I'm grateful for this video. Lon is a wonderful man and he did a great job giving this interview and tour.
This was so helpful to me, I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving a Mission at Church Headquarters. I was born in England and had a father who was a 33rd Degree Mason. My father new nothing of the church. I was converted in California 35 years ago. As it was considered a secret organization. he never spoke about it. All I remember is that his Lodge of Instruction meetings were Monday nights. I remember seeing his regalia and his white robe with the red cross on it , his red velvet cap and his sword, I thing that was Knights of Malta. It was not until he died suddenly at 45 years of age and his funeral was attended by over 350 men and women I had never seen before that I realized what it actually must have meant to him. I would so love a tour of this building and to learn more whilst I am here in Salt Lake City. Thank you again for this amazing presentation.
so you don/t mind that JOSEPH SMITH murdered people the day he was killed in a jail cell? wow - you people are really blind. you don't bother to seek truth you just believe any old lie they tell you

As a Latter-day Saint mason, I’ve found member of both organizations curious about each other, but with the same questions overlapping about secrecy and “what actually goes on in there”
But I’ve told each that my experience in masonry and in the temple enhances the other. One leads to salvation but both help me to be a better member of society and to be mindful of my fellow man.

This was a very interesting video to watch! I was a latter-day saint from 2019-late 2022 And my biggest catalyst for leaving was actually the temple endowment and Joseph Smith being a mason. Although I still have some of the same thoughts, if not all of them that I did then, this was a very helpful video to understand the differences between the faith and the fraternity
Come back
One thing that might be helpful to remember is that just because we don't have all the answers, doesn't mean we should throw away the things we have received answers to. If you have a bowl of various fruits that you like and don't like, are you going to throw away the whole bowl? No, you're probably going to keep the fruit that you do like and enjoy those. Same concept. God wants you back. We want you back. You are part of us and I don't have to know you to say that to you and to know it is true. Please think it over. :)
The auditorium has also been used for public music events. Many of us have been in there to attend the Christmas concerts of the music group The Lower Lights for several years. It's a beautiful space.
Nothing to fear. All powerful things can be used for good and evil but it's nice to see people demystifying this organization. I have a lot pf respect for them. Our country was build on Freemasonry.
As someone who is always curious about different belief systems and traditions, this video was incredibly enlightening for me. It was fascinating to see the parallels between Freemasonry and Latter-day Saint Temple ordinances and how they both emphasize principles of morality and spirituality.
Learning about the rich history and symbolism within the Salt Lake Masonic Temple was truly eye-opening. I appreciate the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of these interconnected traditions and how they contribute to the spiritual growth and enlightenment of their members.
Thank you for sharing this insightful exploration, it has provided me with a new perspective and appreciation for the diversity of spiritual practices in the world.
Great insight!
Thanks for this. It cleared up some things. My testimony has never wavered over whether or not our temple ceremony came from the Masons, but it’s good to know what the Masons stand for.
They don't stand for anything good. They just have a front they show the public- now that their name is in the public eye.

Did the Illuminati infiltrate the European lodge in the early 1800's ans start changing it? Albert Pike, leader of the Knights of the Golden Circle, supposedly the highest ranking mason in the world in the mid 1800's, had a "dark" history.
Wow thanks for this, I'm LDS from the Philippines and have so many questions about Joseph Smith and it's affairs in Freemasonry.
My Grandfather was a Mason and loved the organization. I think a fraternity of men who use myths to better themselves and do charitable work is lovely, but the moment at 15:40 in that says Freemasonry borrowed from other places and therefor we can't say Joseph Smith borrowed from Freemasonry is a disingenuous leap in logic. JS clearly "adapted" a great deal of the masonic ordinance into what became the temple ceremony. 'Catalyst' is the "get out of jail free card" used in both temple ordinance and Book of Abraham LDS apologetics.

