    As we know, coffee is one of the MOST consumed beverages in today's world. Caffeine is used by EVERYBODY, but people often forget about how it can impact your life negatively. It affects your ability to think, sleep and makes you far less likely to succeed at life in every aspect - especially health wise.
    Andrew Huberman is an American neuroscientist and associate professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the Stanford University School of Medicine who has made many contributions to the brain development, brain plasticity, and neural regeneration and repair fields.

      He doesn't say stop drinking coffee, just drink 1 or 2 cups in the morning. If I drank coffee in the afternoon I would be up until the rooster crows

    I guess that I’m ahead of my time. Caffeine free for 16 years. Best decision that I ever made. My anxiety melted away, and I’ve felt so much better overall since then. No alcohol for 17 years either. People look at me like an alien, but my life success speaks for itself. Both are crutches. Upper on the morning, downer in the evening. It’s total insanity. Throw those crutches out, and tackle life on your own power!

      I’m into both, daily and love it.
      I find both to be really enjoyable and smoke some pot every now and then too.
      100% healthy and have run my own super successful business for decades.

      Good on you. I was a 10/15 year heavy daily drinker of energy drinks like monster, rockstar and relentless, like up to 7 cans a day. Stopped fully 6 weeks ago and my life has taken a 180. I have been drinking them since I was 13 and I am now 28 so have never experienced life without some form of stimulant presence in my life. It's taken a long time to hit rock bottom and currently feeling incredible and motivated with where I am going in my future.
      Congrats to you for what you achieved.

      your success has nothing to do with being sober because I too have not drank coffee or alcohol and am in fact a very unsuccessful gentleman

    I was on 4-5 cups a day then quit cold turkey 12 months ago, headaches for a week while my blood vessels opened back up. Now I feel much more coherent and have better situational awareness (not fixated on single things). It's helped me scope out larger goals and get realistic about what my current trajectory is as well. Feels like a clear-head soberness. I highly recommend 6 months at least to anyone who feels like they are addicted.

      @@jessekelly8132 Yes. "When caffeine is consumed regularly, the body becomes dependent on its effects. And because caffeine narrows the blood vessels that surround the brain, when consumption is stopped, the blood vessels enlarge. This causes an increase in blood flow around the brain and pressures surrounding nerves." ~ May Clinic

      ⁠​⁠@@jessekelly8132yes he’s correct, consuming caffeine cause vasoconstriction in the blood vessels which restricts blood flow, when you stop.. you have what is called vasodilation (the opening of blood vessels)
      The brain functions best and optimally with optimal blood flow, hence why he has better situational awareness and more scope.
      Caffeine gives a spotlight focus
      Caffeine is used and abused today in the western world, everyone is rushing round, caffeinated, motivated and jacked up to their eyeballs
      Majority of people can’t even go a day without, it’s an addictive psychoactive drug that has negative neurological effects.
      There are some positives, it’s not all bad. But my belief it should be used every so often and not everyday

    I quit caffeine on the 12th of April. Second best decision next to quitting alcohol in 2012.

    I've been listening to him for awhile and here is what I've gotten.
    Intermittent fast until the afternoon.
    Work out in the morning if you can.
    Drink lots of water and get good sleep.
    Dont drink caffeine until you've been awake at least 2 hours.

      Also: Don’t turn to screen time upon waking or near bed time…
      yet here I am at 9pm .. must wake at 3:30am… watching a video about caffeine even though I quit coffee a year ago. Bright side: thanks to Huberman I’ve given up alcohol as of last week.

    I used to drink 5-6 double shot coffees everyday and just could not keep myself awake. I cut it out cold turkey and was REALLY tired and felt like shit for a whole week. after that I was sleeping perfectly. was totally awake and anytime I felt like I needed a coffee I would get a glass of water and walk around outside for 5 mins. I felt so much better after just one week i've stayed away from it other than a coffee with someone to enjoy as a treat and not a tool. biggest change i've ever made and it was so simple.

      Dang, that's a lot of caffeine intake to cut cold 🦃. Good for you though. My head would have exploded since I get a horrible headache if I only have 1 of 2 cups of my daily coffee.

      Coffee makes me so nervous and shaky, I don't drink it.Also messed up tummy. I still love it though.

      Yeah, another rant about quitting things somehow 99% of the population ingest and are completely fine. Oh hur dur, "drinking 10 coffees a day is bad for you" no shit, it's not like it hasn't been a known fact for almost 100 years now.
      Guess what, anything in excess is bad for you. You don't need this guy to tell you that. Have some common sense for Christ sake.

      @@lindadavis5668 look up for low acidity coffee beans. Also practice a friendly conversation with yourself about how feel about any topic that pop up in your mind. you will overcome tons of things and feel calmer and also busier with relevant you. God bless you.

