Shereen’s reference to the “dance of the dragons” is interestingly timed, because in two weeks HBO will drop House of the Dragon, which is the story of the glory and fall of the dragons.

The death of Princess Shireen is one of two deaths in this series that just absolutely broke my heart. She's an innocent child who we have grown to love and care about. Stannis knew Ser Davos would never let him hurt Shireen and sent him away. Ser Davos rescued Gendry, who he barely knew, to prevent him from being sacrificed. He probably would have done anything possible to protect Shireen, who he loves like a daughter. She was innocent and had so much promise, so much still to give to the world. And her father let Melisandre sacrifice her by burning her alive at the stake. Anyone who kills children to increase their own power should never be allowed to rule. Anyone who kills their own child to advance their power should never be in that kind of position of power again.

Shireen’s death was very very upsetting! What she said about the Dance of the Dragons; it’s the story of the upcoming prequel House of the Dragon.
IF you wish to avoid spoilers, you may not want to watch the Season 5 segment of History and Lore that talks about the Targaryen civil war. It’s narrated by Prince Oberyn, Joffrey, Dany’s brother and others.

Shireen’s screams are haunting. The conversations she has in this episode with Davos and Stannis are also great, and relevant to the prequel coming out soon. The child actors in this show are very impressive.

So terribly sad about Princess Shireen... And her mother recognizing in those final moments what she'd done made it even more painful. Bur Drogon arriving to save Dany and company was epic!!
I 1000% agree Stannis that showed himself to be no king or father. He allowed himself to be a puppet of the Red Woman and the Lord of Light.

During the Dance of the Dragons, Helaena Targaryen committed suicide. She jumped from the window of her room in Maegor's Holdfast. When she died, her dragon Dreamfyre, in the dragon pit, suddenly snapped two chains and roared loud enough to shake the entire pit.

This episode includes the only two scenes I want to skip in the show.
The first is Mace Tyrell in Braavos, because every time he opens his mouth I just feel crushingly embarrassed on his behalf. I don't even know what it is specifically, but his entire interaction in Braavos just makes me twist up and recoil inside.
The second is the Death of Shireen. I don't get terribly affected by the other horrors of this show. The Red Wedding is gruesome and cruel, but I can watch that without problem. Same goes for anything that happens to Theon, or for Sansa's Wedding Night, or any of the other scenes that people have very emotional reactions to. I feel it, but it doesn't dig in. Shireen's Death just makes me so endlessly sad and uncomfortable to watch.

Everyone is so upset that Dany left on Drogon - you know if someone shoots at an official they move and hustle them out to safety. No matter if the security or other counsel is left behind - it's all about protecting the head... I also wondered what happened to all the - Unsullied - then you look around Marren and it's a big place to patrol...

Stannis wins Father of the Year after the nomination for his earlier Princess Speech. This was one of many episodes that make me rank season five at the bottom of good feelings after the finale. The rage at the time of the original broadcast overwhelmed the previous two rape episodes. Even now those screams can haunt, forever ending the “Stannis the Manist cult.

    • @Leo_ofRedKeep

I knew Shireen would burn the moment Melisandre told her mother she would be needed later.
I knew Stannis was shit the moment he appeared (because trusting Renly's word in S1 would have been hasty). When Sallador Sahn said he was burning people in S3E01, there was no reason not to believe it and when we saw it happen in S4, it was his brother in law he was killing,
It was sad to see idiots fall for the daughter scene without realising they were being swung up only so their empty heads would be sounded like bells later on.

At the time I almost stopped watching the show because of it and I'm still angry that they did this to her BUT while (obviously) there is still a lot of death to come this is the last time something so unjust happens. Sometimes people give Dany s*** for just flying away and leaving Tyrion and the others in the arena, but it actually makes perfect sense. Once Dany was no longer there, the Sons of the Harpy didn't have a reason to keep attacking anymore. They were still facing quite a few Unsullied and would have suffered heavy casualties trying to kill them all, and with the chances of killing Dany completely gone it just wasn't worth it.

