I QUIT Caffeine and It CHANGED My Life... Here's How!

  • I decided to quit caffeine and see what happens. I wanted to see if my coffee addiction made my life better or worse, so without much thought, I stopped and wanted to see if the symptoms were as as bad as I feared.
For the first week the headaches were brutal. But then, well, I felt great! And in this video I am going to explain why I felt so much better and how you can feel better too with a simple change to your thought pattern.
Just a warning though which I didn't include in the video... it can be quite uncomfortable coming off caffeine. I got massive headaches for around 7-9 days as I did it cold turkey. IF you decide to try it for yourself I highly suggest weening off it slowly.

Wow good for you! It's funny how when you're the trap of addiction, the idea of life without those things seems SO much worse. You're like "aww but I don't want to give up having fun!". But then when you do and you start to appreciate true contentment and peace, and energy, and clear thinking and ALL the benefits that come from being out of the trap, you feel bad for that person who's stuck inside telling themselves that.

My wife and I are still both off it and feel great. I've found some awesome decaf beans as we still enjoy coffee.
We still struggle more with alcohol but since quitting for that 30 days video (and with what we learned from the book) we consume WAY less and overall I would say are happier. I'm so glad I have learned the ability to shift my mind off of alcohol because before when I thought of a drink, that thought was a ball and I was a dog. I couldn't get my mind off it!
Sounds like you are really working on yourself. Have you read any good books or anything to help you in the last couple years?

@@TheSAHDLife Thank you for responding back! I have nice Fair Trade Organic bag of decaf espresso I purchased online from Higher Grounds in Traverse City, Michigan. It's pretty good, but I'm still mixing it with my Dunkin espresso shots.. doh! What are the decaf beans you and your wife have been drinking? I'd love to try out different kinds to find the right fit.
I'm happy to hear that you both consume way less. That's a wonderful first step in the process of recovery. BIG KUDOS!!!
I think I didn't struggle with alcohol as much because I was typically only having 1-2 glasses of wine each night. I started noticing during the height of the pandemic I was drinking my wine faster than normal and reaching for a bit more each time. I thought to myself "this could become a slippery slope really quick", so I decided to cut it off. I had been trying before the pandemic, but not trying very hard.
I love Eckhart Tolle "The Power of Now". I also listened to many podcasts about quitting alcohol. There seems to be a LOT more sober podcasts now than when I was originally searching for them a couple years ago, so I think that's a good sign that more people are trying to quit or at least curious about it. Best of luck on your journey to sober!!

@@nessiequin I used to smoke way back in the day and I was the same. I'd only smoke like 1-2 a today, maybe more if I was drinking, so I never really thought of myself as a smoker. My wife who smoked more than me always tried to quit, but when we eventually decided to quit together, I think it was harder for ME than her! Ew. I can't believe we did that for so long.
For coffee we have a brand here called "Kicking Horse", it often goes on sale at the grocery stores and tastes pretty good. We also found a Hazelnut decaf bean at our local big grocery store and we will often mix the two and it's nice.
I am also a big fan of Eckhart Tolle. That book actually helped start me on the path I am currently on! I also made a video on another favorite book of mine recently 'The Untethered Soul' by Michael Singer. He has become my main dude for when I need to get back on the peace train lol.

I’ve been caffeine free for 6 months now. I had to cold turkey it because even small amounts started giving me heart palpitations. This was after 10 years of drinking coffee/tea/energy drinks every single day, so it was a rough transition. The first few weeks sucked but it’s worth it. Caffeine free sodas and herbal teas really help on days when i really want coffee since they satisfy the fun drink desire.

I am so very fortunate to have found your videos. I am suffering and I mean suffering from both GERD and LCR. I pray that you see my question. I know this video is six days ago, but the other ones are from a year ago. I thought that you would see this question in a most recent video. I watched both of your videos relating to both. I am doing both the apple cider vinegar and the baking soda. The baking soda I am gargling with. I am treating both, but do they cancel each other out? I would like to drink alkaline water but again, does it work along side the apple cider vinegar? I am experiencing the pain in the chest as well as sore throat, hoarseness, a lump in the throat, and my voice comes and goes. I had an endoscopy two months ago which showed mild inflammation in both the stomach and esophagus. I was put on Omeprazole which made things so much worse. Also, how long do you think it will take for the issues to subside. I am doing everything possible. Thank you beyond words for your videos and I pray your response. You have a very kind way about you.

