- Hi Guys,
Back again with a brand new season for this crazy world I dipped my toes into! Events from previous seasons are so chaotic that I do not think I am ready for what is in store for me! With Winterfell in ruins, the dragon girl heading to Mereen, the golden lions spending money on weddings and the roses set to bloom in those weddings, I think I am in for a treat :) Let me just grab some popcorn. Here is my reaction to Season 4 Episode 1 of Game of Thrones.

Notice how Sansa is acting like she is praying in godswood when Jaime/Brienne spot her. Sansa knows they are up there so she keeps on the act of praying despite telling Tyrion she does not pray anymore. As soon as they leave Sansa looks up and goes her own way. A minor detail that shows her trauma, her loss of faith in gods and how much she wants to be left alone.
Your reaction seeing Pedro was priceless haha. Also his lover, Ellaria, is the spy that helps Kenobi and Leia in 1x03 of Obi-Wan.
What's more dangerous: coming between Prince Oberyn and his revenge, or coming between The Hound and his chicken dinner?
Well if someone manages to anger Oberyn enough for him to want revenge, that person must be dangerous in his own right, so the first option

Oberyn is my favorite character introduced in season 4. A real badass with a wry sense of humor, and who takes no crap from anyone. Amazing character.

Arguably one of my favorite hound scenes in this episode.

I love the hound and his actor is such a monstrous presence on screen.
Yeah Janos was the commander of the City watch of Kings Landing. He betrayed Ned (Hand of the King) attacked Starks and killed them and He was the one who was killing Babies(Robert's Bastards) so he was sent to the Wall as punishment by Tirion.
This is dumb and I've said it before, but I love taking the Hound way too seriously when he says "I'm going to HAVE TO eat every -" and just imagine him after that fight going to look for the chickens and finding like 36 and just sighing a deep sign, plopping down, and eating 35 chickens, just miserably yet committedly shoving 3467452 calories into his body, his stomach is screaming in protest, he's just staring at a point on the wall tears pouring down his face but not a single other sign of emotion or reaction, and he shoves chicken 35 down his face summing his entirely will to betray his body, and then we come back in to watch him riding away slowly finishing that 36th chicken just like he promised
Arya just stood there watching somewhere in between shock disgust and total detachment

The sword that Tywin was having reforged at the beginning was Ned's sword, Ice. It's the same sword that was used to take Ned's head off by Ser Ilyn Payne in season 1.

Thank you, I wasn't 100% sure but pretty damn close feeling that this was from Ned's sword! Decided to search comments before I said something. I knew someone caught that if they listened to her commentary. She is very, very sharp and catches as much as anyone I have seen, retains so much for someone who is watching for the first time. It's quite impressive actually, how in tune she is, often predicts the damn lines ahead of time..not to mention everything else. ..gonna watch more of the commentary maybe that was just a verbal slip up but yeah thanks for confirming my thoughts!

I love the storyline of the travels of Arya and The Hound and the relationship that seems to be building between them. It was from this point that they became my two favorite characters. Arya taking down Polliver was an epic moment. The Hound and his love of chickens is legendary.
The Hound and chicken scene at the end became very famous, especially online. There were jokes, pranks and memes created from it. I did a quick search to post one here, but I can't find one that doesn't contain a (possible) spoiler. Just know that The Hound is well known for his love of chickens!

18:31 - little fact: this actor, Yuri Andreyevich Kolokolnikov, is Russian, the only Russian actor they used in GoT. There was so much secrecy and attempts to avoid spoilers that upcoming actors were forbidden from saying that they were hired for GoT, for what role and for how long. He had another project in the works and had to convince that studio to push his shooting for two weeks (until he was done with GoT), but couldn't explain exactly why. Said it was an interesting conversation. He also said that as all actors on the show, he had a photo of him sitting on the Iron Throne and in real life the throne is much smaller than you think.

"People love their king." "They know I saved the city, they know I won the war" and Jaime silently replying "the war is not won". That's how the trailer of Season 4 starts and everyone did the CJ from San Andreas thinking about how Joffrey is going to troll us for another season : "Aww shit here we go again" 😂. Both the OG trailer and the DVD/blueray trailer feat. Hozier are fantastic. A very uncanny feel to them. The Hozier trailer might be my favorite GoT trailer ever. Fitting for the GOAT season. I actually don't hate the new Daario like some do. They're both missing the characteristic blue hair, but I always imagined Daario as more slick and cunning than brawns, which I feel fits this actor more. The other one always gave me Great Value Arnold vibes. But yeah, he'll probably grown on you over time.
The sword was actually Ned's sword. They've had it in king's landing since he was arrested. The sword was an ancient family sword for house Stark, named Ice (fun fact: Ice was used for Ned's execution. So he was beheaded with his own family sword).
And then tywin melted it down into too lanester swords to really Make it worse in the books he had Tue blades dyed red so even if you did reforge ice I'd never be the same.
If you go back and watch the beginning, there is a text at the bottom where she corrects herself saying it was Ned's sword. It's at 5:31
I hate when Hollywood does that... the whole pouring of steel into a mold thing. That's not how steel is forged. Bronze swords maybe, but not steel. I think this kind of imagery may have started with the Conan movies, and has somehow remained firmly stuck in the Hollywood mythos ever since.

The cold open itself tells a great story.We see the Blacksmith making the two swords from Ned's sword Ice as the slow and mournful Stark theme plays, which picks up pace and transforms into the Lannister theme as it cuts to Tywin sinisterly putting a symbolic nail on the Stark coffin by throwing the wolf carcass into the fire. And yes I know that's not how swords are actually forged, but the scene is aesthetically awesome 🤷♂️. Jaime...the one man in Westeros who can say no to Tywin's face and go on to tell the tale lol. The favorite son. Very different vibe from Tyrion's talk with Tywin at the beginning of last season.

