slow, we understand and appreciate what we have. A lot of people do have health insurance but just like schools, it is up to you which you can afford and prefer. Though, when the Prime Minister caught Covid even he used the National Health Service.

My respect to Eric, who shares the pizza with people who're also struggling. Hope he already moved into a nice place, working in a nice office. If not, I'm sure there must be a perfect job position for Eric in those big tech companies. Please hire Eric.
It sounded like it was more about burnout and the like. Maybe a small tech company? I feel that burnout is one of the biggest issues with work these days.
Back twenty years ago, I worked for a national pizza chain and a local supermarket. The pizza joint had an ironclad policy about disposal of unsold or undeliverable food - the garbage. We were not technically even allowed to eat it ourselves. When corporate management found out that the night manager and I were taking this food to a local homeless shelters, we were both fired. At the supermarket I worked at, all produce that was "damaged", such as oranges that were bruised and vegetables that were a days old and not aesthetically pleasing were to be disposed of. The amount of food wasted here is staggering.
Definitely. Same thing that happened at a Walmart I was at. Myself & the Person that was with me asked them (because we saw a huge Amount of Food behind the Store stacked on the Pavement), what happens to the Food. We mentioned that People should be able to come get it because of Starvation/Homelessness. They told us "No, we HAVE to throw it away. We have Foods that aren't even Expired yet but we HAVE to" . Told us that they were waiting on the Dump Truck to come get it. I was shocked. Sickening.
@@briasworld8 from a humanitarian point of view, food wastage is really such a crisis. But our current reality is we are govern by businesses and corporations. Food wastage is a huge liability so you will see virtually all corporations that sell food being very strict about wastage and it’s proper disposal. KFC doesn’t want media coverage for some homeless raiding their bins and eating and getting sick from old chicken pieces. This is their viewpoint and they must protect their businesses.

To describe Maria's situation as a, "fall from Grace" is highly inappropriate and a mischaracterization - despite circumstances beyond her control (as much as we know from what's presented) she's still putting her best foot forward and maintaining a positive attitude which shows her Living in Grace.
The most shocking thing for me as a German is the medical support situation in America. I am not a big fan of Germany, but at least you can go to a doctor, whenever you need to without any costs. Medication is nearly free of costs. When you are ill, your employer fully pays you for 6 weeks. After that the health insurance pays 68 % of your last payment for about 2 years. If you depend on social security, they also pay for health insurance.
I recently lost my apartment that I had for 4 1/2 years... I was homeless and sleeping at my band mates floor and eventually his car ( I lost mine). My boss found out that I was doing all of this and he let me stay in a hotel room (I work at the Hilton Garden Inn at a fancy restaurant inside of it) luckily I have great bosses and co workers. I was hiding this from them but this summer heat was brutal. Tonight is my 3rd day in the Hotel room. I'm from Southern California and moved out on my own to Utah and have been here for 5 years. So it's a blessing to be in this hotel room as I type this. I still feel mentally numb, being homeless does affect your mental state. I lost a lot of stuff that I accumulated all of those years in my apartment even my fiancée who I was going to marry, my cats and furniture. But I was helped by my band mates and boss. My best advice is to be honest with people and let them know, my ego and pride had me hiding this from my job and family. Till the front desk manager found out. Tonight I have a bed to sleep on.
The problem is getting bigger every day. People need to understand that they are one catastrophic event away from finding themselves in this situation - job loss, medical emergency, change in relationships ... Be well, everyone.
The problem is the absolute lack of social support in the US. Student loans, healthcare etc. ruin peoples lifes forever. The social state is just outdated
@@IzayaTijisPrincess the US experienced major reform with "The New Deal". I am homeless with my 2 children. My 1 son is autistic. We stay in our van mostly but try to stay in motels when we can. Because of the kids I can't stay in the van every day. I wasn't always like this. I lived over 30 years without experiencing homelessness. Because of so many on welfare I have applied several times and even had some social workers help me but there's ALWAYS a mess up on the end of the welfare dept because they just have too many people on welfare and not enough workers to answer phones so u can easily fix something they've messed up. Instead u have to wait over 6 weeks to even find out they've messed up and then start over. And it takes all day so when u have to live day by day u don't have time to keep doing that. Then when we have emergencies I CANNOT let my kids freeze, or go hungry, or without ANYTHING they need I will sometimes have to hold a sign to ask for help. Horrible people see I have a vehicle and I'm clean and my kids are clean and say your not homeless ! Your too clean ! U got a van ! Like they don't realize that the majority of people they see asking for help are drug addicts that don't spend the $ on food or cleaning products. And I had help getting this vehicle because mine was in such bad shape it kept breaking down and because I had no credit it cost me almost $600 a month ! This newer one costed me $300 a month with my trade in van which someone helped me to pay off the last couple grand and put the vehicle in their name so the payments would be low enough. But people don't get out and ask questions. They just assume and judge and look down on others. That's not people of God ! Because People of faith don't treat others like that. But I have faith that the Lord is keeping us safe and He will help us and guide us to where we need to be. God Bless all of u going thru a hard time. The Lord is with u even when it doesn't feel like it.
Why though are we allowing more and more people to come into the country to get help if we can't help the ones we have here already ? I don't understand that logic. It's a mathematical issue ! This amount of $ and job but too many ppl for that free $ and jobs =a negative! A BIG NEGATIVE !!!

