  • For decades the towering marble edifice that is the Washington, D.C. Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has posed a mystery to those outside the faith. Now, after a major renovation, CBS News' Ed O'Keefe takes a tour inside the temple, before a public open house that will welcome all to visit a building dedicated to reverence and contemplation.

David, this really is funny and well said. On the serious side, I do know folks who are afraid they will be stuck with a spouse or family member who they don't like in this life. I don't know if we become more likeable in the next life. There really is so much that we don't know about the next life. Evangelizing is illegal in Israel by anyone. The LDS church used to do proxy baptisms for victims of the Holocaust till they were told to stop (though they had to be told twice). Mormon missionaries go door to door to everyone else to tell them their religion is wrong (though they pretty much sugarcoat it these days).
The fact that individual Mormons might be nice people doesn't change the fact that their dogma is without merit.

I read this type of comment often on stories about Temples of the Church. I think that what is needed here is more understanding of the incredible humanitarian efforts that are the results of the free donations from the members of the church, in both time and money. Then I think, rather than being cynical about such money and attention going to structures like this, the response should be, “this must be a special church to build such structures that create a membership that is so freely giving of their time, talents and interests to helping others, non-member and member alike, all over the world.”

@@scottthompson9923 Ah, that joke never gets old :P We do not practice polygamy, though. Initially, when polygamy was practiced, it was for a multitude of reasons. Many of the women had been married with children but their husbands were murdered. As a woman at that time, they couldn't legally own land or work or do anything to provide. They had to have a man to take care of them. Also, they went to Utah which was not part of the United States at the time. There were no laws against it and if we're going to separate church and state, we should actually do so. Why is polygamy so frowned upon but polyamory is ok?

Their so called angel Moroni is associated with the cult called Mormonism or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day SAINTS(Colos 1:26 not knowing God’s MYSTERY called CHRIST=Colos 2:2,3). Mormons will NEVER find the EXPLANATION given in Luke 24:27,44 to make HEART BURN(Luke 24:32) inside their church(Rev 3:15,16) because they will NEVER find also the NAME of the Father revealed in John 17:6,26 to have in Rev 14:1 as being SEALED now in Rev 7:1-8)
Mormon religion was never announced in the Bible at all. However, Mormonism is contrary to what the Bible teaches about being a SAINT(Rev 14:12 etc).
Inside the book of Mormon it is written that FROM AN ANGEL FROM HEAVEN was received Mormons book BECAUSE in Galatians chapter one God commanded to SEE AS CURSED ANYTHING given FROM ANGEL FROM HEAVEN.
KNOWING the gospel of the Bible preached at first by John the Baptist to be preached also by Jesus you will clearly see that the Gospel preached by the book of Mormons is TOTALLY OTHER GOSPEL CONTRARY the gospel of the Biblel just as Galatians 1:6-9 announced.
Mormons book was written only by Satan WITHOUT KNOWING at first the gospel of the Bible preached at first by John the Baptist(Luke 3:18) and then also by Jesus was preaching THE SAME gospel beginning with His first missionary days(Mark 1:14,15 Mark 4:23 Matt 9:35 Matt 11:5 Luke 8:1 Luke 9:6 Luke 20:1
2Cor 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
Hebrews 4:2 For unto us was THE GOSPEL preached, as well as unto THEM(Jews in the Old Testament): but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.(Jud 1:3 Rom 9:31,32 Rom 10:5 Phil 3:6,9).
KNOWING the gospel of the Bible preached at first in the OLD Testament(Hebr 4:2 Jud 1:3) and KNOWING that THE SAME GOSPEL was preached also by John the Baptist(Luke 3:18) was preached THE SAME GOSPEL of the Bible AND THEN KNOWING that also by Jesus was preaching THE SAME GOSPEL of the Bible you clearly see that the book of Mormons is preaching A TOTALLY OTHER GOSPEL contrary to the GOSPEL of the Bible(Galatians 1:6-9) to make clearly for you that Mormons book was given ONLY by Satan.
Because through many Bible verses like Rev 22:18,19 God WARNED to NEVER ADD any word to the Bible THIS IS WHY Mormons ADED their book to the Bible to insult God saying that as all knowing God He was NOT INTELLIGENT enough to write in His Bible ALL what is necessary for salvation and for this reason Mormons saw as necessary TO ADD their book to the Bible to correct the Almighty all knowing God.
ADDING their book the Mormons make clearly that THEIR God was dull when He gave His Bible without ALL necessary for salvation and THEIR God is only LUCKY with their book of Mormon to make the God of the Bible as more intelligent having ADDED the book of Mormon.
&So is clearly to see the book of Mormons AS GREATEST INSULT AGAINST THE ALMIGHTY ALL KNOWING GOD of the Bible ADDING the book of Mormon to the Bible TO HELP GOD to be intelligent having the ADDED book of Mormon
HOW COME that Mormons cannot SEE the book of Mormon as GREATEST INSULT AGAINST GOD ??.
Later days church of SAINTS calling themselves as SINNERS because Colos 1:26 make clearly that ONLY TO SAINTS is given God’s MYSTERY called CHRIST(Colos 2:2,3).
Later days church of SAINTS calling themselves as SINNERS in Revelation 18:4,5 Rev 14:7 calling the world to COME OUT FROM SINS which means to KEEP God’s commandments which means to FEAR God(Rev 14:7).