My Dad was a Mason and always wore the ring..
HE WAS a Methodist and we were LDS.. He was the most compassionate man I ever knew in my life.. He joined the LDS church in 1996.. One story my Mom always told was back in the day when my oldest brother was a baby .. They were driving on vacation and broke down on side of the road ..
my dad got out and walked about a 1/2 mile or so and after about an hour came back with help
My mom questioned him and he told her he had used a hand gesture that stopped another Mason brother and he came to his side..
I’ll never forget that story ..
What a cool story.
As a black Latter Day Saint convert - I’m just struggling in general. This just adds a whole other layer. Coming to know that black men were denied the priesthood until 1978 has been hard. It feels like I have to climb Mt Everest just to be a normal person in society. I’m very happy that so many people have benefited from what so many people call an incredible organization - the Masons. These are wonderful principles- but as a Black American - I just wanted to share with you guys that it’s extremely lonely to see everyone having their traditions and you just feeling like a second rate citizen.
I am so sorry to hear that you feel second class. I don't feel you are. There have been misunderstandings over time but you have NEVER been second class. There is a time and place for everything and if you trust God, things happen in His time.
@@EYELIDWAVE I am sorry you have been struggling. I believe the church to be true but unfortunately it is a construct under the laws of man but the principles of God. The establishment of the church was during slavery and Indian genocide. As members joined the church they had to deal with their own genocide and it really was not until after the Civil rights movement that the administrative body of the church could enforce any new revelation and do the PR necessary to get people to make changes. It take years to change people. The word of wisdom took more than a generation to become second nature to members. Blacks and priesthood is no issue to the younger members and soon we will be more inclusive to those dealing with gender fluidity. The church needed to have a formula to function as a body of people who did not relate from all nations and walks of life. The Masonic formula to make a unified fraternal brothers group from unlike people has been found to work in founding other groups. Elks lodge, Moose, Eagles, OddFellows all follow the formula. The LDS church benefits from its founders using the structure of the Masons to keep brothers and sisters giving service to each other and resources to the organization. God is using imperfect people and governments to keep the church alive. It is slow and beaurocratic and will become a larger world power slowly. The Masons are not growing like they had been so their influence is less than it has been. Just keep following the teachings of the church. The Masons say that you will get out what you put in. The more you follow the lessons the greater change for good you will experience. Keep the faith.
@@EYELIDWAVE You are needed. I know it can feel so disheartening to learn of that. There were also black members in the 1840s when the faith was still freshly restored. I feel if Joseph Smith wasn't murdered, there would probably be even more in the faith by now. Some of us still feel like we don't fit in for other reasons too. A wise person told me once to "not judge history by today's standards". It's helped me a lot. If you haven't started working on your family history, start doing it. It is a great way to feel connected to your ancestors and honor their sacrifices and if you haven't gone to the temple yet, make it a goal. They need you as much as you need them. And finally, as a convert think back to your conversion and the feelings of the spirit and your testimony. I hope this helps ☺️ 💗

Basically yes, but some lodges have started allowing women. There’s two types of these lodges “feminine” lodges that are women only, and “mixed” lodges which is exactly what it says it is. @zon3665 every instance of secret combinations includes that the purpose of such are to get gain or power, to carry out wickedness, and to protect the wicked from being discovered or from suffering justice.
It starts in the "more wicked" part of a society and spreads.

Nice video. I am an LDS Freemason in Utah, and I have been in that building many times, but it still amazes and delights me to see or hear about some detail that had escaped me in the past. I too feel like Masonry has enhanced my church worship, and edified me as a person trying to be more like Jesus Christ. @@MichaelBurk-sj1tw Albert Pike was a man; not a secret. He was a great thinker and highly educated, and was highly influential on the form and substance of the Scottish Rite. He is thus generally held in high esteem by Freemasons (especially Scottish Rite Masons), and why a bust of him can be seen in the grand hall in the Utah temple. Some people accuse Pike of weird things like Luciferianism, but those claims are entirely baseless, and come from a misreading out of context of half of a particular paragraph in his book Morals and Dogma of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, which I have next to me on my shelf right now.