We are not the world richest country, we are home to the largest corporations- who largely avoid paying federal taxes, like amazon, apple, Google. The average American is in extreme amounts of credit debt, not to mention debt for their school, car, home. Because of this, most people can only pay the interest on their debts every month. Many will carry thier student loan debt until they die.
My husband, My son and I all lived out of a small car for 2 months a year ago. It was hard but a very humbling experience. We were both working full time and my son was in day care at the time. We ended up taking a gamble and moving 2 provinces over back to my home town. We somehow managed to secure really good jobs and now have our own apartment and life and are saving for a house.
Hang on until the housing mkt. falls. A $80,000 home could be a third of that in 2 yr.s. Don't try to pay it off early. Easier on the hudget making small pmt.s. When u can afford it make an extra pmt. every year . Make the ck.out to 'principle'. If not it pays interest . Remember to buy at a price point u can afford. Do not look at dream houses.
The fact that 2 years after this video was originally posted, the state of things in the US have only gotten worse for millions more is horrific. My friend... Everyone feels that way but lacks the means or resources to do so... but on the other hand the ones with MORE THAN ENOUGH means and resources like MILLIONAIRES and BILLIONAIRES pass each other their money to HELP the those in need and NOTHING HAPPENS, because GREED gets in their way. For instance, Jeff Bezos donated Dolly Parton's CHARITY $121 MILLION dollar to help the HOMELESS just recently... Ummm, did that help to completely eradicate HOMELESSNESS in all of the state of Tennessee? Nope... What happened all those money? lol... Here is my question. *Why don't Americans have WAR ON HOMELESSNESS just like they have WAR on DRUGS?* LOL...😅😅😅😅
Homeless people trying to cope up with this horrible inhuman conditions deserve respect. I wish them to be healthy and lucky. Love and compassion from Bulgaria🍀

