Nothing beats a good gear rant! I also have the Norvan sl2s, and like them. Love how they dry quickly, but getting them on is a pain.

Got la sportiva cyklon recently and i love them. They are low volume, boa system locks the foot in nicely + allows for quick adjustments, heel has pretty solid support and i like the fact they have a small gaiter up top to prevent debris/mud from getting in your shoe (because of that they arent the easiest shoe to get your foot in tho), didnt pay much attention to sole protection but so far never had any discomfort while running/hiking in them so i guess it does the job there for me.
I was looking to get something i could use for occasional trail running but also just normal hiking and so far im really happy with these.
As for the sizing i got them in the same size as my aequilibrium st boots and the fit is perfect.

Sadly arcteryx is just a fancier Salomon, there is very little over it there, except somewhat higher tech standard. Great video.

I didn't like the Hoka speedgoats and got some Altra Lone peaks instead, and I think they are more stable and have better groundfeel. I got blisters with the Hokas because I was bouncing around in them so much, but I do think the Hoka is a good walking shoe. I agree that everyone values different aspects.

Surprisingly I’ve never been able to get a good fit in Altras, I know a lot of people who have them and swear by them. They’re definitely a highly regarded brand in the trail running world
