The book "Caffeine Blues" is a real eye opener. I quit because of sleep issues. It takes awhile to turn that around especially because that is ultimately connected to adrenaline overload and things other than caffeine cause that, but it definitely helps! Excess adrenaline and cortisol from caffeine, sugar and stress are the big issues for all health problems. Quitting caffeine, sugar and other foods that over stimulate the adrenals and blood sugar spikes, which also stimulate adrenaline release, is so important along with addressing unresolved emotional trauma, learning to regulate our emotional responses, etc. Also eating soluble fiber super important for helping excess hormones come out of our GI tract-soluble fiber is the only thing that binds the hormones that the liver secretes for disposal. If we aren't eating soluble fiber at regular intervals throughout the day, every day, those hormones will be recycled and are still physiologically active, which causes overload. The best sources of soluble fiber are legumes-beans, peas, lentils-and psyllium husk. Thanks for sharing this topic, really under acknowledged, especially in the U.S.! Blessings!

Very good summary, I'm on Week 10, I quickly realized that I wasn't addicted (no headaches/withdrawal), but the ritual was the biggest part. I quit coffee before but the headaches and withdrawals were bad and I read and believed more that it was good for you, so I returned. Then I quit again with no affects and figured, 'I'm not addicted anyway, so I'll just moderate it.' Finally I looked again after keeping it moderate and found more support like this to just quit it (nice to hear a 25 year old was also crashing at 1 and 5, and it wasn't age). I saw it as a challenge in early Oct and said by Nov. I'll have broken the habit, let's see what happens. I sleep deeper, when I do wake (still early, but not ridiculously early), I'm ready to go. I don't need afternoon nap and am active well into night like now. My teeth are whiter, my pee is clearer and my energy is more consistent. It's a drug we've been sold for years, just say no.

I have seen MANY other videos and comments about people that have quit. I did it myself and agree with what people are saying. I have more energy throughout the day, I think better, and have less stress. I used green tea at first and then phased it out later. The main reason I quit was because of the headaches.

I was never much of a coffee drinker throughout my life until I ended up at this manufacturing plant and I started morning nights. Worked nights for 7yrs and coffee became a crutch and a go to and it became habitual. Even after I got off night work I was already under caffeines boot a decade later I can't go a single day without at least 1 cup. So that's 1 cup at least for 10yrs. Over this time I developed panic attacks and anxiety, heart palpitations on and off. Tried to kick it and was net with a violent series of withdrawal symptoms. So right at that moment I knew that anything which has that kind of effect on me if I were to leave it probably is very very bad.. so here I am, on my journey to kick coffee and caffeine all together. I've had 1 cup in the last 4 days... I'm making headway and I heard quitting helps sleep and you begin to dream again which means REM sleep. I sure would like to sleep better! So here's to a cleaner and more stimulant free life

      @vansan3211 6 місяців тому +4

There are reports that it can either suppress or increase appetite. There are several mechanisms in each why this would happen. When I was in my 20s, coffee was a big appetite suppressant. In my 30s, it's made my stomach immediately growl after consumption. Some research shows it can increase ghrelin/gastric acid in certain people which would be a understandable explanation. I've lost weight since stopping coffee/caffeine simply because I don't feel nearly as hungry!

@@bleo8371 You skip snacks only right after consuming it, it activates gluconeogensis so your body makes sugar out of stored glucagon in the liver and muscles, then it inhibits the creation of insulin, so the sugar fills your blood stream. So ya you won't feel the need to it while your blood is full of stored sugar.
Plus it fills your blood stream with adrenaline/norepinephrine and dopamine, but in a way that overly taxes your adrenals. It's not good to be consuming coffee every day.

it's my 5th day without coffee , i did it cold turkey and i had terrible headaches for only two days , the fatigue is less by now hoping it will despair after 20 days , the trick is to take pain killers every 5 -6 hours twice ,
i tried cold turkey 2 years ago and it gave up on the fifth day cause i couldn't tolerate the headache and the extreme fatigue.
i'm thankful that i rejected the temptation to drink coffee in the first three days, now i don't think about it, i'm just annoyed of the fatigue.
quitting something i was dependent on my whole life is truly life changing.