    I'm not saying you should do the same, but I simply quit caffeine. I wanted to see what would happen. At the beginning it was HELL. Now, 7 months in, I can have a cup of coffee at an event or something like that, but I don't want nor need it. And my life has improved massively. I am this chill and zen person I never knew I had in me.

      That’s where I want to get. Be able to enjoy it as a treat once in a while but not crave it constantly. On day 5 no caffeine

    I didn't believe it, until I cut caffeine out.
    A lot, (not all,) but a lot of my depression has lifted. My anxiety from being around people is cut down. My anger/rage is down.
    I'm not exactly mellow, of course, but I'm nowhere near the angry and frightened person I was. And I don't beat myself up in my head as much, too.

      Nope in moderation it's great for you cleanses the liver , stimulates the bowels , fights diabetes , improves thinking . Two small cups a day , not black .

    I quit caffeine cold turkey 3 months ago. I am 53 and had been drinking coffee daily for over 30 years. For the first month it was hard to get going but now I feel better than I have in decades. I am totally awake first thing in the morning and have steady energy all day. I sleep so much better also...

      Same! I cut caffeine basically cold turkey and cut back on processed sugar. I feel like a completely different person and my sleep improved as well. Keep up the good work!

      100% same experience. I had steady energy all day instead of a few hours of productivity followed by a crash. I’m back on coffee but I need to get off again. I feel like garbage until I get coffee in the morning. I am addicted for sure, complete with headaches if I don’t drink coffee within 24hrs.

      @Sausage Face Not silly at all. Just try and cut back if you can. You can even ween your self off of it. Doesn't need to be cold turkey. Start Mixing in decaffeinated coffee Until you get to an entire cup of decaffeinated coffee. That's what I am drinking. I still love coffee and I still love the taste. But I don't have the effects of the caffeine. No afternoon crashes, My anxiety in upset stomach is gone also. I quit energy drinks as well. But if you really want to do it you gotta check the labels on sodas Because there's a lot of sodas you wouldn't think we'll have caffeine in it but it really does. And if you're a tea drinker make sure you look at that.

    I got an auto immune disease at age 25. Interstitial cystitis or Chronic Badder Pain Syndrome. I had been drinking coffee since I was 10. I had to get off all caffeine. Almost was fired after nodding off at a client meeting . lol. Anyway I can’t imagine being on that roller coaster now, 43 years later. I genuinely have steady energy and rest when tired. My skin looks young for my age. All I’ve drank for 43 years is spring water.

    First panic attack during my 50s horrible feeling. I was a coffeeholic so I went cold turkey because I was motivated by reading that caffeine can trigger anxiety attacks. After a month, zero anxiety but no more coffee.

      exactly the reason why I switched over to tea. Its a much more enjoyable energy source and get zero anxiety from it. Its also gotten a bit expensive though since I have experimented a lot with different oolongs and green teas and they can get quite pricey. Lately been drinking a nice cup of matcha every morning. Most peaceful morning ritual I could adapt to

      I have the same issue. You can try coffe without cafine. Perfect solution for me. There is some very small percentage of cafine in it. But it wont trigger anxiety or agitation.

    Last year in the summer I had quit caffeine cold turkey. I thought i was only going to withdraw for a week, some migraines the most. No, it was painful migraines I never experienced in my life before. My memory was terrible as I would forget the simplest thing which was scary, I had no appetite, could not stay awake throughout the day which felt like torture having to work, and as a woman had the worst menstrual cycles that I prayed just went back to normal. But as the weeks and months passed, i regained my memory, the migraines finally disappeared, i was actually able to sleep throughout the night and I could wake up and not feel groggy at all. My menstrual cycle are back to normal, and I could stay up all day without needing any coffee at all, not even tea. But take your vitamins!

    I quit caffeine about two months ago. It is by far the best decision I have made in a long time. I finally feel like I'm actually rested from sleep. It feels so good to sleep hard. I also started taking gaba. Mostly to see if it would help ease my tinnitus. It hasn't, but dang it makes me dream like crazy. Never could remember dreaming at all. I love dreaming now. It's actually entertaining, and I remember them all.

      You mention tinnitus, it is such a " work in progress " isn't it, gotta try things in a consistent and calm, low expectation approach because we know how worse it makes it when there's pressure.
      Good luck man, we can reduce it and I'm positive that we can get rid of it or make it so minimal it becomes nothing.
      These weeks I'm trying some high frequency sounds found here on youtube. I'm sure without tinnitus it sounds like torture lol, amazingly it stops my tinnitus for 20 minutes or so after a session, and reduces it for hours, I'm gonna check with professionnals if it's harmless on the long run though.