I am a Landlord in UK and I always pay around $20( £15) RENT ON TIME insurance a month for each property so even if the tenant does not pay, my agency's insurance covers it up. I don't quite understand why this cannot happen in the US.
You need a guarantor or an insurance agency paid by the tenant to rent an apartment or a house in Japan, & your guarantor's financial situation (statement of income, tax returns) is verified. Must be extremely stressful to never be sure if one's going to be able to pay next month's rent, or if or when it's going to be raised.
You say that you pay that. You do not. It's added to the cost of the rent making it worse for your tenements who pay their rent. I live in rented property and regularly go without food to pay rent
@@PINKFL0YD-s2h that is not correct. The agency I use deducts this from the rent I receive every month. I always try to be $50-100 cheaper than any landlord in my area.
Rented for 7 years and that's how you treat a person. Heartless. I cannot believe they're doing this in the United States. I live in Tennessee and this is not how eviction work. You have plenty of time to move out.
So thankful we live in Tennessee as well. And, my landlady is very very kind. She understands if we are late and never charges a late fee. Truly a blessing 🙏.
I was homeless at 16yrs old for 18mnths, it’s really not fun. I walked around at night till I had no energy to carry on, to scared to sleep. Had baths at a friends every so often but didn’t have no way to wash my clothes so just had to wear them again, got heavily into drugs/drink and was SA more than once! Having a car to sleep in isn’t great but better than the streets. I’m in the UK so luckily get free healthcare
I gave my home of 20 years to my daughter, 2 grandsons and x wife and moved in to my 98 van 2 years ago. I thought I would be able to get a home cheaper and faster than my daughter. I'm a veteran, 69 years old and living in a world where I never thought finding a place to live would be so hard. The people that own these apartments, homes are really in a world of their own. Pure greed is all I see and it's getting worse. The last two places I tried to get the house needed major repairs and both owners expected me to do ALL THE REPAIRS and and go get the material! The sad part is how many are out there who are even more in need than me. God bless all of you and I hope you the best
You gave your house to your daughter, why you did not stay in your house? Tell her things did not work out and you need to move in. Don’t take no for an answer. You’re her dad.
If she has kids she should qualify for section 8 or HUD if she has built credit and nothing against her on it. I tried applying for HUD several times myself, but I was denied over a judgement on medical bills. My check was garnished just because I stopped paying a medical bill the debt collector was throwing unfair collateral on. Somehow they made me feel like I was in the wrong and I was scared to speak up to the judge. I'm terrified to take on any debt now. Knowing they get away with this. But yeah, she can apply for assistance, and so can you if that's what's best for your family.
That woman from the start of the video said "Oh no I will shoot myself" and then she put her finger to her head and while doing that she smiled. you can clearly see that behind that smile there is a crying injured soul, that has been thrown away without any warning or an option to even prepare for this new harsh situation. what a heartless partner she has to have, he didn't deserve her. she is a very strong woman and I hope she got better.
If she cheated then she is getting exactly what she deserves. Considering how she just got thrown out that quickly then that is probably what happened. Her husband probably found out that she was betraying him and stabbing him in the back so he threw her out. I highly doubt any person just throws someone out for nothing. She probably had it coming.. Can't say for sure though.
Yes I can feel agony, when we’re in a hopeless situation! In early sixties I lived on the street to save money, dad was a 2WW Commando, he died in the Pacific War..I was young strong and enjoy every minute of it. Maria’s situation is hopeless, looking at her gives me emptiness..from Fiji 🇫🇯 island.
This is very eye-opening for me, cause I've always have a roof over my head and never had to worry about ever being on the road. I cannot even imagine how suffocating it must be, it's honestly depressing thinking about these people's living condition.
You should watch some videos about global poverty. I know this lady's situation is bad but there is somewhere between 2 - 4 billion people on this planet that are in much much worse living conditions.
Some states/cities have laws against just kicking someone out. (where I live) You have to miss 1 full month of rent. Then the landlord to request eviction which takes another 30 days. An if the tenents pay that original missing month. It actually resets. I know this because of my co worker being a landlord. Hes been having issues the last year or so with tenents. Which is hard to believe as there is Tons of good paying jobs (18 plus an hour) in the area where he rents. kinda sad.
We had to let drug addicted, abusive tenants live rent free for a year because we had to wait so long for a court date. Meanwhile, we are not wealthy ourselves and were afraid the tenants would assault us. The laws are very pro tenant, this video is not accurate.
Being homeless off and on for a long time, I empathize. Not every person is a bum or a drug user or have mental health issues. I lived in a dysfunctional home for the first part of my life and when my folks both died the family pretty much scattered apart so I became without any kind of support. I could work here and there but only enough to get by and wound up on the streets for a long time. With the right help, I got into an apartment and get disability now thank God. To those out there who are having it hard, things will turn out. Hang in there and have faith.
When I saw this it was hard for me to hold back tears 😭. Because seeing people suffer and be in this situation is something nobody deserves. I’m currently in welding school to make a better life and I promised myself that when I get to where I wanna be, I want to start an organization that helps families in need of housing, medical care, mental health programs and a way to get a job that meets the expectations of what they need and afford housing. My wish and goal is to end poverty, homelessness forever and ever.
There are a ton of people who choose this life style. It's called van life. I plan to one day live in a van. Crazy I know, but I don't want to spend ridiculous amounts of money for a truck and trailer or motorhome. There are cheap ways to do a van build. You can have running water, electricity, and cook in your van.
We had a lady in my hometown walk into our post office and decided to hold the workers hostage. No one was hurt and she never fired the gun she had. She let everyone go when the police arrived and was immediately arrested. When asked why she did it, she said she knew it was a government building and she would be sent to a federal prison. She'd be better taken care of in there than by herself as a law abiding citizen. Now she gets 3 square meals a day, full medical coverage, cable TV and she gets learning courses for free. Her cellmates also get along with her, so everything pretty much worked out in her favor. Her friends that visit her say she'll do it again if she gets released because she doesn't want to have to be poor again.
@@ly5504 this particular story might not be 100 percent true, but there are many cases of homeless people, getting themselves arrested, just to spend even a small amount of time, sheltered, fed, clean and safe.