I’m on day 4 and definitely feel the increase in hunger. But I also feel way more calm and my road rage has completely disappeared. The lack of stress and anxiety has me sold on it. Also it’s good that if I really need a pick me up, coffee will have a bigger effect if I don’t regularly drink it.

One of the biggest eye openers for me was when I cut out coffee for a week and then I said I'd microdose coffee on this first day. I basically poured 1/10th of a single shot and then some hot water. That tiny bit of caffeine sent me crazy. So can only imagine how those 2/3/4 shots in a single cup affects our brain

I consider health a state of balance. A lot of people are resilient enough to handle coffee, but I think we’ll see that as our environment continues to degrade we will become less able to manage the stress that caffeine imposes on our physiology, and more and more of us will become increasingly sensitive to the deleterious effects of coffee.

I recently quit alcohol and never thought that I would actually be able to do it. A friend introduced me to non alcoholic beer, and it changed my life. Coffee seems much harder. I love love coffee, but it completely ruins my digestion. I ignored it for so long, but I can't keep sacrificing for my coffee addiction. I want to try caffeine powder to help me at the start. I halfed my coffee consumption so far and started to drink grain coffee with a tea spoon black strap molasses. I am taking it slow. Hopefully, I can fight this battle.

if you still experience difficulty to fall asleep after eliminating coffee altogether then probably you are doing some of these things.
    1. still having caffeine from black or green tea. caffeine derivative of teas remains for a long period of time in blood than the one found in coffee.
    2. eating sugary foods, or refined carbohydrates. caffeine alters metabolism of carbohydrates through cortisol and insulin. after quitting caffeine, care must be taken for eating foods that have high glycemic index because they also have stimulating effect on the brain. limit them for once or twice a week.
    3. you are probably eating too close to the bed time. you should not eat anything atleast 3 hours before bed. again, eating releases certain harmones in your blood that disrupts your sleep.
. if you are doing any one of these i hope this will help you.
. caffeine has an alternative effect on different people. it makes some people fall asleep faster, while harder for other people to sleep. but it definitely doesn't let both types of people to experience good amount of deep sleep.

I've also been on a smoothie kick lately so hoping that'll be in my morning routine rather than coffee. 😊

It's crazy how much coffee college students now drink. I went to college in the 90's--I'm like super old--and basically no one drank coffee. There were no cafes on my campus. Not even a Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks. I walked around campus a few years ago and now there's like 5.
But my problem switching to tea is I always crave coffee. When I've gone 100% caffeine free my cravings are less. You should consider trying going completely without--although that adjustment is not for the faint of heart.

I'm doing it, no caffeine, not in tea, in soda, none. I don't miss the taste of coffee or soda at all. I'm about the same age and have seen a few discussions of 'coffee since college.' I always thought I was too young, then started pulling all-nighters until one guy brought over his coffee pot and I realized people were avid drinkers. I never did no-doze either, which was popular (like Mtn. Dew before the energy drinks). Much later, like more recently I started seeing high schoolers in places like Starbucks and just thought, 'what the hell?' Nowadays I see teens on e-bikes. Then 20 year olds with Viagra. Young folks don't need any of that stuff, I'd argue no one does. It's a drug, folks.

Now, I have a daughter in high school and while she doesn’t drink coffee, so many of her friends do. Full on Venti lattes, every day. It’s wild.

I'm about to try and quit coffee after I finish my last coffee container. I've been drinking coffee since I was 10 years old. These days I usually have about 5 or more coffees a day. And sometimes tea instead. I don't drink coffee to stay awake. I drink it either if I'm bored and trying not to snack, or if I'm hungry and can't be bothered eating yet. I also just really love the taste of my specifically made coffee. I've quit coffee once before and was fine, no withdrawals. Though, being summer time helped back then. However, this time around I feel like I'm gonna have coffee cravings 😭. I want to find out if my heart palpitations will ease, and my crippling anxiety and stress might get better.