    • @TheSAHDLife
      @TheSAHDLife  Рік тому +2

Hello. Yes it's a common concern which at first thought seems contradictory. The main goal here is to fix your stomach first and foremost. Treat the GERD. Your stomach doesn't like what's going on so you are going to need to start eliminating foods from your diet to see what's causing issues (start with gluten, then if that doesn't help, try dairy). There are others suggestions to try as I mentioned in those videos. While you are trying to heal your gut (perhaps instead of ACV you can use HCL/Betaine pills) you also want to relieve the damage done to your throat. This is where the baking soda comes in. I was doing acv in the morning then doing the spray after. I found relief within a week - 10 days... but that could vary person to person.
Continue learning about what's going on and how you are treating your body. Portion sizes, the types of foods, and eating too close to bed seem to be the main triggers... not to mention stress! Which is why I made THIS video... to help with that.
You'll get your vitality back! Just be mindful of what you are putting in to your body. We tend to make it more complicated than it is, so make it simple.

@@TheSAHDLife YOU have just made my entire day. I cannot even tell you. I guess I am way ahead of everything. I have always been conservative as far as food. My diet for three months has basically been bland. I have always eaten small portions of food. If I do go out to eat, I always bring half home. I stop eating at 6:00 pm. I have a wedge on my bed so that I am not lying flat. I only drink water with a teaspoon of cranberry juice. Although, I am stopping that as well. I usually work seven days a week teaching. I teach in a middle school, and I also am a driver's ed classroom teacher. Stress at work and in life. BIG time. I immediately saw that exclamation point after you typed the word, "Stress." You are saying that stress could be causing this on its own? Everything else you mentioned in your response is already being done and I am feeling every symptom with the GERD and LPR during the day and night. I am doing all of what you have mentioned and no improvement at all. I'm worried that this will be my life because nothing is working. I am fearing the damage that I am doing as well. Add this to the mix and more stress. You also mentioned, HCL/Betaine pills instead of taking the ACV. I know there is a reason for that otherwise you wouldn't have mentioned it. Would you please tell me why? I will get right on that. Again, I know you are not a doctor, but at least by your own experience, I have hope. My gastro doctor just wants to keep prescribing medications. That is where my hope dwindles. I hope that my conversation with you will absolutely help someone else who is reading this. I just cannot tell you enough how I appreciate your time and effort in responding to ALL that I have asked.

I forgot to add, I am aware that pepsin is bad, especially if it lingers in the throat. This is why I had asked the question as to why the HCL/Betaine pills that have pepsin gentian root extract to be added. This topic is so confusing. I just need you to set me straight in my thinking.

And YES, I fully think stress could cause ALL of your symptoms. It's taken me to realize how much damage stress can cause, which has launched me down a mindfulness path.
The HCL pills are better than ACV as you don't risk the acid on your teeth but also I think the type of acid in the pills is more effective.
You also talked about portion control but didn't say what kind of foods you are eating... this is important. Tomatoes (red sauce pasta) is a huge trigger for me... red wine or anything with tannins causes me instant pain... I really need to get off gluten as I know my body does better off it, and dairy (sadly CHEESE :( ) gives me a lot of phlegm which can make it tough to swallow.
Let's talk about about food... what's a typical day for you? ...coffee?