There’s only one way to be saved. One way to heaven and its not through mormon or Catholic ( I was Catholic for almost 50 years) and not through any other religion!!!
Read the Bible, he massage of gospel is so simple that for many, apostle Paul said, becomes
      as a stumbling block.
We are saved by grace through faith and nothing else.
If we add anything else to that,
it is not the gospel of Jesus Christ, and therefore if it’s not THE GOSPEL but it is the false gospel.
Grace is getting what we don’t deserve , it is unmerited favor, and it means we don’t do anything in the process to obtain it.
We just simply receive it by faith.
The covenant , the promise of our redemption is based on what the Lord did, not what we do ,
therefore even if we sin God won’t break his promise to us ,because it was never conditional, it was never based on what we do, but only on what Jesus did for our salvation.
      That is grace!
      We don’t deserve it.
      We don’t work for it.
We don’t work to keep the grace,
      It’s free gift, unmerited.
Ether you hold on to your own righteousness or to Jesus righteousness. Which is it?
      Ephesians 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.
      FAITH ALONE
      Ephesians 2:9
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
      Galatians 5:4
Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace

I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed." (Galatians 1:6-10)
What is the true Gospel? The son of God sacrificed Himself to atone for all the sins of man. He fulfilled the law and through faith in Him we can be justified before God.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."(Ephesians 2:8-9)
We are completely saved and justified by faith in Christ and our faith and love and appreciation to Christ for this eternal salvation causes us to do good works- those are the evidence of our salvation not the basis of it. We are saved as a result of God's mercy and grace.
"Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them."(Hebrews 7:25)
"But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law."(Romans 3:21-28)

Hi Scott, if someone else considers something sacred, whether I agree with them or not, I like to treat it with respect and reverence. I love Jesus Christ and believe with all my heart that He is the Son of God, the Savior of the World. I hope others will respect that. I don't believe in all the tenets of Islam. However, I have a copy of the Koran, and I treat it with respect. I treat my Muslim friends with respect. I respect Hijabs and strive to understand why they are worn. I respect the great sacrifices it takes to fast during Ramadan and make pilgrimages to Mecca, even if I don't make the pilgrimage my self. I'm not Catholic, but I respect the sacrifices made at lent. I don't honor canonized saints like Catholics do, but I respect that they do; I understand it's sacred to them. I'm not Buddhist, but I'd never deface or disrespect (with my deeds or words) a statue of Buddha.
I have in turn, in large measure, received much respect from my Muslim, Catholic, and Buddhist friends. I appreciate that respect, even while they disagree or consider my beliefs as nonsense.
The hosts and staff of CBS may not believe in the Book of Mormon. They may not share the tenets of my faith, but I'm grateful they respected what I hold as sacred.