Awesome video. This is fantastic. I have always been interested in Masonry, and have family members who are.
Very informative !
Well done. I'd would love to be able to visit that Masonic Lodge. We have nothing like that in Louisiana. My lodge basically split in two. One part is our meeting room or temple, and the other is for non-masonic gatherings. Like eating. That room has a very large kitchen and we cook many of our meals there. Unlike many lodges, we eat first and then conduct our meeting. I don't know if it's a thing, but many of our Motorcycle lodges don't have a building at all, and use other lodges facilities for their meetings. We just hosted one this last Saturday. And we've assisted in raising some of their Fellow Craft's masons to Master because they don't have enough members to do it on their own.
So cool
When the church took away parts of the earlier endowment to distance itself from freemasonry (at the time the church did not acknowledge the similarities) is when the light clicked on that the temple ordinances were not inspired as God. It would be interesting to do a show on Freemasonry and how it differs from Stone Masons.
Yes. They need to be honest with how the 'revelations' have changed. It's heartbreaking for anyone who has put their faith in these ceremonies and the need to do them just right to reach God/the highest level... Yet now, aspects have been changed. Similar to BOM that witnesses say the stone revealed each word specifically to JS and wouldn't show the next world into they got it just right.... Yet... The modern BOM is not what was originally dictated. How can that be right?
Geometry is also part of art.
I so enjoyed this tour and experience! Thank you!

This was very interesting. I’ve always wondered why Joseph Smith adapted some of the words and symbolism from Freemasons. It makes sense. Truth is not found only in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Fascinating!
Joseph Smith did not adapt anything from this group. This secret society's true motives are opposite to the truth as revealed through the prophet Joseph.

How fascinating.
Im a black belt in Taekwondo (World taekwondo federation) and i can tell you the tradition, symbolism, and lore from that style has more overlap into lds teaching and culture than youd think. You start as a white belt, 10 gup (no experience), move down to 1 gup (red belt) and become a black belt. Then, almost like being baptized, you realize how much you dont know and tbat its also your responsibility to teach others. You then become 1 dan, and you progress to 9th degree black belt (the whole process taking decades). Technically, a 10th dan is a 9th degree grand master whi has died in that rank and now is on the other side of tbings. But the lore and wisdom, teaching bad men to be good and good to be better is intensely interesting.

