This was a great review and the most concise explanation I’ve heard yet, as a new runner understanding a lot of the jargon in the running community is a learning curve. Your explanations of stack height, why the heels are thicker on hokas(which may translate to other brands as well), how the really plush shoes can get mushy for long runs and cause some issues(potentially) are all wonderful bits to know! Well done!!
I use the Mach on the treadmill, but for me it was a revelotion when I tried Hoka Stinson for the first time! I have a problem that my ancle is twisting very easy on trail running, but Stinson is very wide so it`s like a snowshoe 😄 almost impossible to twist my ancle in those!
I have a very narrow foot. Bought a pair of Clifton 9’s. They felt good. Decided to get 2 pair of Bondi 8’s. Had to send both back because they were 2 narrow. Liked everything else about them. Every brand and model shoe I don’t need a wide. Don’t understand why the Bondi 8’s were too narrow.
I switched to Altra after getting injuries with Nike shoes, and pretty much injury free (except for when I didn't take enough time and energy on recovery). You could say I've fallen down the Rabbit Hole of Altra and now just worried about the width a bit and also the heel-to-toe drop of other brands. Watching your video I might want to try Hoka in the future. Only problem is, I'm living in Japan, which is awesome but they don't do US14 here. Same for Altra. They go up to like US12. I always am just waiting for some online retailer to have any in my size for a decent price, usually can't even pick a color...
Nice run through of the shoes. Would have loved if you could have commented on the use of them a little more e.g. for which kind of runs would you use them 6k, 21k full marathons or longer? I've been doing trail running from 10k to 50k and with that loving my Hoka Mafate and SpeedGoats, but now I'm signed up for a couple of road marathons and looking for a suitable shoe for those +40km runs. I'm not trying to set a speed record and being a casual trail runner, I'd say I have more of a jog style than a running style, if that makes sense? To save my legs on those longer runs would you recommend a more plush shoe like the Bondi or would you say that as a non-elite runner, I'd be better of with the saved weight of say the Mach? On the BondiX and breakdown of the carbon fiber plate, how long would you say they last and what are you left with once they are reduced in term of spring?
I need an all-rounder as i am just getting jnto running, but am planning to do recovery runs, sprint intervals, and long runs with one shoe. I don’t know what my preferences might be, but I know that I would like to start running faster.
Pegasus plus would be good for all round, or hoka Clifton if you want hoka. Since you’re new to running, I wouldn’t recommend anything with a carbon plate or really high tech.
Great shoe comparison! I LOVE the Mach 5's, but hated the Mach 4's. I think the 5's are a HUGE improvement in a lot of ways. Oddly enough, I disagree on the Bondi and Mach width comparisons - I tried the Bondi 8 and I hated them, they were so tight and narrow on my feet and super stiff. Not plush at all. BUT, for me, when I put on the Mach 5's, wow what a difference! Naturally wider for my toes to splay more normally, and oddly enough, felt a lot more cushion under foot than the Bondi as well. So cool how we all have such different feet. But as much as I love my Mach 5's, they aren't max cushion enough for me to feel comfortable running a lot in them. I use them mainly for walking up to 5 miles a day walking dogs as my job, so they are amazing for that, but I am a bit on the heavier side, and I need a more max cushion daily running sneaker while I'm still losing weight. It's too much pressure on my knees and ankles to run in something that doesn't have max cushion. I used to run all the time, miss it, but it's a little more challenging with some extra weight on the body, thus why I need an amazing shoe to help me during my weight loss journey.
@@ariellenelson8512 I did...I just picked up the Asics Nimbus 26...they are amazing! I think im going to 86 Hoka from my shoe rotation all together- they just wear out too fast, especially the ones that dont have thick soles. Absolutely loving the new Nimbus 26 so i highly recommend them for cushion, support (neutral but supportive), and a bit of a wider base so I feel really stable, which I love ❤.
Hi Amanda, which Hoka is most similar to my favorite stability runner, the Nike Air Zoom Structure 18? Since you have such a long history running, you should remember this Nike shoe which has since been drastically changed by Nike. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the thorough review. Do you have recommendations for a posterior tibialis tendon injury? I have a “fallen” arch. I’ve been trying different shoes and considered the Clifton.
Which one would be best for both walking as exercise and wearing all day long as a normal sneaker with a lot of walking around campus? Casual for most of the day but for the exercise a little more support?
This was SO helpful! What do you recommend just for walking? I have chronic back pain and need something supportive and I can't deecide what would be best!
Hi there, thanks for your video. Could you give me some advice on what shoes (Hoka or not) to get for everyday use, not running, walking and standing? I have several feet issues, as ankle arthritis, some degree of plantar fascitis, and pain on my heels, as well as on my left big toe. I would really appreciate any advice, as I am totally lost on what to get! Thanks!
With PF, you will generally benefit from having a shoe with a bit of support so it's comfy but not just super soft that you sink in to which would be the Bondi. I would look at the Gaviota or the Arahi. Both are technically stability, the gaviota is going to be the most cushioned. www.runtothefinish.com/hoka-walking-shoes/
Hello ! I have flat feet and I have try the bondi 8 and I love the maximin cushion but I read they are not for over pronation … which one will work for me ?
Overpronator and heavy runner here. I ran in both Asics Kayano 29 and Hoka Gaviota 4 and I just love the Hoka that I even bought a second pair. The Gaviota is their max cushion, max stability shoe for overpronators. Another model would be the Arahi 6 which is also a stability shoe for overpronators but to a less degree.
Hello there, Im doing my first ironman in 4 weeks, I currently have a pair of clifton 8 which Im starting to feel abit of pressure on my knees at 8 miles. Which shoe would you recommend for a marathon?? Really struggling to choose and im 4 weeks out. Many thanks.
I am a teacher on my feet all day walking fast, about 12,000 steps a day, and I have a bad back. Which ones do you think would work best? I love wearing Hokas but haven’t found the best yet.
I bought a pair of Hokas because physical therapists recommended them. They were amazing for about a month. The toe box was wide and felt amazing. Within a month the instep broke down and my foot started hurting.I have flat feet. My hip on the same side hurts. I paid $165. I will never buy them again.