This video is an eye-opener. It's shocking how in a country known for its affluence, millions still live in poverty, struggling for basic needs. The statistics on child homelessness and families' instability are heart-wrenching. This paints a harsh reality of inequalities in the US, which demands immediate attention and action.
Those small wooden houses are nice, but you need to get the homeless out of the toxic city environment. Just build a tent town with some of those houses outside the big city. The key is creating a great "homeless" community there, grow your own food and support each other. Volunteers from this tent town can help keep everything running and get food donations from big food stores. Some can cook daily meals for all residents, others could care about expanding the town and so on. To get the money needed for expansion you could charge 10% of the monthly income of every resident or charge a one time only payment of like $100 when they dont have an income. Once you become a resident you get everything for free anyway, not much need for money there. But may be the government does not want such towns, you may need legal experts to make everthing bullet proof.
Inequality is a fact of life. It’s part of our existence on the earth. The minute we all start being born identically to each other, thinking and behaving identically, then we will all be equally in behavior, kind of like cows and no one will excel at anything. Jesus said, (the poor will always be among you).
imma give you a slap of reality. california has the largest homeless population. a man i believe in san diego started building tiny homes out of his own money for the homeless. guess what happened, the GOVERNMENT went and destroyed it all. there isn't a equality problem, theres a government problem which exists in every country.
In my youth, and due to several addictions, I was thisclose of becoming homeless. My heart goes to all hard working people in that situation. Tough life, and I hope they find a solution to their problem. Ironically, work became my therapy, and for many years, I found working everyday kept me safe from me.
Unemployment is down in the USA because everyone has to work from 1-3 jobs just to make rent and pay for food, i love how people constantly overlook that simple fact. Yet people being homeless is at an all time high and unemployment at an all time low, this alone should tell you something isn't right.
Also that unemployment numbers have been “fraudulent” since the beginning… they only count the unemployed as “working age, able body & currently looking for work” … that last part is big Bc I believe it is “submitted an application within the last 90 days” … so it doesn’t include the people who gave up, the people who never applied and doesn’t include most women.
“You hardly have to be an economist to understand just how wrong Ocasio-Cortez’s statement truly is. First, as Noah Smith of Bloomberg pointed out, the number of Americans working two jobs is around 5 percent of the workforce, another historic low. But, much more importantly, the candidate’s claim suggests she has no idea what unemployment actually means. “The unemployment rate,” as Robby Soave helpfully explained in Reason, “is calculated by taking the number of unemployed people and dividing it by the number of people in the labor force. The raw number of jobs being worked by Americans has no bearing on these numbers.”
That's not how that works. Unemployment numbers don't go down because people work multiple jobs. unemployment doesn't count the number of jobs you work, it counts the number of people NOT WORKING AT ALL and who are looking for work.
Re unemployment: I'm pretty highly educated, in the US, stuck where I am bc my kids are at school here, my job shut down bc of government cutbacks, I ran out of unemployment 4 months ago, I have Long COVID so can't work retail (I'm a lawyer and desperate enough to consider retail) and I have faithfully been looking for a job for 2 years. I am NOT considered 'unemployed' by government standards, nor would I be considered underemployed were I able to take a job at Subway. I am not the only one in my friend group who has run out of benefits and is in this situation. What part of that fits with unemployment being at an all time low? Edited bc typing on a phone in a cold room = typos. 🙂

@@JacqueScherrerTrump says he wants to end MedicAid. What’s going to happen then to these poor people?
Dental cover not included is an atrocity, but its the damn "dental industry " who is a gold mine that controls the lack of availability of dental cover for medicaid and medicare in Australia.
Dentists in those part of the world earn insane amounts and protect their business.