I add my appreciation for the information. It adds to the truths found all around me. This gives me incentive to look for avenues to become better than I am. Thank you.
I love the videos that you guys put out exploring different aspects of the history of the church. I am not Mormon and yet I can see how there is definitely a borrowing of things from Mason rituals and designs. The upside down star in the Mason temple sure looks like the ones that are on the temple in Nauvoo.
Is this video a small way for the church to admit that it has masonic symbols and actually uses several things from masonry in the temple ceremonies? I am not trying to start any arguments, I just want to legitimately know the truth. Keep up the great work and thank you for showing us outsiders and members what's going on behind the scenes.
It cannot be overlooked that millenia before there were Masons, and millenia before there were Aztecs, there were Temples.
On consulting the scholars, one will find that it was the Masons who borrowed from the Temples, not the other way around. One of the oldest books in the world is the Temple Scroll, which bears out the antiquity of the Temples, and multiple dispensations of the Gospel.
It was a practice, over time, to claim to have knowledge that one did not necessarily have, in order to gain influence and power. As a result, we see the ruins of true Temples alongside the ruins of copycat temples The Masons were/are among the latter.
Joseph Smith had access to the Oracles of God. Through him the Temple was restored in it's purity, as it was in the beginning.
Just remember that no individual member with a youtube channel short of the President of the Church, First Presidency and/or quorum of the 12 can speak on it's behalf when it comes to offical standings.
With that said, it is well known, as explained in this video that Joseph Smith Jr. was indeed a mason and used truth(anywhere he could get it) and was inspired from the Holy Spirit to use masonic symbolism in some aspects. I can't speak from a masonic side of things.
Growing up and finding out about these things I was also curious and asked about them. Who's to say that good men aren't inspired whether or not they are part of a specifc church. The Holy Ghost testifies of the truth of all things, whether that be spiritual or secular.
Maybe knowledge and truth had been passed down from the early saints, to the templar, to the masons...that's my personal theory.
Joseph didn't need to "borrow" anything from the Masons. That's the lazy conclusion. Joseph restored what the Masons are but a limited, piecemeal, apostate version of.
I edited this video and toured the masonic temple several times now. Each time I thought of how different we are. As the video says, 10% of the LDS endowment is similar to Masonry. The rest is from the Bible. Both organizations use the bible.
Considering LDS temples also have baptisms, initiatories, sealings, that probably brings the percentage down to like 1% of LDS temple ceremonies are similar to Masonic rituals. So you can see how every time I went to the SLC temple, I was reminded how different it is.
What is similar between Masons and Latter-day Saints seems even less, when you add in other similar rituals from churchs like Catholics or even secular University graduations (with their caps and gowns).
So Joseph Smith was translating the Book of Abraham, and he saw temple practices in it. Then he became a Mason and he saw temple practices in it. He was probably familiar with Catholics. And he probably knew the Book of Mormon enough to see it's temple practices. Certainly he knew the Bible enough to know about Solomons temple.
All that came together to Joseph Smith, at the right time, to allow him to be open to the Lord in restoring the temple. In a way, I guess you could say the Lord inspired Masonry to come along Joseph's path.
Joseph saw good in Masonry and adapted a small portion of it into our inspired version of the temple. Sure, some things are very similar, but in a way, Joseph saw the value of the teaching method, and used it. It's kind of the same how when LDS leaders came accross film and video, they adapted film into our temple ordinances because they help teach the principles. Rituals are very powerful, and it makes sense that Masonry, a practice founded on biblical rituals, would ring true to Joseph Smith.
Our church and symbols on the outside of our temples from that period has nothing to do with this organisation. Members of the Maysons un-alived the prophet Joseph. Our rituals, practices and Covenants have nothing to do with this group. Our practices come from God and antiquity older than this group. This group admits to stealing information from Solomon's temple. This video is not correct in any way and we have no connection or familiarity with this group or their purposes.
Very insightful. Thank you.
Master Masons can become Shriners. Shriner's Hospitals are one of the finest charitable organizations on earth. Our oldest son was born with multiple birth defects and had many surgeries at Shriner's Hospitals in South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Utah. My wife and I appreciated the world-class health care, but even more importantly, we loved how the Shriner's system made our son feel important and empowered. If masonry didn't care about religion, then why was Utah's first grandmaster still arresting members of the church? Did they consider their civic duty above their Mason duty?
Part of the answer to that was that it was his job to arrest polygamists, so he was following the law. But while Masonry asks it's members to overlook religion and politics, it doesn't mean it the members don't do it. Many of our founding fathers were Masons, and they probably snuck in some politics in masonic temples. So while Masonry's ideal is to look past religion, it still happens. And if the leaders of the lodge are very opinionated, it'll come through.
I have a curious question if he is a bishop and a masonry, when does he apply the principles he learn from both? When does he spend time with his family and the needy? Knowing the work of bishopric is a lot of work and responsibilities. It would be good to ask his wife .

The similarities in Lucy Mack's Plea over her dead son's and the Mayson cry "Is there no help for the Widow's Son" is interesting. Indeed, if one denounces any organization based solely on the fact that it has secrets which are only divulged to the initiated, one must also denounce both the modern LDS Church AND the ancient Christian Church established by Jesus and the Apostles (and which are well-documented to have included secret initiatory Mystery rites).

If you a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints,if you hold the Priesthood of God, then why do you need more? Could you explain the 33 degrees of masonry.

@@MrDentistspb Secret combinations ?
@@MrDentistspbJoseph Smith needed to learn how to present symbolic teachings. Saints volume 1 explains it.
It's very similar to Boy Scouts, but for grownups. Actually, Boy Scouts was started by a Mason (hence the clothing and handshakes and stuff). It's an organization that helps people be better, using the power of ritual.
The Book of Mormon denounces secret combinations as "most abominable and wicked above all, in the sight of God." Fantastic and needed discourse on this historically rich topic.
Thank you for increasing our understanding of this wonderful organization. Very interesting.