@@TheSAHDLife Oh boy! SAHD life, I'm different. I don't know who will be reading this, but you are generous enough to allow me to go further into this topic with you by answering your question. Just as if I were the one reading this conversation between you and another, I would hope there would be complete honesty by the person answering so that I would learn what and what not to do. As far as food goes, you have lived adventurous compared to me, which is why those awesome foods present you with, exaggerating here, high risks. I'm lame. My risks have been minimal. Ok, here I go. I have NEVER had coffee in my life. I have NEVER tasted alcohol. I have only recently tried tea. I am presently drinking ginger tea hoping that it will help with the GERD. I would drink hot chocolate often but have given that up. I have NEVER smoked. I go to the gym almost every day. I am 56 years old. I am 5'2 and weigh 127 pounds. So, I know weight isn't an issue that I need to lose to alleviate my symptoms of GERD. I will have one dessert per day. I would have a small cup of ice cream with jimmies when I would come home from work at 2:30. If I didn't have ice cream, I would have a teaspoon of sunflower butter, sunflower seeds, a handful of raisins or crackers. I have given up ice cream. I then wait for dinner. Again, bland. It consists of meat, once in a while rice or potato, baked beans, and a vegetable or two. Those vegetables would be peas, carrots, string beans, asparagus and broccoli. My husband isn't with me because of my cooking. He is the chef between the two of us, yet I am now so limited to eat what he cooks. As far as breakfast, two hard boiled eggs one day, oatmeal with a banana another day. Day after day because of the GERD now. At 10:30am every day at work, I'll have a handful of raisins or cheddar fish crackers to tie me over until lunch at 12:30. Every day for lunch I have the same thing, low fat yogurt with half of a blueberry muffin mixed in. If I am feeling adventurous, I'll go for the sunflower butter sandwhich. I am allergic to peanut butter. No chips to bedazzle the sandwhich. Just the lonely sandwhich. I don't drink anything while eating. I used to eat pizza once a month but no longer. As I had mentioned in my last post, I finish eating by 6:00pm. I am active and an extrovert. I know someone might think, "She doesn't eat enough." For my size it is enough for me. It always has been. I eat to live. I have never lived to eat. It is just who I am. I read what foods you experience issues with three times. I just thought, "OMG!" "This poor guy has reactions to these foods and for four months I can barely eat anything because of the never ending pain in both the chest and throat." Your views on both of your videos regarding acid reflux and LPR, well they have jumped due to me watching them over and over again hanging on to every word that you say to make sure that I don't miss anything. I know it might not be much to work with here, but the way you present yourself in your videos and the way you speak, you know what you are talking about. Hence why I trust you. Like I said, I know you are not a doctor. A doctor can prescribe all that he or she wants, but unless there is personal experience in the illness or disease itself, it is very hard to trust. The amount of people you help must be incredible. I will absolutely try the HCL/Betaine pills IF this is STILL what you suggest. I, like I had mentioned prior, am concerned that it contains pepsin and I thought that pepcin in the throat needs to be removed by gargling with baking soda to reduce the alkalinity, hence the confusion.

I was delayed for a flight in a lounge for many hours and found myself tallkng to a married older couple. The man was a tall gruff gentleman, who liked tontalk football the woman was a soft-spoken more calm human. They both own a large farm (so, I guess they are "Stay at home" labeled. She had been a carnivore, her entire life and switch to vegetarian and then later vegan about 10 years ago. The background important because if why she switched away from caffeine and dairy. It's like having a beef steak without any seasoning or char. She explained that she was addicted to caffeine and the dairy -half and half- orbfarm fresh milk she was using. She had breathing problems from the phlegm that the dairy was producing and couldn't sleep and was on edge all day from the caffeine. It was a combination. Coffee black and steak without seasonings, isn't that tasty. The enhancements are actually worse for the body than the actual base product. It was routine to her. "Salt of the Earth humans", that changed. They still milked cows and sold beef and dairy. We become routinized and dependent on these things. The body adapts and we crave more. Technically, a human should have a certain amount of sleep and wake with the sunrise......as millions of years of evolution, PH balances and circadian rhythms tell us this. Nutrition as well should be set as a science catering to each human. Marketing, manipulatation and desire wouldn't be satisfied though. The caffeine is a crutch when one of these things is irregular for what that human animal requires for healthy support.
Those Vegas nights couldn't be sustained on a healthy level. ;) it's a fun way to go. (sometimes) Money and modern society dictate when we now rise and "must" do something. I try to wake from the sun and sleep with the darkness. Try operating within today's world with that. It won't happen. Our "batteries" require a recharge to survive.. We are actually similar to one that only has a set amount of recharges and then no more. If we recharge at different rates, that battery (like a Lithium-ion) won't last as long and won't operate at full power. (Horrid EV cars that won't be practical or efficient until another 10 years into the future. (For many reasons.)
Caffeine is a hellbof a drug..and not that hot fudge sundae 1500 calories addictive crqp they sell at Starbucks. That's why they are worth over 120 billion in stock price. Add caffeine and sugar molasses standard in every cup and have the nerve to call it coffee. They have tapped into the human body and went straight for that comfort taste addictive center. Function without the caffeine in a proper manor. I'm trying. I thought this would be a sponsored video and isn't at all. Wow!
We have to be introspective. We all have anxiety and it is part of being human but, abstactly......to be harsh, you have it better than most humans on the planet. We take little for anxiety and never look to the big picture. The "SAHD" thing is a bit of this modern parenting thing. Without gender input and why roles developed and now we add current societal norms, it sensitized humans. At one point sheltering and experience of what reality is, prepares a human for all emotions. We shield and protect from one's we don't enjoy. This makes us I'll prepared and/or tries to bend physics. We can't do that but, we unknowingly change our environment to a confined place. We need to experience all behaviors and emotions. The problem therein lies with being a product of the current "normalcy" [Damn you Woodrow Wilson ;) ] of culture and it's snowball dominoes effect. I didn't say the corrupted political word snowflakes. -Enjoy

