The heavy bag allows the boxer to work on both power and speed. The heavy bag is also useful in training for stamina and lung strength. Learn how to hit a heavy bag in this boxing video.
Love your workout mate. Very good for people like me that dont box but love the idea of heavy bag workout to stay in shape and loose weight. Thank you and ill be working o this style on me next training👌
Jose is a tough guy, hits hard and is a great boxer with much experience. I workout at the gym he boxes at. Great guy to be around. He will spar with anybody that walks into that gym anytime. He has more heart than most people you'll ever see in your life.
Cool! I started when I was 14 too. Make sure you have handwraps and make sure you are doing the CORRECT technique. I was hitting the bag with handwraps and what I thought was good technique, but I snapped my left wrist and pinky bone up real bad over time! Practice straight punches as much as you can before you get into hooks and uppercuts. The hooks are what snapped my wrist up real good, and it didn't feel pleasant! :D
That's really nice...such a difference between a professional, someone good enough to get paid, and everyone else who posts somethinng (including myself).
Some good pointers on this video and good Helpful comments. I've done tae kwon do for 13 years and have alot of power kicking but hit like a 5 year old girl with my arms. Started doing boxing for fitness and love it. Trying to increase my hitting power and stamina. Awesome vid!!
exellent combos! a word of advise for those who r learning this guy is a profesional he can get away with bending down like that. but dont try it in a real fight. u will get hit with a lot of uppercuts! if the opponent cant see ur eyes he can land uppercuts...thats basic boxing 101. :D
yeah he was throwing it on purpose but missed the first time.. he was simply "skimming" the bag so he was set up for the hook, juss a easier way to get used to twisting your hips into the hook.. good to practice
This video demonstrates exactly how hard it is to be a good professional boxer. Jose has good hand speed, solid fundamentals, and his punches have some pop. But Jose has no claim to be an up-and-coming fighter. (According to boxrec.com, his pro record is 6-5-2.) In boxing parlance, he's at best a tomato can, at worst a bum...which doesn't mean he isn't tough. (Trust me, he is tough as nails.) It simply means that as good as he is, he can barely hang with the worst of the best.
What you should do is throw light blows at first to get warmed up and get blood flowing to the muscles. Progressively make your blows stronger until finally your hitting it at full force without damage to your own body.
@intoccabile yeah but you wont get much power in your punches with that. their's other things for that like jumping rope, the heavy bag is not a footwork tool, it's a power, stamina, endurance etc. it's to put solidness in the punches so it shouldn't swing around violently.
What the hell is wrong with some of you haters? This is a training video, I don't care if the guy is from Mars, he has skill on the bag and I've learned some from him. Some of you guys need to grow up!
@sk8forlife90 The heavybag isn't always for hitting with power. Being able to work your technique is the most important. There are so many drills on the heavybag, you're missing the main ones. Light bags sway allowing you to work on 'duck unders'. Thats where you chase the bag while punching and if it's a short/light bag, you 'duck under' it when it sways back, simulating slipping hooks. The bags fine, you work conditioning more whilst moving anyway. It perfects the technique.
I have a 60 pound heavy bag, but it's made of that book bag material. Whatever you call that stuff ... hahaa I really like how you can hear the punches that sound like slaps, on this leather punching bag. I might have to invest in one.
@sz42781 Wrapping your hands supports your wrist and keeps it straight. If you hit the heavy bag without wrapping up first you're likely to get a wrist injury unless you are an experienced fighter.
@bob23yer use straps, and dont focus on power for the moment, work out on forearms and wrist. take it easy than slowly start going hard on the bag. but the main thing is were straps
How heavy is a heavy bag? Im trying to get a bag into my workout, i dont fight or box in any way, but id like to use one, so if anyone has suggestions on equipment, videos (to learn techniques), or anything on the subject, it'd be a huge help, thanks! :)
@jethrotay well... idk how it is in the states, but in europe you need a weapons license to be allowed to carry them with you... but for some weapons you just don't get a license because they are too dangerous and therefore illegal ;) it was meant to be a joke about how dangerous my right hook is (a strong punch with a lot of momentum from my right fist) ;)
wish we had our heavy bags hanging like that. our heavy bags a 6 ft ones and we still work our hand work on them all the time but they are mostly for kicking for the thai boxers.
@AmericanGMS no man it's resistance training, hitting a surface stronger than your muscles so building against the resistance. things like jogging which include endurance training burn fat and muscle, not resistance training
such a great tutorial! one would assume hitting a punching bag to be a simple treat! i'd never have thought it to require such finesse, such skill and stamina! and now seriously. what, exactly, is the point of this video?
@Colombianit0 WELL YOU CAN BUT YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR KNUCKLES THE FIRST ADVICE YOU GET WHILE EATING THE HEAVY BAG IS ALWAYS CLENCH YOUR FISTS when you throw a punch try not to hit the bag when it swings and always put on gloves
@jethrotay it depends on how you feel better and what stance you have at the moment. it's just a "better feeling thing". i am right handed... but for light punches i love to use my left hand, while my right hook kinda is illegal in europe :P
This guy's a pro, you can easily see his advanced technique. Excellent.
the movements of this boxer are so fluent. I will save this video to try to mimic those motions during my heavy bag sessions.
I don’t recommend that. You also mimic their flaws. Maybe pick a punch or two from a fighter you like but not their style.
@@repeataftermeme75 i still dont hit it as well ahahah
Love your workout mate. Very good for people like me that dont box but love the idea of heavy bag workout to stay in shape and loose weight. Thank you and ill be working o this style on me next training👌