    I quit caffeine, Adderall, and sugar a year ago after I retired from 20 years of military service. My workouts and energy have exploded. I'm PTing like I'm in my early 20s in my early 40s!

    My philosophy has always been to intake less caffeine when I haven’t slept well and more when I have. People always said I was crazy for this but huberman just said that’s how you should do it

    I've stumbled into this caffeine delay habit in the last few months by listening to my body after having a protein shake at breakfast. Suddenly I realised that I didn't feel like the coffee until around 11.00 am. Now I'm drinking one to two espressos a day. Feeling better, and sleeping better for it, too.

    I quit, I feel and sleep better. Caffeine barrows energy from the future and gives it to you now. It's like a form of credit. I went bankrupt.

    Quit coffee about 10 years ago. I didn’t actually think it was a problem for me, even though I was sipping it all day. I just didn’t like the idea of being dependent on a drink for energy. Tapered down to zero over 6 months. If I tried to go faster I got bad headaches. At the end I got a big, happy surprise - I realized the IBS I’d had for decades was gone! Changed my life.

      what coffee did you drink?Coffee and real coffee are different subjects!Freshly roasted quality beans ,grinned just before brewing extracted with right amount of pressure and temperature,is not about energy!Coffee has so many different flavors ,notes ,Full of antioxidants!But instant,already grinned,not quality coffee is just packed with bad ''coffee '' with zero flavors,tastes and benefits.Same like processed foods and home cocked!

    Caffeine is addictive. A lot of people can't stop drinking because of addiction. Besides, they seem to live until 90 years old
    with no problems in my house. I like to see a study published on the claim that coffee is detrimental. My grandfather drank
    coffee and also lived to be 102 yrs.

      As addictions go, it's one of the better ones. You'll never plow your car into a family of five and spend the rest of life in prison because of coffee. The guy who sells you coffee will never pull a gun on you or send goons to collect on a debt. The cops will never search your car for coffee, find it and take you to jail. You'll never wake up in the same bed as the ugliest girl in the world with bruises you don't know how you got because of coffee.

    Push back caffiene intake 2 hours in the morning and the crash will happen 2 hours later in the day...wow...science! Glad we had him to explain this.

    Loved coffee so much that I had to Quit. The underlying problem was alcohol addiction, the trigger was coffee and the stabilizer was weed😅. Basically take coffee, get work sorted, no sleep and I am thinking a shot of whiskey ought to get me to sleep( before u know it, it's a couple and am out). Weed every time I feel like am panicky etc.
    Two months sober now, loving it.
    Gotta regulate y'all. Love from Uganda 🇺🇬

    I got sick and didn’t have caffeine for a few days so decided to cut it out completely and feel better. The quality of my sleep has improved and I feel less anxious. I never thought I would cut out caffiene.

    My grandparents drank coffee daily by the pot(s) full. Grandpa lived till 91 and grandma 93. They had a fried southern diet and grandfather smoked most of his life. My wife's grandfather was a health nut. Strict diet and ran daily. Had a quadruple bypass and lived till 81. You just never know.

      You live long enough you notice eggs ,good,eggs bad, butter good ,butter bad, meat good meat bad, carbs good, carbs bad…..grandparents lived by the thought ,moderation in ALL things,,,,they died in their 90’s ,went to bed , never woke up….no prolonged illness….funny thing,,,,made their own whiskey, grew own tobacco ,,,,worked hard physical lives …genetics probably , definitely thought process at play …..

