    I've had my M3 LR MIC car for six weeks now and I cannot fault your assessment. While I haven't had much experience with the 2020 model, other than a couple of test drives and a few showroom visits, I was immediately impressed with the solid built and attention to detail in the new version. My only slight complaint is the tinny feel of the trim (white in my case because of white seats) across the dash. It provides all the tactile pleasure of fondling a fridge door.
    But that's a small point. The overall impression is of quality, more iPhone tech-style quality than the more luxurious legacy interior still in favour with most manufacturers. I came to the Tesla from Porsche via Jaguar (I-Pace) and it's a tribute to Tesla that I do not feel in any way short-changed.

      Hi Michael, sorry I was slow to reply, work has been a bit hectic (my real job, not UA-cam). Glad you are enjoying it, I like your comparison to the iPhone and I know what you mean. I which I was in a position to upgrade, but really doesn't make sense

    Really objective and gracious of you to compliment the new version so much versus your own- even points not highlighted elsewhere, e.g. overall quality, seats. Great content.

    4-5 more weeks for my white on white LR arrives! I got the Chinese version. They sell that for 2.000 euros cheaper just because it has 30km less range. A obvious choice for me!

    Great overview. Only things I'd add are comparing charging speeds since the LG chem batteries the MIC cars using do not currently charge as quick as the Panasonic ones! However this is likely short term as Tesla have a history of limiting charging speeds initially when a new battery is being tested and then fixing the issue with a software update

    Another excellent video. It's good to see that a car company does listen to customer feedback. Even with the small number of tweaks made, there is greater perceived quality which should stop some of the Tesla naysayers. Its worth pointing out that the piano black was removed around the window buttons - these too now have a matte grey finish.

    I have this very spec, I don't care that the frunk lid is manual! Apparently today's Fremont cars are as good in terms of panel gaps now too. I also love my door trims ☺️ I felt the double glazing was possibly for heat retention and also for extra cabin stability/strength.

      Haha, never say never. I remember seeing the Model 3 launch in 2016 and didn't really give it much thought as thought I would never get one. Interesting about the heat pump 20-30w/mile. Not a great difference but it takes a range of 169 miles up to 190 miles. Maybe warming up the cabin would be a big saving in energy and that would help on short trips??

    • @TeslaTorque
      @TeslaTorque  3 роки тому

      Yeah, I imagine it will really come into its own on the much colder trips. I think the SR+ is more efficient in terms of MPG (according to official economy websites), probably because its lighter, so that would have also played bit of a part in making the difference smaller. Ideally I should do a journey with and without the heater on, but as it's not my car, I'm limited :)

    • @danbron
      @danbron 3 роки тому

      Baring mind the cost of a 21 model will be more than your 20 model, then a loss value from your 20 model likely to be around 10-20%, your then paying a lot for really not that much change.

    • @TeslaTorque
      @TeslaTorque  3 роки тому

      I did consider it, my error if I'm honest is buying the full self driving, as not sure what Tesla are currently offering if you trade in for that. They did email all owners and say they would accept mine for trade in of £37,000 before Christmas (So before grant and before they recognised FSD to some extent). I don't think I can justify it - especially if I end up getting a Model Y to bring something new to the channel 🤣

      Given the price difference between that and the LR it's definitely worth considering. When the LR was £46990 I felt it was much better value for money over the SR+, I bought the LR just before the grant got scrapped but Tesla since reduced the SR+ again last week

    • @TeslaTorque
      @TeslaTorque  3 роки тому

      I'd agree with Dan, its definitely worth a consideration, I've never had any issues with my SR+ range, but not done many massive journeys - after Lockdown that will change. Although I'm kidding myself really that I should pay £10,000 more just for the off chance I want to drive a 360 round trip in a day without needing to stop somewhere - but I'm the kinda guy that buys the iPhone 12 Pro and probs don't use all its functions.
      I generally stop every 120 miles or so for a break, and the breaks enough time to top up charge.

    Think the circular rear door speakers have something to do with a potential noise cancellation feature in future?

    • @TeslaTorque
      @TeslaTorque  3 роки тому +1

      I did read about that, if they can do the noise cancelling as well as earphones that would be absolutely amazing, and I imagine possibly not too complex, as road noise is a constant waveform, or at least it doesn’t change super frequently. If you have something like apple AirPods,Pro, put them in whilst driving and it completely removes the noise, so it can be done.

    You should not be testing the heat pump on LR against none heat pump SR+. SR+ is more efficient than a LR. Your test of the heat pump is no good. My 2019 SR+ over 33k miles averages about 256 Watts/mile (mostly highway miles) and my friends LR averages about 310 Watts and he has driven about 46k miles. So technically, none heat pump SR+ is about 50 Watts per mile more efficient than a none heat pump LR and after your test The LR with heat pump was 30 Watts more efficient than a none heat pump SR+. My guess is that if you had tested that LR with a heat pump against another LR without heat pump the efficiency would be more than 80 Watts per mile.

    Actual efficiency gains probably higher as the SR+ has an intrinsically lower Wh/m figure so should give the lower Wh/m figure all other things being equal. To get a lower displayed Wh/m figure in the AWD LR means you were saving the heat-pump gain and the intrinsic gain from the SR+. Impressive. I’ll have to check, but I don’t think there is. I seem to remember Elon Musk mentioning in an interview they get data on the software how often it was used and it never was. So they removed it as a feature

    Great video, how about max charging rate on the MIC standard range+ and max range?
    Thanks

    • @TeslaTorque
      @TeslaTorque  3 роки тому

      On the Long Range and Performance its 250kW on a Tesla Supercharger, but I believe on ionity its 150kw, due to Tesla using the 400v system but ionity chargers not being able to cool the cables, so its limited. The SR+ on a Supercharger is 170kW, and I guess 150kW on ionity, but not sure about that.

    though that was too much water if it is raining that heavy don't open the boot as the big open space would fill from the rain itself.
    is the heat pump an extra cost like it is on some other ev's as with them it was not worth having you could not make back cost of the heat pump by driving.

      David, I'm totally with you on the water front. It always made me laugh when the first reviews came out and they demoed it by tipping loads of water on it. Of course it was going to go over. I tipped loads on in the hope to prove even with an unrealistic amount it had improved, which it had