Nice job on the bag! Good power form, nice combos...chin tucked in.

1. Left Jab 2. right hook 3. Left hook body 4. Left hook head 5. Right cross 6. Left hook to head.
Beautiful movement technique and body mechanics combinated with power. That was crafty boxing. I appreciate this video
That's really nice...such a difference between a professional, someone good enough to get paid, and everyone else who posts somethinng (including myself).
you can constantly hit the bag, non stop, without stopping great video!
I'm ready for the bully. lol
don't give your milk money to the bully anymore lol.
Lol dirk the jerk
holy shit Jose you make it look so easy
I like how the tempo is transitioned around the 1 minute mark from power techniques to flurrying. Very nice.
"...While you hit the heavy bag"
This guy has real skill, fantastic to watch.
That's some good bag work. I wish I could look half as good as that.
them hooks tho.....
This fella is very good. Excellent movement and rhythm of punches. Impressive.
Some good pointers on this video and good Helpful comments. I've done tae kwon do for 13 years and have alot of power kicking but hit like a 5 year old girl with my arms. Started doing boxing for fitness and love it. Trying to increase my hitting power and stamina. Awesome vid!!
Great example how to hit the heavy bag!. First, get the proper technique "down pat" and then speed and power will come afterwards.
This guy is very good! He move's like a pro.
Ignore the haters fellas. I can't stand people who complain about free information from someone else's experience. Thanks.
I was looking for this video for a while. I wanted to see that guy, "Jose" hit the crap out of the bag with such grace again.
That's what a good punch sounds like:). Nice form and speed! Oh, and nice shoes :)
just started boxing lessons...and i love it...having dreams about hitting the bag lol
im going to watch this right before i leave to go to the gym.
Just got heavy bag for Christmas.Hell yea
Wow! I'm impressed with his technique, it's textbook!

Very good video. Well explained and easy to understand.
yeah he was throwing it on purpose but missed the first time.. he was simply "skimming" the bag so he was set up for the hook, juss a easier way to get used to twisting your hips into the hook.. good to practice
This is my favorite thing to do in the gym. It always amazes guys when a small blonde girl can beat the hell out of a heavy bag.
Nice combinations. Very Quick.
This guy has great form!

if i ever get to professional boxing my name would be balls of steel..
Great boxer! Hope he does well for his professional career.

The guy's technique is beautiful.
It's obvious this kid has developed great technique.

@bob23yer Tape for your fist, helps keep it straight and wear gloves. This should stop your wrist from hurting.
@AmericanGMS no man it's resistance training, hitting a surface stronger than your muscles so building against the resistance. things like jogging which include endurance training burn fat and muscle, not resistance training

@jethrotay it depends on how you feel better and what stance you have at the moment. it's just a "better feeling thing". i am right handed... but for light punches i love to use my left hand, while my right hook kinda is illegal in europe :P
Great video :) fast hands
It's true it increases power I'm undefeated in armature boxing because of these kind of punching bags
Wow he makes it look so easy. Since using this equipment I've lost 8kg it really gets rid of the fat
great double lead hook.......
This guy's legit as fuck.
Great vid
@choirguy210 You should not train one-dimensional on the heavybag, box inside, outside, go to the body, work the hook, work on snapping the jab.
the heavy bag is a good tool
Great bag work. Nice tight bag, good gloves. Really makes it all look sweet. I can't seem to get my snap into my jab. Very Frustrating.