    My 2023 New Year's resolution, quit all caffeine. Has been great after getting through the rough first few weeks. Withdrawal symptoms were there but bearable. I thought I could have 1 cup of coffee about 16 days in, but it gave me the most awful splitting headache for 3 days. Am well past that now and feeling better and better. I'll always understand why people love coffee, as I used to absolutely love it. But for me it's in the rear view mirror now and for the better.
    You have to understand why plants produce caffeine in the first place. They produce it to act as a toxic pesticide. We know 1) it repels and harms insects and 2) it prevents seed germination of other plants. Caffeine in coffee plant seeds make the ground around them sterile and other plant seeds cannot compete. Then caffeine in the plants leaves and stems (in less concentration than the seeds) protect the plant from hungry insects.
    Now it just so happens that we humans enjoy the stimulating effects and some of the other physiological changes that come from consuming caffeine. But it's a mild form of poisoning ourselves in order to obtain those effects. What Huberman describes, the dehydration, the sleep disturbance, even the elevated liver enzymes! etc... doesn't go into the long term problems that consuming caffeine can induce. I believe they are severe.
    Now I'll go out on a limb and do what scientists hate but natural thinkers always do, which is to relate my personal experience (anecdotal evidence) on the subject. The list of items below are things I intuitively know were associated to my caffeine cessation. After about 3 days I felt a pulsation in the lower left abdomen (heart side, my left), it should be roughly where the high end of the pancreas is. Almost immediately after stopping caffeine my hair began to thin significantly faster than prior (I'm 52 and there's been a very small amount of hair thinning). I looked into this and there are other reports of people's hair thinning when quitting coffee. Now 29 days into the quit, the thinning is slowly reversing. The intense headache I experienced was just above the bridge of the nose, where the pineal gland would be. I suffer from chronic sinusitis which I am convinced is fungal in nature but few American ENTs are interestedin investigating or diagnosing this. My feeling about coffee relationship with fungal sinusitis is that it's a double edged sword. In addition to it's other toxic properties, caffeine is a fungicide and it may have had a prophylactic effect on my sinusitis at some times, but over the long term it is too inflammatory. I feel it's going to improve my sinusitis to eliminate caffeine. Going off base about fungal sinusitus... the only real cure is to move away from a locality with high earthborne and airborne mold spore volumes...
    Lastly, my skin is getting softer (which you would expect from eliminating a dehydrating agent) and after 3 to 4 weeks of highly unstable energy levels (frequent lows or blah blah moods), my energy level is much higher and more consistent than it was when I was a coffee drinker.

    I was addicted to caffeine for years. I would consume anywhere from 500mg-1000mg/day depending on the day. I developed such a tolerance to it and it’s effects started to become significantly diminished. I’ve quit caffeine for a month and I feel 10x better than I did when I was compulsively consuming caffeine. The main thing I’ve noticed is sleep. I’m an insomniac (I was an insomniac way before my caffeine addiction) and I noticed that I’ve been getting the best sleep I’ve gotten in years. I fall asleep much quicker and the quality of my sleep has drastically improved. I think I’m officially done with caffeine. I’ve just realized that for someone like me, the cons outweigh the pros.

      I quit for 2 years. Then a coworker started making coffee with beans they ground themselves and it smells so good that I went back and I am so sorry I did. I significantly feel different and much more anxious. I'm trying to quit now but I go two days without it and then relapse. It also appears to be a gateway drug to sugar for me.

    This is interesting. I drink a cup of coffee after a small glass of water when I wake. I got in the habit of having another cup after lunch along with a couple of handfuls of m&m’s. I would already be full but still would feel the need for this. Later, I would feel sick. I am beginning to think I just had too much caffeine and on top of being full from lunch…I’m going to try going back to 1 cup a day in morning and that’s it. Sometimes if I decide on a 2nd cup in late morning, I can almost start feeling the sick feeling coming on me & I don’t drink anymore. I am so grateful to hear about this. Thank you Andrew! 😊

    I stopped drinking coffee for almost a year and it's the best thing I ever done . I felt like the coffee is something I must to have . And I couldnt pass a day without it , but now I feel way much better without it (it took me sometime to get use to it but it's totally worth it !)

    I like the philosophy and science he talks about acceptance and using caffeine and stimulants as a motivator that is actually exhausting because you are forcing yourself to go after things you think you need versus just accepting where you are and naturally doing things for yourself because you really want them and don’t need that external energy motivation.

    When I was in basic training we all got one last cup of coffee on day one. We all watched each other as that stuff wore off and seen how dependent we can be on it. How irritable it can make you, to a point of almost violent.
    Coffee is amazing, it's something that can keep you going a couple extra hours and stay alert. However, just like everything, it should be limited with intake

    something I did which solved my problems with coffee is, I now put in half coffee, half cocoa into the cup. cutting much of the caffeine and replacing it with theobromine I've noticed is much better than having a straight cup of either coffee or cocoa, neither drug is in excess and both are stimulants. the coca helps mitigate some of the downsides of the coffee also like for lowering cholesterol, opening the blood vessels and etc.

    I stopped caffeine years ago. What I discovered is you only need caffeine because you started using caffeine in the first place. With good diet and exercise, my energy comes on its own. I also regularly fast 20 hours which is great for consistent energy and no crashes of constantly eating / blood sugar all over the place

    About two hours after drinking coffee I feel so sick like so weak and faint. I also think coffee has lowered my ferritin level which then caused sever hair loss. Also, I noticed when I started drinking coffee I started to develop cystic acne. I truly think coffee is the cause of all of this for me . Not to mention the anxiety

      Yeah man, when I drink an energy drink and I go visit my mom or brother before hitting the gym I get very awkward and I feel extremely anxious and high in anxiety. I feel like I give off a weird vibe when I’m stimulated on caffeine, I start overthinking and I always forget about the present. When I’m not on caffeine I can definitely have a good conversation

      Thallium being the most common. Using coffee is pretty common as it's bitter taste hides the flavor of poisons very well.