The true church is all about proclaiming what Christ has DONE to make us right with God now for all eternity. It’s a certainty.
Jesus Christ canceled the record of debt that was held against us. All you need to do is accept Christ by faith. It isn't because of who you are and what you must and can do for God. It is because of who He is and what He did for you in sending Jesus to be the sacrificial offering for your sins. To be your substitute on the cross and to satisfy the demands of God's law that stands against you.
Christ has done the one work that was necessary to reconcile you to God. Christ has done the one act of righteousness that could bring justification and life to all men. All Christ is asking with open arms is for you to lay down your religiosity and works at the foot of the cross and allow Christ to take it.
      Salvation is quite simple.
Luke 18 And He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt:
10 “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
11 The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
12 I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.’
13 But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’
14 I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

The outside of the temple is stunning but the inside pales in comparison....the celestial room of straight back couches?????? Why do they not use the same grand architecture on the inside? I have dear LDS friends. I'll ask them. Unfortunately not all LDS are granted "worthy" to enter. If marriages are "sealed" for eternity in the temple, how then do allow and grant so many divorces?

    • @michaeldenova4562
      @michaeldenova4562 Рік тому

Why so many divorces? Because we are human and imperfect! Sealings only work if both partners keep the promises, commandments, and the covenants they make with God and each other.

I have a better answer. I don't know if temple sealed mormons have a higher divorce rate than other faiths or the general population. I do know that the stresses in a typical LDS marriage are quite often unique. One has to understand the LDS culture, but in short, at 18 and 19 year old young people are strongly encouraged, today not unfair to say "obligated" to go on a two year mission, at least for young men, where they are under extraordinary supervision and control. You then immediately get married, certainly within a year, and promptly start making babies. So think about it. Eternity is a space time concept that humans can't fully even comprehend, but the culture has you marrying someone...anyone so long as they are a returned missionary and otherwise fit the temple bill but typically were acquainted with for only a relatively short time, for eternity. When you come to understand how cultishly controlling this religion is, it actually makes perfect sense. Get the young people committed before they go off and start exploring their youth and sexuality, and keep them committed.

@@scottcharney1091 Have you ever read the Book of Mormon fully before making these accusations? Really just wondering. Say what you want about how its fake or what not, but I guarantee you if you put aside those assumptions and read it fully with faith and having a longing to know more concerning Christ’s restored gospel, you will receive a testimony and God will manifest himself unto you (John 14:23).
(Moroni 10:4). I would also like to add that the feeling that I know everyone who worthily goes and takes part of temple covenants feels is a feeling so profound and peaceful that its so difficult to put even in words. But, its a feeling that I can testify on, something that has built my testimony of this Church and, most importantly, of Jesus Christ. I really do hope you take the time to try reading it and feel God’s love for you. 👍

@@scottcharney1091How do you know its fabricated if you have never read the book? You are a blind follower. Only clinging to the ideas of others, and then attacking believers with incorrect arguments/assumptions (Like your US one, claiming that we claim to believe that walled cities existed in the US or chariots or swords. Quick check on that, we believe that they existed in the Americas: ex. North and South America. And if you look towards history, many civilizations existed that could have, or have proven to, support those ideas). Obviously you really don’t know what you’re talking about or what you’re arguing against. But, it would be said in almost every book of scripture, that people like you would be here at the final days, leading to the Second Coming of the Lord. Like I said before, it is not too late to change your ways, repent, and come to Him, but continuing to attack members and children of God is not a thing I would want to talk about at that last day of Judgment, face to face with the Creator of our souls. Just saying. I am fine responding more if you want to ask anything concerning the “fabrications” of the Book of Mormon, or leave it here, leave your pride and just move on with life. I promise you its a true book of scripture and God loves you 👍
