  • This Is one of my favorite times of the year! The Jag 980 has come to which is an absolute beast its been boosted to 1100 HP so it takes a massive crop to slow it down.
    Enjoy

    Cool operator on the JCB & you made his job easier by saying "just do what you like" = a good stack at the end of the day

    Awesome stacking! Put some roundup around the outside of the big stack, maybe makes it easier to keep the rats out. Would be a shame if they got into that…. Great video.

    Great video👍I would say that you would be better off cutting the maze higher at about knee hight. My teacher always said that it is like feeding sawdust to the cows because of the quality. Looking forward to the next one 👍cheers from Ireland

    City folk here, loving the videos for me and my son!
    Curious as to what the main benefits there are for growing maize? Is it mostly for feeding the cattle? Does it help the soil?

    • @TheOnceADayFarmer
      @TheOnceADayFarmer  Рік тому

      Hey thats awesome to hear!
      Maize certainly doesn't help the soil, its very nutrient hungry so requires a lot put back in but its a bulk crop that we can grow to feed out when we are in feed deficit stage during our season.
      The maize can yield 20 tons of Dry Matter +, plus another 6-8t during the winter of annual ryegrass so a total of around 25tDM where as pasture only grows around 13tDM
      I hope that makes sense

    Those Joskin walking floor wagons were neat, but I think the dump wagons still had them beat on unload time 😁! Cool aerial footage, what kind of drone do you use to capture everything?

    • @TheOnceADayFarmer
      @TheOnceADayFarmer  Рік тому +2

      yeah I'd agree with you on that one, all though they're probably safer on some of pit sites around here can be pretty rough so no chance of tipping over.
      It's just one of the DJI mavic pro 2 I think

    Why don't you put a hard track down beside the feed out shed as tractors and trailers can't fit under save grass seed ever year just an idea love the videos keep them coming xx

    • @TheOnceADayFarmer
      @TheOnceADayFarmer  Рік тому

      Id really only use it a couple times of the year, so might as well grow grass there instead, I know what you mean tho

  • @johnjordan4647
    @johnjordan4647 Рік тому

    Hey Andrew if Finch’s equipment gets any bigger you will have to enlarge your races and gateways. Just a couple of questions. The maize cutter operator does he control the discharge chute that deposits the maize into the trailers. If so gee he must have to have eyes in the back of his head.😂 Also some of your maize that was dying off looks like when they harvest up here on the Atherton Tablelands. They grow quite a bit up here but they let it die off completely before harvest just the actual kernels. Gets very dusty during harvest. Thanks for the video Mate

    • @benjaminbauer4883
      @benjaminbauer4883 Рік тому +1

      The chopper drive controls the spout. Good trailer drivers that stay in the right spot makes the job easier.

    • @TheOnceADayFarmer
      @TheOnceADayFarmer  Рік тому

      We try and make it easier for them by widening gateways etc. When pop put in 10ft gateways I bet he never imagined the machinery would be this big oneday!

  • @soloheadlad
    @soloheadlad Рік тому

    We Irish always do a job right. The man on d harvester is fair good operating the shoot not a big of maize spilt over the trailers when filling from behind. It's not an easy job filling from behind while making a turn in d field or going round trees.