    Mr Huberman is a brilliant man. He is someone everyone should listen to. I never had a cup of coffee until I turned 65yrs old.. just to see what it tasted like. I've seen so many people addicted to the stuff growing up, I chose not to drink it.. Seems like I made a good choice. I also chose not to drink alcohol when I turned 21...another good choice.
    I never get sick and most people like I am 15-20 yrs younger than my age. Health is all about the choices you make.

      i was drunk once in high school and felt horrible. Never drank after that and also my mother never let us drink coffee so I never started. To me the fragrance of coffee is wonderful but the taste is bitter. I do not ever drink coffee or alcohol and I have tons of energy and people usually think I am at least 15 years younger. I saved a lot of $$ too by not drinking alcohol. Also I do fine at parties and people rarely suspect that I am sober. I know how to have a good time without being drunk or stoned.

    I have always been a heavy coffee drinker. I start by splitting a large pot with my husband and switch to iced partway through the day. I had elevated liver enzymes on my last blood work (which was over 3 years ago) and they didn’t know why. They assumed I drank alcohol regularly-which I never have. They were stumped as to why they would be so high.
    Fast forward to now, carnivore for almost 4 months, still drinking a lot of coffee. I have noticed I get lightheaded and have a foggy brain some days, sometimes it gets so bad I feel like I’m going to faint. I started drinking at least 1/2-1 packet of LMNT daily and the days I forget to drink it are the days when I get those symptoms back. I am also pretty good about drinking water-nothing crazy, but I’m not dehydrated due to lack of water.
    My husband, who is also carnivore for the same amount of time as me drinks coffee as well, but he doesn’t have the same issues as me.

      And he said he was drinking 3 to 4 grams, which is up to 10 times that amount. It wasn't necessarily the caffeine that was the problem for him, it was the sheer abundance of it. Caffeine, in moderation, is fine, but the amount he was drinking was absolutely insane.

    Andrew is 100% correct. I've been an addictions worker now for about 11 years and I've done a lot of research myself into caffeine and even my own caffeine intake and it actually takes about seven hours to detox from 100 mg of caffeine so my rule of thumb is, please don't consume any caffeine after 1 o'clock. If you don't consume any caffeine after 1 o'clock, you will find that your stimulant levels will come down and with some exercise and normal food you will sleep okay it's when you start consuming caffeine into the afternoon that you are dicing withLack of sleep as an issue because of the stimulant. People are really unaware how powerful psychostimulant caffeine is in terms of the brain. So rule of thumb no coffee after 1 pm and usually you'll be okay. I'm now at just 2 cups of coffee one in the morning at about 6:30 am and then one at about 11 am, and that's it. Also green teas and other herbal teas have caffeine in them. Be aware of those don't smash a green tea at 4 o'clock in the afternoon and then wonder why you can't sleep as green tea has a lot of caffeine. In fact, some herbal teas actually have more caffeine in them, then coffee and not many people know that. Always enjoy your videos Andrew and they are very enlightening and I do a lot of my own research myself and caffeine is something that I look at with people because if they're not sleeping that's the first thing I would look at and especially the young people because they are consuming, a lot of these energy drinks with high amounts of caffeine in them

      Green tea only has about a third of the caffeine level as coffee. It takes a lot of green tea consumption to abuse it.

      @@nonzenz Yes. Especially the acid reflux is often concealed. When horsewhisperer Monty Roberts had his very first coffee during a rodeo show he had to vomit. So he never again drank coffee. And when my mother gave my cancer suffering father only coffee for breakfast before driving to the doctor, my father vomited during the drive and during the examination. Some people will never learn.
      Coffee consumption is overly praised. But here you see some deeper effects that are not mentioned in most discussions.

      @@varelion I have personal experience myself I have never actually vomited but most of the time felt like I was about to and had to "keep it down" if you understand... At first I thought it was the cigarettes so I quit those but it persisted. I came across a youtube where It all finally made sense. And now I see it everywhere.
      I thought its normal to feel so tired when waking up in the morning. Boy what a surprise it was when after abstaining from coffee I felt ok and no sleepiness during day at all.