It's an interesting question... I think for a lot of people the answer is yes which is why they drink it. I have found that my consistent 100% performance without caffeine is much better for my lifestyle and workflow, so while I still have caffeine a couple times a month, I perform better without it. But with that being said I don't have a normal job... So I definitely don't think what I do is going to work for everyone else. My wife and I have found some caffeine free tasty beans so we still drink coffee almost everyday... I just don't freak out now if I don't have it!

Be aware that decaff coffee is not completely decaffeinated. I believe the caffeine has been reduced by about 95%. Me, I'm detoxing from caffeine and so I limit my decaff intake. I go to herbal teas (but green tea has caffeine, I have heard). I drink mint tea.

While I respect everyone's choice and if they decide to quit caffeine, I am noticing a lot in the comments talk of anxiety. As someone who deals with anxiety, I find what helps is caffeine breaks like maybe one month no caffeine . Also Matcha tea has L theanine and can provide a more calming wakefulness . I alternate between tea , coffee and nothing . I find only one cup of cold brew coffee after two hours of being awake lead to best results . I drink it black and only allow one cup unless I wake up very early on rare occassion two cups but none after 1pm . Drink lots of water and I never have issue with sleep . I also find when I come back from caffeine break and I have no tolerance to cut that to 0.25 to max 0.5 cup of coffee as I am caffeine sensitive and I experience very little down side

That's interesting. I am learning that like alcohol, caffeine seems to affect everyone differently. It often makes me jittery and, while sometimes I do get increased productivity, it's not as much as others. Which is why I think some people have a harder time stopping, because they get a lot more from it than perhaps I do. I think it's great you are thoughtful with your usage and can have it in your life without any negative effects. I love waking up without feel like I need to have anything to get through the day... but I still have that battle in the evenings with alcohol.

@@TheSAHDLife That's true about affecting everyone differently, I have a friend who told me he drinks 5 cups a day and complained to me about a increase in anxiety . So I told try decaf for last two cups and try and cut back as I thought that might help him . As for alcohol that's a tough one I find abstaining long enough from alcohol kills my wine cravings but I get genetics may play a factor. I wonder if a cold shower will help I use them for anxiety once you get through one and step out you get a big increase in dopamine and calmness once you get through the shock of the shower which control breathing through mouth tends to help . Just a idea because I get evening wine or other alcoholic drinks can be tempting

I mean stress is a pretty huge side effect and that alone might be reason to cut it out. Honestly everyone is so different, what works for me might not work for you. But I think it's important to test things out... if your brain tells you you can't get throughout the day without X then maybe your brain is running on auto-pilot and needs a reboot you know? The point of the video isn't necessarily just about caffeine or coffee, it's about anything in our lives that we reach for without really thinking about why, and how maybe it's worth thinking about it.
