Arc'teryx Norvan LD3 Review: A long distance trail shoe that's surprisingly nimble

- The Arc'teryx Norvan LD3 is a long-distance trail shoe that’s designed to offer a balance between cushioning, support and grip. There’s an InFuse midsole for comfort and impact protection, a Vibram Megagrip outsole with 4mm lugs to tackle varied terrain, and an increased heel and forefoot stack to absorb shock.
Tom has tested the shoe over 70km or trails to see if it's worth adding to you rotation.

Thanks for the review really helpful purchasing it
Thanks for your review. Agree it’s better than the Speedgoat 5 as you point out. But having just raced a very rugged alpine 50-miler yesterday here in the Colorado Rockies, I found the Hoka Tecton X - a plated shoe much less tippy than the Norvan or the Speedgoat - superior to both, including the 10,000’ of vertical gain on technical terrain.
That's good to know. You've definitely pushed the Tecton X further than I have so far. Will look at doing at versus with that at some point.
Nice review, I'd say the more fitting alternative from Saucony is the Xodus Ultra rather than the Endorphin Edge. I'd also suggest the Salomon Pulsar Trail (non Pro) as a similar shoe.
This isn't the GTX version, right?
How is this performing with moisture/water? I tend to dislike waterproof trail shoes, because they are never full waterproof and work as a bucket holding all this water in place. This upper does looks fairly (over?) Engineered; is it drain moisture?
1:17 Didn't you say "possibly size up a half" from the First Run Review? Is the problem with your big toe rubbing against the end of the shoe gone?
Are these really better than the speedgoat 5s?
Great review Tom but it seems this shoe would me for the more 'casual' trail runner rather than someone who would race a lot in them, especially, as you say, a British cross country course with mud!
I wouldn't say " casual " . Just not designed for mud. Quite similar to a Salomon Sense Ride 4 since Arc'teryx is part of the Salomon group and borrows some of their tech....