    I have always treaded lightly with Coffee and Caffeine in general due to Anxiety Disorder and my Hypervigilance over how my body and Heart feel. My average daily intake used to be maybe 300-500mg, but that wasn't from Coffee it was from Tea or Soft drinks, both of which I hardly if ever drink now. I find it funny every time I am around someone who "needs" their Caffeine hit in the morning and how baffled they get when I say that I do not need Coffee to stay alert and awake in the morning, even if I wake up and battle some sleep inertia. That is not to say I do not drink a Coffee every now and then, but when I do drink it I prefer it Black, no cream, no Sugar, and only using Artificial Sweetener if absolutely necessary. I feel like most people don't even really drink Coffee, they drink these over-processed, Dessert Drinks every day with a ton of Sugar, and call themselves "Coffee Lovers" no, you are just hopelessly addicted to Caffeine and drink the fakest Coffee there is, meanwhile actual Coffee by itself actually has some benefits in MODERATION.
    I refuse to Drink Coffee if I have a long day of Work ahead of me because I am not going to let it become something that I depend on to get things I need done, if I wake up in the morning with some sleep inertia, that is just too bad, it will wear off within 20-45 minutes. Next to Nicotine, Coffee is the most abused Drug on planet earth, and often times it is used the wrong way. If you're gonna drink Coffee try drinking it the way it is supposed to be consumed instead of adding all that processed garbage on it, you may like it! and if you don't, then more power to you.

    As someone who runs blood tests on fit males often, those “Liver enzymes” are found in muscle too. Men who workout rigorously will get micro tears in muscle fibers which releases those enzymes into blood. It’s not always liver.

      @@eugeniebreida1583 I’m referring to ALT AST. Which can go up with autoimmune destruction. But the enzymes tested for autoimmune are ones like creatine kinase or LDH. And these too can go up with hard workouts.

    I think it also depends on your lifestyle, stress level and also your diet..my parents drink 2 to 3 cups of coffee a day and they’re in their 80’s very healthy, happy and so energetic, they still walk to the mall about 20mins, instead of driving.. They always tell us to not over stress, balance work and leisure times, eat natural and not processed food, mostly plant base and some fish and meat, and be active everyday, whether just going for brisk walks or play badminton etc..

      I wonder how many of these people that have quit caffeine have felt so much better because they aren’t drinking as much added sugar and the chemicals in energy drinks. I drink my coffee black and avoid energy drinks. I have an active job so I fall asleep early

      I agree. So many people don’t think about the sugar intake. I only drink maximum of 2 coffees a day and only in the morning, sometimes only one. I don’t feel stressed. I’m not dependent on it, and I don’t drink with sugar

      ​​​@@april_Very true, we need to see the overall change.
      Maybe they stopped something else and/or started something healthier. Could be a total change of breakfast for example, with no coffee but also no very sugary stuff associated with it by habit.
      There's also the placebo effect. How many people do it convinced that they're doing themselves a favor which is what starts a positive cycle. As when you eat a very good healthy meal, you feel better though technically it takes weeks of intakes for vitamines etc to build up, but the feel good sensation is almost instaneous.
      The cheer will of acting on something you think is controlling you, has a benefit.
      Yet for people relaxed and balanced about it, there is no issue to begin with.

    My cousin died from bladder cancer that spread throughout his vital organs. He drank 5g of caffeine from his coffee daily . He also held in his piss while commuting, sometimes for hours until he got home. He did this for a couple decades. 95% of all coffee on planet earth are sprayed w pesticides and some smuggled beans are sprayed w worse chemicals and are mixed into big companies beans. We all believe there is a correlation w his diagnosis and coffee consumption. He wasn’t a junk food eater, hardly drank, and never did drugs besides coffee.

      I think the bigger issue here is holding in your piss for hours. If that was consistent, you are bound to damage your bladder. I held my piss in because I had to for like 3 minutes when I needed to pee BAD and that already was super uncomfortable for my bladder. Imagine doing that for hours consistently.

      5 grams is INSANE. That's 5000mg. The strongest drinks you can buy only have 300mg. That's 16 of the strongest possible drinks you can buy (aside from some coffee shops that dish you 64oz coffees, these are 16oz cans). Who can afford to drink 5000mg a day.. Even if you go the cheapest route, making your own cups at home that's 55 cups of coffee. A standard bag of coffee would brew aprox 20 cups. Almost three bags of coffee a day!!??

    Caffeine had definitely added to my life, whether tea or coffee, but I couldn't handle it in my youth. I would get the jitters drinking any amount. I also couldn't sleep at night if I had any that day, even if I had it in the morning. Now in middle age, it doesn't give me jitters or keep me up at night, so long as I stop drinking it at least 6 hours before bedtime. I only drink one full caffeine beverage in a day. If I want a second, it has to be decaf. Even my first is usually a half caf. I appreciate the clarity that the less sleep you've had, the less caffeine you should consume. Definitely counter intuitive and important to realize. Also had no idea that drinking several cups of coffee a day could make the liver function the body of an alcoholic, but no danger that I will ever drink that much. I can't even get up to 2 full cups a day!