In the last scene, the “chicken” scene, I very much loved the great lines by the Hound that lead up to the fight.

It's not only Ned's sword. The name of the Sword is Ice, the ancestral House Stark's Valyrian sword. The Starks have had it for over 8000 years and it's one of the most emblematic and important Weapons in the Song of Ice and Fire because of its story about of The Long Night, when The Others (the White Walkers) attacked for the first time and house Stark, the Wall and Night's watch were created.

Most have said the original Daario was recast because he was working on a Transporter movie. I believe the actor had said it was more political than that, but yeah. The mountain gets recast a couple times, but the Daario recast was the most confusing.
Not Robb's sword, Your Grace. But I can understanding not noticing the size of a sword if you're not used to owning and seeing them.
A Storm of Swords - Arya XIII: The Inn
......"Might be," said the Hound, "but you're dead." His foot lashed out and caught the bench, driving it hard into Polliver's shins. Somehow the bearded man kept his feet, but the Hound ducked under his wild slash and brought his own sword up in a vicious backhand cut. Blood spattered on the ceiling and walls. The blade caught in the middle of Polliver's face, and when the Hound wrenched it loose half his head came with it.
The Tickler backed away. Arya could smell his fear. The shortsword in his hand suddenly seemed almost a toy against the long blade the Hound was holding, and he wasn't armored either. He moved swiftly, light on his feet, never taking his eyes off Sandor Clegane. It was the easiest thing in the world for Arya to step up behind him and stab him.
"Is there gold hidden in the village?" she shouted as she drove the blade up through his back. "Is there silver? Gems?" She stabbed twice more. "Is there food? Where is Lord Beric?" She was on top of him by then, still stabbing. "Where did he go? How many men were with him? How many knights? How many bowmen? How many, how many, how many, how many, how many, how many? Is there gold in the village?"
Her hands were red and sticky when Sandor dragged her off him. "Enough," was all he said. He was bleeding like a butchered pig himself, and dragging one leg when he walked..........................
................................ a crack across the face that made him scream again. "Don't call me ser." He turned back to Arya. "This one is yours, she-wolf. You do it."
She knew what he meant. Arya went to Polliver and knelt in his blood long enough to undo his swordbelt. Hanging beside his dagger was a slimmer blade, too long to be a dirk, too short to be a man's sword . . . but it felt just right in her hand.
"You remember where the heart is?" the Hound asked.
She nodded. The squire rolled his eyes. "Mercy."
Needle slipped between his ribs and gave it to him......

Catelyn had no love for swords, but she could not deny that Ice had its own beauty. It had been forged in Valyria, before the Doom had come to the old Freehold, when the iron smiths had worked their metal with spells as well as hammers. Four hundred years old it was, and as sharp as the day it was forged. The name it bore was older still, a legacy from the age of heroes, when the Starks were Kings in the North.
That scene with Arya and The Hound at the inn is definitely in my top 10 of the whole series! Love it!

Fun fact. A very young Pedro Pascal is a Whedonverse alumni. He was in an episode of Buffy the vampire slayer. Season 4 -episode one, to be more specific. He looked sooo young.
Of course after watching him on GOT, and then later rewatching Buffy did I realize he was on the show before he became a big name.

Great reaction. This is one of my favorite seasons. The others are yet to come ;)
If you love Pedro Pascal, then you'll really love him in the netflix show Narcos. He plays a main character as one of the DEA agents to take down drug lord Pablo Escobar. It's also considered by many as his best acting role, despite playing Mando in the Mandalorian.
Before you could see the Hound actually cared for Sansa. Then you see him take Arya and try to return her to her mother. Now you start to see that he cares for Arya enough to start a fight and help her get a little bit of revenge. The more time you spend with him the more you realize he isn't ask that bad a guy. Takes time but you start to see what he really cares about and you live him for it. He knows it's a unfair world and just tried to survive, but every now and then a glimmer of light can be seen.
Possibly the best season opener. One of my favorite seasons. Pedro Pascal is fire!

A lot of people thought Daario Naharis got recasted because the fans got very heated about choosing a "pretty boy" for the show when the book version of him was so distinctly different with his 3 way pointed blue beard and blue curly hair, but the first actor Ed Skrein said it was more "political" than that so for sure we still don't know.

the wildlings are made up of many different people. they usually never come together but they are because of the white walkers. people south of the wall call them all wildlings but that is like calling people africans or asians as if there arent so many different people encompassed in that. btw when you said this is the way i lost it. so funny!

Teah Oberyn Martell has arrived. For me the best character. You'll see... it is really good character. One of his scenes for me is the best scene cinematography

I think that this is the greatest season. I don't recall any violence being on the same level, graphically speaking, as the Red Wedding. So though there is of course plenty of violence still to come, I think you have seen the worst. Others might disagree.
LOL yep Indian Calypso has become a lady of Winter now hahaha So your Lifeline Characters are: Daenerys( she said Khaleesi But that's not her name its a title Means Queen in Dothraki ), Arya, and Tyrion So the Next Titanic hitting the iceberg won't mean so much we will remember that

Let me tell you something. This episode should have had two parts. But my dear, you did wonderful with the editing on the last part! However, there has been an ongoing issue. Your moving screen really interferes with the ability to see what is going on. SHRINK IT and put it in one of the lower corners, please!!!!!!!!! That way we won't miss any of the good stuff!!!!
I've seen lots of reactors doing that but MOSTLY the reason is to "cover" something to avoid copyright 😉