The fact that Eric was very well employed but developed a health problem and then on temporary unemployment had to cover the cost of ridiculously expensive medical treatments by himself; eventually burned through all his savings and was left homeless is an absolute testament to how broken the American healthcare system is.

None of the moms in the neighborhood had jobs, though a few might have done a LITTLE of something like baking pies or cakes to sell or maybe something like making alterations to clothes, just to make a bit extra, but generally speaking, there was ONE household income most of the time only 40 hours per week. My family is middle-class and we've never had kids as it meant we would be living off of government assistance for 18 years. We been married for 20 years so far, so it's been a good look at our past and seen we really wouldn't have made it financially with children.

As a non-American the fact that it is legal to start evicting someone after 5 days in arrears and evictees are held at gunpoint is ~wild~

@Last Chance not really, some think all homeless are like that or lazy.
Find it weird that people are so harsh against homeless people with a drug addiction, but not "homeless" middle class adults who stay with their parents and also take drugs to cope with their misplaced and lonely existence. Some people just have luckier circumstances.
She literally gave up everything for this, it was her decision, literally. She is also an idiot for living in Cali. This documentary is dog poop. MAGA? How about building back better? She probably lost this car already due to 6 dollar a gallon gas. Yep, this is Trumps fault /s.
A lot of people start using because it's so traumatizing, scary, violent, etc to live on the street. Especially if they don't have a car or anything
Number 1 problem in every country is not having a job. If you have a job, you can have food on the table and pay bills to the apartment. But always aim to build a house. You should not rent for the resr of your life because renting fee is increasing every year
i am financially poor. Experienced homelessness in South Florida and it was a wake up call that changed me. I had achieved a bachelors degree. Have no criminal past, drug abuse, nor mental disabilities to speak of(my friends may disagree lol). Life happens and I had to adjust. I had a job and a car so I was fortunate and grateful for that. I got a PO Box and put my belongings in storage. I'm not even sure why I am sharing this. But i hope if you find yourself in a similar situation understand that there is a way out. It took me over 4 months but I was able to climb out slowly. Key things... I maintained a very positive outlook. I still worked out at the park. Went swimming. listened to music. read books. and went out for walks. I maintained my personal hygiene as best possible and on my down days I didn't make any poor choices that could make things worse. Stay up.. and fight the good fight. Lived in my car for 2 years while going to college and working 2 jobs. I had been kicked out of my home because I broke my ankle and wasn’t able to work, couldn’t pay the rent. I felt okay though, living in my car. Was thankful for the roof and the transportation. I had a gym membership at Planet Fitness, I worked out but mostly needed it for the 24/7 shower and other amenities. Thankful for that too. Ended up getting a restaurant job where I saved money on food because they kept me fed. Made enough money to finally get my own place but I ended up dropping out of college to work at the restaurant full time because it was good money and helped me find a home. I regret not finishing college, but, I’m thankful for the journey. I wouldn’t be where I am if it had been different. I’m in a happy place finally and I feel like I earned it.

The reason some people's perspectives are extreme black or extreme white with no contrast in between is denial and/or ignorance. It is 100% lack of knowledge or education of the situation though.

And yet people are starving.
Health insurance and education in the USA are for profit industry.

There’s something about seeing a family with young kids homeless that triggers both feelings of sadness and anger at the same time.
Anger is conspicuous by its absence. However miserable their situation, no one seems to be angry. Even the woman being evicted may be crying but she is not angry at the guys evicting her.

