  • We will be doing a more in depth video of each of these amps separately so be sure to let us know what you'd like to see in the comments!
    Krankenstein 2:
I know very little about this amp and there's barely any info available online for it that I can find. From what I pieced together it was from when Krank came back into business but that's about all I know. I didn't even know it ever existed but the guy I bought my Revolution head and cab off of told me he had one and later got in touch to sell it to me.
    Krankenstein:
The Krankenstein uses all-tube, hand-wired circuitry with brilliant tonal innovations designed and voiced by Dimebag Darrell himself! Dime knew what he wanted in an amp and he knew what he wanted out of an amp. The Krankenstein is that amp. Based on the flawless circuitry of the 100-watt Krank Revolution amp head, the Krankenstein features a Dime modified Kleen channel that's warm and buttery with the hint of breakup that Dime required to get his classic clean tones. To the already gain soaked overdrive channel Dime added an overall Master Volume control (so you can trainwreck the channel master volumes into the overall Master volume), and a level control on the effects loop. This 2-channel, all-tube, high-gain monster is loaded with 4 premium Sovtek 5881 power tubes and 4 premium Electro-Harmonix 12AX7 preamp tubes.
    Revolution 1:
The Krank Revolution 100W Tube Guitar Head has 2 channels with separate volume and 3-band EQs. 2 separate master volume controls on the distortion channel for lead boosting with a footswitch. Presence control for Kleen and Krank channels. Proprietary sweep control on the distortion channel changes the overall values for the entire amp, giving you an expansive range of modern and vintage tonal possibilities. 4 - 12AX7 preamp tubes, 4 - 5881 power tubes. Line out; 4-, 8-, and 16-ohm outs; and footswitch control of channel and master volume selections provide the Krank Revolution with great flexibility for stage and studio.
    Revolution 4x12:
The acoustics and construction of Krank speaker cabinets are unique among high-end cabs. All Krank speaker cabinets feature genuine solid-wood construction, a tour-proof interlocking corner design, quick release all-steel front grills, large resonating chambers, touring handles and casters. Krank cabinets are loaded with USA designed and built Eminence speakers because they deliver unsurpassed sound and performance every time you fire them up! The Revolution 4 x 12 Cabinet features 4 Eminence V12 Legend speakers.
A common misconception is that all guitar cabinets are created equal. Nothing could be further from the truth. Krank Revolution Series speaker cabinets are so different in design and sound that they crush the competition. They are the final leg of the journey in our quest for the holy grail of tone. All Krank's cabinets are made out of solid wood, unlike other manufacturers who use plywood, chipboard, particleboard, laminated wood, etc. Cheap wood equals Cheap tone. Solid wood resonates and sounds huge! Would you play a plywood or particleboard guitar? Of course not! So why would you settle for a cabinet made out of these materials? In addition, these cabinets are oversized, which creates the biggest, chest-pounding low-end in the business.
    Krankenstein 4x12:
Same as Revolution 4x12 but with Eminence Texas Heat speakers instead.
All the audio recorded in our videos is recorded direct into either an M-Audio Profire 2626 or a Behringer Ultragain Pro-8 interface direct into Logic Pro X mixed using stock plugins on a Mac Pro 3,1 (2007 model) running OSX 10.11.6.

All sound great, but my favorite was the Krankenstein #2. I'd love to hear all on a track. Keep Krankin!

FINALLY. SOME KRANKENSTEIN COVERAGE!!! These are harder and harder to find. Hold onto them. I'd love to see some playing with the knobs for a true review. That original krankenstein can really open up as well.

I’ll add it to the list for future coverage in individual videos! Yea they don’t come up for sale that often anymore!

as you said they all sound good, but the Krank 2 seemed to sound more "open air" and a hint more treble on it.

I love the Rev 1+! They're so hard to find now particularly the cabinets.

Was there a difference between the normal and the plus cabs? I can’t remember if they changed anything when the plus models came out or not.

Hi I know this is an older video, but there's two mini switches inside the the krankenstein that switches them to Rev 1 values (REV/DIME switches). I believe the Rev has the same switches as well.
Is it possible to do a shootout of the Krankenstein with the Rev 1 setting vs the actual Rev 1 and vice versa?
You might want to consult a tech first just in case, but I don't think anybody else has ever done that comparison.

I am aware of the switches you’re talking about but never bothered touching them or really looking up what’s involved to make the switch, that’s a cool concept for a video though I’ll definitely look into that!

@@BlackBridgeSound I’ve had a few Kranks in my day. They catch a lot of flak but they are very usable amps and make some great tones. Against my old block letter 5150 my Rev+ ripped. The 5150 has a new home now.

I love the way they sound in person (and tones I’ve heard actual pro’s mic out of them)
I do find it quite difficult to mic a great tone out of it though. I find it really easy to get a good tone out of my 1960b with g12t75 and vintage 30 speakers though, I should pair that with the Krank heads and see what I can come up with.