I was on a coffee detox for 40 days. I didnt quit caffeine, i just replaced it with tea. My energy levels did improve, however looking back (as i now regularly drink coffee, and also tea) the reason was because before my detox i was regularly having starbucks iced coffee. Essentially it was a starbucks detox 😂😂😂
I switched to mixing tea & instant coffee for mornings, and if I want, I have a mcdonalds iced coffee with light cream and extra ice in the afternoon (the extra ice dilutes the drink more). My energy isnt bouncing off the walls yet, but compared to my Starbucks days i feel way better.
For me, I think that coffee has enough benefits to make it worth drinking at least semi regularly. It's enjoyable, and it helps me to consume less sugar. When I dont have coffee, I binge on donuts cookies etc for the dopamine spike.
One small coffee a day, and I really dont want sugary things most of the time.

Thanks for your video. I was surprised when you said at the start of the video that you had trouble staying awake to midnight, when I was 25, I didn't know anyone who had that problem. Anyway, I haven't had coffee for four out of the previous 5 days. I originally intended to go cold turkey so I did one caffeine free day. It wasn't that bad except for a gassy stomach (was it because of the lack of coffee - I don't think so). The next day I had two cups but I haven't had one since. Just English tea and green tea. I want to go caffeine free at least for a few weeks to see if anything is different.
My reasons, I'm in my 50's and I doubt if I had a period without coffee since my early teens. I just want to know if there's a difference. I'm also giving up alcohol this month too. There have been times in my life when I was drinking 5-7 cups a day but recently it's more like 2-3. The way I drink coffee has definitely changed, it used to be instant but know it's freshly ground coffee. I also used to love Latte but I've been black for the past 3-4 years.
I liked your review and was also surprised when you said you found it harder to fall asleep at night. I've heard of other people that their sleep has much improved since they given up coffee. I guess we're all individual and I'll soon find out if my sleep is better or worst.

I just Google coffeine in decaf: up to 3%.
I don't want that in my body.
I didn't have coffee at home the last days so I drank Rosemary Tea. Which also has that slightly bitter wakening flavour.

My concern is I used to have most people saying I looked so young for my age and then suddenly I changed from looking nine years younger than what I actually was to just three years could that be due to my coffee intake

I hated coffee all the time I was growing up until 23, when I was daily introduced to hotel coffee, every morning. Now I'm 74 1/2... (That's 51 1/2 years, isn't it). I have "more worser" problems than headaches (which I've hardly ever in my life had.)
I get double vision, occasionally and balance issues. (Could be blood pressure) still, that morning cup (and ritual) is something hard NOT to desire and cave to. Wasn't it the movie star, Tom Hanks who told the girl in "News of the World", when she tasted the powder, "It's an acquired taste."
So I've quit a few times. Far as I can see, the actual PHYSICAL dependency is gone in three days; greatest longing is 24 hours after your last "hit" (cup). Then, you should REALLY have a place to take a nap.
But it's the "psychological dependency" That gets you!!! Why do you think they make all those cups with diagrams of "Coffee" written in so many different way on them?
IT IS A VERY BIG BUISNESS, and they want YOU IN it! I have read from different sources that the coffee industry is second ONLY to the petroleum industry in cash turnover. That's a lot of BIG BUCKS, and that would also be reason , alone, to give givin' UP a shot, wouldn't it?
Do they offer you this legal speed to keep you on the rat race grind conveyer belt... till you drop in the bin?
All that altruism aside, I had my cup of half decaf / half "high test" this morning. It kept me goin', too, but I don't feel very good about it.

Hi Tanu! Thank you so much for your comment. I actually experienced the complete opposite side effect that you did, as I ended up gaining weight due to being on steroids for months while I was undergoing treatment. I cannot speak on exact tips for weight gain ( I would definitely recommend working with a dietician or trainer for this!) But a well balanced diet with lots of proteins and healthy fats is a great starting point 😊