    May 25th of 2001 was the last caffeinated drink I had. Was diagnosed with epilepsy earlier in the year and I noticed caffeine triggered my seizures. Quit caffeine immediately.

    I am generally up for three or four hours before I have coffee-which I do for the benefits. I don't really feel I need it because I don't eat breakfast, so I get noradrenaline naturally until I eat, which I follow with coffee, and that timing is because the noradrenaline declines. My first significant drinks of the morning are actually hibiscus tea. I usually don't drink coffee after work, unless I have to return for work and want the caffeine, which is not altogether too common.
    Interestingly enough, I've never really felt a huge boost from caffeine, and pretty much never felt a "buzz" from it. I did have withdrawal headaches when I went cold turkey, but I stopped drinking it all day and now it's not an issue.

    I’ve never felt as awake since I’ve quit drinking coffee regularly. Now I drink it only from time to time ,when I’m really tired and need a boost or just for the taste. I feel energetic throughout the day and a lot more awake generally speaking .

    7:15 I'm a big coffee and tea person, but I've developed over sensitivity to caffeine and this is exactly the same that I've noticed from my own experience as well. If I haven't slept well and drink coffee, it's like I just get the jitters, the rapid heart beat and the anxiety, but still feel tired; If I've slept well and have my coffee I'm not bothered by any of those and can achieve focus and be more productive.

      How often would you say is good to have coffee a week? I have 1-2 (mainly 2 cups a week). I have one on Thursday morning and the other on Saturday morning and makes me feel great. Want you think? Could I do 3 days a week? I have coffee this much because I don’t want to make myself need it and get “withdrawal” or whatver it’s called (which is why I don’t drink one cup one day and then one the next morning, as I feel that would make me sleepy if I didn’t have it the next day.

      ​@@Sabersect2022 I think you'll just have to test and figure it out for yourself. For me, I have coffee pretty much every day, but I've had times being a week or two without coffee with little to no withdrawal symptoms. I might get a slight headache second or third day, but it passes quickly and doesn't even last the whole day.
      I think the only way to find out what works for your body is to experiment. One good tip, if you want to be thorough, is to write things down. How much coffee and how did that make you feel, maybe even how you felt before it. One's own memory can be quite fallible at these kinds of things.

    I went to Puerto Rico with my Spanish club. We took a boat excursion but had to ride in a van for 1.5 to the dock to get there. The night before one lady said the tour company they would have coffee and pastries once we got to the dock. She mentioned it several times on the van ride. The tour company didn’t have any bud she finally found some, which made her the last person on the boat. Returning at 3pm the van had to wait until she found the place with coffee again. Her caffeine addiction runs her life. I only drink water, the best I can find.

    Covid gave me a caffeine sensitivity so I pretty much stopped cold turkey in July 2022.
    I do miss the taste of coffee, but honestly, I don't really feel any difference alertness wise. I also love not having to worry about caffeine headaches and forcing myself to have a coffee when I don't really want or have the time to have one.

      @@mtuz8356 It's tough to say, but it definitely happened to me. Covid also gave me really bad anxiety for a few months. Talked to my doctor and she said she was seeing it quite a bit. Something about covid attacking my central nervous system and causing inflammation.
      Now if I drink coffee that anxiety starts to creep back up and I get really uncomfortable.
      I didn't have any history of anxiety or mental issues beforehand either. This was all physical.
      I'm doing great now, but yeah I still can't drink coffee. Even decaf made me feel some negative effects.

      @@mtuz8356 Dude I'm dealing with exactly what you're dealing with. My mental fortitude is not the same anymore, and I'm more prone to ruminating as well. I find that negativity in the news and media affects me more and so I try and make a concerted effort not to consume as much negativity anymore.
      I find that going for a daily walk during the work day helps me immensely. Not that every day is a struggle or anything, I'm overall very happy, but like you said there are just those times where I'm not feeling good and I'm a bit anxious/panicky, and a walk really helps.
      I'm really focused on eating extremely well and taking care of myself now (gym, stretching etc.), and I think just knowing I'm doing all I can do to make myself feel the best I can brings me great relief. There's literally nothing more I can do, so why worry about it? Still would love a fucking coffee once in a while though lmao.

    Weeks ago I started doing two things Mr. Huberman recommended for improving sleep. I wait 90 minutes before having caffeine (I have decaf in the morning) and I look towards the sun for some time after I get up. Also reduced my caffeine intake. Been sleeping soundly since then. Usually, I still wake up to urinate a couple of times at night but go back to sleep easily. That would change if I'd just remember not to have liquids too late. Love this channel.

      Shot in the dark here...but I also wake up usually once to pee (57 yo). Just recently I heard that when we eat a bunch of carbs/sugar the body is forced to excrete that sugar to try to stabilize insulin levels. Just a thought, had never heard that before and may not even apply to your sleep.