Rented for 7 years and that's how you treat a person. Heartless. I cannot believe they're doing this in the United States. I live in Tennessee and this is not how eviction work. You have plenty of time to move out.
So heartless. And he seemed unbothered- clearly she was a good enough tenant for 7 years so why not give her some grace
3 days after judgement
So thankful we live in Tennessee as well. And, my landlady is very very kind. She understands if we are late and never charges a late fee. Truly a blessing 🙏.
They could have at least walked in with her so she could get some things. blankets clothes and food. Nope just changed the locks when she was gone:(

@@FreddieK-h1u Thanks for sharing and hope you back on your feet. And no, it cannot be fun. 😕
That woman from the start of the video said "Oh no I will shoot myself" and then she put her finger to her head and while doing that she smiled. you can clearly see that behind that smile there is a crying injured soul, that has been thrown away without any warning or an option to even prepare for this new harsh situation. what a heartless partner she has to have, he didn't deserve her. she is a very strong woman and I hope she got better.
yes i caught that too ugh she's a strong soul
If she cheated then she is getting exactly what she deserves. Considering how she just got thrown out that quickly then that is probably what happened. Her husband probably found out that she was betraying him and stabbing him in the back so he threw her out. I highly doubt any person just throws someone out for nothing. She probably had it coming.. Can't say for sure though.
You how many men have done that because of child support spousal support plus alimony yet there is no mercy for them

Right on the verge of disaster it's extremely hard to get a break.
That bothered me too. When she said she was just kidding; she wasn't.
She said she was kidding but deep down inside I know she was not. That hurt.

This is very eye-opening for me, cause I've always have a roof over my head and never had to worry about ever being on the road. I cannot even imagine how suffocating it must be, it's honestly depressing thinking about these people's living condition.
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU %100
Exactly! I was one who never knew what it was like to be or went without food, shelter etc. However it makes you humble and GRATEFUL!
You should watch some videos about global poverty. I know this lady's situation is bad but there is somewhere between 2 - 4 billion people on this planet that are in much much worse living conditions.
Eh there's poverty everywhere. It doesnt matter. What's the point caring? Your emotions aint gonna do no good. Just get back to your life.
Yes!! Can you imagine spending most of your time boxed up in your car?? Especially sleeping behind the wheel. I’d go off the deep end.
Evicting someone for just 5 days delay in payment is outright barbaric! They are destroying people's lives 🙄😒
Sad and pathetic, for 5 days !! Where is the mercy ???
@@teresaboykin4861 you had a moratorium, no excuses
That's why sometimes I believe Africans aren't bad,in Nigeria you have the grace of three to six months before you could be evicted
Allow me to raise a glass over the Internet for you good sir 🍻 cheer!
And to many years of stability and attainable wealth to you!

So after all there are people living in serious conditions in USA
Damn But I still wanna move to LA to see Brad itt and hug him and kiss him
All the best bro
There are a ton of people who choose this life style. It's called van life. I plan to one day live in a van. Crazy I know, but I don't want to spend ridiculous amounts of money for a truck and trailer or motorhome. There are cheap ways to do a van build. You can have running water, electricity, and cook in your van.
@@hermeslein6614 i don’t think you’ll get that close.
Show me the proof of this story. Show me the news article of her arrest
@@ly5504 this particular story might not be 100 percent true, but there are many cases of homeless people, getting themselves arrested, just to spend even a small amount of time, sheltered, fed, clean and safe.

The scary thing is that you can also lose your job any time, there is no unemployment insurance or anything! You can break your leg, get fired from work because your employer needs you to be healthy… Next thing is you are bankrupt because of medical bills and you get evicted from your house.
What a broken system

Germany took care of that problem! But that was a hundred years ago!@@Eltigrecubano

Only takes the loss of a job or income, and your whole life can collapse. I absolutely feel for anyone struggling with this in their life.

In my youth, and due to several addictions, I was thisclose of becoming homeless. My heart goes to all hard working people in that situation. Tough life, and I hope they find a solution to their problem. Ironically, work became my therapy, and for many years, I found working everyday kept me safe from me.
@@talivato thank you for sharing your story and good vibes for you.
Unemployment is down in the USA because everyone has to work from 1-3 jobs just to make rent and pay for food, i love how people constantly overlook that simple fact. Yet people being homeless is at an all time high and unemployment at an all time low, this alone should tell you something isn't right.
Yep! When AOC said this, people laughed it off. It's true through.