Great review, I would love to know which one is best for road running to avoid knee pain …

Have you found a better cushioned running shoe?

Love my Bondi 7’s, very comfortable!
Mach 5 and Torrent 2 are my Hoka’s of choice for part of my shoe rotation.
Helpful review! Thanks
The best review of Hoka shoes I ever seen. thanks!
wow thank you so much!
Would the Bondi 8 be a good walking shoe for women with metatarsal issues? Or your best comfortable walking shoe advice.
I’ve been running in the Bondi 8 and Mach 6. And the Bondi is pretty much a walking shoe. It would be perfect
I walk at least four miles a day. I’m 70. Wear nothing but Hokas. I prefer the Bondi 7;or 8.
It’s “Bond-Eye”… like the beach in Australia :)
Hi Amanda, which Hoka is most similar to my favorite stability runner, the Nike Air Zoom Structure 18? Since you have such a long history running, you should remember this Nike shoe which has since been drastically changed by Nike. Thanks in advance.
How does the Gaviota compare to these?
Thanks for the thorough review. Do you have recommendations for a posterior tibialis tendon injury? I have a “fallen” arch. I’ve been trying different shoes and considered the Clifton.
The Ahrahi could be best for arch support. Or the Clifton with and insole
My favorite is the Clifton 9
Which one would be best for both walking as exercise and wearing all day long as a normal sneaker with a lot of walking around campus? Casual for most of the day but for the exercise a little more support?
Side note: I’ve struggled with plantar fasciitis a lot in the past and I think It might have to do with my foot wear.
I’d say Clifton www.runtothefinish.com/hoka-walking-shoes/
Do they make just a Leather Shoe for winter?
This was SO helpful! What do you recommend just for walking? I have chronic back pain and need something supportive and I can't deecide what would be best!
The Bondi and Clifton are both good options, the Bondi is going to be way more cushioned which can feel really nice.
What shoe would you recommend fof running a marathon?
seasonal vs core just color combos?

Hi!!! Which one would you recommend for an every day user (not runner) for comfort? Like the one one
clifton or bondi - bondi even more cushioned, but you may not like the look as well
Hi Amanda, thank you for the review! what model would you recommend for a novice who has recurring problems with knees?
sorry for the delay! I would actually recommend the new shoe they came out with (and strength training!!) www.runtothefinish.com/hoka-skyflow-review/
What hoka shoe, you recommend for ultra marathon runners? Tnx
Which one is good for flat feet
What shoe is good for walking
Hey, which one do you recommend for a beginner runner? I really need a pair that will motivate me and makes the process easier.
I really like the new Skyflow! www.runtothefinish.com/hoka-skyflow-review/
They aren’t specifically a stability shoe. But all HOKA provide decent stability based on the platform of the shoe.
I love the Torrent shoes, have a pair of 3s on their way. I cannot stand the Clifton, I liked the Rincon okay-meh.
Which Hoka would you recommend for triathlons and post event day to day shoe? Considering Clifton or Mach?
For racing I'd go with the Mach. But day to day walk around Clifton.
Hi i run about 3-4 times a week fr about 10k, which ones would you recommend. Thanks for the video
I really like the Mach for that!
I were 7 1/2 adidas Ultraboost 21 should i take size up or same size ? Coz it’s online order . Thanks
Same size should work
Which would you recommend for plantar fascitis?
My top 4 are here, they’re all more stability than HOKA www.runtothefinish.com/plantar-fasciitis-runners/
Which one if you have Achilles tendinitis?? Need to purchase asap
Hoka doesn’t have any with a very high heel drop, which can be helpful for Achilles. I tend to recommend amzn.to/2ZlT0nH
Going to pick up my first pair of hoka after running a while in my asics kayano 29, do u think i should get clifton 9 or mach?
Since the Kayano is supportive probably the Clifton
@@RunToTheFinish perfect! Just got back from window shopping and saw clifton 9 on 50% off!! Going back tmr to get it! 😛
Which one would be good for a 42km. Hows the Rincon?
It’s one I actually haven’t tested yet
The bondi is just to clunky for me. I wear a 10 wide and the bondi just looks like a big boat on my foot. The machs are more pleasing.
I am a teacher on my feet all day walking fast, about 12,000 steps a day, and I have a bad back. Which ones do you think would work best? I love wearing Hokas but haven’t found the best yet.
The Elevon might be a good option, it’s got a bit more support as a walking shoe and is going to help with the back bit.ly/3OTqHoK
In paper, Hoka running shoes would be perfect for me as a runner, but unfortunately, they are too expensive in my country.
They are very expensive in every where, but they’re very good
I bought a pair of Hokas because physical therapists recommended them. They were amazing for about a month. The toe box was wide and felt amazing. I wish the esthetics were better
how old are you
Vocal fry
I am a barefoot runner, so the answer for me is easy
I want to buy Hokas but they are all so hideously ugly.
Oh I thought I'm the only one who thought the same thing
I get crazy bad shin splints and am a beginner with running and use a treadmill. Which one should I go for ? Please help me out I’m so confused 🥹🥹