The burning scene in the North is very much like a scene in Helen of Troy(2003), with Rufus Sewell. The story is great, as it tells the story of Troy from the moment Paris is born. For years there's been a theory that Sylvio was really Jaqen in disguise.
I think it's true and that the Many faced God sent Jaqen to find her because she is special. All the Stark children are...supposedly. From what I've heard from the book readers is that all the Stark children can warg.
Well, we know that both Rickon and Bran can have visions. But Bran was destined to be more.
Robb's direwolf seemed to act on Robb's emotions. Example: The interrogation between Robb and Jaime.
Arya is learning to be a faceless assassin. I suspect not everyone has the magical capability to become one. Jaqen gave Arya a token to come to Bravos...I think he knew and was expecting her, because she was chosen for training.

I think a lot of people truly turned to hating Stannis after this episode, but you have to realize, Stannis believed this was the only way to save the world. He had been convinced he was Azor Ahai and only he could defeat the White Walkers. Ironically, from his point of view NOT killing Shireen was actually an ultimate act of selfishness. To forsake the world for his own daughter. Of course it was horrible, but the world of GoT is a horrible world. Jaime saved hundreds of thousands of lives, and gets called Kingslayer and Oathbreaker the rest of his life, Ned compromises his honor a single time to save his daughters, and it results in his death, etc. It’s a cold cruel world, and Stannis believed this was the only way. He was wrong, but hindsight is 20/20.

I must admit that when I first watched this episode, I was quite emotional at the end. First there was the burning of Shireen scene, which was quite upsetting. Then it makes the odd transition to Mereen. I think I may have screamed at the television because I couldn't believe the episode was daring to continue after that devastating scene. But the fighting pit scene was interesting because of the conversation between Dany, Hizdar, and Tyrion. It confirmed my suspicions about Dany and her not-so-altruistic desire to rule. But even though my view of Dany had already soured, I wasn't ready for her to die. I was thrilled that Drogon showed up. I cried when he was hit with spears. And I cried when Dany rode off on her beloved dragon. I was emotionally spent when the credits started to roll. Amazing!! And I have to say, I think Emilia Clarke was wonderful in this episode. Her "quiet" acting, with her face and gestures was outstanding.

I knew Shireen would be sacrificed since Melisandre told her mother in S4, so I felt the episode was wasting time with the Davos scene. At least the one with Stannis gave the key to him: the man who hates choices and just wishes to be a part in a well running machine, discarding those that don't fit, using up the others, all subject to a fantasised higher purpose.
The dragon riding was when I first was truly disappointed: that cheesy superhero junk was not Game Of Thrones anymore. This is when the show rode the dragon.
But the conversation with Hizdahr was also the moment in which Daenerys casually expressed utter disdain for people in general for not being the way she wanted them. She had been crucifying random suspects before, so we already knew the kind of ruler she was, but this went one step further.

The guy in the fighting pits against Jorah was a master Water Dancer like Syrio Forel that's why he had all that flourish to his moves and they were fluid

The Dance of Dragons tells the story of the Targaryen civil war, which will be depicted in the upcoming HBO prequel "House Of The Dragon" premiering next month. Not to be confused with Aegon's Conquest, The Dance Of Dragons takes place roughly 100 years *after* the conquest and 200 before the events you are currently watching.
I'm going to make a prediction and say they the breakout character in House Of The Dragon will be Daemon Targaryen, the Rogue Prince, portrayed by Matt Smith. Prince Daemon is one of George's best characters. If you took Prince Oberyn Martell, mix in a bit of Tywin Lannister and a bit of Tyrion, and you have Daemon Targaryen, The Rogue Prince.

Shireen is murdered Bc Melisandre needs to preform a blood sacrifice in order to work a major magic spell, she burned a little girl alive to raise magical power. Melisandre is easily the most morally grey character in GoT; she commits atrocities while believing it serves a greater good to literally save the world. She also engages in acts of heroism and self sacrifice, again in order to save every living thing in this world...
Very interesting & complex character, love her or hate her, Mel stays with you.

Lord of Light, yeah, right. How about about the LOL (LOL) has the Red Woman advise Stannis to double his sentries, just in case. And speaking of light, maybe send up a flare just as Ramsey's raiders are approaching. Apparently the gods work in mysterious ways.

The bad writing is already on full display.
Remember, Dany has 10,000 soldiers in this city - why aren't at least 1,000 on standby for her personal escort to defend from this?

Ramsey is my boy...all he needs is 20 good men and he will derail the whole operation.
The only thing that upset me in this whole show is Shireens death.