    WOW! I used to drink up to 12 cups a day, don't know how many grams that is, don't know how to figure that out even. Now I drink about 3 cups a day, none later than 2 p.m. I always feel great. My biggest concern is that coffee fills me up and so I don't eat so much. I can't afford to lose weight but I have always slept without issue. Thanks for sharing.

    I drink 2 cups of coffee with some honey every day and yes I do get the afternoon crash almost everyday. The second one is around 4-5 pm in the evening. I've noticed that my sleep at night is hugely disturbed. Sometimes I can't sleep until 4 and I'm up at 7:30. I'm gonna cut out my 2nd cup to see if it makes a difference.

      How'd your coffee reduction go?? For me, I hit the wall on the negatives of caffeine a few days ago, and decided then and there to measure out the beans to less than 1/2 my normal, and to have only ONE of these (rather than that 'second cup'). I later found some high quality organic decaf beans at my local, and now have one 'cup' of coffee, which is less than half caffeinated.
      Next stop is to cut back more . . . but have to say, I felt SO much better simply cutting back in half. And realize the negatives as to sleep and irritability, this coffee biz is a racket.
      I wonder what there's left to sip on at a coffee shop on a Saturday, that can approximate the excuse for paying $3.50 for a tiny shot of something. What used to be a great reason to hang out/socialize/catch up on news . . .

      @@eugeniebreida1583. I mostly drink instant coffee (mostly Nescafe) so as to not going through hassle of grinding my own beans. I checked the back label to see how much caffeine goes in a serving and it said it's 30-35 mg which I thought isn't much but apparently it was atleast for me. Maybe I'm just too caffeine sensitive? So yeah, cutting out the second cup was a huge improvement. Sleep comes in like 5-10 minutes now. I've been trying everything to improve my sleep including going to the gym in the evening to feel exhausted by night but cutting out something as small as a second cup did help. Cheers! ✌️

    The reason I quit drinking coffee is, it was affecting my gums (receding) and other acidic drinks like sodas, orange juice, etc. My sleep was always f$#@ up too. It took three months to get my body back to normal, gums regrowing, and I sleep like a teen.

    I have a light cappuccino in the morning only. Initially, I was having them strong (for my body) and experiencing increased anxiety and heart arrythmia. Now I have it light alongside a glass of water. Hydration is essential. I should drink more lol.

    You know you’re addicted as when you quit, you don’t want to get up in the morning! Like the world ended! It’s SCARY. That happened to me years ago. Now, my body literally won’t let me overdo any caffeine; I get very unwell, because they are high in histamine and I’m super histamine intolerant, I can’t breathe with too much caffeine!! My body knows!

      @@BookClubDisaster Coffee is not an addiction. It can get a bad habit. And the not after 3 - 4 pm rule is true for a lot of people. You might be more sensitive. Which means IF you ever have to drive during night, half a cup of coffee should do the trick for you.

    Star the day at 3:45am with 32oz of water with apple cider vinegar. Used to just have water. But, for some reason, I don't understand, since adding the vinegar in having very positive bms in the morning. Around 6-6:30 a.m., I'll have an espresso. That's been very good so far for me.

    I couldnt tell you what was my high-range day on coffee/caffeine, but it was easily over a gallon of coffee a day. When i was working from my friend's house where we had to use poland spring gallons to drink, i went through over a gallon on just coffee - then i also drink yerba mate.

      128oz = 1gal. That's over 10 12oz cups. A standard "coffee" is 8oz. Now I imagine your adding creamers/sugars to your coffee. That you mean you drank approximately 11-13 large coffees a day. Totalling about 1450mg of caffine. You'd have to never touch any other drink and be sipping your coffee constantly until bed. 1gal a day of any liquid is incredible, the odds of you handling that much caffeine and that much liquid is low.     It’s a very hard situation for those of us with narcolepsy to find things that help us beat the excessive day time sleepiness. Caffeine helps me sometimes,but not all the time.

      I've got a broken circadian rhythm, and that's hard enough... I can't imagine narcolepsy. The struggle is real, and something most people will never understand. "Wired and tired" is how I live my life, and that's AFTER switching to decaf.

      Me too & im only 25 I used illegal drugs for 10 years & been sober for almost 3 years but no legal supplements or vitamins give me any more energy they all make me feel the same or more exhausted than before

    I love coffee, always have. But over the years, I have learned my body and years ago I learned to drink a couple glasses of water when I first wake up and waiting 2-3 hours to have a small cup of coffee. I feel better the less coffee I drink. And I have slowly been learning more and more that reinforces that I am making a much better choice.