Free Mayson ry is not an honourable organisation. It is opposite to good.
I highly doubt that a secret combination would uphold such values as friendship, integrity, respect and service. By their fruits you shall know them. It is also written that in the Last Days good shall be called evil, and evil shall be called good.
@joshuagentry3118 - I just can't believe that Scripture Central would advertise such an organisation and tell people that somehow we come from them. Ughhh!! I think there are probably multiple maysons in scripture central.
EXCELLENT PROGRAM!!!!
You can be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and be a Mason?
Very odd huh?
Well done! This was fascinating

This was so interesting. I'm LDS, but knew next to nothing about Masonry other than my Presbyterian grandparents, great grandparents were Masons (and the ladies in the Order of the Eastern Star) and you would be hard-pressed to find more honorable and righteous people anywhere than them.
Any kind of group has its own symbols and customs that are uniquely theirs.
As imperfect humans living in a world where evil exists, any group can also have people in it who abuse their power, but that doesn't make the whole institution bad.
If you have a social group or fraternity type group that's supports self-improvement and moral direction, that's highly commendable. If they're seeking the qualities of righteousness that any member of any church should also be seeking -- as long as it's not a religion unto itself -- then that can help us reach those higher qualities in ourselves.

Is it not a secret society?
It's rituals are private. But they are a public society. Their building is open to others to use. Our founding fathers were a part of it.
Yep it is literally part of the world wide secret combination. No good comes from being part of it. JOSEPH Smith was told to be involved so that the Lord could set up the Judases of Joseph's day.
Our church has NO roots in this organisation. It's like saying the same person invented the bike and the car because they both have wheels.
Only insofar as "secret society" is defined by Merriam-Webster:
"any of various oath-bound societies often devoted to brotherhood, moral discipline, and mutual assistance"
Yes, it's a secret society with levels of secrecy. It does not make good men better, it takes good men and wastes their time at least and corrupts them at worst the further one moves up the levels. Just like the flaxen cords of Satan. Once they realise what they have gotten themselves into, the organisation have them oath bound and have blackmail info on them that binds them to secrecy. I can't for the life of me fathom why church members would admit to being part of this sat-an-ic colt.
@zandersturgill - sorry you don't like the truth on your videos being exposed. Have fun with your sat-an-ic secret society.
People get all tore up about the mason lodge lol it is just a group of people that get together there aint nothing amazing about it it has had a lot of famous members but so what lol
This is so neat to see and understand how things influenced Joseph Smith and led him towards revelation
No, this has nothing to do with our temple and everything to do with setting up merderers to have no excuse for the crime of un-aliving a prophet.
Great video, thanks for the content. The Masonic temple in Philadelphia is amazing as well. They give tours and it's beautiful.
Interesting as a UK woman. Its all very ornate. As long as they are good people and just helping others.
"Today we have the rare privilege of going inside the Masonic Temple. We're going to film a tour..."
Why all the sensationalist clap-trap? The fact that there are tours tells you the Temple is open to the public. All you have to do is ask...
Are you kidding, you mean BC origin.
A Masonic book called "A Bridge to Light"(1995) by Rex R. Hutchens mentions this on page 88, regarding the "Royal Arch of Solomon (13th Degree)"
"The older versions recount that the True Word was engraved on a triangular plate of gold which was cast into a dry well; but the new versions related that the True Word, also engraved on a golden plate, was deposited in a purposely prepared place to be found centuries later by three masters".

@ 8:40 prayers and worshipping other Gods is an offense to God.
Nobody said in the video that a Mason worships other gods when attending Lodge meetings.
No Mason worships other gods by attending Lodge meetings, nor is he expected to.
Joseph copied from masonry for the endowment ceremony. It’s that simple
You really should read on the subject.
As a Mason and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I can assure you that the similarities are not a result of “theft”.
Freemasonry is not a religion and offers no path to salvation.
And then he went back in time and encoded temple symbolism into the book of mormon.
@JonLundy0 You’re simply just trying to link things that aren’t there. Humans have an ability to read any symbolism into anything. Give an example of the temple symbolism in the Book of Mormon that you’re talking about
Maybe Masons copied the ceremony?
Why don’t you ask Heavenly Father, see what he says.
Well the word veil is in the book of mormon...haha.
